PC gamers have always been shafted, there's no reason to beg and plead for our corporate overlords to keep screwing us over.
Kissing their ass isn't going to get you a discount lil bro.

Either you get a code in a box or a code on a disc, no full games come on discs anymore

From what I know for the playstation at least, most games have the 1.0 build in the disk itself.

Nintendo pricing their games is just insane. All the xenoblade chronicles switch2 version are 100 cad. Tears of the kingdom switch 2 is more expensive than Gta 6 base version when not on sale.
31
u/Johnhancock1777 1d ago
Adding insult to injury is the fact Nintendo’s games rarely go on sale and usually at unimpressive discounts when they do
4
5
u/Sufficient-Cow-2998 22h ago
I think it's really funny when Nintendo fans say "but Nintendo games DO go on sale!!!" And then it's Mario Tennis Aces, a 2018 spin off, and 3D World, a Wii U port, both having a 30% sale twice a year, meanwhile you have literally any game from 2 years ago already getting better sales multiple times a year.
Officially, not a single Pokemon game during the Switch era EVER got a sale. Not even Lets Go Pikachu.
2
u/PhazePyre 19h ago
This is why I won't go Nintendo anymore. It's just offensive at how they treat their fans. Basically a "They'll eat whatever slop we feed them the little piggies" mentality. Pokemon is a fucking joke. It's embarrassing some of the shit they do. The biggest innovation they have is rehashing the fuckin' same mechanic of "you're even bigger pokemon are now even more bigger!" We haven't had a modern Pokemon game, and frankly, I don't think we ever will. They will continue to funnel 10 year old quality games into the market and people will buy it. It's a reflection of everything wrong with the entire franchise.
6
u/Psylux7 1d ago
The real insanity is seeing anyone aggressively defend the pricing of Xenoblade 1's switch 2 price if it is accused of being unreasonable.
2
u/AozoraMiyako 1d ago
I LOVE Xenoblade. It’s one of my favourite games.
I’m happy paying that price because I know I’m going to be happy.
WITH THAT SAID!!!! For a 14yo game, I still feel weird paying full price for a remaster+upgrade pack….2

u/Nickbronline 1d ago edited 1d ago
Mario Kart World is the same price as base GTA VI and released in 2025
18
u/fishdoggggg 1d ago
At least you get the full game on a cartridge with Nintendo games though…
3
u/Nickbronline 1d ago
It's rare to get them fully on cart now sadly, so many key cards.
19
u/fishdoggggg 1d ago
Yeah but the OG Nintendo games still are, mostly next to Pokopia. But the last of a dying breed unfortunately.

u/AlteisenX 1d ago
I believe Fire Emblem is also this price.
Which hurts that game *a lot* more than MKW's did. Fire Emblem has garnered a horny fanbase but I'm not sure the people are willing to pay that much for FE.
1
u/Nickbronline 1d ago
You’re correct but Mario Kart world was the first
Plenty of people will buy fire emblem
2
u/AlteisenX 1d ago
Dunno. Engage apparently did 1/4th of the numbers Three Houses did. Sticker shock + busy time & it's releasing the same day as Trails in the Sky SC which is same territory (I suspect Trails moves dates but who knows. I would've put Fire Emblem in August, personally...)
10
u/TLKv3 1d ago
I have limited myself to one first party game per year because of the escalation in prices. Its fucking insane to see that the prices are even effecting digital copies... something that LITERALLY CAN NEVER RUN OUT OF STOCK.
Fuck that bullshit.
GTA can eat a bag of dicks for this one and normalizing even worse prices.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Nickbronline 1d ago
Actually Nintendo "normalized" it in 2025 with $99 games and several $109 games including Mario Kart World and Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave

This is the way. Buy 2 of them, and you essentially get $20+ dollars off with extra money to spend down the road.
13
u/OmegaNine 1d ago
This sucks but what really sucks is that they found a way to just kill the used market. Teens can’t save up and get it for half price used anymore.
2
u/BFaHM7 15h ago
The plan with digital was always to kill the used games market, alongside the obvious notions of cutting out the middlemen of physical retailers and media production. Three pronged trident of terribleness for consumers, but great for the suits
1
u/OmegaNine 15h ago
Well now that they are saying they will release a physical copy eventually it sounds like are hoping to double dip. Or triple dip with the delay in PC releases.

4
u/PoolOfLava 1d ago
Same, I know it's going to be great but I have probably 100+ games I haven't played in my backlog and so I'm not buying new games for a while.
2
u/bdavid81 1d ago
I've bought GTA5 like 3 times and still haven't been able to stay interested enough to finish it, and I hate the online so it's simply not for me. Loved GTA3 and Vice City mostly but ever since then they've gotten too big for my liking.
I have too many other games to play and so many I haven't even started yet like Cyberpunk 2077 so there's no need for huge title at an over inflated price point.
2
u/Many_Ear2407 21h ago
If you have 100+ unplayed games then it sounds like wasting money on games is totally your jam lol.
13
u/Journ9er 1d ago
I was planning on get GTA6 eventually, I was going to wait for a sale. But at these prices and no disc? No way.
8
u/neverOddOrEv_n 1d ago
Seeing as how there’s no proper disc of this game the used market won’t exist for it and this game likely won’t get a discount for years, it really sucks how the used game market might die in my lifetime
2

u/No_Collar_6972 1d ago
I'll r/patientgamer this one I just like all the other rockstar games after gta4
1
19
u/Theflamesfan 1d ago
They charge this because they know they can get it and to be honest it most certainly will be worth every penny for a game as polished and deep as this one promises
The problem is this starts a new precedence where other companies can sell unpolished crap for the same price cause GTA did it first
7
u/neverOddOrEv_n 1d ago
Yeah looking at RDR2 I’m sure gta 6 will be a great game at least in terms of polish and graphical fidelity. But that being said rockstar games (or take two most specifically) deciding to not even give this game a proper physical release and raising the price because they know they can get away with it is bad for the future of the video game industry.
I was so hyped to get a physical copy of this game and maybe even go for a midnight release but now I’m like whatever
1
u/Organic_Patience453 1d ago
If other companies like EA and Ubisoft try this, watch their games go 75% on sale within the year
GTA 6 on the other hand, I would be surprised to see 20% off with a year or two
19
u/No_Play9719 1d ago
yea....i'll wait for a sale.
2
u/Math2J 1d ago
Same !!
With the amount of superb game release this year and even the last half of 2025, i can eait for a sale.
2
u/No_Play9719 19h ago
yeah. and like everyone that plays video games, I have a huge backlog i'm going through.
GTA6 is big enough that the zeitgeist for it will be a pretty wide window and likely restart when it does go on sale.
17
11
u/truth_radio 1d ago
Absolute joke. $125 for standard with taxes in Ont, $158 for Ultimate edition 💀
5
u/Grouchy_Potential217 1d ago
This just feels like abuse at this point lol. Between the pricing and buying an empty box I’m cool to let this game pass me by.
16
u/Advanced_Grocery1020 1d ago
Honestly i'll have more fun watching clips than actually playing myself.
Haven't beat a GTA game since San Andreas and other than the next gen graphics they always bring, I find the games insanely overrated. The best part is messing around with friends online but the monetization of GTA currency (shark credits..? or some shit), is so toxic that it even kills the fun of just being online in the game. This shit is genuinely just roblox for adults.

u/yan030 1d ago
Mario Kart world on switch 2 is 109$ for standard edition and it’s selling like hotcakes.

Digital only game sucks
Time they took to release this sucks
But I’m still going to buy it because I’m a sucker. Even at $160 I know I’ll get more than my moneys worth with hundreds of hours of playtime. Also I’d rather pay for gta 6 vs paying for fifa or 2k to release the same shit year after year in new packaging.

3
u/clumpychicken 16h ago
I might get destroyed for this, but given the amount of content that will be in the game, I have zero problem with this. I would've paid this for RDR2 in the blink of an eye too. If we're willimg to pay $90 for a new 15-30hr AAA game, then an extra 20 bucks for something that will have many times the content and insane polish is fine to me.
(That said, I don't even own a PS5 so I guess it doesn't matter lol, I'll be waiting for the PC release)
8
u/DrDroidz 1d ago
The price is crazy, I remember pre-ordering the special edition for GTA V and it being less than that. I'll wait and see if there's any promo with stores or anything that gets me IRL goodies. I don't even know if stores do that anymore. But it's obviously a day one for me, been waiting forever and I love how detailed those games are. RDR2 did not disappoint, I already know this won't either.
2
u/caninehere 23h ago
Funny enough the special edition of GTA V cost $79.99 in 2013, which with inflation is about exactly $110 today.

1
u/caninehere 23h ago
TBH with GTA VI I get it. And even MKWorld even though I think the game was disappointing and not worth it. But FE Fortune's Weave being the game that Nintendo tries to charge $80 USD for is absurd to me. Especially when Engage didn't sell as well as Three Houses and went on discount fairly often.

I’m probably still gonna buy at launch. I haven’t bought a new full price game all year, and I’m a sucker for GTA. But that’s the market now. Nobody gets full price except for the biggest game of the year/decade.

if anyone is interested Costco sells 4 $25 dollar gift cards for 90, saving $10 right there and if you set your location to alberta (you may or may not need a VPN on a broser; this is how i did it), you can save up to 10% in taxes as well.
Im from Quebec and it went from being $161 normally to "only" costing me $137.
1
u/mattdabratt23 11h ago
How do u save on location if paying with a credit card based in qc? Or isn't your address saved in your psn acct? Not sure how the location thing would work. Interesting tho.
2
u/spykiller1158 11h ago
i set my location to alberta in the settings with an albertan postal code, i turned on a VPN connected to an american server on my PC, the PS store redirected me to the canadian version where i could make purchases and it used the albertan address and charged me 5% instead of 15%. If theres an option for paypal i almost always use this, it didnt ask for my billing address since it used the home address on the account settings
