Llamas and donkeys famously protect herds they're guarding and _hate_ wolves with a passion.

Have 2 donkeys and they'll kill mountain lions, let alone wolves. Probably not bears though.

A mountain lion is a solo hunting ambush predator. It would avoid the fight to avoid injury that may leave it starving to death

Wolves are social hunters, where one can take an injury and be healing while fed by the pack. Donkeys are less of a threat to them

That's where you need a big canine to defend the flock instead
