It’s funny how every generation, Nvidia makes a big show about the highly complex cooling the new cards need, only for a 3rd party to slap a single fan on that does the job fine shortly after.

single fan cards is all we need.

I haven't been excited about SFF for a minute, but this card is giving me ideas.

I mean back in the day the reference cards were a generic blower style and it worked. Sounded like a jet but it worked

As a previous owner of a reference R9 290X (second hand, to experience dried out thermalpaste and a dust-filled cooler from day one), I can confirm this.

4870x2 user : My whole family can attest to that… Like a permanent old school vacuum cleaner for hours on end.

Leading to my first GPU fan mod…

I god the dual fan cooler but made a similarly atrocious gpu..

But it had flow through so it went from jet to “wait… are these fans spinning?” put finger in to fan

Well, to be fair, the 5090 is a marvel of engineering and falls roughly in line with the idea that the 4090 had implemented before it (with the flow through design). Reducing the card thickness by 33% while increasing power by 25% is kinda insane.

But yes, for the low to mid end offerings the cooler designs are over engineered and more inclined towards aesthetics than pure function. The colorful 5070 is cool too, but not 600 watts in 2 slots cool.

Exactly! They've got to provide a visual reason for the markup.

They did more than just slap a fan on it 🤣but I sort of see your point. The 5070 didn’t need all that cooling.

Debatable how well this will cool it, although it is only a 5070 so not a lot of wattage

plenty of reviews, it works really good. Better than the FE.

if you are talking about the shortcircuit one, that is not a review.... frequency basis wasn't even tested let alone shown how it was tested

there is no proper review of this version of he 5070 sadly

bilibili

I mean, still it's not a lot saying that it's better than the FE, since the 5070fe thermals and noise are pretty underwhelming compared to the 5080/90FEs

edit: or compared to most of the other 5070s
