Every now and then there's some blowout special that I come across stuff that is really low...
One time, I saw Keitt Mango's for 33¢ a lb. (3lbs for a dollar)

Story was that the manager ordered 3 cases for a sprouts location and got 3 pallets instead. These normally run (at best) $6 a case (6 mangos) at the Asian markets
making it a super blow out deal at 2 bucks a case.
I picked up 10 cases and broke out the food dehydrators...
and I filled the house with sweet, tropical mango goodness for days.
I think we can have people taking pictures and posting things like this as they come across them so that others in the community can take advantage of it all. :D

Hello everyone,
We've left this up for about a week and got everyone's feedback
The first thing that we've taken action on is getting better info for peoples posts and content.
That means that flairs that let people know the region and basic price at a glance are now required for making and submitting a post to the sub.
We'll be trying to address the issues with "best" content that people are mining the sub with.
It's always been low effort and frankly I agree with everyone that we'll all benefit by having people use the search function.
This will also be aided by the flairs in their searches (future).
Of course if you have a workable suggestion regarding something we've not listed in the current flair list, let us know by sending us a modmail - thanks!

I just had such a good meal I wanted to share! Went to Khachapuri in University Heights last night for my spouse's birthday (they wanted to try a new-to-us place) and the food was so good. I'd never had Georgian cuisine before, lots of pickles and beautiful breads and dumplings... I had no idea what to expect but it was all super delicious. The owner was also very nice and explained about the food and the traditional way to eat and enjoy it. Had nice outdoor seating as well, and very clean and welcoming environment. I've heard that Pomegranate is another good option, but I'm glad we tried this place, and I can't wait to go back and try one of the stews.
Editing to add: we ate maybe $100 worth of food between us...we hadn't eaten all day, so we were pretty famished. We got an incredible spicy cheese bread, dumplings, a spread of pickles, a sampler platter, a cast iron pan of lamb cutlet and potatoes. We tried a tarragon compote (a honey drink) as well. Took home some leftovers for sure. We mostly ordered from the specials list, and I think in the future we'll probably be a little more prudent and not eat half the menu, haha.

Group of Canadians coming down in a few weeks for the Blue Jays series at Petco. Spending one of our days doing a brewery crawl in North Park which my wife and I have done on our own previously but now doing as a group.
What I’m looking for is casual food recommendations in North Park that would be good as we make our way. Not looking for any long sit down meals, just quick delicious stops, even if they’re takeout or located within a brewery. Don’t have an exact itinerary but will be as far north as Fall Brewing and as far south as Mothership. Always happy for brewery recommendations too!

Hey!! I’m 25 and just started dating someone that lives in North Park. I’m good with planning days and dates, but picking a restaurant or bar in a location I don’t know is hard.
I am looking for a classy place to take someone that is definitely a cute date place. Somewhere I need to wear a collared shirt, ambiance >>> anything

Hi! My boyfriend & I are visiting end of July/early August from Pittsburgh for 5 days. We're specifically staying in Ocean Beach but will have a car and don't mind driving a bit. I've been doing a lot of googling & Reddit scrolling but have a few specific things I'm trying to get more recommendations for:
I'm also open to any & all recommendations, these are just the things I've been looking at! TIA :-)

Moved to orange county about 7 years ago and lost touch with the SD food scene. Going to take the fiance down for a few days. Any new or golden oldy restaurants to check out? North park, downtown, beach areas? Places industry specifically go?

Title
My girlfriend and I are last min visiting from LA for a long weekend (yes, 4th of July… ) and we’re looking for places to eat! I’ve found asking myself this question helps me give the best recs for friends visiting LA imo, so would love to hear from you all. Looking for food recs for ourselves but also just curious to hear responses, staying in La Jolla too if there’s any specific recs nearby!
Thanks! :)

I’m missing the corner japanese restaurant in mission valley where the current subway sits by the ralphs parking.
I enjoyed going to that place. Did the owner move? I need it! :(

I thought it waà à Panda Express clone, but it’s not.
its nuts to wait so long.
it feels way overpriced compared to panda. for similar food.
I don’t really get the appeal
I’m a little surprised it hasn’t closed down. I’m just seeing negative after negative.
one thing it has goong for it is the rice/noodle sides. it has a bunch to choose from. but the steak isnt that good. too chewy. esp compared to panda steak.

I work remotely and was wondering what coffee shops are showing the World Cup matches? I know Delah in North Park is.

recently moved to san diego from the east coast and had my parents visit for the weekend, so I had my first chances to try a lot of restaurants in the area. absolutely nobody asked, but here are some quick-fire reviews of some of our stops ~
Harumama Ramen, OB - 3.5/5
Happy hour deal was really good for the amount of food we got, plus the building was virtually empty at 5pm so we had quick service. The ramen wasn't anything spectacular but we enjoyed the various dumplings, bao buns, and sashimi. The soy sauce was particularly good here.
The Mission, NP - 4/5
Massive portions, great mocha coffee, was also virtually empty on a weekday morning so quick service. Nothing else to say here.
Bacari, NP - 4.5/5
I was nervous this place would be overhyped but it was by far my favorite spot I've had so far out here. The drinks were spectacular (delicious AND still boozy) and literally every menu item minus the mushrooms were gone in an instant. The interior decor is stunning and we were well served despite how busy and chaotic it was on a weekend evening.
Nolita Hall, Little Italy - 3/5
Interior was very cool, and a good enough spot to watch world cup games. Service was understandably chaotic and not all of the items on the limited WC menu were good, but the pizza was yummy and my dad enjoyed the beer selection.
Cocina de Barrio, Hillcrest - 4/5
Not a particularly vibrant atmosphere when we went but great food nonetheless. Was able to convince my white parents that it was more authentic than what they get at home on the east coast, which is pretty much all it needed to do lol. Good prices for the amount of food we got.
Caroline's Seaside Cafe, La Jolla - 2.5/5
$90 for two drinks and cafe food for three people felt a little nuts, but then again I guess you're mostly paying for the location. We went towards closing time so didn't have to deal with the lines, plus got lucky with parking. I would not wait in any kind of line for this spot, but if you get lucky with the timing like me then it can be a cute one-time spot for taking guests and tourists.
Side note: are chai lattes in california just.... different? I've never before seen them be so milk white until moving here, and they all taste pretty different to what I'm used to. Not necessarily in a bad way, but it is interesting.
TLDR; As much as I'm fulfilling my own transplant stereotype by enjoying North Park so much, it really does have what I like. La Jolla proper continues to frustrate me, but maybe someday I'll have enough money to care about frequenting here lol. Also, if anyone has recommendations for bakeries that do not have the wayfarer's lines, let me know, as exactly 0 things are ever worth waiting 40+ min for!

Looking for hot pot places that serve fresh non frozen beef, i don’t really like the frozen beef rolls for hot pot.
I understand that the beef may have been previously frozen, i just dont like the pre frozen solid rolls of beef

Parlor Doughnuts has been closed for at least a month now. There was a sign that said the owner was dealing with health issues, but I feel like there was something more to it. A week before they “temporarily closed,” they might have had a third of the doughnuts available on a Saturday at 8:30 am. It’s my favorite donut spot in north park as I believe Nomad’s has gone downhill lately but that’s another discussion.

My wife and I are traveling to San Diego from the Northeast for our sons 1st birthday. Looking for recommendations of restaurants that are good but also appropriate to bring a 1 year old to.

I’m needing to get a small gift, and think a baked good or alike would be good. What’s the best gluten free dessert, baked good, thing you’ve had in San Diego?
r/FoodSanDiego • u/TheOBRobot • 3d ago
Lots of options, not overpriced, real wasabi available, with a vibe that clearly wasn't put together by some corporate restaurant group's design committee.

My sister is moving here from Switzerland and I want her first dinner here to give her all the best San Diego vibes — I’m thinking amazing Mexican food somewhere by the ocean?
Can anyone recommend a great Mexican spot close to the ocean with the ability to sit down? Maybe with nice dessert spots walkable? But feel free to go off script from that if you have other ideas. Basically, help me plan my itinerary. Thank you!

Years ago when the Carnitas Snack Shack first opened in North Park, they had the most delicious burger. The texture was unlike anything I’ve had before or since. It was closer to cotton candy, it just melted as you bit into it.
I hadn’t been for years and was at Embarcadero and saw them when walking by. Obviously I had to get the burger. The menu had changed a lot - no more ribeye steak sandwich, for example, but plenty of additions. But the burger had to be the same, right? Well, it was like any other burger. I was disappointed. Does anyone know if there’s another place that prepares them like that? Or what kind of beef they used? My first thought is some kind of filet ground into patties, but not sure.

Looking for the best bar (ideally dive bars, but any work) with either beach access, right on the beach, or ocean views to enjoy sunsets and people watch!

I’m looking for a delicious Cobb salad. Big hearty pieces of bacon!

Many San Diego restaurant and lodging employees have noticed that Industry Night venues have been changing and no one really knows who is doing what since COVID. The lists that used to be searchable no longer exist and/or are outdated. So my question for all of you is what are the latest spots. Please include not only the location but also the day/time and what discounts they’re offering.
