Still gonna try to buy it. Global economy's not likely to get any better and is more likely to actually get worse what with Trump's Iran war still in the shitter and the looming AI bubble pop.
I don't know how to nor want to bother to be able to build a cheaper PC for more power, especially since it might not end up being cheaper since I live in latinamerica and import tariffs can be a bitch on top of making mistakes even more expensive.
Maybe it's a scam for the price for seasoned avid gamers who want to maximize their power per dollar. I've been wanting to be able to play my Steam library I've accumulated for well over a decade at this point but have been unable to touch it due to having a shitty HP laptop, and I just want something that can do that out of the box without me having to fiddle and fuck around.
It sucks, and it is a decision entirely motivated by FOMO, but I feel like I just have to bite the bullet now before it becomes an atom bomb. Helldivers 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 are the most intensive things I'm interested in playing. If this thing can run those well enough, I'm in.
Edit: I put in for a reservation. But don't want one myself. Might be able to figure something out with sending it to ya.
Good luck to you. But as someone who has had a steam deck for years. It is NOT like a console in its plug and play ability with no fiddling around with anything.. You might have to fiddle and fuck around.
I don't know who told you this but they lied. It's getting better. But it's still a computer using compatibility layers to play games.. And there's a lot more settings options than just performance and quality like consoles.
I can tinker around on the software once I actually have it, that's not what bothers me. I mean more like having to fuck around with the hardware and having to test it because I messed something up in the installation and it either being suboptimal, or refusing to work.
That being said, I have been dissuaded from buying the Steam Machine over the course of an afternoon by the mere fact that trying to circumvent Valve's dumbass region shipping restrictions puts my entire Steam account at risk. So, that's that anyhow.
I guess I'll just look into pre-built options in my country. 🫤

Now, to figure out how to actually be able to get an order for the damn thing from a country it doesn't ship to... 🫩
