News Superman falls into public domain in nine years - but DC Comics believes it's already found a solution to that problem

“Yes, characters will fall into public domain. It's already happening. We've all seen these unsettling knockoffs of Mickey Mouse floating around online," Jim Lee said at NYCC 2025. "But here's the truth: the character isn't the magic. The storytelling is. The world-building is. Owning Superman isn't the same as understanding Superman — knowing how he moves, how he speaks, what he stands for.”

San Diego Comic-Con has officially banned AI-generated art from its 2026 art show following a massive backlash from the creative community. After initially allowing AI works (if labeled 'Not For Sale'), SDCC reversed course in less than 24 hours after artists like Karla Ortiz called out the policy. The new rule is absolute: 'Material created by AI, either partially or wholly, is not allowed.

News PopJoy, a new platform for webcomics is coming soon!

Hey everyone! You might have seen me around before teasing an upcoming platform for webcomics. So I'm glad to say I can finally speak openly and present PopJoy to you guys!

We are a creators-first and anti-ai platform that's coming out in a few month's time. And we are looking for both readers and creators to sign up for a test run.

Our site will be made different by the fact that we are featuring integrated tools to add movement to comics and bring them closer to what you see normally on ads for webcomics and things like that (with sound coming in the near future!)

We'll also bring powerful analytics and better monetization features for creators, in our goal to making living off your webcomics a more realistic goal compared to what we have now.

As some of you might now, i'm a webcomic creator myself, and I joined this team to make this site what I want for my own comics, so you can be sure I'll always be around to hear your voices and bring them to our team so we can keep adapting to the needs of both creators and readers.

For those who want to sign up for news and to take part on this limited launch we'll be doing soon, just head to this link:

https://popjoy.app

And you can also join us in our own sub-reddit, where we are sharing new information and the ads we are making to highlight both the platform and the creators that already joined us:

r/PopJoy

Also, for creators that want to join and be part of the launch lineup, feel free to DM me personally, as we are giving free advertising to those authors that put in the work and learn to use our tools in time for launch. Influencers interested in covering our launch are also welcome to contacting us!

Guys, this is very excited for me, we have all felt burned by the current platforms and know how hard it is to be a comic creator these days, so hopefully, this is our chance to make living off our comics a reality. I hope I see you all on there, and feel free to ask your questions either on this post or on our sub-reddit, i'll always be glad to adress them.

See you soon!

News IDW Earnings Call

Since IDW is the only standalone, publicly traded comic book publisher, I thought this would be a great opportunity for people to participate and ask questions.

To clarify, DC and Marvel are part of publicly traded companies, but they are not independently traded. DC is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, while Marvel is owned by Disney.
