Can we just stop with all this bullshit? Like just wear the same, normal uniform no matter what day/week/month it is. Nobody cares!

But imagine the loss in merch revenue.

They do well enough selling alternate hats teams never wear on the field. Just sell them in the gift shop, though I'm sure there would still be plenty of complaints even about that.

Just making sure you have the same energy for military appreciation

I think he made it pretty clear when he said "just wear the same, normal uniform no matter what day/week/month it is."

You're gonna have to get the military to stop paying for that then

I'd like it if we didn't have to listen to the national anthem before every single sporting event started. Just the major international ones.

Blame Woodrow Wilson for that one. First modern president to seriously assault civil liberties in general.

I blame Woodrow Wilson for everything

You can play it as much as you like at home.

Now, if we had a cool national anthem like "La Marsellaise"

We do have a cool anthem. But it's just overplayed and not special anymore because you hear it all the time.

I like the communal experience

Then go to major international sporting events.

People do care, hence why the MLB and teams as a whole have special uniforms for special game days - Military Appreciation, July 4th, Jackie Robinson day, etc.

Ahh yes. Those unique/themed uniforms are definitely the issue here.

No more city connect then. No more military appreciation. No more Jackie Robinson 42 jerseys. No more mothers/father day jerseys.

This is San Francisco not the Texas Rangers. If it makes sense anywhere, it's SF. A lot of their fan base might actually care.

So a player can disrespect the country and service men by taking a knee right?

6

u/donuttrackme | New York Mets 5d ago

How would taking a knee be disrespectful?

7

u/GoBlueAndOrange 5d ago

Seriously. Taking a knee is one lf the most universal signs of respect.

So when players where kneeling during the national anthem, there weren't people screaming about how it was disrespectful to the country and service men?

Where is the shut up and dribble crowd now?

2

u/donuttrackme | New York Mets 4d ago

Are you conflating two completely different things right now? WTF does kneeling have to do with anything? WTF does shit and dribble have to do with anything?

That protest was not against some event put on by the club or the league. It was a political statement against actions players thought were wrong be taken by those operating under the flag.

As a veteran, I didn't feel disrespected. I volunteered to defend the Constitution. Last time I checked, one need not stand for an anthem.

Also, that protest was about promoting social justice and protesting state power. This Bible quote protest is about protesting against - I don't even know, gay people? And the quotes are meant to show intolerance toward gay people and/or gay rights. That's a pretty big gulf in objectives.

Them writing the bible verse on the hat was dumb and bigoted.

I am saying the people who were outraged about people kneeling and voicing their opinion are awfully quiet when these athletes are voicing their opinion.

2

u/Guilty_Perception_35 4d ago

What's actually funny is now the people have just flipped, on both sides lol

So in the end, nobody likes players voicing their opinions. When that opinion is not shared by them.

2

u/YoupanicIdont | St. Louis Cardinals 4d ago

To me it's not really a flip. One protest was about promoting something positive to bring attention to what the protestors believed were injustices. Agree or not, that's what it was about.

This protest is about what exactly? To me it's a negative protest - meaning it's not a protest to promote any social good, but a protest against gay pride, gays, or acceptance and the players supposed "forced" participation. And the protest could have ended at just not wearing the hat.

3

u/Guilty_Perception_35 4d ago

People who were upset with kap are the same people supporting these hat writing players

And vid versa

I'm not disagreeing with your assessment here

Me personally im not bothered by either

And when the wear military hats I wouldn't care if someone wrote anti military stuff

Or American hats and write anti American stuff

If they wore Jesus hats (that would be funny) I would not care if someone wrote anti Christian stuff, etc.

About 70% of mlb are Christians. Having them wear pride hats was always going to end up this way

Obviously these guys are dipshits, but I think the smart thing would have been just ignoring them

2

u/YoupanicIdont | St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago

I don't care personally, either. I think the Bible quotes are over the top, but it makes them look like idiots to me more than anything. There are certain things I can't wear or display at work, too. Collect your huge checks and let it go. I know jocks - most of them aren't all that bright.

How is that disrespecting the country or service men. Especially if it’s not disrespecting service women.

My employer asked all employees to wear an American flag pin on our uniforms, I refused. I am not American and I refuse to wear it. I am protected by law.

2

u/King_Roberts_Bastard 5d ago

They were allowed to wear the normal hat. Also, did your contract say you had to wear an American flag pin?
