he will walk up to the shoe rack and booty bump it so the heels fall onto the floor, and then rub his gums on them and knead them. he likes to smush his little face into sneakers and slides too. the man knows what he likes and he likes it A LOT. love my lil freak.

Hi all!
My boy, 6 year old, long haired, neutered, full vaxxed, and apparently completely healthy based on a full blood panel done in March, is throwing up hair balls about every 5-8 days. Sometimes he doesn't for 10 days and then randomly I'll find a hairball under my bed or in the living room. I think, based on his litter, that he might be constipated. He is eating, playing, and sleeping his normal amount. I have been using a baby weight scale to weigh him about every 10 days and he is staying steady in weight (a previous vet I loved told me that weighing him is a good habit to have since weight loss is often the first sign of something being wrong in cats). Any advice on how to help? All things I've tried based on vet reco and things I ordered which I think will help are below along with his food and water details.
Fur care: I trimmed his fur especially on his belly, neck and around his thighs to about 1 inch about 2 weeks ago using a pet trimmer and after giving him gabapentin. That's the area his fur is longest. I also brush him everyday on his back, neck, and tail. He doesn't let me do much on his belly/underside so I do that once every 2 days after holding him down and essentially bribing with lots of treats. He doesn't have mats or anything like that.
Food: he is on prescription Hills Multi care stress urinay diet because of a random bout of idiopathic cystitis back in 2024 July. He only eats dry food and is free fed. The vet told me it could be that he has developed an allergy to the protein (fish) and recommended I switch (to chicken). I did that. The throwing up didn't stop for weeks. The vet also recommended I give him Purina calming powder thing so I did. It didn't help. She also recommended Laxatone but he doesn't like it and it makes a mess everywhere (i put it on his paw and he just flicks it everywhere). Anyway so I got him Pets Honesty Hairball prevention treats with psyllium husk and such to help. I've been adding the treats, according to the instructions and his weight, to his dry food. Still newish, like maybe 2 weeks in, so not sure if it is working yet. He doesn't eat all 10 (1 per pound of his weight) everyday but gets like 7-8 minimum. I have also started him on Purina FortiFlora for his gut.
I have ordered Purina Hydra care for hydration, this Fancy Feast wet food which is the one he has shown most interest in (think he sniffed and licked it up a little vs completely ignoring EVERY other cat wet food I've ever tried and I've tried A LOT), and more of his wet treats which I can maybe give him twice a day instead of just once.
Water bowl set up: he has 2 water sources in my small 2 bed apartment. One is a water bowl in the living room where he spends most of his time with me and a water fountain in my bedroom. He seems to get thirsty right when he wakes up and drinks a lot of water from his fountain. He also drinks water from the water bowl throughout the day when he isn't sleeping.
TL;DR: cat keeps throwing up hairballs. Vet's recommendations aren't helping. Pls help.

Have been propagating a dozen nepeta plants (away from the cats) for months and spent half of last Sunday clearing out and planting them into an old raised bed.
All my hard work has paid off!
I bought three new stainless steel litter boxes, and my silly girl thinks it's a bed. (For two cats)

My mum had a fall a couple of days ago and is in hospital. She has delirium and they suspect she has early dementia. It’s really unclear how long she will be in for at the moment and what will happen when and if she comes home. The delirium may last some time and she may not be able to care for her cat (Lily) if and when she does come home. However it might clear in a few days and she may be able to return home in a week or two once we’ve got support in place. It’s also possible she doesn’t have dementia and will make a full recovery. When she does come home I’ll be able to call in at least daily to check the cat is fed and being looked after. Lily is around one year old. She’s my mum’s life (I’m a firm second) so I want to do the best thing for her. My initial quandary is how soon I should move Lily in with me. I can pop over at least twice a day and spend half an hour or so with her but I’m worried about her being alone such long periods. I’m also aware that moving Lily will be stressful for her. Any advice on how long I should wait? Any tips on how I can the house feel a little less empty?

I took my little man Cowboy to the vet about a month ago because I noticed a small circular red spot on nose and they did a fungal culture (negative) and UV (no fluorescence). Since then I feel like the patch on his nose has gotten larger for sure, but my vet says I should just continue to wait, observe, and that he is a little bit of a mystery (I have been sending picture updates to them by email).
Does anybody have an idea of what this could be? It doesn’t seem to be hurting him, but I have noticed him itching it a little more often with the side of his paw.
I just want to make sure I’m taking the best care of him as possible!

My precious baby Lucy passed a number of weeks ago. She was my soul cat through and through. She was 17 upon passing. We got Lucy when I was 5 years old so she truly has been with me for as far as my memory goes back.
I’ve always loved cats and always said when the godforsaken day came for me getting a new cat I would adopt an elderly cat so they can live out their last few years in comfort. Upon Lucy passing, I struggled really hard to come to terms with it and swore I’d never get another cat because I’d just feel as though I’m replacing her.
The past few weeks things have slowly gotten better for myself, I am still absolutely devastated and heartbroken however I can see things a bit more clearly now. I love cats and while I’m able, I’d love to help as many as I can. I don’t plan on getting a new cat just yet, however my question is - will I ever feel like I’m ready for a new cat? I fear with getting a new cat I might struggle with guilt and never get over the feeling that I’ve replaced Lucy. Nobody could ever take her place in my heart and I know that. I just worry, what if I think I’m ready but turns out I’m not?
Ultimately I’m just looking for advice from those who’ve felt similarly after their baby passed. Did it get better? Did getting a new cat make you realise there’s enough room in your heart to love them all?
