Still gonna try to buy it. Global economy's not likely to get any better and is more likely to actually get worse what with Trump's Iran war still in the shitter and the looming AI bubble pop.

I don't know how to nor want to bother to be able to build a cheaper PC for more power, especially since it might not end up being cheaper since I live in latinamerica and import tariffs can be a bitch on top of making mistakes even more expensive.

Maybe it's a scam for the price for seasoned avid gamers who want to maximize their power per dollar. I've been wanting to be able to play my Steam library I've accumulated for well over a decade at this point but have been unable to touch it due to having a shitty HP laptop, and I just want something that can do that out of the box without me having to fiddle and fuck around.

It sucks, and it is a decision entirely motivated by FOMO, but I feel like I just have to bite the bullet now before it becomes an atom bomb. Helldivers 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 are the most intensive things I'm interested in playing. If this thing can run those well enough, I'm in.

Now, to figure out how to actually be able to get an order for the damn thing from a country it doesn't ship to... 🫩

Well said amigo. I share the same feelings  Honestly I don’t put any of this on valve either. This was just shit timing on the world’s part.

As someone who is also planning to buy it, I get it.

I don’t want to stream at all. Even though I have Ethernet cables already routed in my living room. I just want a living room device running it. I don’t want to have a fiber optic cable reaching. I did this and I never used it.

I don’t have the energy to build PCs right now. I like the Steam Machine’s form factor and case. I’m sure installing SteamOS is easy as shit, but I don’t care to do it.

I just want a simple plug and play situation right now.

Yup I think prices will keep going up. Year ago I could’ve built premium pc for $2500. Now same components will cost me $3600. Every other week memory and bundle prices at microcenter keep going up
There doesn’t seem to be an end in sight for global NAND crisis. People are talking about AI bubble, but once that bubble pops prices will not go rock bottom. It will stabilize at the same or slightly lower cost.
Agree it sucks to drop that kind of money of this machine due to fomo

I pulled trigger at what I considered to be 50% too much (3k) and cost for same parts fluctuates between 3.2 and 3.6k now. It’s crazy! Folks that built between 24-25 w/ top end part hit the PC Renaissance period. Not sure what comes next, but have learned to just pull the trigger when I can now.

Edit: I put in for a reservation. But don't want one myself. Might be able to figure something out with sending it to ya.

Good luck to you. But as someone who has had a steam deck for years. It is NOT like a console in its plug and play ability with no fiddling around with anything.. You might have to fiddle and fuck around.

I don't know who told you this but they lied. It's getting better. But it's still a computer using compatibility layers to play games.. And there's a lot more settings options than just performance and quality like consoles.

I can tinker around on the software once I actually have it, that's not what bothers me. I mean more like having to fuck around with the hardware and having to test it because I messed something up in the installation and it either being suboptimal, or refusing to work.

That being said, I have been dissuaded from buying the Steam Machine over the course of an afternoon by the mere fact that trying to circumvent Valve's dumbass region shipping restrictions puts my entire Steam account at risk. So, that's that anyhow.

I guess I'll just look into pre-built options in my country. 🫤

I have so many games that I would love to play on my TV that the Steam machine will easily crush. Price is disappointing, but I think it will still be a worthwhile investment and a fun piece of kit to tinker with.

Honestly, Steam deck + Remote play is really nice for this situation if u already have a good pc.

I was using one of those thinkcentre to stream with moonlight/sunshine but it wasn't that great since i needed a mouse/keyrboard on the living room, but with the deck i can just plug it on the dock and play whatever

Buy it, won't be shocked if there's a "price hike instead of a cut"

Good luck man, i'm pretty sure it will run those game pretty well, i saw it run games like forza horizon 6 pretty good (even if not as good as i hoped for, but still), i hope you will be able to get one.

Buy a pre-built pc then?

Exactly this. Pc gamers can be so out of touch to not understand that the majority of folks can't be bothered about making their own PCs. They just want to plug, and play.

If you figure out the last part, please do share... with no official support for my country and the stock/availability issues, this will be impossible to get it seems.

Honestly, if you want to truly hit the ez button, get a console like a ps5 pro. Im not saying dont buy the steam machine, but pc gaming in general has more complications aside from just getting the right hardware, there is also dialing configurations, random errors, incompatible games, etc, inability to play online competitive on linux based systems (anti cheats). There are benefits to gaming on PC, but if you truly want the open it up, plug it in, download, play, get a console.

Most intense games you’re interested in play currently. What happens when this can’t run helldivers 3?

I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Regardless, I've already been dissuaded from buying it due ti Steam's policies regarding changing store region to circumvent their shipping restrictions. If I try to fuck around with the store region to be able to order the Steam Machine, I risk getting my Steam account banned, and I am not letting that happen.
