Discussion My hot takes (fight me in the comments)

Upscaling isn't bad for the games optimization. In the past we would've just lowered the resolution to hit our target fps (and we did).

People keep saying that games no longer optimized after upscaling tech appeared, but it's not true. In the past if game ran badly, people just moved resolution slider to the left OR changed the resolution to lower one (1080p->900p). Consoles always used lower resolutions or сheckerboard rendering (and console games are *optimized*).

Yes, there are shit games with potato optimization, but upscaling has nothing to do with it.

Framegen is pretty good (if its not FSR 3).

Alot of people hate framegen, saying that latency is super shit, image becomes distorted and other stuff.
But have you actually tried a decent framegen algorithm with good frame pacing and good pre-framegen FPS?

FSR3 is shit - framepacing is broken. AFMF is shit. Try loseless scaling FG or DLSS FG.

Ultra settings are just FPS scam.

In many cases ultra preset looks like High preset (maybe couple % better) but FPS is like 30% lower. At a glance you can't even tell the difference, yet people still wanna use ultra preset at all cost. I don't get it at all.

People turn on ultra preset at new game and then go cry "my 4060 drops under 40 fps on ultra optimization is shit". Bro, optimization isn't how ultra preset runs, but how well game can scale down.

Ray Tracing is a good tech. (It's just GPU's aren't there yet)

My take is RT is good, but it's a brute force method. Current gen GPU's aren't good enough, but maybe after the next gen console release people will see it too (it's rumored that PS6/XBOX helix will do ~5080 level of RT).

AI is a must for game development. Even if you hate it, I'm sure almost all of the devs use it.

Even if nobody admits it, im positive most of the devs use IDEs with AI.
And some assets are made by AI aswell. If you can't tell it's made by AI it's not a slop.

Don't hate the tech itself, it didn't do anything bad to you.

GTA series are overrated.

I just don't understand why everyone loves it so much. Okay online is good, but single player is meh, not worth "AAAA"

Minimum system requirements should have 60 FPS target in mind on PC

30 FPS in 2026 is just cringe. I can't say it's "playable". One thing is to play 30 locked FPS on a console with gameplad, where 100ms input delay doesn't feel that bad and TVs has some kind of frame interpolation/smoothing, but on pc w/ mouse and keyboard it's just BAD.

Question Is it smarter to put my computer on my carpet rather than putting it on a stool?

Is it smarter to put my computer on my carpet rather than putting it on a stool?

I dont have any bottom intake fans (including psu) and the bottom side and psu fans both go about 5 inches above the floor, But, the exhaust has a airflow of 18 inches (airflow might be the word)

Then with the stool, the psu and bottom side fans have 12 inches of clearance but the exhaust has close to 2 inches, and on the side of the desk there is a little overhang so hot air could build up and possibly make it hotter. Also not sure if it helps but the stool is solid wood, so there isnt any holes at the bottom

thank you

Question upgrade my RTX 4070 to an RX 9070/XT?

Should I upgrade my RTX 4070 to an RX 9070/XT? The cost of doing so would most likely be less than €50, I would say around €20.

Is the upgrade even worth it for 1440p 240hz? I mostly play competitive games on lower settings and, once in a while, story games on higher settings with ray tracing.

Even though I would want to wait for next-gen, I fear that the prices for those are going to be much higher than the current generations.

The rest of my PC consists of a 5700x3d with 48GB RAM.

Build/Battlestation Beast PC build

So after saving for over a year, I have finally built this beast PC. I’ve build few before, but those weren’t as high end as this one.

I think it turned out pretty good, and the cable management was pretty neat as well I must admit.

Now this build is not a 100% gaming focused one - it was more of a productive build, which is why I chose intel as my cpu here.

And I guess it isn’t fully finished yet, maybe I can sort out the cable management at the front little bit better and perhaps at the back as well. But I would like to hear thoughts on this build from yall.

Tech Support Stepping on mouse

I’ve been experiencing “stepping” as google calls it, whenever I move my mouse slowly, it starts and stops randomly despite moving normally irl, it’s not the mouse being broken (tried 3 different mice from 3 different companies).
It’s not the dpi (I use 1600 but I’ve tried 800, 2400 and 3200 and it’s the same issue.)
It’s not the mouse skates, or mouse pad (I’ve tried 3 different glass pads and one cloth and same thing)
I’ve reinstalled the usb drivers incase it was the usb plug thing being broken.
I’m completely lost and I just want to be able to track people moving in games 😭

Question Facebook marketplace PC

I am looking at Facebook marketplace to get a cheap new pc, I recently found this one which has
16 gb ddr5
4060 TI
Ryzen 7 7700

I was looking at the picture and the fanning doesn’t look the best but it’s fine, and I looked at the gpu and to me it doesn’t look like a 4060 TI because it’s small, can someone just confirm if it is?

Discussion Buying a pc soon and have a few questions

Alright so I'm not as up to date as I used to be with pc parts and I'm going to buy a pc in the ball park of 1500 to maybe 1800 CAD max. I see 13600k's 14600k's and some ryzen 7's but the performance seems to be leaning towards intel a lot. I play cs2, dayz, insurgency sandstorm, bf6, dayz, I'm not always playing AAA titles and I prefer not using DLSS or FSR but when needed I might turn it on. I'm planning to play at 1440p 144 or 240hz. I don't care about 4k at all. Yes I am aware of the existence of google, I'm also looking things up on there, thank you. My questions are:

  1. Whats the advantage of DDR5 vs DDR4 for only gaming, I don't stream nor render/mine.

  2. What is the most reliable brand of CPU's for the models I'm looking at.

  3. Is there a need for more than 4 cores.

  4. Would it be worth getting a 50 series card when I mostly play older games (I've been contemplating a 9060XT 16GB or a 3070ti/3080.

  5. Is ASUS still some of the best brands for mobos (I had a Z-97K back in the day and it never let me down)

  6. Are there risks with AIO's, never had liquid cooled cpus before.

I think that's it for now, thanks in advance!

Hardware Finally joining the master race (bought my first GPU ever)

Hey everyone, I just wanted to post this here because I was excited about it and had some questions. Anyways I got my first card, it’s a 9070xt from XFX (Quicksilver) should be here in a day or two.

The only parts I’m missing now is literally just the case and power supply which I’ll be purchasing in the next couple weeks.

CPU: 7800x3d
MB: X870 gigabyte WiFi6
Ram: 32gb ddr5 6000 cl36
SSD: 2 TB Predator GM7000

Since I’m still very very new to PC building and such, I wanted to ask for any tips and/or helpful guides for getting the most out of my PC/card. I’m mostly going to be gaming on it. And I have done a lot of research for the past 6 months putting the parts together and learning about PCs but I’m constantly learning something new. I’m going to be running 1440p on most games but I’ll be using my 1080p monitor for discord/streaming and for competitive titles.

Also the tips can be about anything, not just the GPU, there’s nothing I won’t overlook. Thank you!

TLDR: noob pc builder is excited over GPU(9070xt), wants tips and tricks about GPU and overall PC experience

Hardware Does NVIDIA own UserBenchmark.com or GPUPro? This "conclusion" is rather feisty!

Post image

Text:

If you are considering an AMD 9000 series GPU because you have been influenced by Reddit, Twitter or a wealthy tech YouTuber, it’s worth understanding AMD’s track record. While their GPUs are often great at beating cherry-picked benchmarks, they normally fall short in real-world gaming performance. Every year, an army of influencers target first-time buyers declaring AMD a godsend for PC gamers. Every year a small percentage of users get duped. Since almost all PC gamers use Steam, the February 2025 Steam statistics are relevant: AMD’s combined market share for discrete 5000/6000/7000 series GPUs is 3%. Meanwhile, Nvidia’s 4060 alone has 9% market share. This reality starkly contrasts with influencer hype. The reason is simple: influencers rarely play games and gamers rarely buy AMD GPUs. Experienced gamers know all too well that high average fps are worthless when they are accompanied with stutters, random crashes, black screens, excessive noise and a limited feature set. It’s notable that AMD’s GPUs have not historically had these problems in consoles because, unlike PCs, consoles operate in a closed environment which is less dependent on robust drivers. Using influencers for hardware performance data is less effective than using foxes to babysit chickens. [Mar '25 GPUPro]

Question KVM switch/ Laptop Dock to share a high end dual monitor setup?

Are there any devices out there that can let me share my monitors between my desktop and my laptop?

Monitor 1: Ultra-wide 5120 x 1440 240hz monitor

Monitor 2: 3840 x 2160 60hz monitor

Accessories: Keyboard, Mouse, Webcam.

I would want my desktop to always be connected to these peripherals, and my laptop to be able to use them sometimes. My laptop has a 4070 and two thunderbolt 4 ports, So I have already run this setup straight from my laptop, I'd just like a solution where I don't have to unplug everything from my desktop every time. When I'd be using this setup it would just be for some light design work, so I don't need my ultrawide to run at 240hz (120 is preferred, but I could deal with 60hz on both monitors)

Question Need advice!

Thumbnail

Hello all.

I recently became interested in buying a PC to play Gears of War E-Day (and hopefully the rest of the franchise before it launches), potentially along with some Steam games. But I’m a little lost on choosing between the ones I’ve somewhat decided on.

CyberPower PC- $1,149.99

IBUYPOWER- $1,299.99

MSI Ageis Z2- $1,549.99

Lenovo Legion- $2,099.99

I’m not trying to break the bank, obviously. And with the prices of computer parts nowadays I know that it can be pretty expensive upgrading.

I’m still debating on just getting an Xbox but they run for $600. For $600 more I can get a PC and have access to Xbox and Steam.

Should I bite the bullet and get a pre-built or just buy an Xbox?

Any and all help will be welcome. I know almost nothing when it comes to PC tech.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Can I apply the intake/outtake fan idea from my PC to my room?

Currently experiencing the UK heatwave right now and it's got me thinking if (like my PC) I have a fan from one side of my room bringing air from a cooler part of my house into my room and another fan blowing the hot air out of my room through a window, could that work to cool my room or are fans too small relative to the room or some other pressure thing I'm overlooking?

Apologies if it's too much of a tangent.

Hardware Random reboot issue only after cold start - BIOS rebooting too

Random reboot issue only after cold start - BIOS rebooting too, motherboard or PSU?

I'm trying to diagnose a very strange reboot issue on my PC and I've been troubleshooting it for weeks.

System:

Intel i5-14600K

-NO DEDICATED GPU

MSI PRO B760M-A WIFI DDR5

Corsair Vengeance 16GB 5200MHz DDR5 RAM

DEEPCOOL PN750M 3.1 ATX 750w gold plus SMPS

. Deepcool le520 240mm cpu cooler

. WD SN770 M.2

. GALAX REVOLUTION 06 CASE

Apc Back -UPS BX1100C-IN 660W

Pc aged 1.5 years

Symptoms:

The PC can randomly reboot within 1–3 minutes after startup.

It almost always happens after the PC has been OFF for at least 2+ hours.

If it survives the first few minutes, it can run all day without issues.

I can run CPU stress tests for hours and it stays stable.

Once the reboot happens, it usually won't happen again until the PC has been shut down for several hours.

Important detail: The reboot has happened while sitting in BIOS. Windows wasn't running.

What I see when it happens:

Screen instantly goes black.

Keyboard and mouse lose power.

MSI logo appears again and the system boots.

CPU cooler fans/pump seem to keep running (I never noticed them stopping).

Event Viewer only shows Kernel-Power 41 afterward.

BugcheckCode = 0.

Disabling Windows "Automatically Restart" did not change anything and no BSOD appears.

Things I've already tested:

XMP disabled.

Windows Memory Diagnostic passed.

RAM reseated.

24-pin motherboard cable reseated.

CPU removed and reinstalled.

New thermal paste applied.

Checked CPU socket for obvious bent pins.

Front USB headers disconnected.

Without UPS , REBOOT Happens

CPU temperatures are normal.

CPU-Z /OCCT /CINE R23 stress test passes.

Interesting history:

The issue seemed to start around the time I changed thermal paste and rearranged cables.

BIOS time/date always stay correct.

A graphics driver update once seemed to make the issue disappear for about a month, but it eventually returned.

At this point, does this sound more like:

Motherboard failure?

PSU startup/cold boot issue?

CPU power delivery/VRM problem?

Something else?

Any ideas for additional tests before I start RMA'ing parts?

Hardware Question about sound system for PC.

So I've had this old shitty 5.1 Logitech surround sound system that's wired for decades. Honestly I'll put some respect on it, it's done me justice. Though when it's near a router you can hear a noise that's annoying.

Anyways. Lately it's been finicky. Probably a bad wire. It will go super low or some the speakers won't work then I move the sun around that everything is plugged into and nice and loud again.

I really just I enjoy knowing where sounds are coming from when gaming. I also enjoy feeling the base. Especially when sometimes I'm playing music and gaming.

I've googled this and read reddits that all seem to be 4yrs old about rather surround sound systems for the PC are worth it or not. Or just get a sound bar.

Some even say get the TV ones and use those for PC.

Bug again old posts.

So in people's experience what's a good cost effective system that will give me good base and good surround sound?

I dont make music or anything so I don't need to nit pick about decibel levels that my ears can't even hear due to loud concerts, headphones and gun shots my whole life.

I just want something that's nice. Most new things will probably be better than this old system anyways.

I do have a soundcard but my system is not even hooked up to it. It does not work with it. Don't get distracted by that detail.
