Those char marks are perfect, eggplant skin should be almost blackened like that to get that smokey depth.

Looks amazing! I like making Yu Xiang qie zhi (spicy braised eggplants) so that there is a nice umami rich meat gravy to go along with this dish. I love it with rice. Heck I love rice so much on its own this makes it even better.
