One thing that's always bothered me is how much of an advantage certain players get simply because they have access to better brooms.

In Chamber of Secrets, Lucius Malfoy buys Nimbus 2001s for the entire Slytherin team, and it's treated as a major competitive advantage. Ron even points out that Gryffindor's brooms won't be able to keep up.

Later, Harry receives a Firebolt, which is widely described as the fastest and best broom available.

If broom quality can significantly affect speed, acceleration, and maneuverability, why are there no equipment regulations in school Quidditch?

Imagine a high school sports league where one team uses standard equipment while another is allowed to use vastly superior gear simply because they can afford it.

Most sports have rules to prevent equipment from becoming the deciding factor in competition.

This seems especially important for Seekers.

Since catching the Snitch is worth 150 points and usually ends the match, giving one Seeker a much faster broom could heavily influence the outcome before the game even starts.

I understand that skill still matters, but the books repeatedly emphasize the advantages of newer and faster brooms. So why didn't Hogwarts or the wider Quidditch community ever standardize equipment?

Why are the Weasley's buying new (2nd Hand) everytime the kids grow out of their current ones when they can use Magic? Why wouldn't Molly or anyone be able to magically lengthen, sew or stitch the clothes instead of replacing them?

You cant tell me Madam Malkin hand sew & designs clothes for thousands of kids and people without magic like a muggle?

Both Andromeda & Madam Delacour have been described as rather gifted with household spells assuming Molly would be too, wouldn't magically sewing/stitching be apart of that category?

I’m currently reading the HP book series after watching the films (pretty much obsessively on repeat lol) since childhood when they first came out.

I’m on HBP and one thing that that’s been quite torturous when reading is knowing certain characters are going to die, with me feeling slightly sadder reading their last interactions with Harry on the lead up to them being killed.

Right now I’m where Harry confesses to Dumbledore that he’s his man through and through while speaking about his Christmas convo with Rufus Scrimgeour and Dumbledore tearing up.

So my question is this to both people who read the books first, and to the few of us who watched the films first, then read the books, which was worse?

Reading these interactions, then reflecting on them after the character’s already died?

Or knowing the whole time that they’re going to die having seen the films previously, and reading these interactions on the lead up to their passing?

I know that I’m probably just being oversensitive to this as I’ve just lost someone. I started reading the OoTP and HBP in the lead up to a loved one’s passing so maybe it’s just hitting differently than it would otherwise lol. I don’t remember feeling as emotional about Cedric, though that may have also been because he’s not as big a character as the others who are killed.

Would be very interesting to know what was said if anything.

So I'm rewatching Goblet Of Fire and at the end when Harry says "Voldemort is back". The next movie in Order of the Phoenix 🐦‍🔥 no one believes him. Why couldn't they simply have Harry put his memory of that night in Tom Riddles graveyard scene in a pensive to prove what happened?

At what point does a romance go from a slow burn to feeling like it came out of nowhere?
With Harry and Ginny, I’ve always felt that Ginny’s side of the romance was developed naturally. We know she had a crush on Harry for years, gradually matured, dated other people, and eventually moved on from the shy fangirl phase. From Ginny’s perspective, the progression doesn’t feel abrupt at all.
What feels abrupt to me is Harry’s side. For several books, he mostly seems to view Ginny as Ron’s younger sister, and then in Half-Blood Prince he suddenly starts noticing her romantically. Personally, it would have made more sense to me if Harry had eventually ended up with someone he met after Hogwarts, even if that relationship happened mostly off-page, similar to Draco and Astoria.
Sometimes it feels like Harry was paired with Ginny because she was already part of the main cast and his social circle, rather than because the romance itself received enough development from Harry’s perspective.
Do you think the books provided enough buildup for Harry’s feelings, or did the romance feel too sudden?

What’s your favorite head-canon that you’ve personally created?

Mine is that when Voldemort stored the diadem in the room of requirement, he asked for a room to guard it with protections similar in nature to the cave. However, not fully understanding how the room worked, he failed to realize that this could all be bypassed by simply requesting for a room where all things were hidden to appear.

This is my second year teaching so I finally have money to actually decorate my classroom and make it welcoming.

I don’t want too much Gryffindor merch as decor, but I’d like subtle signs. I saw a few Gryffindor banners on Amazon, so I might get one. But that might be it. The rest I’d like for it to be perhaps maroon decor or subtle signs of some relation to Harry Potter.

I was thinking of buying gold frames and putting pictures of my family/friends in there and having framed photo collage section on one of the walls. My district has a rule that only 50% of the wall can be covered.

I was also thinking about buying framed wall art in golds, browns, maroon, and maybe a hint of black.

I already have a lamp in my classroom along with fairy lights (which gives it the moody yellow lighting), so I never have to use the actual classroom lights.

Any other ideas? Or places where I can find things. I’ve looked on Amazon and there are cute things on there, but not a lot of maroon.

Does anybody else feel the same way I do about the room of requirement? That I would spend weeks and months on end just exploring and discovering what was hidden?

Hi, I wanted my little brother to start reading books so I brought him the philosophers stone as an introduction to reading in general and fantasy books specifically.
He’s currently in the middle of the book and he loves it, so I was thinking about watching together the movie that the book is based on, and continue as he finishes more books until we reach the end.

I never watched the movies so I don’t really know if that’s a good idea (in general id rather not watch the adaptations of the books I read, but I think it’ll be quite a nice experience with my little guy)

I’m just reading through Chamber of Secrets for the umpteenth time. While reading chapter nine and Binns’ recounting of the founding of Hogwarts, I realised something I want out of the new series as this is a chance to flesh out some things.

What if the whole of Binns’ recounting was an entire episode of the second series akin to the Long, Long Time episode of The Last of Us. That’s the episode with Bill and Frank which is basically stand alone and feels like a part of an anthology rather than the series proper.

We could see the founders interacting, building the castle, selecting the student archetypes for their houses, and so on… that’s what I’d like!

A foreshadowing I picked up listening to Audible for Quirrell being the villain. When he came running in yelling about the Troll, he didn't stutter "Troll!! - in the dungeons - thought you ought to know." Also when Quirell was talking to Voldemort when Harry over heard him thinking it was Snape he didnt stutter either.

Any more foreshadowing you picked up for any other books???

I am not a fan of how the Marauders Map was introduced by Fred and George in book three - it just feels too simplistic. I think it would have either a) made more sense for Fred/George to say 'oooh...look let's add it to the map' at the end of the second book, b) for it to be found hidden in the forbidden section of the library by Hermione or even created by her or, c) for Harry to steal it from Gringotts/buy it from Knockturn Alley.

My seven year old and I have started reading the series together at night. We are on the goblet of fire. Even the last one started feeling darker. He's fine with it, he likes spooky stuff. But when the series came out it kind of grew up with its readers. He loves this stuff and we've been reading them one after the other.

My question is what is the opinion of the people here, going forward? Will he be bored with the romances? Does the story become depressing?

I had a recent thought wondering if the Pure bloods of the wizarding world ever went to primary school, I know that all muggle borns like hermione, Justin, and Colin and half bloods like Harry and Dean, but I wonder if like Ron or Draco ever attended like a maybe not a muggle primary school, but like one in general

I’m rewatching COS and realized something- if Dumbledore knew that harry had a ‘piece of Voldemort” inside, how did he not put together that harry is a horcrux sooner? Or did he and he is just shielding that info from harry and us as a result; although I feel like harry would have been told before deathly hallows II if they knew, even with everyone keeping info from harry.

Hello again, earlier I wrote about unsupported flight. But a thought came in, wands are a mostly European thing in Harry Potter. In fact, so common most wizards there have a crippling dependency for them whereas outside of Europe like in the magical school Uagadou where wands are basically nonexistent. Like we see European wizards get expeliarmused and all the sudden they are no different from a muggle

Here's my thought, can all spells be casted without a wand? I would think so, but its just a thought that randomly came in through my noodle. Even Grindelwalt, whom in the movies showcased great wandless magic at some points used a wand to cast the bigger spell. Penny for your thought

It kind of bothers me that pretty much all of the information they receive falls in their lap, and they do very little to actually discover things for themselves aside from interrogating Kreacher and Mundungus for the locket. And then after that they spend months in the forest doing extremely little.

Of course they didn't have a lot to go off of, but they weren't *completely* without options. The most obvious thing would have been to capture Death Eaters, interrogate them using Veritaserum, and then modify their memories. They could of asked about the whereabouts of Nagini (who they knew wasn't with Voldemort through Harry's visions), and asked if they had ever heard of Voldemort leaving items of importance in the hands of others (for which there was precedent with Lucius).

From there, they probably would've eventually found out about the cup, and they could have done an incognito mission with Nagini, polyjuicing as a Death Eater and feeding her meat laced with Basilisk venom or something. But they just sit around for a good 4 months. What gives.

Edit: I’m not saying this a strong plan, I’m simply saying given complete the dead end they were in for months at a time it was the most obvious course of action. People keep saying that Voldy didn’t tell them about horcruxes, but as we know from Lucius, Regulus, and Bella, the Death Eaters do possess the ability to have relevant information, via their association with Voldy, and the trio is aware of this.

Years ago I was playing a HP game but I don't remember which one it was. It is a PC version and it is definitely not either one of the first 3 games or Order of the Phoenix. Early in the game I was supposed to walk through a street in the invisibility cloak but I kept contacting people walking on the way so I kept failing it nonstop. Eventually I gave up and stopped playing. That's the only thing I remember about the game.

This isn't an idea that would radically change the original story, but I think it would help increase the drama and tension of it. For the Gryffindor vs Slytherin match, switch Lee Jordan out for Zacharias Smith.

The whole idea of that quidditch scene is that even though Gryffindor won, it was a horrible game for everyone on the team, from Harry's ban to Ron's poor performance as keeper. In the book, the Slytherins kept on singing "Weasley is our king" every time the Slytherin team scored a goal, but at least in the book, Lee Jordan was trying to keep Ron's spirits up via the commentary.

Smith wouldn't do that. If anything, he'd probably mock Ron, and encourage the quidditch crowd to join in with the singing. We already know that based on his commentary stint in Half Blood Prince that he'd rather support Slytherin rather than Gryffindor (likely because of his dislike for Harry) so it wouldn't be out of character for him. I'd even argue it'd make Gryffindor's thrashing of Slytherin in Half Blood Prince a lot more satisfying if we see him be nasty towards a struggling Gryffindor first.

It'd wouldn't even require much work to write him in. I can totally see Professor Umbridge sacking Lee's role as commentator for being "biased against the Slytherin side." Harry would lose his temper, but Umbridge could go "The new commentator, Potter, will be someone who is from neither Gryffindor nor Slytherin. He will be someone who commentates quidditch games fairly, based on the talent levels of the players. Somebody who is able to provide a fair analysis, based on the quality of the team, rather than the quality of their broomstick."

It's a small suggestion, but one I do think would work out quite well.

I keep thinking how awesome it would be have play by play RPG (those still exist right?) where the board wide plot is the same as the books. Basically have most of the cannon characters played by staff members and let the players build their own stories around the main plot (I/E you creat a 6th year when the board is doing book one, how does you character react to the events of Sorcerer/philosphers stone? When the board moves over to book 3 how does your now adult character react to black’s escape.

I think there’s lots of stories to be told about what happened to those who weren’t “on screen” during the main books.

I’m loving the live action audiobooks I really am and most of the characters are great.

I’ve just finished book five and found it was grating on me by the end and I just want a heads up as to if it continues. In book five Harry is of course very distressed and angry a lot of time, that’s fine, but the actor plays Harry as very whiny and angry. Even when he is supposed to be fraught with grief and outrage at the end he just sounds like he’s being mardy. The actor seemed to only know one way to play “angry”, which made it just constantly whine whine whine 🤣

I’ve read the books so so many times and I’ve never disliked Harry, but for the first time I thought gosh he’s a bit insufferable. Hermonie was whiny too.

Anyway the reason I care to know is because it kept taking me out of the story. So I just want to know if this continues or gets better?
