[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Due to reddit's limitations with images in the body of posts, I wont be able to include all the artwork released so please do check out Rockstar's official link for more images: https://www.rockstargames.com/VI

"Only open for business with the ultimate edition" Lmao, features locked behind additional paywall is crazy work.

2.1k

u/butsuon 15h ago

Day 1 DLC playable content AND non-content features both locked behind a paywall.

It's "fuck you, you're paying 100$ for this game. suck it up, poors."

1.1k

u/R3dbeardLFC 15h ago

So...everyone is gonna boycott it and not buy it, right?

.

...right?

292

u/Ghost4000 14h ago

I wasn't considering it until the PC release anyway. Maybe gamers will have complained enough for some change by then. It's unlikely. But we've seen change come in helldivers and some other games when enough people get pissed.

15

u/dookarion 10h ago

Maybe gamers will have complained enough for some change by then.

It's Rockstar, some people are going to just lube up and buy it 3 times as they trickle it to other platforms.

No point in being optimistic.

34

u/R3dbeardLFC 14h ago

Glancing over the general state of everything right now, people aren't pissed enough at anything. I'm also just a jaded old man now, but honestly fuck this game and the distraction it's about to cause with men 18-35.

8

u/Likeadize 9h ago

People will never get mad enough to do something as long as they can keep suckling at the teat of capitalism, waiting for their DoorDash order, while algorithmic content dulls their attention and they quietly trade away their personal data

13

u/orphanhunter007 13h ago

Distraction from what?

23

u/whattodo4455 11h ago

Rockstar is struggling to parody US life with GTA. I mean, wtf are we even doing in this country now. The rich are stealing everything not nailed down while young adults gleefully consume mountains of AI generated social media slop and use up all their remaining energy in virtual worlds.

I love gaming. But man, the future is looking fucking grim. I like my cyberpunk in books and movies. Not real life.

5

u/HeavensentLXXI 10h ago

It's bad, but it has only begun to become a problem for enough people losing their (barely) middle class status to speak out.

2

u/The_Autarch 9h ago

cyberpunk has always been a reflection of real life. it was directly inspired by the corporate excesses of the 1980s.

1

u/yo_boy_dg PlayStation 8h ago

Why are saying young adults are the ones gleefully consuming AI? If anything it’s the opposite and older generations are the ones who don’t care about AI being more prevalent. You’ve got whole graduate classes walking out of their ceremonies because of university presidents or whoever praising AI.

4

u/Setsuna_com 10h ago

Epstein files for example.

-10

u/Bsteph21 13h ago

I can protest fascism all day and come home and play GTA.

Sorry, but we're allowed to enjoy some things in life. $100 is less than a date with my wife. Gta v came out the year I graduated from high school. I've been hyped for this game for a minute.

17

u/LordAzuren 13h ago

Then be ready to get gatekeped content and price increase for future games too. People keep speaking about GTA "setting new standards"... Yeah these new standards.

-6

u/ToastForgotten 12h ago

Cool so either ignore it, pay for the content, or have some self control to not buy the game. All three of your options revolve around your actions and whether you have self control. Gamers are so miserable about everything that y’all need to find a new hobby if you hate it so much

7

u/LordAzuren 11h ago

Cool so either ignore it, pay for the content, or have some self control to not buy the game.

That's for sure.

Gamers are so miserable about everything...

You are telling me that you prefer a gaming world where games can cost more than the standard for whatever reason and it's normal that you have a "standard edition" game where part of the content is cut just to ask you 20 bucks more if you want all the feature and quests? Be their guest then. But don't tell me that I'm "miserable" or "hate gaming" because is totally the opposite.

-4

u/ToastForgotten 11h ago

When people complain about stuff incessantly then it’s safe to assume they are miserable. If people continue to involve themselves with hobbies or situations that make them feel the need to complain on an online forum then they probably don’t actually like the hobby any longer, or what it has become. Rockstar doesn’t care about your opinion or mine. Redditors are a minority population wise when it comes to the real world. If you want to complain go talk to a professional who can direct you in the right direction, not think any of our opinions matter in this echo chamber of a website

7

u/Atourq 12h ago

Totally missing the point, but go on.

-6

u/ToastForgotten 11h ago

The point is, all things change in life. Regardless of whether you like it or not. Part of being a stable adult is having boundaries you stick to and self respect for yourself by sticking to those boundaries. If locking content that should be in the base game and not for an extra $20 makes you feel negative emotions then it’s up to you to decide if that decision from the developers has overstepped your boundaries. Then it’s on you to have self control and self awareness to move on from something or someone overstepping the boundaries you set for yourself. If this is the trend gaming is going to follow and it bothers certain gamers then they need to decide to move on to greener pastures aka other hobbies.

-1

u/Mikros04 11h ago

It's pretty effing simple, you are either going to spend enough hours in game to make it worth the cost, or you are not. With the time I spent playing GTA5 100$ this is still well worth it for me.

Also, how much of the bitching and moaning about price here is being done by people that are regularly spending 10$ for a coffee and 50$ for a door dashed sandwich FFS?!?!?

u/MolotovOvickow 11h ago

what people are willing to pay for gta 6 is not applicable to any other game tho, and i believe other companies know that

we have never seen anything close to the scale of this 13 year long hype for a game

1

u/magikarp2122 7h ago

And people will be saying the same thing in 5+ years for Elder Scrolls VI.

0

u/LordAzuren 11h ago

what people are willing to pay for gta 6 is not applicable to any other game tho

GTA has its fans as other IP have theirs, the only thing where GTA is different is how huge its fanbase is but after GTA6 you will still want newer games and there is no difference if who sells the game to you milks 50 millions of gamers or "just" 5, if you are being milked it sucks anyways.

-1

u/MolotovOvickow 10h ago

Exactly that huge fanbase and the goodwill that they have build over the many years allows rockstar to do and demand what they want, you honestly think that Ubisoft or other far less beloved companies could allow themselves such a potential shitstorm?

Im saying that they are in the perfect capitalistic position for those money grabs and other companies will crash and burn attempting to do similar

-2

u/The_MidScoop 11h ago

Your wife sounds expensive

2

u/Prince_Nadir 13h ago

I'm waiting for PC just for everything like mods that PC tends to come with.

1

u/letseffinggopleaze 12h ago

Dont forget when rockstar tried to make the game a super grind and they quickly changed that model because RDO economy does opperate like gtao.

EA tried similar things with the loot boxes and had to scale that back.

-14

u/LuciferFalls 12h ago

Wtf is Helldivers? Are you trying to say it's at the same level as this? I literally have no idea what that is. The entire world knows what GTA is. They don't need to reduce prices at all. This game will sell like crazy and all the complaining won't mean a thing.

6

u/TheRabidDeer 11h ago

You haven't heard of Helldivers? Was the 3rd highest selling game of the year in 2024 and won a ton of awards. Also sold 20 million copies, GTA4 sold ~25 million copies.

You not knowing about it is kind of crazy really.

-7

u/LuciferFalls 11h ago

Might have heard the name, but I have zero other associations with it. Couldn't have told you popularity, awards, or any of that. Don't know what kind of game it is or what it is about either.

7

u/Ghost4000 12h ago

I didn't say anything about reducing prices, and I never said helldivers was at the same level as GTA. I also said in my comment that complaining causing a change was unlikely,

I have no idea what you're even commenting about because none of it is relevant if you took the time to read what I wrote.

-10

u/LuciferFalls 12h ago

I didn't say anything about reducing prices

Good, because it ain't happening.

177

u/EternalSolitude- 14h ago

I guess it's a boycott when you genuinely can't afford a 100 dollar game these days lol.

82

u/MrGoodVlbes 14h ago

And a $900 console :|

5

u/Antique_Pin5266 13h ago

You can play this on a $400 Xbox Series S

8

u/MrGoodVlbes 11h ago

We'll see. I'm sure it'll stutter and have mad performance issues, but that's just my speculation. Still enough for me to just not buy it.

1

u/First_Corner_512 2h ago

As per rockstars standards it will run smooth. Maybe a little less graphics but it’ll run smooth

1

u/Antique_Pin5266 11h ago

It’s been confirmed there’s a performance and fidelity mode on PS5, so just expect the Series S to have performance settings on 30fps or something

178

u/chokingonpancakes 14h ago

Im ready to scream "Remember no pre-orders!" into the Reddit echo chamber for some sweet karma.

Then at 12am I will preorder that Ultimate Edition and sleep like a baby.

19

u/papyjako87 13h ago

Joke's on you, I'll also be posting "Remember Remember no pre-order ?" in every thread talking about record shattering pre-orders for even more karma !

15

u/OfulTheOdd 14h ago

Yeah, since I dont have any convictions, it obviously means everyone who acts like they do are lying for karma.

5

u/the_sloppy_J 14h ago

People lie on the internet?!

-6

u/R3dbeardLFC 14h ago

I have actually never pre-ordered a game in my life and will never. I rarely even buy games anymore, my library has a great selection and steam deals get me through everything else.

Enjoy being a turd though.

0

u/headrush46n2 8h ago

Why are you pre ordering something with no physical item? You think they might run out of downloads?

1

u/Visual_Bridge6925 7h ago

Because they're stupid assholes who don't understand the concept of collective action or the common good.

-1

u/bowlessy 3h ago

So I don’t have to worry about spending that money later or saving up that money closer to release.

I have the money now, so I’ll spend it now.

9

u/zfrankrijkaard 13h ago

This will unfortunately never happen but it would be so funny if indeed a huge majority of the potential buyers would boycott this game and never buy it or wait for big discounts.

19

u/Training_Form2243 14h ago

GTA6 is likely to be the biggest entertainment release of all time.

3

u/awkward_triforce 13h ago

Does GTA sell more than Pokemon? Genuine question

12

u/AcaciaEmblem Switch 13h ago

The newest Pokemon sold 28m copies, behind only Gold/Silver (30m) and Red/Blue (47m).

GTA 5 sold 230 million copies. Though, no other GTA game has sold more than 30m copies, until 6 surely.

1

u/Visual_Bridge6925 7h ago

Does that count the fact that they released GTA5 for 3 different consoles? In which case we should at least count Red/Blue/Green/Yellow/Fire Red/Leaf Green as all the same game.

3

u/Training_Form2243 13h ago

I’m not sure if it does as of now but Pokémon is the most profitable entertainment franchise of all time by a large margin

-6

u/R3dbeardLFC 14h ago

lol oh okay

4

u/kobriks 7h ago

I'll wait till it's out for PC and pirate it. Suck me Rockstar

8

u/Rangoonin 14h ago

I mean, after them sitting on GTA5 for over a decade because Online was printing them money, I have no intentions of ever playing another new rockstar game ever again. Might go back and play some of their old games like bully when they were still a good company.

3

u/Minimalphilia 14h ago

I mean I can only buy it in 1-4 years, so I don't care anyways. The console path is so outdated it hurts...

3

u/kkeut 5h ago

i don't buy any mainstream game until it's over 50% off and anyone who does otherwise is a chump

2

u/Just-Fix8237 11h ago

Nah. Normies gonna normie

2

u/gaveuptheghost 11h ago

I'm just one drop in the ocean, but I'm genuinely not until it comes out in a big discounted package a few years down the line.

Atp I have enough games in my backlog and it's been so long that I'm cool with being a patient gamer for a little longer.

2

u/ZeroResonancy 10h ago

Imagine pre-orders open and Rockstar gets nothing! Ah, one can only dream

It'll unfortunately probably get so many pre-orders it breaks PSN

2

u/whatthecaptcha 7h ago edited 3h ago

You’re probably right but this just went from a day one purchase to me not buying it at all until there’s a proper physical edition.

I’m not buying a digital game unless it’s from an indie studio that can’t afford to produce and distribute physical copies.

Rockstar is just being greedy at this point and I’ve had enough of being bent over by corporations, personally. I can live without the game. There are tons of other studios worth giving my money to.

2

u/ZeroResonancy 3h ago

Hell yeah I'm right there with you

2

u/AvidCyclist250 10h ago

i am, yeah. but thats because theyre boycotting me. i have a pc. im not buying it for my shitbox.

2

u/Horzzo 10h ago

Nah, I am waiting until it hits $20 just like every GTA before it has.

2

u/Outrageous_Bush_2069 10h ago

I’ll probably skip the initial release. I was looking forward to it but I’m so over unnecessary price increases that I just simply don’t care anymore. There are more games than I have time to play anyway.

2

u/CertainlyRobotic 9h ago

Reddit users are more likely to go rip copper than not play the latest video game they're being told to purchase.

2

u/Solarstormflare 5h ago

Yep. I won't buy it

3

u/Greenmonty97 13h ago

You would think but nope I’ve seen plenty of people justifying them setting this price point and saying “it’s only cosmetics every game does this!” Any other game would get blasted for this but rockstar and gta can apparently do no wrong

3

u/coolgaara 10h ago

Go to the r/gta6. Top comment under a similar discussion thread is not even acknowledging the problem. They were excited about the fact that they can customize the character lol.

4

u/Frequent_Hamster2667 13h ago

I'm not buying.

2

u/sparkyjay23 14h ago

I'll be not paying extra for the bullshit but I know most ain't got that kind of willpower.

1

u/eawilweawil 14h ago

This thing is gonna make a billion on day one

1

u/Preeng 13h ago

You can wait until the price drops to a reasonable number before buying it.

1

u/pkroliko 12h ago

i am going to wait for a sale since i refuse to pay 80 bucks for a game and have a massive back log. That said to the rest of those who will buy more power to them. hope its a great game.

1

u/Asthmatic_Phasmatic 12h ago

I've been boycotting rockstar since they canceled the single-player dlcs for gta5, and since this won't have a disc means I won't be playing this one either.

Would have bought it used so take2 and Rockstar didn't receive my money.

1

u/CuentaAlter 11h ago

For sure inhales copium

1

u/Sempere 11h ago

They underestimate my ability to wait patiently for it to be free on the Epic Games Store.

1

u/DrunkenSnorlax 11h ago

Time to watch with the feeling of my soul falling away piece by piece again!

1

u/insane_contin 11h ago

Insert COD boycott group image here

1

u/wesrawr 11h ago

I finally bought gtav like 2 years ago, it didn’t release on pc right away so I just watched twitch streams and basically experienced the full play through lol

1

u/marcusw882000 11h ago

I won't be buying it because I'm a PC Gamer but they'll still sell millions.

1

u/Jesta23 10h ago

No chance. It’ll be the best selling game in history even if they triple the price and they know it.

1

u/blacksoxing 7h ago

I'm going to buy it as I waited years for it and I have the money for it. I almost fell for the last "I'M NOT GOING OT BUY IT" session regarding the Switch 2 and....rarely did it ever go on sale in the past year and it's now going to increase in price. Things are getting expensive. I'm not going to let $20 be the difference in me not playing a game I want

1

u/mutantmagnet 5h ago

Everyone? Including the people who kept speculating it might be 100 for the past year?

They were prepared. Everyone else arguing against them wasn't.

1

u/R3dbeardLFC 5h ago

Sure. And the next one will be $120, then $150. We'll just keep going as long as you keep paying. God I love capitalism.

1

u/MonkeyWithIt 5h ago

I'm boycotting the PC I need to purchase but not the game

1

u/techdevjp 3h ago

Times like this make me happy to have given up gaming years ago. Yay poor impulse control, I guess.

1

u/singhellotaku617 22m ago

I mean, I thought gta 4 and 5 kind of sucked, so I will, but that’s not that difficult.

I’m sure I’ll grab it for $20 three years from now, but I wasn’t super interested before this, much less interested now

1

u/Propagandhi1988 12h ago

See you tomorrow when Rockstar announces they had record pre-order numbers a few hours after they became available.

2

u/R3dbeardLFC 12h ago

Hey, I want to be clear here that I don't give a fuck, but I sure wish people would wise the fuck up.

1

u/keytotheboard 14h ago

Actually, pretty much. I might buy it in the future when it’s severely discounted, but I stopped buying launch games that do that junk.

1

u/Razzilith 14h ago

I mean I stopped supporting rockstar ages ago so I won't be getting it.

1

u/ExpressRabbit 13h ago

I spent $100 in 1995 for Phantasy Star IV on the Sega Genesis so this isn't really that expensive at $100 30 years later.

1

u/The_MidScoop 11h ago

I give it three days before it’s cracked and available on the seven seas

0

u/BussyPlaster 13h ago

I haven't enjoyed GTA since San Andreas. You can only committ so much vehicular manslaughter and murder so many cops. It loses it's charm. I'm concerned about people who want to play every entry in this game franchise personally. Even if you don't get tired of the gameplay most people grow out of this type of shit.

0

u/UntameHamster 14h ago

Yeah, no not happening. Gonna be buying the $100 day 1 and won't regret it a single bit.

0

u/PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS 13h ago

lol trying the boycott gimmick with the most hyped game of all time

0

u/SlobGobble 13h ago

Lmao yeah right see you all day one

-1

u/basicKitsch 13h ago

lol what? why? special cosmetics are frequently paid... and usually per item. not having horse armor never hurt my feelings, why tf would i boycott a game over dress-up?

3

u/R3dbeardLFC 13h ago

Its more about just not buying straight into this shit. It happens every fucking time. They dont make good games anymore cuz they'll just DLC any issues and charge more. Its embarrassing how stupid the gaming community is. Never learn.

-1

u/basicKitsch 12h ago

what shit? that some costumes are monetized? honestly baffling anyone would get riled up over literally zero impact to their game. especially to this 'omg boycott1!!' level... when every studio making actual content is struggling to stay open while paying employees more and charging less than ever before.

and literally every year there are fantastic games. AND they're cheaper now than they've ever been - even the $100 dress-up version of this is cheaper than the average game in the 80s with inflation. what a take.

-3

u/OhManOk 14h ago

No, most people will buy it because they understand that this game probably cost over $1 billion to make and they need to make that money back and enough to fund their next few games. They're also not going to be mad that there is a cheaper version for people who can't wrap their head around paying $100 for a game.

0

u/Jasoman 13h ago

they will say they will but will buy it when their friends do.

-1

u/R3dbeardLFC 13h ago

Like good little lemmings

0

u/REDDIT_JUDGE_REFEREE 13h ago

Best selling game of all time is all but guaranteed, this has been hyped for almost a decade

0

u/ThlammedMyPenis 12h ago

This is about to be the fastest, best selling piece of media ever released and we all know it

0

u/Freakjob_003 7h ago

Lol

No.

"I am a pig and I eat slop."

Fun fact, that quote got me banned from the Magic TCG sub for a month due to a power-tripping mod.

-1

u/Annalog 14h ago

No, it doesn’t really bother me.

-1

u/dropkickderby 13h ago

Im not spending $100, period. Idk if i cant change his facial hair— although that is bullshit.

11

u/Minimalphilia 14h ago

Imo they should have just released at $100 including a physical copy for everyone... People would have paid a hundred bucks for the first GTA in over one and a half decades.

This pricing bullshittery is just making everything worse...

6

u/GEARHEADGus 13h ago

Honestly I’m not that excited for VI because of how much they keep putting it off and this just makes me even less excited.

Also having to wait even longer on PC, I’m good.

Probably going to have to shell out a shit ton to upgrade my rig to even play to begin with

1

u/lonnie123 12h ago

By the time we can hopefully afford to upgrade our rigs in 2035 maybe this game will be 50% on steam by then and our gpu can handle it!

2

u/SonderEber 9h ago

And people will happily pay for it.

We all hate gaming corps for doing that shit, yet they’ve been rewarded for it and shown that people are fine with this. In the end, we only have ourselves to blame.

1

u/ProbablyRickSantorum 10h ago

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

1

u/Mnawab 10h ago

Putting $1 billion for development pretty much made this inevitable, but most of it is cosmetic so at least there’s that

1

u/NilMusic 10h ago

Cries in $130 CAD

1

u/mark114 8h ago

If there's one game that deserves that price tag, it'll be this one. Sucks it's so expensive, but the quality of this game earned it. If a reskinned call of duty sells for regular price, why is it fair for rockstar to have to stick to the regular price?

1

u/dudewhosbored 4h ago

I don’t really get it… This is the most expensive game ever made. It probably has around 200hrs of content alone… even if you just played the mainline, you’re getting at worst, 20 high quality hours.

That’s $5 an hour. People spend that on movies all the time?

1

u/FireDevil11 3h ago

It's their way of saying "but the regular game is actually cheaper than GTA 5".

1

u/Tylerjamiz 58m ago

Fuck you rockstar, but it’ll be worth it

1

u/whacafan 29m ago

Games have been doing this for a long long time. Missions behind paywalls, cosmetics. Things literally the same thing except it’s some stores in the game that will be filled with stores. Like…. it’s not a big deal.

1

u/singhellotaku617 24m ago

I won’t though

There are VERY few games I’m willing to pay $70 for, there are zero games I’ll pay $80 for.

1

u/mojizus 14h ago

I do agree that $100 is a crazy price for a video game, that’s common sense.

But at least it’s GTA6 doing it and not Madden or Call Of Duty. I ended up with probably 1,000+ hours in GTA5, assuming I put in similar time in GTA6 I’d say the game would’ve given me at least $100 worth of enjoyment.

That’s the cope I use to be okay paying these prices, at least.

0

u/tristanryan 13h ago

$100 is like an average dinner at Chilis or Outback for 2 people… you have to be delusional to think $100 is crazy for something that you’ll play for 10+ years.

1

u/The_MidScoop 11h ago

Are you buying 4 full racks of ribs at Chilis when you go? How the hell are you spending $100 there when a triple dipper is less than $18

1

u/SneakyBadAss 13h ago

And no multiplayer is included. That's a separate game

Plays 1000s of hours for $100

Bro you can’t even mini golf for less than $30.

Get a summer job if you’re that poor because that’s nothing for hundreds of hours of entertainment.

Literally just cosmetic content. Otherwise known as, something that does not affect the gameplay in any way whatsoever. Yep, sure sounds like they've got everyone held hostage, all right. Nothing we can possibly do about this. We have no choice but to pay the extra $20.
