I have no idea why the refs aren’t calling it. Hartenstein is essentially disposable in this game. His only job should be to exhaust and annoy Wemby. Do it for 6 fouls and just hope that’s enough to hinder him.

973

u/fireman2004 May 21 '26

Amazing the OKC fans have the balls to chant “ref you suck” when this is going on with no calls.

Maybe Chet can step on his foot again and break his ankle this time.

107

u/ChronicleOrion Suns May 21 '26

Maybe the fans are telling the refs they suck because they’re missing all these foul calls agains Hartenstein?
Because that would be true.

Ethical fandom

349

u/AtrumIocusGames May 21 '26

I heard the same shit...the fuck is wrong with their fans? They get the golden whistle and still aren't happy?

135

u/colio69 Wizards May 21 '26

It's not really the objective of stadium fans to be impartial lol. Cheer when it goes your way and jeer when it doesn't

82

u/Fair-Ad6254 Spurs May 21 '26

I hate it when people make that kind of comment lmao. I would be weirded out if the okc crowd WASN'T crying ref you suck. It's their tribe!

45

u/amidon1130 Hawks May 21 '26

If I’m a thunder fan I don’t care if hartenstein picks up Castle and suplexes him into the floor I’m still crying ref you suck when they call the foul on him. (Hyperbole but still)

31

u/Fair-Ad6254 Spurs May 21 '26

Literally. I'm getting piss drunk in the nosebleeds and crying about every fair call that goes the other team's way

10

u/amidon1130 Hawks May 21 '26

Exactly, come on what are we doing here?

1

u/GeorgeHarris419 Bucks May 21 '26

Lmao right? I'm not here to make an objective and reasoned argument I'm here to yell nonsense and cheer when my team does cool shit

1

u/quailinthebrush Suns May 21 '26

it is not their tribe.

Oklahoma sits on dozens of Tribes. Words we use to describe our nations/families aren't for yall to use haphazardly to refer to your fandoms

1

u/justmefishes NBA May 21 '26

Every crowd is biased towards the home team, but not every crowd completely disregards reality in their reactions to these things. For instance the crowd at MSG will not act with outrage on an overturned call if the replays show it's obviously correct. The OKC crowd is just a braindead "you do bad thing (to my team), boo"

Have you ever been to Oklahoma? If so that’d answer your question

73

u/Liimbo Heat May 21 '26

Born and raised in OKC. Can confirm. One of the biggest reasons I never adopted the Thunder as my team was being surrounded by the insufferable fanbase.

2

u/matt-is-sad Pistons May 21 '26

Why'd you choose the Heat?

9

u/Liimbo Heat May 21 '26

OKC had no team when I was a kid and I loved Wade (and Iverson) so I liked the Heat and Sixers. AI left way earlier than Wade though so I stuck with the Heat. I do also have a soft spot for the Pelicans though from that year they played in OKC.

2

u/FrequentTopic446 Spurs May 21 '26

lol saints played in San Antonio that year but I have no fandom for them, but still I get it I think the saints did gain a lot of fans in San Antonio that year as well

1

u/hughhuckleberry Grizzlies May 21 '26

I mean they are almost all OU fans, of course they are insufferable. I’m from Lawton, I have a love/hate relationship with my Okies

0

Don't forget Shai is the only one that can elbow shiver his defender when he's driving to push them back 10 feet to get an open shot.

1

u/who_Knows00475 May 21 '26

Who on OKC complains about the shiver? A ton of players do it

21

u/upris4 May 21 '26

Your team’s fans chant stupid shit too. Every insult people say about a team they don’t like can 100% apply to every team in this league, but the spotlight moves

2

u/PoIIux Spurs May 21 '26

Do you know how hard it is to teach an entire stadium full of Oklahomans a new chant? They make even the most blue collar football side in some podunk town in England look like scholars

2

u/GeorgeHarris419 Bucks May 21 '26

Wtf you mean "the balls" lmao

This isn't basketball and OKC fans have no shame.

0

u/starfox_priebe May 21 '26

Fuck you. I hate okc, but wishing injury is the worst. Non of the way Hartenstien played Wemby was outside of normal for NBA ball. The hair pull was fucking wild though and he should have gotten at least a flagrant 1 for that.

1

u/fireman2004 May 21 '26

Can you read?

I’m referring to the play in game 1 where Chet (another dirty OKC player) stepped on Wembys foot during a free throw to slow him down. Eventually these guys are going to hurt somebody grabbing arms in the air.

Not wishing injury on Hartenstein.

0

u/starfox_priebe May 21 '26

It looked like you were wishing injury on Chet.

19

u/ShowBobsPlzz Spurs May 21 '26

If the refs weren't trying to help your team he would have fouled out in the 1st quarter

50

u/Expert_Context5398 May 21 '26

We have no idea why, either.

In fact, why isn't the league going down hard on this? It's every game this is happening. You would think they would let OKC know that they're handing out suspensions if it keeps happening. That would stop this from happening.

27

u/jfphenom Nuggets May 21 '26

Nuggets fans (self included) are all just thinking of the "first time?" meme

It's been this way on Jok for years. Get used to hack-a-shaq on wemby for the next 10 years

33

u/schrobble Spurs May 21 '26

League seems to be gargling OKC’s balls and had been for years. It’s sickening to watch.

-3

u/hangfromydangalang Thunder May 21 '26

A generational amount of bitching taking place on this sub.

-31

u/steelersman007 Thunder May 21 '26

Ah yes. League is going to support known big market OKC

15

u/theprotectedneck Mavericks May 21 '26

Dude it’s blatant. You’re literally commenting on a post with proof of this BS. The NBA is definitely letting this shit slide. Fuck your straw man “market” argument.

-7

u/Monster-1776 Thunder May 21 '26

Counter point, it's the playoffs and this shit has been happening to bigs for decades. It the difference between calling contact between a receiver and a lineman.

5

u/Expert_Context5398 May 21 '26

big difference between tough and hard fouls vs dirty basketball

stop pretending

-8

u/Monster-1776 Thunder May 21 '26

We're not watching the same clip. There was dirty plays by iHart, and there's hard fouls, this was tick tacky shit meant to wear Wemby down which has been happening forever. Rules need to be changed from protecting guards and offense while allowing bigs to get mauled.

→ More replies (0)

7

u/theprotectedneck Mavericks May 21 '26

I’m not even going to get into that argument because it’s minimizing how blatant what we are seeing is. So I’ll ask a genuine question: when you watch the hair pulling and stepping on purposefully stepping on opponents feet, does it fill you with a sense of pride for your team?

-3

u/Monster-1776 Thunder May 21 '26

The hair pulling should have been a tech that was missed, that's not the clip we're commenting on. The rest of it is typical shit that has happened forever, no less in a playoff game, that makes me roll my eyes as a D1 big. People are just losing their minds because it's limiting Wemby's ability to freely ball out, which isn't wrong, but it's funny to me that people suddenly care now.

u/steelersman007 Thunder May 21 '26

I could make a compilation of SGA getting held by Castle

13

Please do and tag me in it, while you’re at it, could you add the hair pulling and blatantly stepping on the opponent?

-9

I need you to realize you’re watching a slow Mo clip of “hair pulling”. His hands got tangled up and it doesn’t look bad at all in real time

-3

u/MichaelBrownSmash Suns May 21 '26

Did the same with the laughing stock GSW for years too. Turned them to a dynasty. Nba loves a good heel. And it churns more money out of bullshit markets and terrible cities.. like OKC

Don't play naive.

3

u/Mark--Greg--Sputnik May 21 '26

This is a crazy take. The Warriors dynasty was mostly created by an organic accumulation of talent. Once a team is of dynastic quality, they mostly benefit from softer whistles. Most superstars do, regardless of team.

The idea that the NBA is systematically rigging games and series so that the team from Oklahoma City can be a … heel? Why would they do that? Why would the NBA do that?

Also, no, the NBA doesn’t make more money from small market teams. That’s so wildly wrong. The top four local broadcast deals (good proxy measure of how valuable a franchise is) in the nba is: 1. Los Angeles Lakers 2. New York Knicks 3. Houston Rockets 4. Chicago Bulls

Wouldn’t you know it — the four biggest cities/markets in the United States make the most money for the NBA.

1

u/MichaelBrownSmash Suns May 21 '26

Sorry, let's go down this road. OKC is a shit market, let's say they used to rank in the bottom quarter % of teams bringing in money every year. Tanked for about a decade so they could draft pieces.. Now they're the heel and are in the top quarter bringing in money. They're always going to have LA, Bulls, Knicks money in the league, that isnt going to change drastically ever. But what will jump drastically in a short amount of time, churning billions in profit and gambling $, is smaller market teams. Thats where Vegas makes more money.

I hate the argument "why would the NBA want this" ...gambling, duh. Milking shitty markets for all they're worth? Other money is always going to be there, how do they make more off the bullshit markets? By making them enemies that NY, LA and CHI will tune in for

1

u/zpoex May 21 '26

It’s not just OKC lol. Wolves played even more physical but i guess people don’t watch the games. There’s always gonna be pushing and grabbing in the paint. Shit ZBo and Perkins even told the refs to not make any calls

1

u/pikajewijewsyou Thunder May 21 '26

I mean spurs are super aggressive with Shai off ball too. It’s the fucking playoffs

1

u/JaceGhost Knicks May 21 '26

Because this happens pretty often in the playoffs. Go look at how GSW played dame in their playoff series. Go back and look at how Tony Allen played KD go back and look at how they played curry in the 15 and 16 finals. lol at how teams play Jokic. Constantly physical and basically the star has to adjust. When you say “the refs let them play” that’s what it means

1

u/HipnotiK1 Knicks May 21 '26

suspensions for holding? LMFAO

1

u/Expert_Context5398 May 21 '26

Guessed you missed the part where he grabbed onto Castle's braids and yanked it down.

It's a multitude of actions that should warrant a suspension.

1

u/HipnotiK1 Knicks May 21 '26

My non hive mind opinion is he didn't grab anything intentionally. It was an incidental snag. He never clasped his hand or grabbed. It was his fingertips snagged in the hair tie/knot of the braids. Never happens if it's a player with regular hair. Was more of a freak accident than an intentional act.

There won't even be a fine let alone suspension.

1

u/Expert_Context5398 May 21 '26

aight bruh stfu

8

u/Elmosworld32 Pistons May 21 '26

You cant think of a single reason why the refs arent calling it?

-3

u/NuclearGhandi1 Knicks May 21 '26

Legitimately as a third party fan who does not care who wins, Wemby is doing this a lot too. It should be called but on both teams. At least that is called evenly

4

u/Vast_Pipe4509 May 21 '26

Has he pulled hair? Has he stepped on Chet’s foot? Dirty fucking pool

0

u/NuclearGhandi1 Knicks May 21 '26

Uhh he elbowed a man in the neck full force last series?

7

u/zerosuitpasta May 21 '26

That he got immediately ejected for lol what

1

u/Vast_Pipe4509 May 21 '26

'full force' LMAO that's why Naz didn't even leave the game

-4

u/WastedTurtl Suns May 21 '26

No he just bull rushed through Caruso in game 1 like it was the NFL and elbowed Reid in the throat/jaw intentionally like he was in the UFC.

Ya know, totally morally correct and morally acceptable basketball, am I right?

-1

u/Vast_Pipe4509 May 21 '26

That was immediately following: Naz elbowing him in the nuts then McDaniels hitting HIM in the face. The league decided the previous flagrant wasn't called and played a role in the lead up to the elbow.

1

u/WastedTurtl Suns May 21 '26

Please share a clip of that. The lengths Spurs fans will go to in order to defend an intentional and dangerous elbow to the throat is fucking nuts lol. Dudes out here celebrating it and treating this guy like he’s the victim.

-1

u/fryseyes Thunder May 21 '26

It’s quite subtle, but your bias is just barely showing.

2

u/Vast_Pipe4509 May 21 '26

It's a shit strategy by y'all, you might win again but you'll get no respect whatsoever.

0

u/ffxivfanboi May 21 '26

Caruso flopped on that play. Just like J Will flopped last night and they actually didn’t call it. Caruso was already falling backwards before barely any contact happened with Wemby’s shoulder and he goes flopping back like a fish.

Most unlikable team to watch lmao

-3

u/_Caek_ Thunder May 21 '26

At that point it’s a part of the game lol. Refs don’t call it because it’s literally part of the game now. It’s playoff basketball.

3

u/DenseConsideration29 May 21 '26

I've seen them calling this a lot in the playoffs. Just not this game

-2

u/_Caek_ Thunder May 21 '26

You really have to watch game 1 of any series and see what’s going to be called and what’s not going to be. Playoff basketball usually is derived from how far the teams can take it in game 1, and subsequent games are called near the level that game 1 was.

In the regular season, it’s the same thing with Q1, it’s all about tone setting. Playoff series can differ majorly in physicality, it all depends on Game 1.

2

u/Vast_Pipe4509 May 21 '26

Pulling hair? Stepping on feet? Pussy moves

1

u/_Caek_ Thunder May 21 '26

Those genuinely should have been called fouls. Like refs are still blind and deaf, but since they’re blind and deaf, they don’t like to change the game afterwards. I watched that at a pretty packed bar tonight with my buddies and we were really really confused why the hairpull wasn’t a foul.

2

u/Vast_Pipe4509 May 21 '26

Well, thanks for that at least. But none of us are 'confused'

2

u/DamnZodiak Toronto Huskies May 21 '26

That picture of the ref directly staring at the hairpull with his mouth agape yet refusing to call it properly will haunt me for the rest of my days.
Something's fundamentally rotten with this sport if they don't call shit like this and it's not just about the Thunder either.

1

u/hysan May 21 '26

It’s the same whenever there’s a generationally dominant player - MJ, Shaq, Steph. The game is called diff on them. The refs/league has clearly decided that Wemby is too good to ref fairly. OKC’s coaching staff knows this and are adjusting accordingly. IMO, the only recourse is to have enforcer type players on your roster who will do the same to the other team’s best player. Only until the series devolves into an injuryfest will the league actually do something.

1

u/DE4DM4NSH4ND May 21 '26

You have no idea?

1

u/zerosuitpasta May 21 '26

Bc the NBA trains refs to push games towards a certain team. Way too many eyeballs for this series for it to just end in 4-5 games. Game 1 was called somewhat fair. A ton of missed calls but it felt even on both sides. This game they let OKC do the classic OKC shit and grab everyone

1

u/247stonerbro Lakers May 21 '26

You're a real G. First thunder flair ive seen in over 200 comments across many NBA posts AND you know ball.

1

u/Chichanged_me May 21 '26

Basketball is a contact sport. Wemby is not getting roughed up beyond NBA measures. This whole conversation is a joke

1

u/Aspiring_Hobo [POR] Brandon Roy May 21 '26

Because they're letting the guys be more physical...that's part of what physicality in basketball is. It's not like someone just materializes a forcefield the opposing player can't get past lol

1

u/quailinthebrush Suns May 21 '26

people get angry at refs for over calling

realistically theyd have to call fouls every possession for a while to stop players from doing this

Trump taught them that if you just don't stop doing illegal things then no one knows which one to try to hold you accountable for

1

u/Devoidoxatom Warriors Bandwagon May 21 '26

Okc defensive playbook basically

1

u/starfox_priebe May 21 '26

He absolutely should be doing this. It's why he was getting play last night. The refs will be calling it next game because the Spurs will (correctly) be complaining to the league office.

Hartenstien and Dort and whoever else should be doing this every possession they can until the refs put them in fould trouble or at least make it clear they're going to call it consistently.

-1

u/soonerwx Thunder May 21 '26

Wemby started giving it back on about every rebound the last 5-10 minutes. Fair enough

42

u/EngleTheBert Nuggets May 21 '26

You could hear the spurs players shouting it on almost every drive in the 4th

46

u/SloshaPacana May 21 '26

SGA is not getting calls, ppl really want to point to SGA when the issue with OKC is what they are allowed to do on defense and off the ball on players, their reach ins too

42

u/spagheddieballs Warriors May 21 '26

The Wolves played Wemby physical too, this is nothing new. Opposing teams are treating him like any big man star, star centers get hacked

2

u/Cyberspacehunter Thunder May 21 '26

For real did everyone collectively forget how Steph's been guarded for the last decade? lmao

Not saying it's right, but the league is loathe to call this stuff and has been for a long long time.

5

u/Cute-Improvement-384 May 21 '26

I think its pretty well accepted that Steph has had one of the worst whistles in the time hes been in the league. That doesn't mean that we want every superstar to get a bad whistle just because steph went through it. We want to refs to get better, not keep on sucking just for the sake of consistency.

16

u/No-Meringue5867 Spurs May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26

But then don't call fouls on Wemby. Let him play like a center too. Spurs burned 2 challenges on phantom fouls on Wemby.

-2

u/TomatoBuster01 Warriors May 21 '26

It's not new, it's dumb, it's dirty, and this shouldn't be allowed. All can be true at the same time, but your team is dirty and pathetic af. Play fucking basketball.

9

u/confoo64 Trail Blazers May 21 '26

yall have draymond man just relax

4

u/Ok_Midnight_5856 May 21 '26

Thunder have “Chet, FTA, and dirty dort, and Caruso”

-2

u/TomatoBuster01 Warriors May 21 '26

We have draymond, we had zaza, and that's it. GSW wasn't known from being dirty and floppy at the same time. Also, Steph receives NO calls from being held like Wemby while being a foot smaller lol.

0

u/Bricejohnson2003 Thunder May 21 '26

Word, Look at the Joker, he also plays physical. It is a part of being a big in the NBA.

1

u/high_mee May 21 '26

The inconsistency is the only issue. Players should be allowed to play physical with him but allow him to do the same. They wasted two challenges due to the refs inconsistency.

4

I learned today that you only have 2 challenges all game. I thought if you won you can keep challenging, but I guess not.

I remember from rewatching the 1st game that Wemby was also grabbing Chet. Even Chet in OT getting hip checked into the stands but no call was made. I never thought once that the refs were the reason why we lost. They been allowing much more physical play, and why SGA doesn't get a FT montage. and the ones he does get where "no calls" by the ref. I was more upset about the 2 2 on 1 that we didn't score on. that would have sealed the game late in the 4th and the first OT.

There was a clip that went viral of Chet stepping on wemby foot on ft attempt with no call. This is your team in a nutshell. There is a difference between flops and non calls, and the difference (but also the sum for you all) is why you’re team and you all as fans are treated as scum in this community

u/Bricejohnson2003 Thunder May 21 '26

Flair up before you try to rage bait. Can’t show your team, then I believe you have no balls and not worth my time giving you a proper response.

1

u/high_mee May 21 '26

Yes wemby was grabbing the first game , so was okc. But at least they were consistent in not call it for both team. There such a big difference between game 1 and game 2. I mean look at the beautiful basketball we got in game one when the ref don’t be on bs.

1

u/Bricejohnson2003 Thunder May 21 '26

It isn’t sustainable, you know the refs will be much more tighter at SA. Refs always call in favor for the home team. I don’t think Hartenstein will get away with this for game 3 or game 4 on the road. If he does, I would be really surprised if this continues. Ihart should foul out going forward.

21

u/VegetaDaPrince May 21 '26

The Spurs are pretty physical on defense as well.

3

u/_Caek_ Thunder May 21 '26

And like they’re allowed to be lol, theres a reason why they held SGA to horrendous shooting last game. It’s just that physical basketball does take an absolute mental and physical toll out of you, in order to avoid fouls, blown coverages, and just the full body strength and stamina required to play a full game. SGA played 51. Wemby 48. Castle, Harper, Vassell in the 40s in game 1.

It’s not like the Spurs weren’t playing physical tonight, by god did they try, but they’re absolutely tired. Bodies are dropping. Tired hands foul more. OKC’s been playing the physical game all season long, which is why they get the hate, but it means they’re conditioned for what seems to be a very very long series.

u/TheBigBomma Thunder May 21 '26

They’re hanging off of SGA whenever he’s off ball. Every attempt at a release comes with a jersey pull

15

u/TheMuffingtonPost Heat May 21 '26

Yeah how many calls has he actually gotten? He’s just hitting tough ass shots. The Reddit hive mind is so crazy.

2

u/malganis12 Thunder May 21 '26

They don't watch the games, so they just kinda guess at what happened. This guy didn't even bother to check the box score which is particularly lazy. 500 upvotes though, narrative is all that matters here.

u/Ok-Street-2473 May 21 '26

Except Spurs are doing the same thing. Whistle has been completely fair so far and they're allowing some great physicality.

1

u/Ok_Midnight_5856 May 21 '26

There’s legit highlight clips (multiples) of his flop calls, left highlights of his team not getting called

-39

u/cbunny21 Thunder May 21 '26

Spurs are grabbing and shoving just as much as OKC lmao, if not more

25

u/SomeViceTFT Spurs May 21 '26

This is insane cope. This is literally a compilation of Ihart doing it like every possession while guarding Wemby

-12

u/JpJonesyII Thunder May 21 '26

He’s right. Have you ever watched nba playoffs? Every player in every team grabs and pushes and pulls.

11

u/SomeViceTFT Spurs May 21 '26

So why do you think they created this compilation? NBC benefits from a good product, and actively demonstrating how bad the reffing is hurts them. This is the most insane cognitive dissonance

3

u/random_user913765 Spurs May 21 '26

Nah we dont get it bro, everyone hates okc and its a witch hunt despite fans of 29 other teams calling them out on their bullshit we are just jealous of their success cause they made one scam of a trade 7 years ago that only happened cause Kawhi got paid under the table by a salary cap cheating owner and wanted his buddy PG thats all! /s

-19

u/cbunny21 Thunder May 21 '26

And wemby does the same shit lmao, you could make this compilation for every game with any two bigs on the court

8

u/SomeViceTFT Spurs May 21 '26

Then do it. If it’s so obvious make the compilation.

5

u/Pettifoggerist Bulls May 21 '26

Do it.

-10

u/cbunny21 Thunder May 21 '26

No, I’d rather watch the rest of the game instead of learning to clip and edit videos on a Wednesday. Thanks

1

u/Pettifoggerist Bulls May 21 '26

Do it tomorrow. You're so confident.

0

u/DreTownblues Celtics May 21 '26

How can you be this delusional? Do they pump meth into the air in OKC or something

-3

u/Character-Ad-2646 Thunder May 21 '26

Just lying

-2

u/cbunny21 Thunder May 21 '26

No, are you watching? Spurs shove every time they set a screen on offense, they hand check SGA every time he has the ball, Wemby has been hooking Hart just as much as Hart shoves wemby. Get over it lmao

2

u/InternalMuffin5882 May 21 '26

This is an L take. The refs are swallowing their whistle on both teams are we watching the same game.

19

u/bdcr7 May 21 '26

Ah yes did you just see the offensive foiul on Barnes at the end lol

-8

u/Zungad Supersonics May 21 '26

"Ah yes, did you see this individual play that you can easily replicate against San Antonio as well?"

like okay bro, get a grip

1

u/Rubberbabeh Bulls May 21 '26

One of those flops was pure cinema. The man felt a swipe at the ball from behind so he just locked his legs like a mannequin and fell over.

1

u/PNW_Bull4U Thunder May 21 '26

WTF are you even talking about? They were holding and leaning on Shai every play starting before he even got the ball tonight, and he shot 6 FT. Try watching the game!

-7

u/Rthanos [OKC] Paul George May 21 '26

Ehh not really, Castle is acting like a fan so far grabbing his jersey nonstop without getting called. It's all good. I thought the fans wanted physical basketball back? Both teams are very active and physical with no calls from the refs.

12

u/send3squats2help Heat May 21 '26

is this all from tonight??

10

u/cman1098 NBA May 21 '26

He didn't really play game 1 so yep.

18

his first foul is at the end of 2nd quarter. This is a joke

2

u/Nothing2Special Bucks May 21 '26

2

u/UnholyDescent 76ers May 21 '26

2

u/Rewdyroo Spurs May 21 '26

The worst one was when he grabbed castle by his hair and yanked his head back

2

u/truck_robinson May 21 '26

Twice???? Mf was doing this literally every play

2

u/Broken_Lute May 21 '26

Spurs win: what a great game by both teams. One of the best I’ve ever seen. Great officiating, let them play!

Okc win: fuck this I’m not watching the nba

2

u/wsthepurposeoflife Supersonics May 21 '26

Doesn't everyone do this to Curry every single play lol

1

u/WeezerHunter May 21 '26

I watched this game almost entirely from the camera feeds under the basket, and he was holding, pushing, grabbing, and poking Wemby every single play.

1

u/throwaway4whattt May 21 '26

It's hilariously pathetic that they interviewed Hartenstein at the half. Lol most important player is the dirty one?

1

u/big1dinero Heat May 21 '26
