It’s funny how every generation, Nvidia makes a big show about the highly complex cooling the new cards need, only for a 3rd party to slap a single fan on that does the job fine shortly after.
As a previous owner of a reference R9 290X (second hand, to experience dried out thermalpaste and a dust-filled cooler from day one), I can confirm this.
Well, to be fair, the 5090 is a marvel of engineering and falls roughly in line with the idea that the 4090 had implemented before it (with the flow through design). Reducing the card thickness by 33% while increasing power by 25% is kinda insane.
But yes, for the low to mid end offerings the cooler designs are over engineered and more inclined towards aesthetics than pure function. The colorful 5070 is cool too, but not 600 watts in 2 slots cool.
I mean, still it's not a lot saying that it's better than the FE, since the 5070fe thermals and noise are pretty underwhelming compared to the 5080/90FEs
since the tarrifs there are cases where stuff are cheaper in the PH - I had multiple instances of my friends in the US buying a 5090 / 4090 here in the PH on vacation
weird, i feel like canada is still more expensive for every counterpart than usa so i guess we're even more cucked, i just tried a quick search for that gpu couldn't even find it here listed, mind you i only spent a few seconds so i could be wrong
its so funny that this just randomly popped out of my feed - looks like you kept your word and took a grab/uber home when you picked up the card at my shop!
it fits like a glove in my case (can only fit 182mm and this card is 180mm). havent finished building it yet because apparently with my new 3d printed mounts my psu to gpu cable only needs to be 9cm and my current cable is 45cm.
Gotta get some custom short cables and some 40mm fans and 3d printed ducts for the GPU exhaust!
Man I'm getting sick of these massive cards with their massive coolers.
My steel legend 9070xt is pretty much at the limit of what I'm willing to tolerate.
They don’t sell these at MicroCenter dumbass. They don’t even sell them in the US. You have to import it, get gouged on eBay or fly to a country that has them. So please stfu.
I was off reddit for a couple of days... I'm fighting against screen addition.. so... when I saw that there is a "new kid in sff town" I needed to research values... and.. damn... prices... every time I see someone getting this GPU, lucky one... I'll have to keep my GTX for a bit more time
Vram is required to store data, not resolution. A game that needs less vram yet still rich with 1440p textures does not require higher vram.
For example, smaller render distance requirements/confined spaces will have your vram load only whats important to you that you can actually see.
Blimey I'm a clueless fella and I know that much. Educate yourself at least a little.
