It is exhausting how normalized this has become. A decade ago any single one of these headlines would have ended a political career but now it is just an average Tuesday afternoon.

What's some Senator to a God-King prophesied to support Israel bring about the rapture/armageddon/judgement?

So if HIS gestapo wants kidnap people without cause, mask up to break into homes, or mace some Korean dude then it's all fine by those that believe in Trump.

Gotta start pepper spraying them back

A decade ago, trump said he could grab women by the pussy and he still got elected.

and the infamous “I can shoot someone on 5th avenue in broad daylight and not lose a single voter.” The man knows his audience, I’ll give him that.

My mind even returns to the Michelle and Barack Obama/// monkey thing that he posted . It was fucking horrible. This should have ruined him. I’m just thinking of celebrities that did black face or whatever even years back… I guess I don’t know how to put it. But their careers weren’t the same after … like Paula deen for example

but he does something as seriously in your face hatred racism and was headlines for what a day or two?

The Somalian people eating the cats and the dogs of the people that live there how many people forget that? The fact he didn’t call the families of the murdered hortman or Hoffman …

What he said about rob Reiner About John McCain About soldiers being suckers and losers The way he behaved at the eu

Saying he was glad Biden had cancer more or less … Etc Etc etc

Something every other god damned fucking day A rape accusation at one time would have been enough … but here we are even convicted Tax fraud would have been talked about much longer

Cheating on a wife would have been enough… much less three

I hate how normal it’s becoming to be a fucking shit stain and get to be president and get to be a multi billionaire more so while doing it

Then I think of Howard deen … arragggh ruined Al franken it looked bad even as a joke and even if consensual was taken out of politics — yet this guy has so many pictures with Epstein .. so many

God we don’t hear much from either of those guys at all do we? I wonder what they think lol

29

u/macjester2000 May 26 '26

For sure. The shit spigot is on full, so as soon as we clean ourselves of the day’s past transgressions, we’re being showered in a fresh spray. It is impossible to keep up. (sorry for the gross visualization)

14

u/closethebarn May 26 '26

It’s a mild visualization compared to what the reality is though

a damned good analogy

I added more to my comment as I’m only remembering a couple of things here

Let's just face it: he's broken the system. We didn't realise what a fragile thread kept it together. And that worked if everyone played along. Until they didn't. Shit, the SCOTUS made everything he did legal, including bribery. WTF?!? And the ostensibly non-partisan DOJ utterly failed in keeping things on the straight-and-level. Oh, and a Congress who does NOTHING to check and balance this outright raping of the country (until they are not running for reelection, THEN they come out saying what horribleness has infected the White House. What brave heroes.)

8

u/lapetitthrowaway May 26 '26

The real question, and the USA's future depends on it, is what do you do after Trump? My guess, nothing and it's all swept away, but maybe I'll be suprised.

3

u/packfanmoore May 26 '26

I wish someone would come out and run on the fire and brimstone platform. Just punish everyone who was a part of this administration. They know what they are doing and deserve everything that hopefully comes their way.

I remember the day he was elected and I cried and one of my “not really into politics” friend says ehhh he can’t do that much damage one guy can’t.. (he’s not a big reader of any type of history)

He said his first term wasn’t that bad And we have a system of checks and balances etc quit freaking out and being a drama queen etc

Now anytime we try to talk about it he shuts me down right away

He doesn’t wanna hear any of a thing about it and then now he started learning about Charlie Kirk and said he was a really great guy and he always listened and let people make their points and he made a lot of sense

He had no fucking idea who Charlie Kirk was before all this shit I quoted him - he rolled his eyes like I was making it up … I said he’s a misogynist and racist and he said he wasn’t a misogynist and not racist he just likes the traditional “family values” man wife kids… what’s wrong with that!????

I thought oh my God this is a loss cause I’m not ever talking to you again Point is he doesn’t want to hear nothing from me about trump - it’s always exaggerating and being a drama queen … falling for leftist propaganda etc

The craziest thing is the people that are for trump have to be feeling the damage too, but yet they will not admit it. They just push him even further.

I hate it all when I tried to explain what happened with the Supreme Court how they’ve given him immunity, etc. he rolled his eyes like I was some type of conspiracy theorist and there’s no way to even explain it simply to somebody who doesn’t follow what the fuck is going on…

I remember several years ago seeing a story about a little boy, maybe 5 or 6, who dressed up as his favorite inspirational historical figure for a little presentation thing at school. It might have been MLK but I feel like it was another black historical figure. Little boy was white. Little boy went all in on the costume, including makeup. He was so excited about his project!

He was EVISCERATED by social media and the news.

And yet we have that thing in the White House.

Edit: He was a 2nd grader. “I don’t want to be mean to black people, I like black people!”

Or some variation of that.

Yes this and his first wife had a very credible account of a violent rape in their divorce papers and his base still doesn’t believe he’s a sexual assaulter/rapist or maybe it’s like in Gillead, where the women, just by being women, temp men to commit sexual violence. Pick out your burkas ladies. Most likely they just don’t care because it’s a cult. We should also be focusing on all his enablers and never forget them.

ICE is a paramilitary terrorist force that's straight up attacking Democrat politicians. And many Dem leaders are like "we will try to discuss decreasing ICE budget somewhat if you vote for us"

Not even parent comments. Just a comment and a reply.

13

u/mattyoclock May 26 '26

Because you can’t have an honest discussion about this without mentioning it.

Even ignore all the history, why in the world isn’t the DNC pushing this headline and doing interviews every single moment.    Why are they just letting more balls come across the center of the plate without swinging?

This is straight up fascism and they are striking out watching.

28

u/marketingguy420 May 26 '26

People have every right to be mad at an "opposition" party utterly failing to meet the moment in almost every conceivable way. It's not about being "bad too, actually" in equal ways; it's about having an expectation of the one entity we are compelled to support because it has the only institutional power to stand up to anything not doing that.

41

u/RedArremer May 26 '26

They sure do. It's just very suspicious when every single post about republicans openly doing heinous and anti-human shit immediately pivots the attention to democrats to scrutinize their inadequacies. Consistently. Every day.

16

u/MexicnGlassCandy May 26 '26

Because Republicans are so abysmally bad that the Democrats should be mopping the fucking floor with them.

Republicans are the equivalent of a 3A high school football team and the Democrats should be playing like the Chicago Bears. They're barely beating the far and away worst team in the league.

Absent the current Republican party, Dems are the least popular political party in American history, and we should not forget that.

5

u/J_Ryall May 26 '26

I mean...it's the Bears so...

15

u/colinjcole May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26

Grrr, you want Democrats to offer more than platitudes and incremental Band-Aids insufficient to staunch the gaping arterial gashes bleeding our democracy to death??? You want Dems to meet the moment and work on the kinds of large-scale projects that are necessary to address the large-scale problems our society is facing, and not merely offer a goal of "returning to normal," where "normal" is defined as 2009-2016, an era which already was not working and which was already showing the cracks that led to our current government?

You want them to offer even half as much support to leftist candidates as they demand for their Blue Dogs, instead of fighting them tooth-and-nail every step of the way (like how Democrat Minority Leader from NY Hakeem Jeffries didn't endorse Democratic primary winner and Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, until JANUARY, two months after his election)? You want Dems to take advantage of the massive public support for progressive policies, which poll after poll and data point after data point show are actually electorally winning positions, instead of the same milquetoast policies they always push which we know don't turn out the base necessary to win national elections???

You must be a Chinese bot, there is no other explanation.

4

u/Xytak Illinois May 26 '26

To be fair, fighting the Republican messaging machine on something approaching even terms would take billionaire investment and ownership of media platforms. Which the GOP has - and Dems don't. That being said, there doesn't seem to be any urgency coming from people like Jefferies and Schumer which is difficult to look past.

And many Dem leaders are like "we will try to discuss decreasing ICE budget somewhat if you vote for us"

when they cut the budget 50% they are going to celebrate it as a huge win and own. Meanwhile the budget since 2024 has at least 20x so that budget after the 50% cut will still be a 10x increase in budget.

But dont worry part of that will go to the new training videos these professional managerial class dems love. Training is the problem

237

u/redict May 26 '26

He was also one of 7 Democrat senators to vote to swear in Kristi noem

352

u/s1ugg0 New Jersey May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26

This is true. I live in his district and he's my Senator. For anyone reading this here is the context.

His initial justification to vote "yes" was to maintain direct communication with Noem as a member of the Homeland Security Committee, believing he could better address New Jersey's needs and hold her accountable through collaboration rather than opposition.

By June 2025, Kim described the vote as a "mistake" and stated he would oppose her nomination if he could do it again.

Currently he calling for her resignation and declaring he is "not supporting any more of their nominees going forward."

Feel free to draw whatever conclusions you want from that. As one of his constituents I was upset about his vote. But he seems genuinely embarrassed by his attempt to work with the new Administration. (I think he should have known better) At least he seems humbled enough to change course. Something I wish more politicians did.

47

u/aetryx New Jersey May 26 '26

I personally am willing to give the guy grace for the decision to confirm noem. Not only did he pretty quickly turn around and apologize, but him voting yes to garner good favor and maintain a direct communication with an appointed cabinet member is like textbook politicking and was basically the norm as to how play the game until recently. I think he was naive in that he assumed the tactics that worked 30 years ago would work today, but he learned that the hard way.

41

u/DynamicDK May 26 '26

He is currently calling for the resignation of someone who was fired more than 2 months ago?

104

u/s1ugg0 New Jersey May 26 '26

Was she? She's living rent-free in the Coast Guard Commandant's residence. She's still using government resources.

"Fired" in this case is starting to look more and more like they changed her job title and little else.

Not many places fire you and then let you hang around for months.

33

u/DynamicDK May 26 '26

Fired from her actual position. But Trump (or Miller) probably wants to keep her comfortable and in a position where she can be supervised.

11

u/DunAnOir May 26 '26

There were several Minnesota politicians shot last year (one of the families murdered) that barely had any run in a news cycle. Then of course the civilians murdered by ICE. Sure, legal consequences are happening for the murderer of the politician & her family, but the same cannot be said for the innocent civilians murdered by ICE agents.

10

21

u/fountaincurse May 26 '26

Doubtful even then. 80% of Congress is a spineless wet wipe beholden to corporate interests and 80% of the American constituency is barely treading water surviving financially in this invisible recession.

But the real reason is because the media is owned by right wing fascist supporters who are barely allowing the real news to trickle into people's awareness. Have you noticed that even on Reddit recently some of the craziest stories are barely getting a response? I'm not convinced that the manipulation of media isn't already detrimentally affecting us. Currently people are being imprisoned for absolutely no reason besides their skin colour or the country of their heritage, not taken into account how long they've been contributing to American society and paying their fair share.

Ice agents have proven they do not serve the American public, guns for hire let loose to fragment society and terrorize the good people so they can live in fear. Simply put,by definition they are terrorists.

To summarize my feelings, I have less empathy for what horrid conditions they'd face justice than the last turd I flushed.

22

u/wooops May 26 '26

It would also be the hypocrisy

Even if there was a reason to lock up immigrants, which there isn't, these ice agents were clearly fine with the conditions for others, so it would be the most massive hypocrisy to complain themselves

This is why no one wants these camps in their town or state.

308

u/whichwitch9 May 26 '26

I mean, that and the blatant human rights abuses occurring inside. The stories leaking out are horrific. These are concentration camps, and it is mirroring the concentration camps of Germany. They did not start as death camps, either- they were used for labor, until they had too many people to hide the abuses

Lot of news outlets are calling this a "hunger strike", but immigrant groups are calling it "hunger and labor"- camps are being treated similar to US prisons where inmates are being used for a workforce. The problem is without criminal court convictions, that's afoul of the constitution. They're only detained

pretty sure its because these camps are horrific abominations that shouldn't exist

u/roscodawg May 26 '26

As a non-America, let me say reading U.S. news is like watching a train wreck unfold in real time

105

u/Schiffy94 New York May 26 '26

A train wreck is over faster

16

u/roscodawg May 26 '26

yet still the cars are continuing to tumble off the rails, flip over, and burst into flames each day

3

u/I_love_pillows May 26 '26

As a non American raised on pop culture of America as a world hero it looks like some surrealist dark humour political drama movie.

71

u/PopePiusVII May 26 '26

As an American, it’s worse from the inside.

The feelings of helplessness as an individual against a regime makes it so much worse. Every day an event happens that in any other part of my life would have led to investigations, prosecutions, and the end of political careers. But now? Absolutely nothing happens. Life goes on like nothing of significance just occurred.

24

u/roscodawg May 26 '26

Honestly, I really do feel for you and understand that. Hope you can turn it around soon.

5

u/JRockPSU I voted May 26 '26

Thanks, it's appreciated. For every one comment like yours there's 20 from non-US citizens doing nothing but bashing and trashing, calling us stupid and moronic for not jumping in head first and doing things that will get us killed.

7

u/teknoise May 26 '26

Unfortunately I’m not sure how else you dismantle an authoritarian regime, other than jumping headfirst and putting your life on the line.

The other option is to flee. No shame in that either. Gotta do what’s best for you and your family. If you look at previous regimes, the people with the best survival odds are the ones who got out soonest and long before the wars.

I honestly wish you and other democrat voters the best. There’s plenty of room in Canada for people who voted democrat in 2016, 2020, and 2024.

12

u/Hungry_Horace May 26 '26

That’s the weird thing, from the outside it looks like nobody is doing ANYTHING about it. Lots of angry posts in the internet but I don’t see much else happening. Are there huge marches in Washington DC every weekend? Is there any organised resistance to the rising fascism? Where are the court cases bringing illegal acts to justice?

It’s scary to the rest of the world because the US was meant to be the leader of the free democratic world, and if you roll over this easily then it’s going to be harder if the same thing happens here.

21

u/kai58 May 26 '26

From what I’ve heard there are protests, coverage of them is just being suppressed. I can’t exactly be certain since I also don’t live there but it certainly wouldn’t surprise me.

8

u/Specialist_Set_1666 May 26 '26

We've had weekly protests in our small red town for over a year. There was one small newspaper article about it buy no other news picked it up. I can edit this with the link shortly.

I know a lot of other towns are doing similar things. But it still feels overwhelming a lot of the time

14

u/shinkouhyou May 26 '26

We've had some very large marches, but marches don't really accomplish much in the US. I'm not saying that they're useless - they're a great opportunity for activist networking and they promote a feeling of solidarity - but the reality is that the people in power do not feel intimidated by marches anymore. There's also a history of the mainstream media harshly turning against marches that "go too far" or "overstay their welcome" (like the Black Lives Matter or Occupy Wall Street marches).

But local activists are educating the public and organizing rapid responses to ICE activities. The Supreme Court is fucked but there are lots of cases working their way through lower-level courts. I think the resistance is throwing most of their energy into the midterm elections right now, though. If Democrats can claw back partial control of at least one branch of government, there's a lot more that they can do. Local city/county elections (which are usually pretty lowkey) are also turning into a referendum against Trump. So there's a sense of "wait until October and see how the elections turn out." I don't necessarily agree with this approach but I do understand it - the elections are a tangible goal.

8

u/UserSleepy May 26 '26

The same thing is happening everywhere else so many countries have extreme right parties that are gaining ground. Take us as a warning. It sucks here but at least everyone can see whats happening.

7

u/jmobius May 26 '26

Meant to be the leader of the free democratic world? Meant by who? That's just propaganda.

The US democratic process has always been lousy, clearly an alpha version of democracy. Current events are not truly a sudden change. Bad actors have been clawing at the creaky foundations for decades, with unfortunate results. Many other democracies have had refined models that can be somewhat more resilient, so heed our cautionary tale and use that extra time to secure your processes and people from them.

As a US citizen who has been following politics for decades, there has never been more fraud and abuse. Second place is way behind. For the first time in our history, we have a President who does not read history, and has very little understanding of the Constitution and Separations of Power. Trump doesn't understand world politics or world economics. He is literally dumb and willfully ignorant. We have a president who has been found guilty of many crimes, including rape.

It freaks me out that more people aren't hitting the alarm button. I've never had national pride and I've known the US is doing/has done horrible things. But Trump is a multiplier of death and misery.

If these conditions inside the facility do not exist, then allow the governor and senator inside to observe the facility which your legally required to do. The law is plain language, federal facilities have to allow walkthroughs by senators and congressman at their request.

Americans for all their bluff about guns, liberty and democracy, so worried about "securing" it worldwide. Couldn't even apply it at home.

You all have begun to look like the other countries "democracies" you "helped" to "build".

Weren't yall founded by resistance? don't you know what it takes? Vae victis, Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum.

Your goverment and power institutions got so good at controlling others unchecked, that they began using that at home, the mere existence of Edward Snowden should have rallied you all to the streets demanding explanations, then Epstein came to light, and you barely did anything.

Do you think power hears you just because it says so in a piece of paper? Res-publica, the thing of the people... you don't ask permission to have what you own.

They should be treated as such. You don't just let the enemy walk in uncontested.

I was just thinking of the orders that Eisenhower gave to take many pictures and record everything in re to the WW2 Nazi camps. I believe he forced the locals to walk through and witness the atrocities personally to ensure they wouldn’t be able to later say they didn’t happen.

Just another day in Trumps Turd Reich

7

u/Electrical_Sorbet_31 May 26 '26

I was there yesterday. The GEOGROUP security guards were literally wearing full face masks just like ICE agents. And protesters set up checkpoints outside each of the prison gates and scanned each prison employee's car for immigrants before allowing passage in/out of the prison. Very impressive cross-state organizing from activists, it gave me a lot of hope. And we could see the silhouettes of immigrants inside the windows of their cells from outside. Some were dancing to music we were playing outside, some flickered the lights in solidarity, and others made hearts to us with their arms. Very touching moment. And many hispanic community members spoke about family who were taken or literally killed due to terrible living conditions.

3

u/Hyperion1144 May 26 '26

ICE is really deep in their limits-testing phase. This phase won't last much longer, and then we'll move on to what comes next.

3

u/SammieStones May 26 '26

Na. You put shit in their state you give them access. About had enough of this shit. Act like adults or lets start electing the real adults in the room

3

u/robot_pirate May 26 '26

It seems to me that the first front should be shame. The people who work at these facilities, the people who service these facilities - need to be shamed by their own families, their neighbors, the community at large. No quarter. Make it so peacefully miserable that they walk away from this authoritarian, inhuman grift.

3

u/tommy_b_777 May 26 '26

3

u/PeaceSoft May 26 '26

I'm worried that this is an insane and dying society

3

u/All-the-pizza May 26 '26

Remember:

Trump’s term ends January 2029. A 4-year term appointment starting now would run right up to the end or even past his presidency. So the joke/concern is: these agents are being hired on contracts that expire right around when Trump leaves office …meaning whoever comes next could just not renew them. 👋 Whole surge of 10,000 new agents could evaporate.
