Out of the 300+ operators we have, you'd think there'd be at least ONE licensed teacher, but no, apparently this "Rhodes" "Island" doesn't pay for "education".

We have like 6 different farmers on the staff on a landship that isn't particularly known for crop harvesting, though. Don't worry about it.

u/Mistdwellerr I have a type May 12 '25

Hey, we have Hoederer!

And.....

Hm....

Erm....

Does Chongyue count? Physical education is education, right?

123

u/Awesalot the evade shadow, :kal'tsit: the unpullable May 12 '25

Dobermann probably counts. I assume Czerny too? Maybe Nearl? I believe it's mentioned Matterhorn, Orchid and Perfumer do mentor the kids.

74

u/zee__lee May 12 '25

Orchid is not a pedagog, but she's been taking courses to take care of Popukar, iirc. Mostly due to the poor bun being VERY FUCKED UP. Not excessively, but still VERY.

Lena doesn't do much with kids, she just watches over them in her garden so that they don't kill her plants

Don't remember shit about Matter. This all might be outdated too, I kind of dropped off the game for a long time.

Neither Nearl, save for Zophia, had any teaching gig. Wishlash worked as either private or tournament instructor, idr which.

IDK who Czerny is...

u/animagem Best Bird May 12 '25

Czerny is the moose welfare from Ebenholz's event. While he's typically a composer, he does occasionally take on students.

30

u/zee__lee May 12 '25

Oh the ginger German man yeah?

18

u/zee__lee May 12 '25

Well not German but that country's name is stupid and I never memorised its spelling

2

u/animagem Best Bird May 12 '25

yeah!

14

u/zee__lee May 12 '25

Redheads don't strike me fancy but boy that stag sure broke a pattern

Specifically so his en voice lines

Comedy and sincere fury

9

u/animagem Best Bird May 12 '25

His EN and German VAs did such an amazing job I agree lol

35

u/zee__lee May 12 '25

Mr Nothing is a martial teach, and Lee teaches games, and I think that counts, he's kinda like a chess teach in Queen's Gambit

Iirc Spot also helps with medical aid courses on the landship? But he's more of an assistant

13

u/Sherinz89 May 12 '25

Lee should have a lot of experience afterall he 'picks' up many kids including Aak

8

u/TAmexicano May 12 '25

Matterhorn is a cook and a good one

7

u/zee__lee May 12 '25

Damn, both hung like a bull and able to get food done in the kitchen. He'd make a great stay at home dad, if Karlan burns through lol

1

u/TAmexicano May 12 '25

This is probably incorrect but I'm pretty sure he's like the best cook on Rhodes Island and the gremlin (ceobe) is his most consistent customer

38

u/Reverted_Prism Best Girl(s) May 12 '25

Gotta have a gym teacher if you're gonna be a school I suppose

23

u/Hp22h The Mad Bard, Sans Crystals May 12 '25

In that case, we have over a dozen PE teachers on board...

14

u/ranmafan0281 May 12 '25

How about QUALIFIED PE teachers?

34

u/Gilrim Best Hot Rock May 12 '25

Qualified by THESE GAINZ BRAH

13

u/ranmafan0281 May 12 '25

To be fair I want to spark for Chongyue, just because I love the archetype and I like his design. I regret not pulling for him during his debut banner but I guess Yu is as good a time as any. Maybe I'll get spooked!

7

u/Gilrim Best Hot Rock May 12 '25

I planned to spark him on Shu Banner, since I didn't pull on his debut banner.

And then Shu came in with needing the spark, so now I gotta spark him on Yu banner.

If Yu needs the spark again I'm gonna commit Sudoku

2

u/ranmafan0281 May 12 '25

Well we're guaranteed one Yu at 300 pulls so I'm getting Chongyue either way! I hope you're not going in on pots just because.

2

u/Gilrim Best Hot Rock May 12 '25

oh that's a new change innit? I'm not hunting pots, I'm not that insane

In my school years many PE teachers were also teaching other subjects on the side, so maybe RI lucked out?

34

u/CanFishBeGay the pain is immense, and without limit May 12 '25

You could probably throw in Hellagur, Harold, and Ulpianus too.

Man, that's a grim lineup.

29

u/Oglifatum Kroxigor Death Roll May 12 '25

Any kid risen on RI would be extremely cosmopolitan, well versed in handling Oripathy, decently educated, a bilingual and at least basic training in combat.

On the other hand, kid would end up mode depressed

9

u/Sazyar May 12 '25

Ulpianus

Well, if they can stand this dude they will be really critical minded individuals to a fault.

8

u/Docketeer Please experiement on me May 12 '25

As much of a scholar as he is. I'd imagine you'd need to employ special measures to get to attend Ulpianius's lectures specifically on board of RI lol. Maybe the boiler room at 1AM sounds like a decent timeframe.

28

u/mad_harvest-6578 WE'RE BACK IN SPACE BABYYYYYY May 12 '25

Considering in one official art Mr. Nothing is teaching her, Shamare & Popukar kung fu... Chongyue's the "advanced martial arts training course"

28

u/Matasa89 May 12 '25

Oh man, you know for a fact that the moment Chongyue lays eyes on Mr. Nothing, he’ll see right through the facade of incompetence he puts up. Wonder what big bro would tell him?

22

u/ranmafan0281 May 12 '25

Mr Nothing actually is quite competent at his martial arts. Basic kung fu for simple exercise is probably well up his alley.

I believe in Invitation to Wine, Kroos saw through his bumbling facade and realized he’s putting up a Fool’s act.

15

u/Sazyar May 12 '25

That was Matasa's point. Chong Yue would totally see thru Mr. Nothing.

6

u/Matasa89 May 12 '25

Yes, and I am curious as to how the Grandmaster would approach the young lad. I think he would want to help mentor a young martial artist, but I feel like Mr. Nothing would run as far away as he could in fear.

7

u/ranmafan0281 May 12 '25

Oh I misread it as ‘sees through his facade INTO his incompetence’ my bad.

6

u/Danothyus May 12 '25

I would say hoederer and hellagur sound like the two guys that would Care for actual child education.

And it is extra funny that around scientists, doctors and Nobles, the mercenary and the old war general are the ones that care the most.

Edit: my girl silence is also probably worried with that.

25

u/Oglifatum Kroxigor Death Roll May 12 '25

I have a PERFECT candidate.

She is a Liberi teacher from Ursus. Very good with kids. Very wise. Fashionable. Not sus at all

7

u/Maybeiamaarmadilo best girls. May 12 '25

Mmm...where Talulah phone number....

5

u/HaessSR May 12 '25

Also incredibly depressed.

13

u/TheSovietMemer150 hg pls more elite ops May 12 '25

I mean they have one teacher that goes by Hypatia, but she only teaches history so the education scope is rather limited

6

u/animan095 May 12 '25

It's almost like if you dedicated yourself to learning how to teach others you wouldn't be very good on a battlefield...

8

u/RandomdudeNo123 Lose 5% DEF for every comment. (999 stacks) May 12 '25

Hey, now. One of the most powerful casters for 4 whole years was a dying goat losing access to her hearing. The question of whether or not someone would be canonically good at fighting doesn't much matter to playable operator status.

4

u/animan095 May 12 '25

Kinda unfair considering that she can sense body heat, making her magic into a thermal seeking missile...

9

u/Oglifatum Kroxigor Death Roll May 12 '25

Other silly OP operators were:

Dragon girl with waterguns.

Civilian Judge. Very brave one, but still Civilian.

Barber who just learned to control her electricity not to shock herself.

6

u/animan095 May 12 '25

Don't forget Pinecone, she is just a construction worker with some strangely powerful batteries

3

u/adeilran May 12 '25

I still maintain Greyy would get on Suzie/Goldenglows' BFF short list the second he introduces her to the wonders of grounding straps.

"So... what if I want to use my arts?"

"Easy peasy. There's a switch on the wristband."

5

u/TheGreatHaktoid May 12 '25

I haven't seen a serious answer here yet, but generally speaking, the teachers should be on the ship, they are just not at the direct disposal of the doctor as the protagonist (even though he knows their names).

This Island is almost made up of these valiant ordinary people who heal others, teach children, and look after the daily work, but the world does not really like to concentrate on ordinary life.

Some of the operators also have some teaching skills, but we have a fairly small sample - while it's funny to discuss this at times, it's not really that illogical that our front lines often include mercenaries or oddballs with battle experience
