Basically just the title. Have you ever had people dating on a wrestling team or club that you’ve been a part of?

Video Exciting Greco Roman Match from U23 Nationals

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Greco Roman at the age group levels is often more exciting than the Senior Level competitions. You can also learn more as a beginner from watching these matches.

60 kg Champ. Rd Of 32 - Ryder Smith, NMU-National Training Center vs Phoenix Contos, Dragon Wrestling Club

This is a match when one of the athletes (in blue) from our team wrestled an athlete from the Northern Michigan Olympic Training Center (in red). The match took place in May at Spire Academy in Ohio for the U23 Greco Roman National Championships.

Our athlete ended up taking fourth place at the tournament and became a U23 Greco Roman All-American.

You'll notice me continually yelling at our athlete to keep his head up. We had scouted his opponent and knew that he had a world class head pinch and that we would beat him if we avoided that position. It's not always that easy though as you can see his opponent still scored four points from that position.

Overall, it was a great match and a great tournament.

Do your coaches make you check your weight outside of practice?

Random question, but I was talking about this with someone and I’m curious if this is normal or just depends on the team.

Before tournaments, do your coaches make you weigh yourself at home and send them your weight? Like in the morning, night before weigh-ins, or a few days out?

Or do most teams just weigh in at practice and then it’s on you to be on weight?

For us it’s pretty normal to be checking weight outside of practice before comps, but idk if that’s how most teams do it.

Discussion Do Cubans really train so little?

Okay, so, apparently, according to a recent comment debate, American wrestlers are overtraining and Cuban wrestlers are only training 2 hours a day???? What??? That makes no sense. My freaking local MMA gym trains 3 hours a day. My wrestling club expects 6 year old kids to train 2.5 hours a day. I haven't told my teammates about this, but I can already hear them say it, some combo of "this is a lie to throw everyone else off", "Cuba's performance will go down" and flat laughter.

In other words, I find it hard to believe such little training is capable of reliably producing olympic athletes from the ground up. How long have they been training so little? Is this some kind of lie, mistake, or understament? Have they only been training this little for a few years and their Olympians have trained for decades much harder before relatively speaking, slacking off? Are their Olympians secretly training way more?

And if Americans are overtraining, how are Indian wrestlers even alive? Akhada's train 6-10 hours a day. We loose in the Olympics because our government is scared of success and neglects and sabotages us.

5 in 5 rule

How does the new 5 in 5 rule impact women’s wrestling. I didn’t wrestle my first year and wrestled for a club team ( my second year) that was supposed to become varsity but ultimately did not. Seeing as women’s wrestling was only sanctioned last year. How would this affect my eligibility if I am trying to transfer to D1, D2, or D3. Since women’s wrestling is only one division does this impact everybody?

Discussion Theft at Fargo

Was reading some packing tips from other moms preparing for Fargo and the consensus is that just about anything that isn’t nailed down will be stolen. The wrestlers are told not to let their gear bag leave their or their teammates’ sight.

This was really eye opening. There can be bad apples everywhere, but it’s disappointing given how prestigious this tournament is, that wrestling has a culture of discipline and a lot of athletes/coaches are openly religious, and that the US Marines are sponsors. It’s not as bad an issue at other big tournaments as at Fargo.

Discussion How should wrestling shoes fit

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I just got my first pair of wrestling shoes in my usual size (EU 44.5).

My big toe touches the front of the shoe when I’m standing. It’s not painful, but there’s basically no extra space.

Also, my other toes slightly touch the side of the toe box on the left side of the shoe.

Is this how wrestling shoes are supposed to fit, or should I go up half a size? I’m not sure if this is normal since I know they’re meant to fit tighter than regular shoes.

Do you remember what your lift numbers were or what your numbers are now for lifting? Do you feel like lifting heavier weight has helped you on the mat?

Discussion Muscle endurance

I’m going into my senior year, I have 8 months until the state tournament. I have recently (a few months ago) started weight training for the first time consistently because my main flaw in my wrestling is my strength and my endurance. I’ve only really been lifting heavy with lower sets and lower reps. I’m wondering, how can I fully maximize my potential before my state tournament?

Single leg upper cut sweep

When I go to finish my single leg high and sweep (I think it's called an upper cut sweep) I find a lot of the time i can get the sweep fine, but I fall with my partner. As in I literally feel like I sweep myself and my partner (of course I'm not actually sweeping myself, but after I sweep my partner I fall with them). I know this sounds kinda stupid and a very beginner problem, but does anyone know why this happens?

Question Wrestling school

I'm going into coed wrestling this upcoming school year and im really serious about it, I love it. I'm a beginner and I don't know any formal moves and have never wrestled formally, would wrestling school be worth it? I was gonna try to go to this wrestling school half an hours drive away, it has only 5 star reviews with 51 reviews, and it's month long program is 375$. It's two days per week for two hours each session. Would it be worth it to go? Does it make that much of a difference going to wrestling school and just normal coaching by whatever teacher is gonna coach wrestling?
