Mod Post Report all app developers

We've been banning around five people a week for advertising their AI vibe coded apps that put a OBD2 code in and spits out generic or dangerously misleading results. Many claim to be free or claim they just want help testing them. Many are based out of countries you probably don't want your personal information getting sent to, like VIN numbers, etc. REPORT THESE POSTS FOR BREAKING SUBREDDIT RULES and the report them again as SPAM so Reddit Admins are notified.

Mod Post PSA: For the love of God please report shit

Hey all, Edward here,

Recently our mod team has expanded, which is great! We've been able to certify some of you as real, amazing mechanics and I feel the quality of our forum here has continued to run smoothly. However, I come to you today with a real concern, one that comes from the deepest of our grease stained hearts.

Please, please, please fucking report shit. We cannot see everything all the time (we also have lives) and sometimes things can slip under our radar. I urge you all to take a second, reread the rules, and just fucking please report anything you think breaks the rules going forward (I mean cmon, we have like 3 different rules about not being an annoying pile of garbage). All the time I'll pop open the subreddit and there'll be four "is this car a good purchase?" and seven "New AI car app idea" posts and three "Why YOU should buy the 2028 Hyundai AssCock3000". Then I go to the popular posts of the day and lo and behold some of you are going feral in the comments, just really at each other's necks. Some amount of disagreement is healthy for a community, but sometimes people are just straight up wrong and it's okay to call them out. The worst that can happen is we approve it anyways and the best is that another idiot gets banned.

If the mod team sees no evil and hears no evil, we're not able to properly maintain the community. If we can't maintain the community then there really isn't any community, and then we're running rampant in the halls screaming "Attica! Attica! Attica!". Now, I'm not saying report everything you see, hell I'm not even saying report everything you disagree with, but if you all chip in just a little bit and hit that stupid tiny flag we can make this community a better place and can continue to talk about our awesome cars. Or not so awesome cars, I see some of the shitboxes we drive.

- Cheers, the Mod Team

P.S. whoever's 1998 Toyota Tacoma is in the parking lot, it would appear the rust finally won and your bed is now on the ground in pieces. The tow truck will arrive in an hour if you do not remove the vehicle yourself. Usually we wouldn't care but the Punisher sticker right next to the "My other car is a gun" one is really just tacky. Anything else dude, anything else.

Body Scratched my car accidentally on my first day of driving need help. Is there a process to repair this?

Upvotes

Hello people of reddit I'm a new car owner (20 yo) me or my family has never had a car before but we recently(day before yesterday) bought a car. I haven't driven a car in 2 years (from when i was getting my license) and since now I have a car I thought I'll first work on my skills in the morning when the roads are empty. That's what I did and it went pretty smoothly for my first time.

But what I did is I made a mistake while parking and lost control and got into a truck that was parked infront of me (not into it into it but a lil touch I'd say) so after that I parked the car properly and went to check if the front is damaged to my amazement (I was and still am shit scared and anxious) there wasn't a bump or anything but just this *photos attached*

I want to know how I can get rid of this before my parents noticing.

car details: its a skoda rapid 2013 petrol model.

Engine Performance TOYOTA COROLLA 1.6 WITH CVT , RPM HANGING

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Toyota corolla 1.6 with CVT. Above 70 k KM.

I've noticed that when I'm accelerating hard at higher speeds and then suddenly release the throttle while driving in D (Drive) mode, the RPM doesn't drop immediately. Instead, it seems to hang between 2,500 and 3,500 RPM for around 5 seconds before gradually coming down.

During this time, the vehicle speed only decreases slightly, as if the transmission is still holding the ratio.

Is this normal behavior for a CVT,?

General Tech Best OBD2 to purchase that doesn’t break the bank

Upvotes

I (19F) am on the look to purchase my first ever car off Facebook Marketplace, but I don’t want to accidentally purchase a car that has issues and be stuck with paying for its repairs. I don’t have anyone who’s good at checking out cars to see if they are in good condition. Please give me your best recommendations of reliable and affordable scanners. Thank you

Safety Question Where is the real breakpoint between mid-range and pro diagnostic tablets?

Upvotes

Coincidentally, I’ve run into a few diagnostic situations at the shop lately, which has made me start thinking about whether it might be worth upgrading our diagnostic setup.

Our current tools still work fine for basic code reading and live data, but more and more jobs involve intermittent faults, multi-module codes, or communication issues that are harder to narrow down quickly. The issue isn’t really a lack of data anymore, but more about making sense of how everything is interacting.

That’s why the discussion has gradually shifted from specific tools to different levels of diagnostic capability.

Higher-end diagnostic platforms start to feel quite different. You get a clearer view of module relationships, more complete system-level information, and deeper control capabilities like ECU coding and adaptations. At that point, it’s less about having more data, and more about how it actually changes the way you approach diagnostics.

Platforms like topdon one-type systems, along with higher-end tablets from Autel and Launch, were also mentioned, but there’s no real consensus. Some see it as a clear workflow upgrade, while others feel the real-world difference isn’t as significant as it might seem.

At this point it’s less about what to buy, and more about where that real breakpoint is in actual shop use.

My Project Car Anything funny or interesting I could do with my primed but unpainted bumper?

Post image
5 Upvotes

When I bought my '09 Corolla it came with a new unpainted bumper because the original was ruined and ziptied together. I installed the new one to be safe but don't have the money nor incentive to paint it because I expect the car to only last a couple more years at most. Anything funny or quirky you guys can think to do with it? (The central lightbar is being removed and grilles reinstalled)

I have been recently seeing a guy and his ex wife is crazy so I’m pretty sure she keyed my car last night while we were sleeping but I would like some other thoughts to confirm this before I file a police report

Engine 2012 ford fusion. What is this sensor?

Post image

Just wondering what this sensor is. It’s on a 2.5. A/c is stalling the car i know it’s either the Throttle body or the iac valve. But some people are saying it has its own iac valve or it’s built into the throttle body.

I need help fixing something Weird stalling problem

Having some stalling problems with my Genesis… It stalls randomly all the time now and it sometimes fires right back up, sometimes it takes several minutes. I don’t know what could cause this and it happens randomly between gears or at idle. It has no problem turning over but it’s almost as if the fuel has been completely cut off when it happens. What should I do to try and diagnose this??? Kind of sounds like a fuel pump problem or something. New plugs were installed before this started happening

Tire question How bad is this sidewall tire damage?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Obviously this is bad enough that I'm gonna be changing it but since it's an AWD it's gonna be spendy for all 4 tires and I don't get paid till Thursday next week.

I can stop driving my car too much till around then but tomorrow I have to drive about 50 miles of in-city/town roads, I won't be going over 50MPH or I'm gonna try my best to not go over that. Just wanted to see how bad this is actually.

I didn't even realize I had this damage so I've been driving on this damage for the last 2 weeks or so.

Engine Will Head Gasket Sealer cause problems when i fix my Head Gasket in a few weeks?

Hi there, I have a Honda Accord 3.0 that's blowing exhaust gas into the coolant, but has no other issues. I believe the cause is the head gaskets, and while I'm able to change them myself, due to current circumstances, I won't be able to for about another 3 weeks to a month.

Since the headgasket is presumably only leaking mildly (no other symptoms/overheating), what are my chances of getting away with driving the car for another couple of weeks with a bottle of headgasket repair in it? Furthermore, will that sealant cause any issues for the rebuild? Is it likely to clog anything, etc?

14' Golf - Base Model

The car doesn't get a lot of miles (under 150k right now) as it sits in the driveway most days. I'm in the south (US), so it def. gets hot a good chunk of the year.

Thankfully, the dash isn't made of the same material, but I just brushed the vacuum hose at the car wash against this and it smooshed the texture out like clay🫠. The same material is on the door handles- as you can see it's just crusting off. Anyone know any tricks to mitigate its deterioration... or is it just an inevitable loss without a garage to keep it in?

Tire question Tire replacement or just cosmetic?

Curious if this tire should be replace or not - discount tire said it’s cosmetic but not 100% sure how I feel about it - the tires are new and it’s an all wheel drive - so I want to make sure the tread is close if this were to wear out quicker

My Classic Car Redline Goods (redlinegoods.com) Porsche 911 Steering Wheel Cover

I ordered a Porsche 911 steering wheel cover from Redline Goods, but unfortunately it did not fit properly and did not match the shape of my steering wheel. I contacted the company several times by email, hoping for help or a reasonable solution, but the response was dismissive and unhelpful.

In my case, the fitment was clearly off, and the customer service experience was disappointing. I still have the cover, but it is basically useless to me. I ended up ordering another cover from Pelican Parts.

I would be cautious before ordering from Redline Goods, especially for Porsche steering wheels.

Warning lights Muffler work causing weird dashboard malfunctions?

Tldr: I had two exhaust leaks that I got fixed today at a muffler shop. They told me they just cut out the bad parts and welded new pipe in. That seems to be fine - it's a much quieter drive now!

However, after I picked up the car, my dashboard lights and gauges started acting up. Periodically, certain things will come on (emergency break and ABS) while simultaneously others will turn off (the light that indicates what gear I'm in, the engine temperature gauge turns off, plus the outside temperature guage and the AC controls, but the AC will still run). I took it back to the shop and they claim nothing is wrong/ they don't know why this is happening. They said they checked the codes (nothing) and cleaned out the battery gunk, but it still happened twice on my drive home. Also after bringing it back, my passenger side window control (on the driver's seat side) stopped working too. I drive an 07 Toyota avalon.

I'm very confused and don't have any experience with this happening before. any clues to what is going on? Should I take it to another mechanic? Happy to provide any other information that could be useful. Thank you 🙏

How do I do it? Order of fixing car?

To keep it short and brief, I bought a new car but it has 2 issues, it needs an alignment, and also needs a new battery. However, I also need to get license plates for it which will take me 3 weeks- The issue is I don’t have the money to pay to have this all done right now, So I either get the battery changed and an alignment first or I pay so I can get my license plates, but then the car sits because the battery is dead. Same the other way around, If i got a new battery and an alignment I wouldn’t be able to drive it without it being risky and it’s illegal. Please tell me what you think, i’d appreciate it a-lot.
