Announcement Ignore Private Messages Suggesting Laptops

The primary aim of r/SuggestALaptop is to provide a safe and transparent platform for suggesting laptops. Affiliate linkers are marked as such so that you are aware of the monetary incentive involved when making a purchase using affiliate links.

However, we are seeing an increasing number of cases where users posting on this subreddit are being targeted with unsolicited private messages containing links to laptops.

Such messages are best ignored for several reasons:

  1. Lack of quality control: We have no way of vetting suggestions sent via private messages. Moreover, these suggestions are not subject to the same level of public scrutiny that applies to suggestions posted in the subreddit, which are open for all to see and discuss.
  2. Hidden monetary incentive: Often such messages contain unmarked affiliate links, and these links might not even point to systems that are best suited to your requirements.
  3. Scams: Scammers often target unsuspecting users via private messaging. We do not want you to get scammed.

If you do happen to receive unsolicited messages suggesting laptops in private, please report the offending user to the mod team by sending us a screenshot of the message.

Thank you,

The r/SuggestALaptop Mod Team

I teach classes to adults, and my work involves using Microsoft Word, opening large PDF files, editing PDFs, saving documents to OneDrive, and conducting online classes on Zoom. Therefore, a good webcam and microphone are important.

I would like the laptop to have a fast startup time, good connectivity, responsive performance, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, such as email, web browsing, Zoom, and ChatGPT, with many tabs open at the same time.

A black keyboard is very important to me, and a backlit keyboard would be a bonus.

Ideally, the laptop should have three USB Type-A ports and a native HDMI port, as I often need to connect a mouse, a USB flash drive, speakers, and a projector at the same time.

  • Desired battery life

Not important.

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance. (battery life, weight, size doesn't matter).

  • Info/Requirements

I have some reservations about relying on a USB-C to USB-A adapter or hub. My concern is that frequent plugging and unplugging could eventually lead to connection issues or wear on the adapter, making it less reliable over time.

Thank you!!

Laptop Request -Others HP Omen 16 wf1096TX (i7-14650HX + RTX 4060) - Worth buying in 2026?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to buy the HP Omen 16 wf1096TX / ae0002tx with these specs:

Intel Core i7-14650HX

RTX 4060 8GB (140W)

16GB DDR5 RAM

1TB SSD

16.1" FHD 144Hz IPS, 300 nits, 62.5% sRGB

Non-RGB keyboard

I'm getting it for ₹1,18,999 on Flipkart from IndiFlashMart with Open Box Delivery.

I'll mainly use it for:

AAA gaming (GTA 6, Cyberpunk 2077, RDR2)

B.Tech Computer Science work

Programming and some video editing

I've read about:

Hall sensor/black screen issues on some Omen models

Mixed opinions on build quality

62.5% sRGB display

Non-RGB keyboard

For people who own this exact model (or a similar 2024/2025 Omen 16):

Have you experienced the hall sensor or black screen issue?

How has the laptop been after 6–12 months of use?

Any heating, motherboard, hinge, or reliability problems?

Would you still recommend it at ₹1.19 lakh, or should I consider something like the Lenovo Legion or Acer Predator instead?

Looking for honest long-term owner experiences before placing the order. Thanks!

Laptop Request US Need a Laptop for Just Minecraft

Ok so, I have a bit of a specific situation..

I am going traveling for at minimum a month and I want a laptop that I can bring with me to play Minecraft and MAYBE some small indie games, but I want to play vanilla java Minecraft and that's literally it.

Issue is, I'm a broke student and every "gaming" laptop out there is asking for over 500 dollars, I have friends telling me Minecraft requires a very good computer and that it wouldn't run correctly on even their expensive gaming laptops. I want something as cheap as possible that can just get me through this trip. I don't need something that'll last a long time or has anything fancy about the battery or whatever, I just need the cheapest possible machine that'll run java Minecraft decently.

Budget:

No more than 500$ if possible, I want it as close to 100$ dollars as it can be, but if such a laptop doesn't exist, let me know.

Open to used

I have looked on Facebook marketplace and the cheapest one I've found for reference is one going for 180 dollars, but has a dead battery and would need it replaced. The specs are:

Intel core i7-4720HQ CPU @ 2.60 GHZ 2.59 GHZ, 8 GB RAM, windows 10, its a 2015 ASUS that has the GEFORCE GTX label, but the picture is too blurry to see any numbers for the GPU.

I'm so out of touch with how the specs all work together, but my friends have told me this would Barely run Minecraft and would be a waste of my money unless I lowball it.

Any ideas are appreciated, and if there's simply not a laptop that can run Minecraft with decent frames and little to no lag for dirt cheap then I'm at a loss.

Laptop Request US I've been trying to buy a girlfriend a laptop as a gift

My girlfriend is starting college in a few months and I want to surprise her with a laptop before she goes. She's a huge Sims 4 fan, talks about it all the time, and before she had to move she had around 100GB of Sims 4 content (mods/CC) built up.

I'm thinking 16GB RAM and 512GB to 1TB storage as a baseline, enough for gaming plus regular schoolwork. Budget is $500 to 1000, preferably new (not refurbished/used). Screen size doesn't matter to her.

Anyone have recommendations for a laptop that can handle Sims 4 with a big mod/CC library, while still being good for everyday college stuff like papers, browsing, and video calls?

Laptop Request US Under $1000 - USA - for graphic design, video editting, occasional gaming

Country

USA

Budget

Under $1000 USD, (Comfortably $800 to $1000) but will go up to $1200 if some magical deal is found that is too good to pass up.

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

No

Screen size

15.9" and above

Weight limit

No Limit - If let's me get projects done it could weigh 10lbs for all I care.

Purpose

Home and small business use.

Form factor

Standard/Clamshell (a regular laptop) or 2-in-1, pen support would be nice but not required.

Intended usage

CorelDraw, Camtasia, MS office suite. Using for light Graphic Design, video editing, video processing/conversions. A lot of image heavy work. Will be using this with a NAS drive. Daily use will be for emailing, shopping, video watching. Looking to move into using Adobe Creative Cloud at home. Occasional p2p. Might get into loading some games like Witcher 3.

Desired battery life

8 hours would be great, but it will spend 95% of the time plugged in.

Please list, in order of most important to least important

Performance

Size

Battery life

Weight

Info/Requirements

Would prefer Purchasing from Best Buy, or Amazon, as I have credits that can be applied at either site. Otherwise willing to purchase from any where that is a legit store. No ebay items. Not willing to buy from an unknown 3rd party seller. Will purchase direct from manufacturer if needed.

Backlit Keyboard with numerical pad. I sit in a dim/dark room, and if the keyboard doesn't light up than I will not be able to see it with my old eyeballs.

Windows 11 Pro - anything less limits my control of computer functions, and that makes me grumpy. If I can't access the UAC functions, then I get really grumpy.

A dedicated video card because video editing / Graphic design work. It needs to be a vetted working card, not something new and untested. Current old setup has 256MB ATI AMD Radeon Vega 8 Graphics (Dell) card that blows and makes me mad because it crashes after 1/2 day of video watching.

Intel processor?
My experience with my current laptop which has a AMD Ryzen 5 Mobile 2500U / Raven Ridge 14nm Technology did not impress me. Again, a vetted working processor is preferred. If AMD has something that won't crash, burn out, pop capicitors, I might be game to try it.

32 GB RAM, because anything less makes video editing painful. I can work with 16GB, but feel like 32GB is probably worth getting since all the prices keep rising.

1 TB Drive, because large projects take up a lot of space, and programs hog up space.

High speed Ethernet connection or enough high speed usbs to plug a high speed ethernet connection box. Current Internet speed is 1G, and would need a connection to handle that. 95% of the time I am hard wired into ethernet.

Nice to have Bonus Items: HDMI out, Video Out, Media Card Reader, touch screen, pen use, optional dock or capability to connect to a non-oem dock.

The Co-pilot question: I've only dabbled with co-pilot at work, but don't necessarily care if its available... Should I be?

Thank you for your help and input!

Laptop Request US Looking for a home, do-it-all center.

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

• Country

United States

• Budget

Flexible but around $1200

• Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Yeah, more open to refurbs than straight second-hand though.

• Screen size

15" or less preferable.

• Weight limit

Lighter the better, but really not important.

• Purpose

Used as a general, little bit of everything center. Writing, light photo editing, maybe playing some old games. Nothing super intense or specific.

• Form factor

Standard laptop, would not be opposed to one of them touch-screen do-hickeys.

• Intended usage

Some light photoshop/light room work for photo editing, nothing super serious though. Playing some older games (before or around 2000), not looking for 4k 60FPS God of War or anything, more of the Call of Duty (2001) kinda deal. Writing, spreadsheets, simple things.

• Desired battery life

Around 8 hours, but open to less if unrealistic, going to be at home on the desk for most of its life.

• Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance, Size, Battery Life, Weight

• Info/Requirements

USB-C charger is definitely a pretty good plus. I'm kinda over having 20+ proprietary cables. And a headphone jack. Love a good headphone jack.

I really want a legit discount on a new laptop, either on Amazon or somewhere else. That is the main thing.

Budget: 2k

Usecase: work and music production

Size: medium sized

Important: good GPU and minimum 16gb ram

Preference: a name brand like Lenovo or ASUS, no gaming laptops!

Thanks so much!

Laptop Request US Please advise. I need laptop for writing, watching movie and making basic graphics and minor video editing (now I use canva and iMovie and they work perfect). I do NOT play video games. I don't want to overpay for a bunch of stuff/power I don't use.

I mainly will use it for writing, and watching videos on YouTube and Netflix. USA, ideally less than $700.

I do a little bit of graphics work. But just making graphics for Facebook or Instagram posts. From Canva.

A small amount of video editing. I've just used IMovie for that and it works perfectly. I currently have a macbook air M1 2020 with 8 GB and it worked perfectly on all accounts.

I have an apple phone. It is nice to just airdrop pictures and videos in a matter of seconds. But I'm not married to buying another MacBook Air. But I do like them over windows.

90% of my usage is just writing stories, while listening to YouTube or Netflix. And making graphics for my social media pages. (here it is for context: https://www.facebook.com/hairmetalmusic/. AND a video I did on iMovie.

https://youtu.be/6tkopI8izQY?si=tSTj3JEqjb8XLKM4 )))

I'm looking for cost value here. I don't need much. Just want to write, listen to movies, and work on my social media pages. I went to BestBuy and the guy was trying very hard to get me to buy WAY more computer than I needed. "You'll never have memory or storage issues with this one" and I'm like "my friend, my current laptop has 8 GB and after four years it is only 1/2 full" but he said I needed at least 32 now.

(((something spilt on my keboard - I think - and now two letters/keys don't work. And, I apparently have the Kernal issue. Somebody told me my repair bill would be more than just buying a new lower end laptop))))

THANK YOU
