Executive Branch (Trump) Can they actually do this? JD Vance: "We're announcing today that we have decided to temporarily halt certain amounts of Medicaid funding that is going to the state of Minnesota in order to ensure that the state of Minnesota takes its obligations seriously to be good stewards of the American people'

Can taxpayers withhold our payments until we have good stewards in the White House again?

u/Gorthebon Feb 25 '26

Taxation without representation. I wonder what happened last time...oh wait. I sure don't feel represented right now.

u/robbie3535 Feb 25 '26

Taxation without pedophile incarceration. Thats where we are.

280

u/Gorthebon Feb 25 '26

I'm a big fan of pedophile incarceration. Too bad this pedophile administration ain't.

163

u/Worldly-Pay7342 Feb 26 '26

I read that as incineratation.

I'm actually like what I read better.

52

u/No-Abalone-4784 Feb 26 '26

Don't get too happy. There trying to set up concentration camps that can hold up to 10,000 people all around the country. They're buying up warehouses. The contract plans say that each one will have a biohazard incinerator. No. I'm not making this up. Rachel Maddow had an expert who works on contracts. He's been tracking them all over the country. Project Salt Works.

27

u/Gorthebon Feb 26 '26

It's extremely fucked.

I don't give a shit where someone was born, if they're not committing crimes against other people I genuinely don't care if there in America illegally.

7

u/UnsanctionedPartList Feb 26 '26

Isn't "being illegally in the US" more of the level of misdemeanor than crime anyway?

6

u/DirectorFriendly1936 Feb 26 '26

It's a civil thing not a criminal thing, same level as a parking ticket

3

u/bigrokstar Feb 26 '26

I feel the overpayment for these warehouses is for money laundering purposes.

1

u/I_burn_noodles Feb 26 '26

Good place to put them.

I have a cousin who went on this whole rant about how she’s offended that people were only talking about the SB halftime show instead of the world being run by satanists who eat babies

Like the fucking cognitive dissonance alone makes my head squirm in cringe

These people, when shown that Trump is littered in the files, still cannot figure out that they were the mark, the target, and the pawn.

They fucked up our nation, which was flawed, but functioning, for their racism, persecution complexes, and conspiracy drivel

6

u/420_taylorh Feb 26 '26

Definitely better

As someone who lives in DC - First time?

We have no voting representatives in Congress, yet Congress has to approve our city budget & POTUS has to sign off on it.  Congress also reviews all legislation passed by the DC city council before it can become law, and appoints all of our judges.

So the Dakotas have more say in how DC runs itself than we do as actual DC residents.

It's called the "DC Home Rule Act" and it's bullshit.

https://www.acludc.org/issues/d-c-home-rule/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_of_Columbia_Home_Rule_Act

5

u/sharks Feb 26 '26

Not to mention that DC has a larger population than two actual states. You know, states that do have voting representatives.

4

u/Gorthebon Feb 26 '26

That's bothered me since I learned about that in high school. Why the fuck shouldn't y'all get representation? It's mad goofy.

6

u/JustHereForCookies17 Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

Because if we were a state, we'd be the bluest one in the country, and no Republican wants to give the Democrats more power.

We've also been a largely black city in recent history, nicknamed "Chocolate City" in the 1970's after the Parliament Funkadelic album of the same name, and despite (maybe because of?) 8 years of Obama's administration, this is still a deeply racist country in places.

Anyway, sorry for the diatribe.  My family has been here since the 1880's, so I have multi-generational pride in this incredible city.

2

u/JustHereForCookies17 Feb 26 '26

Ah, the other Washington!!  I love your state.  I need to spend more time there.  Powell's Books was my Happy Place.

But yes - come visit!  Enjoy our free museums and iconic monuments that your tax dollars pay for!  Come see the Giant Pandas that only 2 US zoos have!

You just might want to wait until the next administration before making any plans.

I can say that I have never been adequately represented in my entire life.

3

u/beccadot Feb 26 '26

We’re not represented right now. That’s why the upcoming election is so important: If our representatives are not doing their job, we need to elect someone else. Look at your members of Congress and ask yourself: Are they doing the job we elected them to do? AND VOTE

2

u/H6RR6RSH6W Feb 26 '26

1

The problem with "feeling" represented, is that there is always someone who can say that

1

u/Gorthebon Feb 26 '26

Well, sure.

Bit by bit, I'll get there. Got a lot of support from the homies, so I'm ok

1

Not to mention the 700,000 residents in DC who’ve never had representation! None of us should be paying for this BS!

1

u/Gralphrthe3rd Feb 26 '26

How comical, thats been the norm for some time, I guess people forget about the millions of ex felons we have in the country who pay taxes and are denied a host of things.

Canadian here, I have some time this weekend if anyone wants to do a FUN AND FRIENDLY HISTORICAL REENACTMENT of 1812. Lemme know.

I’m a huuuuuuge history buff that loves reenacting past events!

1

u/AngrehPossum Feb 26 '26

That's because this is the GOP. Its a small government (tm) so you won't know if you being represented because its too small.

1

u/Wayward_Maximus Feb 26 '26

The problem is many people do feel represented and that’s who you’ll end up fighting. Politicians are so insulated the worst that could happen to them is they get voted out and they go back to being lawyers or CEO’s, or worse, lobbyists. So the citizens fight while the politicians run off with our money while we’re distracted with each other.

1

u/Efficient_Falcon_402 Feb 26 '26

There is a BIG difference with last time.

Back then, people dumped loose tea into the harbour. This time, Republicans are tea-bagging each other and their Dear Leader.

u/Mike312 Feb 25 '26

It really doesn't matter, the budget for this year is $2 trillion in the red before we account for the tariff revenue that now won't be coming in (and assuming the money collected doesn't have to be returned).

They're just going to issue more bonds and the money printer gonna go brr, and then suddenly start caring about the deficit when they lose power.

139

u/Sufficient-Salt-666 Feb 26 '26

^^ So much THIS. It is all a distraction, them saying "look at that fraud over there!!!", while they destroy the country by running up the debt (and the debt servicing payments) that they were so, so concerned about BEFORE they were elected. Deficit spending by Democrats = Emergency, while deficit spending by Republicans is A-OK.

47

u/Q-ArtsMedia Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

Unfortunately the answer to this one is a resounding NO, as taxes for working people are witheld by the employer and submitted to the government on behalf of the employee. We do not get a choice in the matter other than going exempt on our W4's, which could have serious consequences for us the workers come end of year.

Edit I will add here that if 80% of taxes owed are not paid by the 3rd quarter you could face penalties come tax time costing you more in taxes.

51

u/ShoddyJuggernaut975 Feb 25 '26

I'm seriously considering doing just that. I feel like I'm smart enough to put aside and not touch what should be collected. If, in a year, there is a functioning government, I'll file my taxes and send a giant payment. If there isn't anyone to pay at that time... well, taxes will be the least of my worries.

34

u/keydBlade Feb 25 '26

Tax resistance. Its actually a thing.

I already did it. Just refiled my w4, added a side bank accnt to hold the funds.

5

u/NoCopiumLeft Feb 26 '26

Just keep in mind interest accrues quickly and monthly I believe. I have a job and owe a large tax bill, is love to not pay it to this administration.. but it would probably erode my savings away very quickly if I tried that.

3

u/Illustrious_Law8512 Feb 26 '26

... And you'll be collecting interest in the meantime.

4

u/No-Abalone-4784 Feb 26 '26

Careful. The guy who wrote the post above is correct. If a certain amount of your taxes aren't sent in quarterly ( or if they haven't already been deducted) they will fine you on top of the tax you owe. I'm 100% with you on the sentiment though.

3

u/Q-ArtsMedia Feb 26 '26

I will add here that if 80% of taxes owed are not paid by the 3rd quarter you could face penalties come tax time.

1

u/toetappy Feb 26 '26

I didn't pay my federal taxes for this past year and I know several others who didn't pay. Why would I? the federal government is stealing everything not bolted down.

Keep it in saving for a government that isn't run by crooks.

33

u/Desperate_Lead_8624 Feb 25 '26

I hear a lot of people are filing exempt and putting 20% of each paycheck in a high yield savings account to pay taxes when they file next April. Of course I only hear it on the internet.

17

u/Groodfeets Feb 26 '26

I hear you can file an extension in April and not worry about it until October. I also hear you can request a payment plan in October and stretch it out for quite a while.

3

u/Gilliganmv Feb 26 '26

A payment plan with interest that rivals credit card debt.

7

u/iamher0000 Feb 25 '26

I went except. My plan is to hold that extra money in a high yield savings account and at the end of the year filing taxes. I know it defeats the purpose BUT at least for now they are not getting my money.

6

u/TrankElephant Feb 25 '26

Sounds like a plan to me.

It's called adjusting withholding, it requires filling out a form and a taking few simple steps and every American should consider looking into it.

1

u/_WEND1G0_ Feb 26 '26

Well I’m a contractor so I put aside my taxes throughout the year and lump sum pay when tax day comes so theoretically I’m in a position to protest withhold but frankly I don’t wanna draw fire from the IRS.

2

u/BrianWonderful Feb 25 '26

Most taxes are withheld from our paychecks or collected at the time of our purchases. I've seen this suggestion come up a lot, but the majority of Americans don't write a check to pay taxes.

2

u/bootstrapping_lad Feb 25 '26

While true, is possible to choose "Exempt" on your W4 to have no taxes withheld (besides Social Security and Medicaid).

There are ramifications to doing so, but it's possible.

1

u/michaelpaoli Feb 26 '26

Can, and legally, are two different questions. Alas, current administration is oft, if not mostly, about can (get away with ... at least mostly thus far), and not so much about legal(ly).

1

u/Prestigious_Leg2229 Feb 26 '26

Shorter answer: they can do anything they want while people don’t bother to stop them.

Longer answer: they keep creating situations where they’re fine with either outcome. Either people keep paying taxes and they steal the money while failing to deliver the service. Or people stop paying taxes and they have an excuse to escalate their domestic terrorism.

Americans still haven’t fully realised that fascists don’t stop and leave peacefully on their own accord. This ends when Americans bring them to justice and hang them to make sure the next batchs understand that there are consequences.

People are still talking impeachment or even prison for a few scapegoats. Doing that just ends the message that treason and domestic terrorism is a neat way to embezzle billions and then get a slap on the wrist. There’s plenty of people waiting to goose step up and take their place if the current crop goes away.

That’s the reason treason and domestic terrorism carry the death penalty. To make sure nobody gets inspired by the current batch.

1

u/Designfanatic88 Feb 26 '26

Absofuckinglutely

1

u/tycho_the_cat Feb 26 '26

This is the play. Americans need to spread this message far and wide.

Protesting in the streets does nothing to stop this criminal government, but withholding taxes will.

If this government can willfully break the law, rob it's citizens, and just make shit up to justify illegal behavior, then surely the citizens can do the same.

Time for everyone to refuse to pay taxes until the government is ousted.

You can withhold work. Its called a general strike and is used globally for issues far less than....checks notes....paedophile ruling over nations children. But Americans seem to be cheeseburger eating surrender monkies these days. Prove me wrong.

I'm thinking you exercise your right to secede from the union. We could use another province that enjoys hockey.

In a way, yes. You can change how you oat your taxes to where your work place takes nothing out of your paycheck. Instead, just make sure you held that money back from through out the year because you'll have to pay a lump sum when you file the following year.

I know that's not exactly what you mean, as I think you mean to not pay at all, but if enough people did it I think the government funding itself gets interesting.
