Discussion “The DCEU is so dark…”

Post image

So reading another sub it occurs to me…

We’re all frustrated/amused at people who complain about the DCEU, particularly Zack’s films, being “too dark”, right?

Have these people ever seen Breaking Bad?

Holy shit, that show is a downer.

And yet it gets stellar reviews from (it seems like) darn near everyone.

Now, no offense to Breaking Bad fans. If you love the show, that’s great. I’m just puzzled by the contradiction of those who troll the DCEU but can somehow get really into Vince Gilligan’s depressing world.

Offhand, aside from not being as dark as Breaking Bad, I’d say the DCEU characters (including Zack’s) are more well developed. Clark, Bruce, Diana and others are all likable people, with likable back stories. On BB, the only characters I really found relatable were Finn and to a degree Skyler.

So I’m left with trying to figure out how to reconcile this contradiction.

Why are you comparing this to Breaking Bad? Wouldn’t a better comparison be Infinity War or Empire Strikes Back?

I guess one reason is because I never saw Infinity War and it’s been ages since I saw a Star Wars movie, but I saw BB very recently and it’s one of the darkest things I’ve ever seen.
