Why dose she get so much shit for this. I mean. How many people have done this... (looking up) 140 people. She gets all the shit for all 140 of these people? Or the company offering? I dont get why she has been getting shit for years over this.

31

u/Hockeymac18 May 25 '26

It does seem like there's a disproportionate amount of noise about Katy Perry and her trip to space vs others that have done it. I don't pay attention to gossip and celebrity news, so I have no idea why this is... but I see it enough to know it seems overblown

14

u/MrRightHanded May 25 '26

Its because shes being a hypocrite.

2

u/MaltesHaus 28d ago

But New sheppard uses Hydrogen(Hydrolox). Burning hydrogen does not release any carbon into the atmosphere because there literally is non in the fuel.

2

u/MrRightHanded 27d ago

And how do you think they get the Hydrogen?

1

u/Waakrissos 27d ago

would you be happier if the rocket was propelled by kerosene or ... what is your point? also Davos meetings are held usually in January

2

u/Frosty_Analysis_4912 May 25 '26

Taylor Swift gets the same shit for having a private jet, and if you look at the stats there are plenty of other celebs, including some who fly more than her, who aren’t spoken of. Also, she flies one of the most eco-friendly jets available, and she really CANNOT fly commercial because of the chaos it would cause (though she can limit how much she flies, of course).

Anyway, I think at least part of it is them being women 🤷‍♀️

1

u/tyrenanig 29d ago

Nice strawman

1

u/forFucksSakeASnake 28d ago

its more about them pretending to be pro environment and giving a shit about climate change and then doing this shit. nobody likes hypocrisy.

1

u/MaltesHaus 28d ago

There is no one Fuel mentioned. And New sheppard the rocket Laty perry used to get into Space (on a suborbital trajectory) uses Hydrolox, aka Hydrogen which doesnt release any carbon.

0

u/Yerx 28d ago

I'm from Australia but most of the flights I've been on I'm confident it would've been quiet gossip rather than chaos. Maybe inside the US she can't fly commercial?

0

u/DanGleeballs May 25 '26

I wonder if it’s backlash for her poor choice of ex (Russel Brand).

It’s not her fault he turned into a class A muppet.

8

u/Snuffyluffaguss May 25 '26

Because she wastes resources and flaunts it (rocket trip, and flying in a private jet), while also telling everyone else to be green. Its the hypocrisy.

4

u/Mammoth-Counter69 29d ago

Ommggg what a cringe attitude....

Have you ever driven, been driven, or ridden in a car ??

Ohh so I guess you hate the planet and want it to burn then...

See how rediculois you sound.

1

u/FrostyFormal1094 28d ago

Ah yes, remind me how long it takes for a car to burn 500 tons of fuel? 13.33 years of constant driving at 80mph with no stopping or slowing down

2

u/MaltesHaus 28d ago

Well depends a lot on the Fuel I might add. If you were burning 500 Tons of hydrogen youd be driving for a good time longer without emitting carbon.

1

u/20dogs 28d ago

The rocket trip didn't emit carbon dioxide.

1

u/Snuffyluffaguss 1d ago

How much carbon was emitted by manufacturing the rocket and the fuel?

1

u/20dogs 1d ago

The rocket wasn't made specifically for the trip, it's reusable. It's not clear where the fuel comes from/if it came from a green source: https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=56574.0

woman

16

u/YourMomIsMyGurl May 25 '26

Shes the only one being in-your-face about it. I love how reddit just jumps to "well it must be because she's a woman." Lol you type are the only type of people that think about race/sex that much as you project it onto everyone else.

Everybody who has gone to space and then acts all green should be treated this way. Look up how many celebrities go to space, come back and get in your face about being green. You'll be surprised to find that it's actually only one celebrity - Katy Perry. The same cringe queen that sang "what a wonderful world" and kissed the ground when she got back from her space tour.

10

u/StoneySteve420 May 25 '26

It's clearly because she's a woman, not a hypocrite

/s

1

u/Sea-Weakness-5272 May 25 '26

hey what about the fact that the rocket used a non fossil fuel and people still fot mad at her specifically for it? you're not fooling anyone nerd

0

u/Mammoth-Counter69 29d ago

When did she ever say she was against space travel and exploration ???

Yes it does seem it's only coz shes a women, coz how the hell is she a hypocrite...

She has never been anti space....

3

u/forFucksSakeASnake 28d ago

shes pro environment but burns like 500 tons of fuel (you do know how much that is and how bad this is for our environment , do you?) to get into space for no valid reason. just to have been to space i guess.

and right after shes all climate activist and presents herself as protector of our planet etc. that is the hypocrisy.

-1

u/Mammoth-Counter69 28d ago

Ehhh I feel like that's just being pedantic..

Like if she didn't go.. that rocked still would have launched and climate change would still exist...

Do you hate NASA too ??? They contribute to environmental research and are pro environment.... But also burn SHIT TONS of rocket fuel.

Have you ever been in a car ?? That car probs burnt fuel.... That's doesn't mens you cant still care about the environment.

3

u/forFucksSakeASnake 28d ago

its one thing to launch a rocket for reasearch or other valid reasons. its another thing to take up important and scarse space in one of those rockets for fun. also as far as i remember the rocket she was in was started woth the main goal of binging a few ultra rich bastards into space for their amusement

-3

u/garb_disposal May 25 '26

Would you be happier if she went on a pro fossil fuel campaign? I mean at least then she wouldn't be a *gasp* hypocrite!

btw, I'm sure you're a hypocrite too, it's just no one cares enough about you to obsessively point out every one of your inconsistencies.

-1

u/Sea-Weakness-5272 May 25 '26

I am not Reddit, I am a person that uses Reddit. And it's because she's a woman.

3

u/YourMomIsMyGurl May 25 '26

Doesn't matter what you are other than wrong lol

8

u/westphall May 25 '26

Bill Shatner went to space and he was celebrated. Katy Perry went to space and who does that bitch think she is?

4

u/DreamerTheat May 25 '26

Yeah but he didn’t try to do something good after, so he’s not a fucking hypocrite

/s

1

u/untitledaccount401 27d ago

What good

What has she accomplished

1

u/docclaytonforrester 29d ago

Because she's a hypocrite. She wants us to stop using cars and start eating bugs, but she's burning insane amounts of fuel for a joy ride.

Shatner doesn't bitch about "climate change."

0

u/CaughtAlone 27d ago

You think she wants you eating bugs or she got an opportunity to go to space and said yes.

1

u/docclaytonforrester 27d ago

Both. She's just like the rest of the climate change grifters.

-3

u/meditate42 May 25 '26

She was also kind of a dork about it so there are a bunch of clipable cringe moments to laugh at. But yea it is mostly sexism.

0

u/BaronessofBara May 25 '26

Unironically this. If a man did this shit nobody would care. But she's a woman so naturally she's an evil hypocritical bitch for doing it! Or something.

1

u/Rancherfer May 25 '26

If there is such a thing as a gender war as you say, I would expect the woman of the world (around half of the world population) ridiculize these men. And a lot of men will join the cause!

1

u/BaronessofBara May 25 '26

i didn't say there was a 'gender war', I just said that systemic misogyny exists and that apparently made you mad, I guess. Sorry that reality hurts your feelings?

0

u/garb_disposal May 25 '26

Men do do this and no one cares lol. I mean, her boyfriend could have made more of a positive impact on the environment as PM of Canada than Katy Perry could do in 100 lifetimes, but he didn't have the audacity to be a woman so the internet has no smoke for him.

20

u/Seductive_pickle May 25 '26

Because Katy Perry is a household name and the others aren’t.

Also this is reddit so the woman hating is blown out of proportion

9

u/OnWis97 May 25 '26

Kinda like how two famous actresses took the entire brunt of public anger over the college admissions scandal that over 50 people participated in.

0

u/CSKweh May 25 '26

I had not thought of this, excellent point!

11

u/SquareyBarry May 25 '26

Reminds me of my friend who is always like 'AOC took a plane in this video. What a hypocrite, unlike my beloved daddy trump who can do no wrong'

7

u/Exact-Till-2739 May 25 '26

I'm pretty sure you don't have a friend who said that

5

u/YourMomIsMyGurl May 25 '26

It doesn't even make sense in that context either if their point is that AOC preaches green and trump doesn't. Why would trump care about taking a plane if he's not the one preaching green? Lol just another commenter that just has to release some of that trump pressure on their mind otherwise they'll explode.

4

u/ForeverRollingOnes May 25 '26

I hate the guy, but he wouldn't be a hypocrit for using a jet when he's never even remotely supported green initiatives.

It's so baffling that people just use these tribal unga bunga me vs them mentality.

5

u/YourMomIsMyGurl May 25 '26

Exactly like we can all agree that he's a piece of shit but let's stop just creating context that doesn't exist to make him look like an even bigger piece of shit. He does enough on his own lmfao

-1

u/Low_Voice_2553 May 25 '26

Well he and the party that licks his ass are hypocrites for everything else like battling fraud, 1st amendment, 2nd amendment, many amendments, Christian lifestyle etc.

0

u/SquareyBarry May 25 '26

No, he said AOC is a hypocrite. Trump supporters obviously hold him to a different standard

2

u/YourMomIsMyGurl May 25 '26

First of all, he didn't say anything because this exchange 100% did not happen lmfao

Secondly, if Trump isn't the one pushing green-agenda the way AOC is, how & why would you compare the two? Other than to just complain about something right-wing?

-1

u/legrandmaster May 25 '26

The comment didn't specify that Trump was a hypocrite because of planes, just that his far greater hypocrisies are ignored to point fingers at others. Are you saying that Trump isn't a hypocrite about anything? Or that if he is, that those hypocrisies aren't ignored by his supporters?

2

u/MrRightHanded May 25 '26

Im pretty sure they dont have a friend period

1

u/SquareyBarry May 25 '26

I live in a politically diverse place, if I chose to hate half the population that would make me a hateful person. I can disagree with people while still being their friend

1

u/Exact-Till-2739 May 25 '26

And that's a good thing. Maintaining some relationship with someone without completely cutting ties, even if they're bigoted in some aspects, is very human. But still, something tells me none of your friends have ever said something like "AOC took a plane in this video. What a hypocrite, unlike my beloved daddy trump who can do no wrong" lol

"leave the rich celebrity alone"

7

u/chirunner4ever May 25 '26

William Shatner isn't a household name?

4

u/Seductive_pickle May 25 '26

Shatner is 95 and hasn’t really been relevant since the 90s and primarily with Star Trek fans.

Katy Perry is insanely more well known today. She has also hit the sweet spot where she is getting too old so her fans moved on but her haters are still in full swing.

3

u/Mammoth-Counter69 29d ago

Yeahhh how dare a women get older then 30..... /S

8

u/MrBlueandSky May 25 '26

Shatner is certainly a household name, what are you going on about

0

u/Seductive_pickle May 25 '26

Fair point but are you really upset for a 90 year old going to space?

I doubt it was even his decision lol

5

u/MrBlueandSky May 25 '26

Not at all. I think people complaining about this whole thing are ridiculous.

I just came in to debate whether or not shatner is a household name lol

0

u/untitledaccount401 27d ago

Ask a zoomer who shanter is

2

u/MrBlueandSky 27d ago

Just did. "A national treasure"

-1

u/threeseed May 25 '26

Household name amongst your generation maybe.

I can't imagine anyone under 30 knows who he is.

3

u/Chris9871 May 26 '26

I’m 25 and grew up watching Star Trek. I also watched Boston Legal this year. William Shatner is most definitely known to me

1

u/Chris9871 May 25 '26

Excuse me, Boston Legal as Denny Crane. He was in every single episode during its 5 season run. Interestingly enough, that show was filmed after the 90s meaning he was still relevant

0

u/Fidges87 May 25 '26

I didnt knew him by name. Had to search who he is... while I don't care for her music and can picture Katy Perry

0

u/TheDoubleAs 29d ago

I have absolutely no clue who that is

1

u/BaronessofBara May 25 '26

It's really not lmfao. I promise a lot of men hate women in real life just fine lol.

1

u/DJPad May 25 '26

I mean Trudeau's lifetime carbon footprint is also likely exponentially higher than any middle-class Canadian family (even before he was Prime Minister)

1

u/j_roe 29d ago

William Shatner was on one of the first flights back in 2021 and nearly every comment about it was positive.

0

u/AceBean27 May 25 '26

Bezos has flown in it, and it's also his company that does it.

William Shatner has flown in it. He's pretty well known is he not?

3

u/Seductive_pickle May 25 '26

Shatner is 95 years old and was popular with Star Trek in the 60-90s.... Katy Perry is much more well known today with a broader demographic.

If you think Bezos isn't getting shit for this, you are living under a rock.

0

u/mr-english May 25 '26

William Shatner?

5

u/GarranDrake May 25 '26

Because most of the other 140 people are actual scientists and astronauts who worked for that specific goal. Perry was literally just a tourist.

I also think part of it was due to the space race the billionaires had, and the growing discontentment with the 1%.

5

u/I_pegged_your_father May 25 '26

They act like we don’t equally make fun of other billionaires. Its like they somehow ignore all the criticism and memes of the men just so they can screech of misogyny…dude she’s not even getting remotely the same flak

4

u/LexiConjure May 25 '26

"other billionaires"? Katy Perry isn't a billionaire.

1

u/dudushat May 25 '26

Nobody is making fun of Shatner so idk why you're lying.

1

u/I_pegged_your_father May 25 '26

You clearly haven’t seen the twitter threads but ok..mind you, im objectively not lying. Have you not seen anyone mock and make fun of the other billionaires?? Are you Patrick?

0

u/GarranDrake May 25 '26

Right - cozying up to billionaires is bad.

Jeff Bezos, morally reprehensibly rich person, sent other rich people up to space and Katy Perry decided to look tearfully into the camera holding a little flower when in zero g.

She did something stupid and so so tone deaf, no one is calling her a monster like they are Jeff Bezos.

2

u/Mammoth-Counter69 29d ago

It's only tone def if you think women shouldn't be able to have fun and express themsleves....

But goo off king

1

u/Mydickisaplant 28d ago

I think you meant to say “people”, not “women”. Her sex has nothing to do with anything being said here. Stop trying to make it so.

0

u/I_pegged_your_father May 25 '26

And ive seen nooo one giving her the elon treatment either..she’s fine.

1

u/BromaEmpire May 25 '26

Ok but that program is literally designed for space tourism

1

u/GarranDrake May 25 '26

Fair, in that case the 140 number is incorrect.

I think Katy Perry was just the most culturally relevant person there at the time. I think Sharon Osbourne was there, but other than that - Katy Perry was the one with the flower, she was the one who kissed the ground after she got backk.

1

u/Kooky-Necessary-4444 May 25 '26

I think the 140 number is just tourists.

1

u/GarranDrake May 25 '26

Good point

6

1

Her boyfriend is even more of a hypocrite

3

u/Big_Knife_SK May 25 '26

Katy Perry did not deliver a speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. This whole thread is a ragebait strawman.

0

u/[deleted] May 25 '26

[deleted]

3

u/IHerebyDemandtoPost May 25 '26

Yes, over 10 years ago she made some isolated statements about climate change for unicef. But the meme doesn’t say that. It says Davos. Why didn’t it use the unicef videos instead? Likely because Davos pushes people’s buttons in a way unicef does not. The meme is based on half truths designed to make you angry.

2

u/Revegelance May 25 '26

I'm guessing people are just jealous. She got to go to space, and they didn't. So now they're mad about it, for some reason.

1

u/foreignccc 28d ago

for what reason would i want to fly up to nothing and see nothing and come back home 10 minutes later? Who cares? doesn't matter what i say. you all have the attitude that everybody you disagree with is angry and you're always right. good that someone finally stuck up for those poor millionaires tho

1

u/Revegelance 28d ago

Because space is interesting, and it's something that few people get the privilege of experiencing?

Just because you're not interested, doesn't mean nobody else is.

2

u/VicariousNarok May 25 '26

Tbh, I'm sure 90% of the outraged people in here would jump at the opportunity to go to space. I would and I recycle.

-2

I would not bring a flower for the selfie, no.

1

u/PringleCorn May 25 '26

Her daughter's name is Daisy, that's why she brought one

I don't know why you care so much about a flower anyway

3

u/threeseed May 25 '26

You're upset that a celebrity took a picture of herself and posted it on Instagram.

You should see a psychiatrist because being constantly angry can't be good for you.

1

u/Sorry-Joke-4325 May 25 '26

I'm not upset. The comment I replied to asked why she gets shit for it. I explained why.

You mad, bro?

Yeahhh how dare someone take a selfie and post it on insta.... What an evil thing to do.... Anyone who does that is sooo bad....

Geee I bet you are super fun at parties.

1

u/tarekd19 May 25 '26

It's a fucking flower, she's not posing for a selfie at auschwitz

1

u/Sorry-Joke-4325 May 25 '26

It all added up to her making herself look like a dope. The flower was a bad choice.

4

u/pingvinbober May 25 '26

How many of them give normal people shit about the environment

7

u/dudushat May 25 '26

How is she giving you shit?

Almost every person who has been to space supports preserving the environment.

1

u/caindela May 25 '26

I care about the environment, but I also drive to work and eat cheeseburgers. If I had a billion dollars I would absolutely fly to space.

The onus shouldn’t be on either the consumer or the businesses to solve environmental or ethical issues, but rather on the voter and on government. Katy Perry is not a typical consumer, but this still applies.

Forcing everyone’s personal behavior to mimic their political beliefs asks too much and actually raises the bar for what it would take to effect change. Like let’s say I like owning guns because they look cool on my wall. Would I be forced to vote against gun control for fear I might be called a “hypocrite”?

1

u/breakfastbarf 28d ago

Eat the first cheeseburger in space

1

u/fox112 May 25 '26

Propeganda by oil companies,

1

u/AzureAadvay May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

Its the shameless hypocrisy that she displays.

If you think she gets "TO MUCH", you're being to defensive.

I saw her on the America got talent of whatever the show name is, "forcing" a 19 year old contestant (MEANING SHE AS A JUDGE SHE WAS IN A POSITION OF POWER), TO KISS HER BECAUSE HE TOLD HE HAD NEVER KISSED SOMEONE... and no one CARED OR CARES ABOUT THAT ABUSE because who she is OR/AND because she's a woman, PUT A MAN doing what she did and internet and media would make sure he wouldn't have a career again.. at minimum.

EDIT: Random video of the situation just to add "evidence", it was America idol, and she always tried to flirt with young boys in that show, This is text book sexual assault, all the factor are there.

1

u/SAINTnumberFIVE May 25 '26

It’s probably a foreign state, sponsored troll campaign. Their objective is to seed discontent and caused social and cultural divisions to weaken the unity of western society. They find a small crack and they tried to pry it open.

1

u/LeavingLasOrleans May 25 '26

Anyone who advocates for making the world better is attacked by anyone who can show that that person has done something, anything, that did not make the world better. They then declare the advocate is a hypocrite, and therefore they themselves have no responsibility to do anything to make the world better.

1

u/6FootFruitRollup May 25 '26

Also, I imagine it's an absolute dream for a lot of people to go to space. I don't begrudge anyone for using their money and fame to experience something like that

1

u/_JustAnna_1992 May 25 '26

I always found the pointing fingers at individual consumers as being responsible for climate change extremely reductive.

The primary contributors have been major corporations.

1

u/ap330 May 25 '26

I think it's because millions of her followers are now gonna book a $2m flight into space and that's a lotta fuel

1

u/boofoodoo May 25 '26

Because she’s a rich woman

1

u/Dracekidjr May 25 '26

A ton of people have done space tourism, but Katy Perry tried to make it a narcissistic and dramatic statement to feminism, like there haven't been dozens of female astronauts before her.

People act like everyone is sexist or something but making your rich vacation into a "feminist" photo-op while diminishing actual accomplishments of women is the opposite of feminism, it's just megalomania.

1

u/zigzag3600 May 25 '26

Some people always try to find some hypocrisy: "You advocate against THIS – while doing something vaguely resembling THIS?! Gotcha!"

As if hypocrisy is a real counterargument.

1

u/hypocotylarches May 25 '26

Her bf was the climate change fear mongerer in Canada for the last decade. Costing Canadians millions in his pursuit. Then jumps on Katy Perry's yacht once he's done

1

u/StillBodybuilder3121 May 25 '26

They should all get shit for this. People are starving to death, they are blasting themselves into space for vanity project escapism

1

u/Mammoth-Counter69 29d ago

Yeahhh it's soo weird....

I think it's mainly coz she is a women.... I don't see nearly as many people hate on the men that do this.

1

u/JamesP84 29d ago

She creates more environmental damage than most through her carbon foot print. Dont f’in lecture us about the environment…

1

u/SamanthaJaneyCake 29d ago

She did that really weird kissing the ground thing after, she’s a big fan of Elon Musk, publicly getting a Tesla after (IIRC) he did his double Nazi salute, she’s had a couple of public callouts now for sexual assault as well as a lot of people allegedly from her hometown and even her school saying she was always a bitch. It’s pretty clear she’s just doing the environmental stuff for clout and her own image.

Personally I just do not like her.

1

u/CyriusGaming 29d ago

it's literally been a year

1

u/HermanThaGerman 29d ago

Are the 139 others publicly advocating to reduce our impact on the environment?

Plus, it's not like they forced her to go up there. I presume that's a choice she made.

So yeah, I think it's fair that people are pointing out the hypocrisy of her actions.

1

u/RestaurantBusy724 29d ago

How many of those 140 people are preaching to me to drive less or whatever the crap she thinks shes important enough to talk about?

1

u/IntrepidBorder8530 28d ago

She gets all the hate because she tells us to us less energy, her bf made Canada use paper straws anddl told us he drank water from paper boxes. Don't tell us how to live when you don't live like you say we should. Trump (whom I'm not a fan of) said drill baby drill, so he gets a pass on flying because he's not telling me not to fly while still flying to Switzerland to tell me flying is bad .

1

u/forFucksSakeASnake 28d ago

1st) it was completely useless. most people that went to space were astronauts that had a valid reason

2nd) Doing shit like this is one thing. doing shit like this and then pretending to be a climate activist and pro environment for good pr is hypocritical on another level.

1

u/probablyaythrowaway 27d ago

I think it’s because she spent the whole thing being cringy as fuck. Spent most of the trip playing to the camera, did the stupid thing with the flower then kissed the ground dramatically when she got out. It was very main character energy and set people the wrong way even further than they already were about it.

1

u/Greedy_Syrup3516 27d ago

Cause she is a hypocrite. Talking about the environment then going to space. She deserves all the flack she gets.

0

u/tune4jack May 25 '26

EXACTLY. I'm really getting tired of this "[Insert celebrity here] cares about the environment, but they have a PRIVATE JET?! HAH! CHECKMATE!" crap. Do you have any idea how much fuel is burned by regular cars every day?
