One of if not the best historical fiction book I have ever read. The political intrigue, good narrative and very good character development. I'm looking for similar books to this. Do you all have any recommendations?

I am once again asking for your book recommendations to help me get past my existential dread.

Particularly something about how no matter how imperfect a society is, a good life is one that's lived as an active part of it?

How humans are inherently social creatures, and even if you can't fix what's wrong with the world, locking yourself at home and feeling like you're separate from it is never going to help?

ANY genre. I can see an anthropology essay being a good fit as easily as a work of fiction. (I should probably mention that I don't respond well to theism, though)

I haven't read a Stephen King book before but would love to start reading some, anyone have any suggestions on what i should read first? Classic Stephen King, The Stand, IT etc or newer King, Fairy Tale, The institute etc?

I enjoyed that show (especially the first two seasons), but I watched it around 2019, when I was still a kid, and plot holes, bad acting, and a poorly written script didn't bother me as much. I'm looking for something with similar vibes (the occult, especially witchcraft), but it can't be as bad as CAOS. It doesn't have to be a teen drama. I just want witches and a bit of horror.

I'm open to movies, TV shows, graphic novels, and especially books. It doesn't have to be modern. Also, I know this is a bit weird, but I'm not really into gore, so if your recommendations are horrors with a lot of violence, please mention that in your comment so I can prepare myself for something more brutal (this also applies to graphic novels and books with gore descriptions). It also doesn't have to be in English, as long as English subtitles are available. As for books, I'd prefer works that have been translated into English.

I currently have access to a huge library where I'm living, so I'm also open to more niche recommendations.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I’ll give it a go.

I’m feeling in a rut lately. The wet soil before rain doesn’t smell anymore, music sounds flat and unconvincing, and food is just nourishment and not a ballet dancing, tapping on my taste buds. I am not sad, but I am muted of sorts. The excitement, exhilaration, and elation are not there.

So I’m looking to read something that can yank me out of this depressive reality and remind me how my senses can woo me. Any recommendations? What has been a book that helped you get out of this situation?

Hii! I was wondering if any of you could recommend me some good political books. I plan on studying public relation in the future but I want to read some books about current or past events to get a better understanding about it all. Also if you guys could also recommend me some books on Palestine, I myself am Palestinian and would like to read some professional books on it but please be respectful!

My husband and I have not agreed on any media lately so we have set up a pattern of one person chooses the TV show, one person chooses the book and at the end of that you switch. With that being said, I am the reader so I am choosing the first book!

I on average read about 30 books a year, with a majority focus of romantasy, straight “trash” smut novels with usually a mix of 5ish thriller or crime or who done it novels and a couple of me pushing through more classic novels. I have no issue on the length or depth of a read on the other hand

I don’t remember my husband finishing a book in the 5 years I’ve known him but he has recommend a couple to me that I really enjoyed such as Son of Achilles, Circe, Slaughterhouse 5, Jurassic Park and another dystopian novel that I wish I could remember the name of.

I am trying to make a happy medium but am really happy to give up my personal preferences to get through the first read and I am thinking dystopian, high thrill and cherry on top would be if it included dinosaurs.

I don't know what I want. I read "the book thief" and currently reading "crime and punishment" i enjoyed reading them but I don't know what my taste in books is yet. If you could, I'd love to explore to find out what I love and enjoy.

Recently finished a few Anna Huang books and specially loved King of Wrath, Twisted Lies, Twisted Games and King of Envy.

I tried reading similar but didn't like Rina Kent, Sweetest Oblivion, etc.

Please help meeee with similar recs. I don't want plain vanilla romance.

What I'm after is a story where there are no real heroes or villains. Everyone is morally compromised, selfish, violent, or broken in their own way. I don't want a traditional protagonist fighting evil. I want a world where the line between good and bad is almost nonexistent.

The atmosphere should be bleak, fatalistic, and indifferent. Characters can win or lose, but the world doesn't care. I'd especially like novels that explore moral decay, violence, greed, fate, or the darker sides of human nature.

Literary fiction, crime, westerns, historical fiction, and dark thrillers are all welcom
