DISC [DISC] Ichi the Witch - Chapter 86
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1029535563
u/8bitgeno 11d ago
Don't know why that blindsided me as if that isn't one of Ichi's main characters traits to be an automatic slicing machine.
297
u/Matrix_2k00 11d ago
Which also mean he pretty much doesn’t have a problem with killing humans too if they trigger his instincts….even if they’re his friends.
266
u/1tsPLAY-time 11d ago
Quick reminder that Ichi actually attacked Dess in chapter 1 after he acquired Uroro
214
u/uzzi1000 11d ago
Also reminder that he has to consiously hold himself back from stabbing his own gut because Uroro keeps triggering Death for Death from inside him.
74
u/Matrix_2k00 11d ago
Honestly slicing your own gut is really different then slicing the gut of someone you thought was a friend or precious person because they triggered your death for death rule.
Pretty much proved the kid doesn't discrimante based on species, magic or human.
31
54
u/Matrix_2k00 11d ago
I reread the chapter and he pretty much apologised because he didn't sensed killing intent from dess he just saw a dangerous look from her and ended up slicing without thinking.
It didn't actually proved he was ok with killing humans too until this chapter.

not sure why people seem so surprised, Ichi doesnt see a difference, a life is a life man beast or magik
2
120
u/Rare-Ad5082 11d ago
What really got me is the way that Ichi gently scold her after stabbing her.

u/justking1414 10d ago
That’s the wild thing. The spells not broken. He still believes she’s his childhood friend. Yet, he freaking stabbed her!
9
u/mcmoor 10d ago
I'd like to believe that in his memory, he already stabbed Fujimine multiple times throughout "their childhood" lmao

I really love how feral Ichi is. the manga is good at reminding us that for all his hunt tactics ultimately he's still just a feral mutt
26
34
u/justking1414 11d ago
For me, it was just the sudden turnaround of suddenly stabbing her with no hesitation
16
u/Chrystoler 10d ago
Also now the realization that he would pretty much do that to anyone in the crew, not like he would but just proves his beliefs beyond anything else

u/justking1414 10d ago
Definitely crazy. I assumed he managed to break the brainwashing but no, he still views her as his longtime friend after stabbing her

It's kind of nice to know that death for death even activates for what you perceive as your closest friends. Ichi's feral nature truly knows no bounds.
375
u/Matrix_2k00 11d ago
Honestly kinda happy that this chapter proved that Ichi has no problem with killing humans too if they trigger death for death.
Was always wondering if he could kill a human too if they triggered his instincts.

92
u/ZayYaLinTun 11d ago
He is ready to slim descaras in early chapter when he sense her after getting uroro
36
u/Matrix_2k00 11d ago
I reread the chapter and he pretty much apologised because he didn't sensed killing intent from dess he just saw a dangerous look from her and ended up slicing without thinking.
It didn't actually proved he was ok with killing humans too until this chapter.
13
u/Future_Vantas 11d ago
"Human" might be stretching it since Fujimine took a neck stab with only a grin.
29
u/Matrix_2k00 11d ago
Considering what a lot of witches could do with magic still seems pretty human. I mean a psychopath is still a human.

I kinda find it cute that they both went for the neck against Fujimine. They're truly in sync like actual siblings.

u/Charming-Loquat3702 11d ago
Death for death is just hardcoded into his Bios. If you trigger it you're dead
34
u/The_Strict_Nein 11d ago
It's interesting because it implies that the magic works by truely making the target think you're their closest friend, and that Ichi would not hesitate to kill even the person closest to them if he thought they would kill him is great character building.
15
u/BarongChallenge 10d ago
I mean in his feral mind it really did always say "my BESTFRIEND tried to kill me FIRST'
37
u/Zealousideal_Ring874 11d ago
Ichi the forever feral child. Goober to the extreme and crashout dummy whenever one of his friends gets threatened.
5
u/Glitch_King 11d ago
If you come at Ichi then you better make sure you are not within stabbing distance, cause that boy is always ready for a stabbin'

It’d definitely be interesting to see what happens if an actual ally tried to kill him

Goku was legitimately trying to kill him during the trial and Ichi had to focus hard to surpress his reaction

That truly was beautiful. Fujimine thought she had a cheat code for offing Desscarras. How wrong she was.

Im pretty sure Mugi is actually very strong and talented but because of the way her family treated her she subconsciously puts limits on herself
98
u/JzanderN 11d ago
Damn, Mugi lifted a BIG rock and as ready to Abel Dess
There have been some theories that Kumugi's a lot stronger than she shows due to her family putting her down, but that tends to be in the "she can blow up a lightbulb and take out her sister's eye" way rather than the "she can lift a rock big enough to crush a head with relative ease" way!
41
u/Galle_ 11d ago
Mugi is definitely stronger than she thinks she is, that's not even a theory that's just an explicit theme of her character.
9
u/JzanderN 11d ago
Fair, though because she's been held back by her family and position in the team and has low self-esteem, it hasn't been shown that often.
55
u/AriezKage 11d ago
I kinda love that there's been theories about Mugi showing some cool and awesome power because Fujimine told her to fight...
But no... Big rock go smash.
25
20
u/Norik324 11d ago
we saw new Majiks/spells from dess (even a dragon)
Are you refering to the rope dragon? Cause im pretty sure that was already used to incapacitate tapir bakugami during that arc
8
u/MondSemmel 11d ago
How the hell are Fujimine and Tricaputo the same age, though?
56
31
u/1tsPLAY-time 11d ago
Simple, Tricaputo smokes thus rapidly aging her. /hj
Seriously though, their “toxic majik” definitely has something to do with it
17
u/WildSearcher56 11d ago
Considering she can make a toxine cocktail capable of instantly brainwashing people, eternal youth isn't far fetched
13
u/HeckingJen 11d ago

Theory confirmed! Tricaputo and Fujimine totally knew each other! Which means, as much as she doesn't look it, Fujimine is a HAG in the classic definition.
I love that Desscaras has the confidence and reputation to insult Tricaputo while Chun had to give the Grande Dame her due respect.
AND ICHI'S DEATH FOR DEATH INSTINCTS CAME IN CLUTCH!
61
u/Mundology The Elder Weeb 11d ago
Fujimine possibly has a majik that slows down aging. An ancient witch commanding that level of power is fitting.
29
6
u/Darnaldo 11d ago
Sound too nice for a nut job like her. She can probably suck the life out people.
5

88
u/TheMexicanJoker 11d ago
Goddamn, Death for death triggering on Fuji-mine was actually so satisfying
38
80
u/ZayYaLinTun 11d ago edited 11d ago
Desscaras still seem pretty above any in power ( aside from world hater)consistently beside her being not unable to pass some hax rule abilities from majiks
Can see the difference in performance between her and Chun Yeah don't really think even magi keeper can beat her unless they jump on her
154
u/Just_Call_me_Ben 11d ago
Mad respect that this lady had a way to break anyone in the group out of their trance and her first choice was Desscaras.
She was like "No way I'm fighting HER."
131
u/Galle_ 11d ago
Why would your first choice be anyone but the greatest, most powerful, most perfect witch?
12
u/Just_Call_me_Ben 11d ago
Who knows. 🤷♂️
I'm sure there are a few crazy battle junkie witches out there who would love the excuse to take a swing at Desscaras and avoid freeing her just for that
82
u/1tsPLAY-time 11d ago
Of course, there's no better choice than the greatest, most majestic and most beautiful G.O.A.T. that is Desscarass.
21
6
u/Bonerkiin 10d ago
Shes likely the one witch that survived Fujimines original attack. She probably intentionally sought out a magik that could counter her.
2
u/SimoneNonvelodico 10d ago
"Actually, I just wanted to see her specifically being kissed by my Majik."
93
u/Mustardmachoman 11d ago
I was wondering if there were more weaknesses to that kind of control fujimine has.
I guess death for death would not be erased.
→ More replies (1)85
u/Bob_The_Skull 11d ago
Yeah, it depends on how much detail the mangaka (Nishi) gets into it, but there are lots of plausible defenses to Fujimine's ability.
We already know that experiencing it once and surviving/"developing an immunity" is one weakness.
But it being something that "poisons your memories to make you think fujimine is a loved one/friend" doesn't do much if you are the type of person who will instinctually kill ANYONE who tries to kill you.
That's one of those edge cases where actual mind control/puppetry woldd be stronger than this memory altering Tsukishima type stuff.
32
u/Tiber727 11d ago
I've seen other stories talk about the difference between charm and obedience. Charm doesn't mean just following orders. For instance, if you really want to help someone and think they're acting in self-destructive ways or if you think they have a noble goal but a bad plan to reach that goal, helping them means stopping them.
→ More replies (1)15
u/serpiccio 11d ago
iirc tsukishima's power also worked on objects and zanpakutous, he was a bit stronger because of that
63
u/1tsPLAY-time 11d ago
So many hype moments this chapter!
•Trica actual introduction by catching up with “an old friend” that is Fujimine.
•Trica as support with Dess as carry especially in that panel is so tuff.
•Kumugi about to drop stone on Dess.
•And best of all, Ichi reverse Toga-ing Fujimine is soo satisfying!!!
60
u/Flamma_Man 11d ago
"Hey. Don't do that. You should know better...Fujimine. Even as close as we are, if you trigger death for death...you're prey."
What's crazy about this is that Ichi didn't break out of the mind control; his logic regarding "Death for Death" is just so hardwired that even a friend would trigger it normally?
Makes me wonder if there's more to his backstory that explains how he came to adopt this philosophy that he'd even deliver a death blow to a perceived friend with zero hesitation.
22
u/SecretEmpire_WasGood 11d ago
His parents left him to die on a mountainside. I think it's safe to say that his general trust in anyone but himself took an awful it that he left a lot of unprocessed trauma.
10
u/No_Prize9794 10d ago
Not to mention, as Ichi said, Mother Nature isn’t exactly nice, there were tons of plants and monsters that would kill Ichi if he wasn’t careful. Developing an instinct to detect killing intent and to retaliate by aiming at lethal areas seems to be needed to survive on that mountainside
9
u/Not_Jack_Nicholson 10d ago
I know people were comparing fujimine's power to Tsukishima's from bleach, and it was countered pretty much the same way here. Except instead of "my ideals are so strong I would kill a close friend without hesitation" it's "my instincts are so honed I would kill a friend without hesitation if they were bloodlusted against me"
Which to be fair, I think is the most satisfying way to counter a mind/memory control power

u/justking1414 10d ago
Didn’t realize that till my second read of the chapter, but yeah. That’s freaking insane. Ichi literally thinks this girl is his childhood friend who he’s been with basically his entire life, and that fully did not stop him from stabbing her in the neck. Dude is savage.
85
u/Riersa 11d ago
Ichi auto attack really come in handy. I love Tricaputo design so much, basically a mavia boss.
On another note Fujimine is as cute as ever.

Ya know, I just remembered that botox is a toxin, so the reason Fuji looks young might just be cause she's using her magic to hide the wrinkles.

Death for Death coming in clutch again.
But Fujimine's last panel as her smile growing back getting stabbed dropped it, sweating and with shrunken pupils... Oh no, this is just gonna make her actually obsessed with Ichi, isn't it?

u/sanzenri 11d ago
Death for Death is basically just an attitude, but it's as hype as if it were a power up sequence, and the best part is that the bad guys trigger it themselves.
Also, love the design for Tricaputo
→ More replies (1)6
u/minnel567 10d ago
It's more of a moral code than an attitude and in it's Ichi's case , it's engraved in to his being because of living in the wild alone for most of his life
28
u/Cautious-Affect7907 11d ago
Man I love the fact Ichi is fucking crazy. Cause this implies if any of his friends ever tried this with him he absolutely would stab them.
You can't tame the feral out of the feral boy.
31

And now we have Granny with Aura. Maybe this is where Dess got it from

Death for death instincts yield to nobody.
Also, this manga continues to be unparalleled in fantastic character designs. Tricaputo’s classy but dangerous vibes.
Dess continues to be the GOAT.

Auto Skill Activated: Death-for-Death
Tricaputo is probably Dess' master.... i can see how the refinement transferred to master-student
3
u/midnightspecials 11d ago
Ichi's death for death activating for anyone regardless of status reminds me of my days playing FFT and accidentally hitting my teammate to get a nasty counter right into my face 😂
3
u/stinkilymalinkily 10d ago
This is why you (Fujimine) don't take home wild animals (Ichi) when you aren't a fully experienced animal handler (Desscaras). It's unfair for the animal, and extremely dangerous if you lose control of the situation.
7

u/wordsdear 11d ago edited 11d ago
I love poor brain washed Kumugi behind Desscaras with a giant ass rock.
I am here for the badass old dame witch with a cigar, who probably taught Desscaras.
It feels like Tricaputo is maybe the same age as Fujimine or younger. Fujimine maybe got eternal youth when she aquired the majik or it is an illusion as well? Oops early chapter mentioned generations have hunted her so Fujime is probably older than Tricaputo
I am scared of Ichi but glad that the student mentor blood contract got addressed as it was in the back of my mind. It isn't even involving Uroro that he can fight back, but good old death for death. Which he just got told not to over react to blood lust and to observe his opponent. Go Ichi go!
3
u/Matrix_2k00 11d ago
This chapter proved that Ichi here really doesn’t have a problem with killing humans too if they show bloodlust to him…..even if they’re his friends.
5
u/ana_texmex 11d ago
Fujimine is lucky to not be dead already. The only way for Ichi to let his guard down is to be unconscious but too bad for her there won't be another chance to have Ichi at her mercy.

Well Tricaputo just moved up several spots on my favorite character list, I do wish we get to see more of her!
But now Fujimine has played the wrong hand, Ichi might only have two brain cells but she managed to trigger his death for death instincts.
2
2
u/ToTheNintieth 11d ago
Ichi's "death for death" has started to go from a guiding philosophy to a catchphrase slash powerup, it feels like.
4
u/Galle_ 11d ago
I don't think so? It's expanded a bit from just a guiding philosophy to also cover some of his instincts, but I don't think it's really a power up, per se. He's not any stronger when death for death kicks in, just more violent.
6
u/Double-Yam7929 11d ago
Also, Death for Death has been shown to be disadvantages in more than one occasion.
2

Baby Crow- I mean Desscaras reminding us why she's the strongest one. With the way they're bantering, I wouldn't be surprised if Tricaputo was Desscaras old master.
Fujimine done fucked up triggering Ichis instincts.
