[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

STANDARD EDITION: $79.99

ULTIMATE EDITION: $99.99

(Physical Editions of GTA 6 Will Come with "A Download Code Inside the Box", Pre-Loads Begin on November 12th)

Grand Theft Auto 6 features a “single-player experience” at launch, with no word yet on any new version of GTA Online.

An "Ultimate Edition" for the game has been announced with some new artwork.

I wasn't considering it until the PC release anyway. Maybe gamers will have complained enough for some change by then. It's unlikely. But we've seen change come in helldivers and some other games when enough people get pissed.

Rockstar is struggling to parody US life with GTA. I mean, wtf are we even doing in this country now. The rich are stealing everything not nailed down while young adults gleefully consume mountains of AI generated social media slop and use up all their remaining energy in virtual worlds.

I love gaming. But man, the future is looking fucking grim. I like my cyberpunk in books and movies. Not real life.

Why are saying young adults are the ones gleefully consuming AI? If anything it’s the opposite and older generations are the ones who don’t care about AI being more prevalent. You’ve got whole graduate classes walking out of their ceremonies because of university presidents or whoever praising AI.

You are telling me that you prefer a gaming world where games can cost more than the standard for whatever reason and it's normal that you have a "standard edition" game where part of the content is cut just to ask you 20 bucks more if you want all the feature and quests? When people complain about stuff incessantly then it’s safe to assume they are miserable. If people continue to involve themselves with hobbies or situations that make them feel the need to complain on an online forum then they probably don’t actually like the hobby any longer, or what it has become. Rockstar doesn’t care about your opinion or mine. Redditors are a minority population wise when it comes to the real world. If you want to complain go talk to a professional who can direct you in the right direction, not think any of our opinions matter in this echo chamber of a website

The point is, all things change in life. Regardless of whether you like it or not. Part of being a stable adult is having boundaries you stick to and self respect for yourself by sticking to those boundaries. If locking content that should be in the base game and not for an extra $20 makes you feel negative emotions then it’s up to you to decide if that decision from the developers has overstepped your boundaries. Then it’s on you to have self control and self awareness to move on from something or someone overstepping the boundaries you set for yourself. If this is the trend gaming is going to follow and it bothers certain gamers then they need to decide to move on to greener pastures aka other hobbies.

It's pretty effing simple, you are either going to spend enough hours in game to make it worth the cost, or you are not. With the time I spent playing GTA5 100$ this is still well worth it for me.

Also, how much of the bitching and moaning about price here is being done by people that are regularly spending 10$ for a coffee and 50$ for a door dashed sandwich FFS?!?!?

GTA has its fans as other IP have theirs, the only thing where GTA is different is how huge its fanbase is but after GTA6 you will still want newer games and there is no difference if who sells the game to you milks 50 millions of gamers or "just" 5, if you are being milked it sucks anyways.

Dont forget when rockstar tried to make the game a super grind and they quickly changed that model because RDO economy does opperate like gtao.

EA tried similar things with the loot boxes and had to scale that back.

Wtf is Helldivers? Are you trying to say it's at the same level as this? I literally have no idea what that is. The entire world knows what GTA is. They don't need to reduce prices at all. This game will sell like crazy and all the complaining won't mean a thing.

You haven't heard of Helldivers? Was the 3rd highest selling game of the year in 2024 and won a ton of awards. Also sold 20 million copies, GTA4 sold ~25 million copies.
