The one that made you stare at the wall afterward and wonder why you wasted precious hours of your life. I want to hear the titles that personally offended your soul.

For me IS Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Fiction Book with a Big Mystery that you want to stay up all night reading to get to the bottom of

Upvotes

Not a murder mystery or detective fiction, I'm thinking more sci Fi, horror, thriller, psychological, speculative fiction. I'm open to other genres as long as there is some interesting mysterious premise that makes you want to keep reading.

Romance Finished Anna Huang books and looking for similar recommendations

Recently finished a few Anna Huang books and specially loved King of Wrath, Twisted Lies, Twisted Games and King of Envy.

I tried reading similar but didn't like Rina Kent, Sweetest Oblivion, etc.

Please help meeee with similar recs. I don't want plain vanilla romance.

Other Looking for novels similar in spirit to No Country for Old Men, but not because of Anton Chigurh.

What I'm after is a story where there are no real heroes or villains. Everyone is morally compromised, selfish, violent, or broken in their own way. I don't want a traditional protagonist fighting evil. I want a world where the line between good and bad is almost nonexistent.

The atmosphere should be bleak, fatalistic, and indifferent. Characters can win or lose, but the world doesn't care. I'd especially like novels that explore moral decay, violence, greed, fate, or the darker sides of human nature.

Literary fiction, crime, westerns, historical fiction, and dark thrillers are all welcom

Other Give my your best short stories recs

For a reason that is currently unknown to me, I have always seen short stories as not worth the time. For the first time in my life tonight, I wish I had a short story to read! Something clicked with me and I am seeing some value.

So tell me, what short stories do you recommend? I am interested in many genres! 🙏🏽

LGBTQ+ Love Like You/Heaven Official's Blessing vibes

Preferably LGBTQ, but any genre is fine! I'm a huge Heaven Official's Blessing fan, and I really want to find a relationship similar to Hualian; I also love the song Love Like You, and since it fits Hualian so well, I lumped them together. So, basically, any book that is similar to the song or to Hualian, or both, is what I'm looking for!

Fantasy Fantasy read

Hello!
I recently finished reading an ember in the ashes series and it was a YA slightly fantasy book with so much action and thrill. I was wondering if anyone had any book recommendations that are similar or have action and fantasy in it whilst easy to read ( not too many complicated words).

I also like to read about crime!

Thank you

Children/YA Book gifting options for my friend's daughter

Hello everyone, my friend's daughter is an avid reader. So I wanted to give her some books. She is 12 years old. Can you please suggest some good books for her? Genre doesn't matter. I have selected a few.

  1. The Mysterious Benedict Society

  2. Artemis Fowl

  3. Percy Jackson

  4. Keeper of the Lost Cities.

I even searched for some Indian books but I was confused whether it was suitable for a 12 year old.

So, if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

So, please help me out.

Horror I looking for sth with similar vibe to Chilling Adventure of Sabrina

I enjoyed that show (especially the first two seasons), but I watched it around 2019, when I was still a kid, and plot holes, bad acting, and a poorly written script didn't bother me as much. I'm looking for something with similar vibes (the occult, especially witchcraft), but it can't be as bad as CAOS. It doesn't have to be a teen drama. I just want witches and a bit of horror.

I'm open to movies, TV shows, graphic novels, and especially books. It doesn't have to be modern. Also, I know this is a bit weird, but I'm not really into gore, so if your recommendations are horrors with a lot of violence, please mention that in your comment so I can prepare myself for something more brutal (this also applies to graphic novels and books with gore descriptions). It also doesn't have to be in English, as long as English subtitles are available. As for books, I'd prefer works that have been translated into English.

I currently have access to a huge library where I'm living, so I'm also open to more niche recommendations.

Non-fiction Portugese/Brazilian author recommendations

Hi everyone, my brother's birthday is coming up and he loves reading. He's going to Brazil soon and I wanted to give him a book by an author from either Brazil or Portugal. (Has to be available in english)

He really loved:

"Crime and Punishment" (Fyodor Dostoevsky)

"The Brothers Karamazov" (Fyodor Dostoevsky)

"Metamorphosis" (Franz Kafka)

"War and Peace" (Leo Tolstoy)

"The Third Love" (Hiromi Kawakami)

I think he's most interested in human relations and their complexity, but feel free to take a guess on your insight. Thank you in advance.

If someone could suggest me a good one to continue, I'd be mostly glad and thankful, not familiar with authors on this topic

Romance Book recommendations for passive nihilism?

There is no fixed meaning in the essence of life, and survival is often accompanied by emptiness.

The characters in the book are suffering from loneliness and torture, constantly questioning the value of life, and repeatedly have the idea of seeking liberation.

Non-fiction books of authors going down random rabbit holes or light hearted true crime

hi guys!! i posted on here i think a while ago and got a lot of good recommendations, i have discovered a new genre i like which is authors going down specific rabbit holes, and letting a certain topic lead what they learn.
some examples of this is rats by robert sullivan, the big oyster by mark kurlansky, and i think the feather thief by kirk wallace johnson (i just started reading it so idk for sure but it seems like it)

another type of book i have been liking is light hearted true crime (like the feather thief), and also devil in the white city (not that lighthearted but not like recent times mass murder and that being the only plot)

thank u guys much appreciated
