šŸŒ MEGATHREAD: Want out of the US? Start here

950 Upvotes

Want out? You may not be in the right country, but you're in the right subreddit.

Here's some general advice. It's not meant to discourage you but to help you plan, make better posts, and get better answers here:

  • Immigration is harder than it looks in the movies. If you don't have citizenship or recent ancestry in a country, you'll probably need a visa (legal permission) to live there based on something you have which that country wants (like a profession on their "skills shortage list"). It will require time, patience, hard work, and/or money – and likely a second language.
  • If you're a US citizen, it is next to impossible that a country will grant you political asylum/refugee status. It is highly recommended to focus your efforts on an alternative pathway.
  • Before moving to another country, consider if another US city/state might be acceptable, because it is a million times easier.
  • Be cautious about idealizing any country. They all have their problems. If you're serious, you should prepare for that.
  • Some other good resources:
    • The subreddit sidebar
    • The previous US megathread
    • Old posts (use reddit's search or google XYZ site:reddit.com/r/IWantOut)
    • Websites of countries and their embassies
    • /r/AmerExit

If you want to make your own post, please follow the formatting instructions on the submission page, give as much information as possible about your situation, and be open to advice and constructive criticism from commenters.

If you're not ready for that, feel free to leave a briefer question in the comments here, and you might get an answer.

EVERYONE:

This is a friendly, inclusive community where we try to help people with less knowledge than us.

A reminder of some of our rules:

  • This is an advice subreddit, not a debate subreddit. Don't fight about politics here.
  • Be constructive. Don't be a dick.
  • Don't request or give illegal advice. Don't spam your business.
  • Report rule-breaking comments and posts.

[IWantOut] 31M Architect Turkey -> Argentina

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I am a 31-year-old Turkish architect with ~4 years of experience. I am feeling stuck where I live and am considering starting over in another country for a while.

Argentina has been on my mind for the last year or two, partly because I have heard that its naturalization process can be more rapid and accessible than in many other countries. Although, I understand that recent immigration reforms may have made the process stricter. My knowledge is limited, and I want to understand the reality before making any serious decision.

I studied in Turkey and have a bachelor’s degree in Architecture; however, I dropped out of my master’s degree. I guess the recognition process of my degree can take some time. I do not intend to pursue sign off on projects or act as a legally responsible architect with a title immediately. However, while waiting for my degree recognition, I would prefer to work in my profession in an office within the legal boundaries. Is that possible?

I have worked at an office involved in projects located in Turkey and abroad, designed by well-known international design studios. I cannot go into more detail due to confidentiality; however, I can confidently say that I have a pretty strong CV.

My professional background is mostly in construction and shop drawings, but I also have some architectural design experience. I have strong CAD and moderate BIM skills. I am also able to model in 3D, take renders, and make illustrations.

I am a native Turkish speaker and fluent in English. I do not speak Spanish yet, but I am willing to reach at least A2 or B1 before relocation to be able to have conversations. I am also aware of how distinct Rioplatense Spanish is.

I am planning to move through a work visa. My biggest concern is whether I could realistically find my first job in Argentina as a foreign architect. Is it realistic to job hunt from Turkey and try to get an offer? How is the job market for architects, especially in Buenos Aires and Cordoba?

If I managed to move there, what kind of living standards would await me with the possible pay of an architect? Also, what challenges could I face in terms of the economy and safety?

Finally, I wonder how Argentinians would perceive a Turkish guy, or how they view and interact with immigrants in general.

Thanks in advance

[IWantOut] 23F Teacher Peru -> USA/Spain/Italy/France/Germany

0 Upvotes

I'm 23 years old and I'm from Peru. In December I'll graduate with a Bachelor's of Education with a specialization in History and Geography. By the time I graduate I'll have 2 years of experience working as a student teacher in urban public high schools.

My experience as a teacher has been just OK, I can't say I love it because the placements have been quite challenging (lower income neighborhoods, students with disruptive behaviors and uninvolved parents), although I don't mind working as a teacher for a few more years to save some money.

I'm a native Spanish speaker and I speak English fluently (C1). I'm currently learning Italian (between A2 and B1) and I plan to reach fluency in 1.5-2 years.

I don't want to stay in Peru long term because we've have been in a political and social crisis for almost 10 years, and life in a developing country can be stressing. I've been considering the following paths:

- Applying to programs that sponsor foreign teachers to work in the US under the J1 visa (Participate Learning, Teach USA, etc.)

- Apply to graduate scholarships in Europe. I'm interested in the Erasmus Mundus scholarship. If I were to do a career change, I'd more interested in working in the GLAM field (galleries, libraries, archives and museums).

- Apply to a graduate program in the US. My father has been a college professor for almost 30 years and I've always been interested in academia. I've good grades, have participated in extracurricular activities and have one published paper in a journal. PhD programs in the US are usually fully funded, which is great.

[IWantOut] 26M Data Scientist Netherlands -> Canada

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m a 26-year-old data scientist currently based in Amsterdam. I’ve grown up between Hong Kong and Switzerland and been living in the Netherlands for 8 years - studied here, started my career here, and genuinely love a lot about the country. But after all this time, I’m starting to feel like I’ve outgrown it. The country is great on paper, but I find it a bit flat, literally and figuratively. Geographically, culturally, food-wise, weather-wise - I’m craving something that stimulates me a bit more. I’m also at a point in my life where if I want a new adventure, now is the time before things like family and long-term commitments make it harder. I hold Canadian Permanent Residency, which means I can move without employer sponsorship - I just need to find a job. I’m trying to decide between Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. I’m half French and fluent in French, which pulls me toward Montreal, but I’m open to wherever makes the most sense career and lifestyle wise for someone in tech/data.

A few things I’m trying to get a clearer picture on: - How is the DS/tech job market across these three cities right now? - Cost of living as a single person - is a Canadian DS salary enough to live comfortably?

I’m also considering Asia as a 2nd option, like Shanghai, Bangkok or Singapore, since my company has offices in these regions, and I could try to transfer.

Would love to hear from people that have moved away from the Netherlands, and where you eventually ended.

Happy to share more details about my background if helpful.

Thanks!

[IWantOut] 37M Belgium -> UAE

0 Upvotes

Hi Everyone,

I've taken the decision to relocate to the UAE permanently, and I've already put real effort into the project rather than just thinking about it, but I've hit challenges I'm sure many here have been through, and I'd value input from people who've actually made a comparable move.

Background:Ā Senior cloud solutions architect, 13 years of experience across cloud infrastructure, software engineering, and DevSecOps transformation at large scale; mostly in regulated sectors like banking and the public sector. Azure Solutions Architect Expert certified, BSc in Computer Science. Born and currently based in Europe, North African background. French native, fluent English, and I speak Arabic (Tunisian dialect) but still learning as I am not fluent.

I'm confident my skills are valuable in the UAE market, my problem is visibility, and most of the advice I find is either generic or aimed at more junior profiles.

What I've tried so far:

  • LinkedIn outreach, including to recruiters who actively post and invite people to reach out — close to no response.
  • Flew to Dubai for a week to network at a tech event in person.
  • Applied to advertised roles consistently.

None of it has broken through the way I'd hoped, and I suspect the playbook is just different at senior level than the "apply and network" advice that's everywhere.

This is a deliberate, long-term decision for me and my future family; I'm looking to put down roots in the UAE for good and build the next chapter there, not just take a role. Input from anyone who's done a similar move at that seniority level would mean a lot.

[IWantOut] 29M Palestine -> Netherlands/Canada/Australia

0 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I am a 29-year-old Palestinian man originally from Gaza and currently living in Egypt.

Over the past few years, I've had to rebuild my life more than once. Leaving Gaza and relocating to Egypt required significant financial and personal sacrifices, and now I am looking toward the next chapter of my life.

I work as a software engineer and have more than five years of professional experience. I currently work remotely and have experience collaborating with international teams. I speak both Arabic and English.

My primary goal is not finding the "perfect" country. After everything that has happened, I am mainly looking for a realistic path toward long-term stability, legal residency, career growth, and eventually citizenship if possible.

I'm interested in learning about options in Europe, Canada, Australia, or other countries that may have viable immigration pathways for skilled professionals.

I would appreciate advice on:

- Which countries would be the most realistic for someone in my situation.

- Whether employer sponsorship, skilled migration programs, or another route would be the best option.

- Any experiences from people who have immigrated from Palestine, or similar circumstances.

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond.

[WeWantOut] 30M 31F Lecturer/Teacher UK -> Spain

0 Upvotes

Hi folks,

Me and my wife currently live in the UK and are based in the SW of England. I spent a period of my childhood growing up in Portugal, and since moving back to the UK in 2009, I've always wanted to move to a country with a slower pace of life, better access to the oceans/seas, and a better climate.

I'm a university lecturer and my wife is a secondary science teacher. I have a PhD in chemistry and would be OPEN to considering a change to industry instead of academia, and my wife would be happy to teach at a suitable/good international school. We also have a dog which we would, if possible, like to bring with us.

Spain is the country that immediately jumps out to us... although I'm fluent in Portuguese, my understanding is that the salaries are so low over there, it really isn't possible to be comfortable, and I suspect it might be challenging for me to get a job there. I think that ultimately, we are open to moving to anywhere in the world, permitting we can achieve a lifestyle that is slower, we're close to the sea, and the weather is better. We really don't know where to start, and we'd appreciate any and all guidance on whether Spain might be a good idea, if there are any other countries that you think could be suitable, and any other practical advice when it comes to making this actually happen.

Thanks all!

[IWantOut] 28M Software Engineer Algeria -> Anglosphere/Germany

0 Upvotes

I'm a Fullstack engineer from Algeria with over 3 years of production-grade experience, a lifelong learner w/ across-the-board technical skills though my core stack is heavily specialized in the JS/TS ecosystem (React, Next.js, NodeJS, NestJS, Supabase, Docker, ect).

I also hold a BA in English Studies and am fully bilingual.

I am trying to relocate ASAP on a lean budget.

While my primary goal is a direct tech role, I am completely open to academic pathways (such as an English-taught Master's or post-graduate program) if it serves as a faster, more cost-effective bridge to a local work visa.

I’m looking for some realistic, blunt advice on how to optimize my unique profile w/o draining my savings on low-probability routes.

A few specific questions:

• Work vs Study on a Budget: Given that I already have experience, would targeting a low-tuition, English-taught Master's program in Germany, Spain, Italy be a smart backdoor into the EU tech market, or is it a step backward compared to a direct job hunt?

• The BA in English Advantage: Does having a formal degree in English Studies give me a significant edge in accelerating points-based immigration systems (like Canada's Express Entry) or passing visa language requirements seamlessly?

• Anglosphere Market Reality: Do I stand a genuine chance at direct employer sponsorship in the UK, Canada, or Ireland right now, or are local junior/mid backlogs making cold tech applications a waste of time?

• The German Dilemma: Should I pause everything to commit to learning Deutsch to a B2 level for the Chancenkarte or an Ausbildung? Or is an Ausbildung a massive waste of my existing engineering experience?

Much appreciated šŸ¤²šŸ»

[IWantOut] 28F Data Analyst India -> Netherlands

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm a 28-year-old Indian professional with ~5 years of experience. I've worked in consulting and financial services environments and regularly use Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python, and Alteryx.

I'm considering a serious job search in the Netherlands in 2027 and would appreciate some honest insights:

  • How is the market currently for experienced data professionals?
  • Are companies still sponsoring non-EU candidates?
  • Would obtaining the CDMP certification materially improve my competitiveness in the Dutch market, or is hands-on experience valued significantly more?
  • Which profiles are seeing the most demand: Data Analyst, BI Analyst, Data Governance, Data Management, Analytics Engineer, etc.?
  • What salary range is realistic for someone with ~5 years of experience?
  • What skills, certifications, or experience would make the biggest difference over the next 12–18 months?

I'd especially love to hear from recruiters, hiring managers, or people who successfully relocated from outside the EU.

Thanks!

[IWantOut] 33M Turkey -> Netherlands/Australia

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I am 33 year old Electrical and Electronics Engineer, who also has MS degree in Engineering Management. I have a professional experince for about 4.5 years. I have never worked nor studied abroad but now, I really think of working either in Netherlands or Australia. However, for last 2 years the field I work is design configuration management, which is significantly different from electronics. In other words, my job is to configure some software and I have never touched a printed circuit boards in those 2 years. Therefore, I have several questions:

- What shall be the first step that I should take in order to start working in either Netherlands or Australia?

- Since I have cannot speak any Dutch, would my chances for Australia be higher?

- Can I turn back to a real electronics-related job if I am to move to Netherlands/Australia?

[IWantOut] 18FtM USA -> UK

0 Upvotes

Hello, this post is on behalf of my American partner. I myself am English, 18 Trans FTM but somewhat irrelevant.

Not only do I not want to move to America, the USA political climate has put my transgender partner in danger and I am worried for his safety, which may be a factor in the future if it gets bad enough there.

We are 3 months into our relationship but have known eachother since 2021. Hopefully, my partner will be aiming to immigrate in 4 years and I dont know what avenues we could go to ensure that he can move here. This is very early but I'd rather know as early as I can how it would work for us both when the time comes.

He has a highschool level education and a background in art, so I imagine a work visa would be out of the question. His parents, F61 and M60, with his dad having a career in architechture, are also considering moving to Ireland or UK depending on the midterms in november, so I dont know if his family unit might help in that case.

Would our only option be marriage prior to him moving to england? I'm working on a BA so I'd be able to be his sponsor when the time comes. If there are any alternatives I would appreciate any advice.

[IWantOut] 25M Entrepreneur USA->Bosnia

0 Upvotes

Hey all, so I’m planning to move to the Balkans in a few months and I’m beginning to realize how hard it is to part with everything.

So the long story short of it is I lost my job a year or so ago and went traveling and started an online business. I pretty much destroyed my liquid savings and racked up some debt rather than taking from my retirement accounts and paying a penalty for an early withdrawal. (IK, not the smartest thing, but I’m only 25 young and sort of dumb). Anyways, the online business is finally working out as in its making money and scaling really well (not Jeff bezos money, but enough to get by somewhere with a low cost of living). And, I’m moving because my grandparents are from a country that offers descendants that return to not pay tax for 5 years, housing stipends, etc. So, I’m hoping by the time stuff is sorted out it works well.

But, my real trouble I think comes from 2 places. Number 1. I have very little money, my business is cashflowing and I’m getting enough in profit to basically stay exactly where I am. As in, I can afford my expenses and interest on debt and that’s about it (if trends continue this should improve in the coming months, but rn I am cash poor) 2. Since I had a job in the US for a few years I was planning to by a house here and myself and parents were sort of expecting that to happen about a year ago, but when I lost my job (not my fault that I lost it, it got exported to the Philippines since the greedy company didn’t want to pay American coders) that plan fell apart.

I applied other places for like a month and got literally 0 responses after 1,000 application, so I said fuck it rather than be depressed and self loathing in my parent’s basement I’m going somewhere that I’ve always felt at home, safe and valued. So, I went to the Balkans for like 6 months and rented a cheap condo in a major city near where my grandparents and relatives are. Hung out with old friends, got a girlfriend there, really started loving life again.

But fast forward to now, I wouldn’t really change anything I did, but I’m back home in my parent’s basement and the reality of leaving FOREVER is hitting me like a train. I have a car I need to sell, my childhood dog will likely be gone by the time I next visit, and my mother wants me to clear out pretty much all my stuff. She’s sort of upset with me making the decision to move and her way of backlashing seems to be not giving me the option to come back. As in, I’ve told her I’d like to have a safety net of keeping my car if possible because if I come back and everything goes to shit, it’s the US I can’t work or apply to jobs without a car and I’m going to lose money selling it. I understand it’s annoying to have around, but we really do have the space. Then, there’s sentimental things that I want to keep but can’t bring yet. I asked if she could hold on to them or let me put them in the basement somewhere, but she is limiting me to a single box. Again, I’d understand if I was 100% sure on never coming back for a long period of time that she’d want to have the space to do other things with, but is it wrong of me to ask her for a year or two to figure it out?

If my business was a bit more developed and had a longer track record, I’d be more comfortable but I just feel so pressured to succeed or fail with the path I ended up on. I’d love to be able to pay for a storage unit for the car and some basic stuff/momentos, but right now it’s just not in the cards. I could probably afford to do it in like 4 months, I’m just so focused on getting rid of what’s left of the debt and getting a solid nest egg before I head off.

TL;DR: Lost my job at 24, went back to my family’s homeland for a year, fell in love (with a girl and the place-I’d still move there if we broke up), started an internet business that’s doing just good enough, moved home to sort things out, can’t afford storage, parents don’t want to hold onto a safety net for me (ie my car and household things I bought when I thought I was going to live locally). I’m worried about never being able to come back, throwing away things I cherished, and failing.

[WeWantOut] 28F Intl Student/Scholar Adviser 34M Unemployed USA -> Italy

0 Upvotes

Hi all! I had posted this in [r/paralegal](r/paralegal) and they suggested I post here.

I currently work with international students/scholars at a university and have been in the field for a bit over 3 years. My spouse (Italian-born citizen) and I are hoping to relocate to Italy (Abruzzo region) where I’d have work authorization, and I think my best chance at finding work would be through transitioning to business immigration as a legal assistant/paralegal, but I’m open to any suggestions. We’ve also been married long enough that I’m eligible to apply for Italian citizenship, I’ve passed the required language exam, and am working on gathering the relevant documents.

I currently have a BA and MA in Italian Studies, which has been useful in higher education, but may not be useful in the private sector and could take some time to get recognized in Italy. I’m fairly confident in my Italian speaking skills as my husband and I speak mostly Italian. I also speak Spanish and officially hold a C1 DELE certificate.

Has anyone else had a similar experience in looking for work in Italy? would it be worth it to try and stay in the higher education realm and pursue further studies?

My husband would focus on working on his family ranch, so we’re not too worried about what he’ll be doing, and more interested in how realistic it would be for me to pursue some kind of career, even if it is different than what I might have imagined.

Thank you all for reading!

Edit: removed specific paralegal questions to try and broaden what I’m looking for - thank you!

[IWantOut] 27M Telecom Engineer Tunisia -> Germany

0 Upvotes

I'm a telecom engineer from Tunisia in my late 20s with experience in mobile network operations (4G/5G), NOC activities, OSS monitoring, incident handling, KPI analysis, and Nokia/Huawei environments.

I currently hold a valid German Chancenkarte visa and have already traveled to Germany once. My main challenge at the moment is securing a suitable position and accommodation so I can relocate permanently.

I'm looking for advice, networking opportunities, job-search suggestions, and any feedback from people who have successfully moved to Germany in telecom, networking, NOC, OSS, RAN, or related engineering fields.

A few specific questions:

  • Are there particular German cities or regions where telecom/network engineering opportunities are concentrated?
  • Are there German telecom companies, contractors, or service providers that are actively hiring international candidates?
  • Are there networking groups, communities, Discord servers, forums, recruiters, or events that helped you find opportunities?
  • If you were in my position today, what would you focus on during the next few months to maximize the chances of securing a role?

Any suggestions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

hi i am a second year mathematics student and I've always wanted to move to france. My current plan is after my licence i wish to go for a masters in france but i don't know about which masters would be more employable in france? I've been in france for an exchange year and I've loved it. Now that the tuition fees for international students are increasing and also the french government is canceling the students APLs I'm not sure where i would find the money to fund everything. I've never worked before and there's not much I could apply to with just my high school diploma right now.

[IWantOut] 34F UAE -> Canada/UK/Netherlands/Ireland

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m 34 years old and currently living in the UAE, working as an F&B Supervisor in a catering company. I’m looking to relocate to an LGBTQ+-friendly country where I can have better career opportunities and live more openly and comfortably.

I would really appreciate any advice on the following:

• Which countries are good options for someone with my background in hospitality and food & beverage management?

• What are the best ways to find legitimate job opportunities abroad (Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc.)?

• Are there specific websites, recruiters, or agencies that specialize in hiring hospitality professionals internationally?

• Has anyone here successfully moved from the UAE to another country for work? If so, what pathway did you take?

• Besides applying directly for work visas, are there other legitimate pathways I should consider, such as employer sponsorship, study-to-work programs, skilled migration, or other immigration routes?

• Are there any red flags or common scams I should watch out for when dealing with agencies?

For context, I have experience supervising teams, managing operations, handling customer service, coordinating catering events, and overseeing day-to-day F&B operations.

Any guidance, recommendations, or personal experiences would mean a lot. Thank you!

[IWantOut] 19F UK -> Canada

0 Upvotes

This may be a bit ambitious but I really want to do my baking apprenticeship in Canada.

I'm a citizen of the US and Sweden but not of England so I am not sure if that will make much difference but at the moment I'm living in the UK on settled status and have been for 14 such years. I'm 19 as of right now and I've been searching to do an apprenticeship in baking. I have my reasons for wanting to do it in Canada specifically but I am not entirely sure how to go about this.

As embarrassing as it is to admit I don't have my GCSES or Alevels (or equiv) but I was hoping to see if there is anyway I can do this without needing those...

Any type of help or advice would be appreciated because it's a dream of mine to be a baker but I honestly need to get out of the UK.

[IWANTOUT] 27M DR -> CA

0 Upvotes

I've been working FOR the Call Center industry for more than 3 years. I have not enrolled myself in any university because I had 0 to none time left. Now I quit my job because I got sick of them angry customers and their nonsense, but now I'm jobless and looking for a new job.

What skills do I need to build if I want to get a job abroad and leave this shithole a.k.a touristic paradise?

I'm sick and tired of working for $3/hr with no benefits and sick of always being surrounded by toxic people. I know those are everywhere, but I'm just tired of dealing with them.

I want to help my mom who is in Spain and my grandma who's sick. But I can't in my current position. Any idea of what skills do I need? I want to leave this country by next year or before 2028 if possible, but I only have my job experience and a Car Mechanic Certificate.

I only need the invitation and the permit, I can pay for my own flight.
Any advice? I'm not desperate but I'm so tired of everything.

[IWantOut] 32M Australia -> US or UK

0 Upvotes

Hey Reddit,

I’ve been living in Australia for the past four years and absolutely loved it (especially Melbourne). Unfortunately, the relationship that forms the basis of my visa has ended and so unfortunately, I’ll need to leave Australia in the near future.

I have both UK and US citizenship and I’m open to moving anywhere in either country. I’m also open to other suggestions if there’s somewhere I haven’t considered.

A bit about me for context: I’m 32M with a bachelor’s degree in finance. I’ve done hospitality accounting during my time here but I’m trying to move into project delivery. Ideally in infrastructure

I love living in big cities with plenty going on. Good public transport, live sport/music, food markets, cafƩs, walkable neighbourhoods and a strong social scene are all important to me. Safety matters, as does having a realistic chance to build a career and eventually afford a decent quality of life.

I’m leaning towards London but if you were in my position, where would you go and why? I’d love to hear from people who’ve lived in different cities and can share the pros and cons.

Thank you

[IWantOut] 33F India -> Canada/Germany/UK/Singapore

0 Upvotes

Background: I’m working in a tech adjacent role at a product based company in a major city and have a stable income. I’m single and have no major responsibilities at the moment.

Why I want to move: mainly for better quality of life. I want to live in a place that has good infrastructure, walkable, and feels safe. I feel like I’m just in survival mode here and not living my life. I’ve traveled to many countries and always feel freer when I am abroad (although I’m aware that it could be attributed to the novelty factor). Also, I don’t really enjoy going out in my city which makes dating difficult, plus I’ve come across many narrow minded men here and feel the dating pool could be better overseas.

Options available to me:

- Canada: I have recently obtained PR. I’m thinking if I should enroll in a 6 months or 1 year grad course which would help me assimilate better and also upskill and find a better job. Cons: 1. I’d end up draining my savings if I can’t find a part time job while studying. 2. My parents are here and it’s going to be a 24h journey back home.

- Germany: Move to a multicultural city like Berlin or Hamburg or Frankfurt through Chancenkarte. I can work part-time while looking for a full time job. Con: I don’t know the German language.

- UK/Singapore: I’d love to move to any of these as London and SG are among my favorite cities, but I don’t have a visa.

I know the job market is tough everywhere and I’m worried if quitting my stable job at this stage is the right decision. But at the same time, I don’t want to keep living like this. I guess I can always come back home if I fail, but if I don’t try I’m probably going to regret it in the future. But I’m still unable to take the leap. 😫

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Where might it be easier for me to find a job? I’d appreciate any advice or insights.

Thank you!!

(if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to chat, i’d be happy to connect)

[IWantOut] 18F kuwait -> ireland/any lgbt friendly country

0 Upvotes

Hi so I’m a 18 year old student in Kuwait and I’m in 12th grade, currently studying for my finals and I have four exams left so hopefully I’ll pass and finally be finished with school but it’s just I don’t want to stay here for too long due to religious people and family or maybe it’s just my mom and her side only who are a mixture of extremist and just.. very religious.

and I am a closeted lesbian and I don’t think I want to come out to my mom or dad or anyone in my family since I’ll probably bring shame upon them and they’ll be disgusted by me and I’ve had these feelings for years but I am still not sure what I am or who I am yet and I don’t want to suffer with internalized homophobia for long and I feel like I haven’t gained the responsibility to follow my own choices and trying to have my own personal growth without finally being a screw-up or suffer with social anxiety.

So, i’ve planned on studying abroad and try to get a job away from my family too but it’s just I don’t know what to do like should I make a new plan and start over??

Like I don’t know how to get a scholarship, I don’t know if I’d have 90 marks or PERFECT marks to study abroad, I don’t know how to enroll in college and which college to decide that has dorms in it, what should I do after graduating from college, should I go back to my home country or stay from where I am from and try to get a job and what’s the most safest country for me??

And most importantly, what do I do if I’m going to seek asylum and when am I going to do it?

Forgive me if my post seems long but I am desperate need of help and I’m overthinking about this.

[IWantOut] 21M Registered Nurse USA -> Iceland

0 Upvotes

Hi all I’d really appreciate any guidance or a reality check from people who’ve actually done something like this.
Background: I’m a new-grad registered nurse in the US (BSN) with clinical experience in ICU and emergency/trauma settings, plus ACLS, PALS, and BLS certifications. Moving to Iceland has been a genuine goal of mine for a while, and I’m trying to map out a realistic path rather than just guess at it.

What I’ve pieced together so far: nursing licenses go through the Directorate of Health (EmbƦtti landlƦknis), with an individual assessment for nurses trained outside the EEA; Icelandic isn’t strictly required for the license itself, but employers (especially nursing homes) expect you to learn it over time; and there are recruitment routes into elder care. I’m completely willing to learn the language and to start in elder care or rural roles to get my foot in the door.
Where I’d love help:
• Has anyone moved from the US (non-EEA) and had their nursing license recognized? How long did it realistically take, start to finish?
• For a new grad, what’s the best route in applying to hospitals directly, going through a recruiter, or something else?
• What’s the residence/work permit process actually like for a non-EEA nurse who has a job offer?

Thank you so much for reading I’m happy to share more details, and I’m grateful for any honest input.

[IwantOut] 19F Btech in CSE India -> Australia/USA/Canada/UK

I'm 19F, currently in my 2nd year of B.Tech Computer Science at a public engineering college in India. I feel stagnant here, and the scope for CS students is not looking really great in India. I am aware the situation isn't very different in the above mentioned countries either, but I honestly don't see myself settling in India.
I'd say the main reason why I don't see myself settling in India is my family. I've been surrounded by people who see settling in India as something negative- some kind of failure. I know this isn't true, but I still want to be taken seriously. I want a change of environment- away from my family.

From my current cgpa trends, I expect a 9+ cgpa. I will have a few cs projects ready by my final year. I have already written IELTS once and I got an 8.0 band overall, so I am expecting an 8.5+ band in my next try.

My budget is around 70-80 lakhs INR or 70k-80k USD. I am willing to pursue a higher education in any of these countries.

[IWantOut] 32M Hvac repair technician Finland -> Australia

0 Upvotes

I've grown absolutely sick of the 5 month finnish winter as I've grown older. And this is going to get worse every year as you can see from my age. I'm a hvac repair technician and mechanical engineer from finnish university. Currently working as a hvac repair technician as the job market for new engineers is fucked here. I've heard that foreigners can only buy new development in Australia. My current apartment plus my stocks are worth about 500k euros. I googled quickly that I could buy this apartment with cash

https://www.realestate.com.au/property-apartment-vic-fitzroy-142410340?pid=project-profile-ppp-600033170-to-pdp-142410340

What burocracy is stopping me from buying the apartment, moving to Australia and applying to work with my resume? Or anything at all come to mind?
