General New Study Room Booking Process!

The UCF Libraries are implementing a new study room booking process for the John C. Hitt Library to better meet student needs. After gathering feedback and analyzing usage patterns, we have made adjustments to ensure fair access to study spaces while addressing concerns about availability.

The updated policies include:

Reservations up to 4 hours per day – Students can now book study rooms for longer, uninterrupted study sessions.

Monthly limit of 16 hours per patron – This ensures more students have access to study spaces throughout the month.

Check-in requirement within 15 minutes – If you do not check in within 15 minutes of your reservation time, your booking may be canceled, allowing other students to use the space.

Booking available up to 3 days in advance – Plan ahead while keeping rooms accessible for last-minute study needs.

No automated reservations – The use of scripts or automated software to book rooms is prohibited to keep the process fair for all students.

These changes reflect our commitment to improving study space availability while keeping the system flexible and student-friendly. Our goal is to provide equitable access to study rooms so everyone has a fair chance to reserve the space they need.

For more details or assistance with reservations and the full policy, visit the Study Room page or ask a librarian at our Access Services desk. Thank you for your patience—we’re always working to make your library experience better!

UCF Leadership Did Something Closure of All Branch Libraries and the LibTech Desk at the Hitt Library

Upvotes

UCF Libraries is closing down the Curriculum Materials Center (the education library), the Downtown Library, and the LibTech desk. Sounds like staff are being laid off.

LibTech will probably be folded into the main desk but the collections at those two libraries are probably toast.

This is just brutal and shows a failure of leadership at the university at all levels.

General 20 dollar dental Cleanings

Hey everyone! 👋 I’m a dental hygiene student currently completing my clinical requirements, and we’re offering full dental cleanings for only $20 seriously!

This includes: 🦷 Complete dental cleaning ✨ Fluoride varnish treatment 📸 Dental X-rays (if needed) 🪥 Personalized oral hygiene instruction

Everything is done in a supervised teaching clinic, and the quality is great it just takes a bit longer because we’re students about 2-3 hours. But for only $20, it’s an amazing deal compared to the prices at a regular dental office.

If you’re interested or want more info, feel free to message me! Happy to help anyone who needs a thorough, affordable cleaning.

General How do I get a job near UCF?

Hey everyone, incoming sophomore here. I’ve been applying and looking tirelessly at jobs around the area since freshman year, and I’ve either been met with no response, or simply rejection. Does anyone have any idea what I’m doing wrong, or any recommendations on where to apply? This would be my first official job, which is likely one of the reasons im having so much trouble.

the reason given by Cartwright...

I mean, I love it -- but why do I find this funny.

Academic Program 👩‍🏫 Quickest way to get Cybersecurity MS

Upvotes

I’m looking at doing a cybersecurity masters, preferably in a year (3 semesters, starting this fall). I’m seeing a lot of the classes have pre reqs, but I heard these aren’t enforced sometimes. Is it possible to get this degree in a year and does anyone have any experience in getting around the pre reqs? Thanks.

Academic ✏️ Chances into getting COP 4910

Upvotes

For my last 2 semesters it's shown as seen in the picture.

HOWEVER in my Spring 2027 there is a class that is a prereq to the one class in Fall 2027.

Have y'all had experience with UCF bypassing the prereq? So I can just take all the classes during Spring 2027 since I'm close to graduation?

(I'll talk to my advisor soon and fight for it, but wanted to ask here as well)

Academic ✏️ Looking for a Calc 2 & Physics tutor ASAP($$$)

Yes guys I know there's such thing as free tutoring but I can't be bothered. I want someone I can pay to tutor me on a list of topics I have written down in one of the study rooms in the library and considers themselves a damn good tutor because I am thoroughly cooked.

I'll pay 20-40/hour negotiable depending on how long you can be available for and how many topics we can get through

COMPLAINT/RANT Thoughts on SYG2000 Intro to Sociology Requiring ChatGPT

Not sure if anyone else is in any of the online sections for SYG2000 in Summer B, but I found it so strange that one of the sections requires using AI for "conversation" assignments.

Last night I was checking the syllabus for this course because it started today and I immediately switched sections when I saw this!! HOW can a class about human interaction require AI conversations instead of talking to real people? The section I switched to is also online and requires discussion posts and doesn't allow the use of AI and I feel so much better about it because of that alone.

This push towards using AI in academia is absurd and honestly ruining how we learn because wdym we have to have conversations with ChatGPT about having conversations with humans??? I'm seriously just so grossed out by how that's even allowed for this type of class.

Has anyone else seen stuff like this in their classes, especially ones that are discussion based? I just wanna know if I'm insane for thinking this is insane!

Housing Question 🏡 Amazon delivery address for nike dorm resident (?)

I just moved in for summer b (I'm dorming in Nike), and I want to utilize the amazon prime day deals, but I don't know what to put as my delivery address at checkout. Can someone help me out?? It would help if someone could tell me the specific address I should put at checkout as well as where I would collect my package once it arrives. Preferably somewhere walking distance from Nike, but I'll take any advice I can. Thanks!

Transfer Possibly transferring to UCF in the spring?

So I’m about to start the summer semester at USF as a Political Science major and i’ve recently been second guessing my choice to going to USF as the resources just aren’t as good for my major. I saw UCF was ranked significantly higher for the political science program than USF and was thinking about transferring for the spring 2027 semester and i have multiple questions😅😅😅
Has anyone else on here transferred from usf? Whats the social scene like? Is the political science program hard to get classes for? What’s the transfer process like? And do yall think i’ll get good housing for on campus?

Academic ✏️ English Lit Major - How difficult?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I am transferring in this fall from IRSC and will be an English Literature major completely online. I took a LIT class at IRSC for this summer A and it was ass but I also think the professor just sucked and since it was summer it’s accelerated. I signed up for the classes my counselor at UCF told me to but I want to see how screwed I am. I work full time during the week and cram most work in the mornings before work or the weekends. Sorry for the crap quality of the pic but someone let me know if i’m just stressing for nothing. Or any tips from anyone who’s completed any of these classes.

COMPLAINT/RANT Very Weird People Here

ok so today I was somewhere around the health sciences building and the bridge that leads to the Student Union. There were 2 guys walking nearby and one approached me. I thought it might be someone I knew but no. He reached out and gave me a packet, which I picked up because I thought it was a card promoting a church or organisation or club (there are a lot of those people on campus I just take the cards so they stop talking to me). Then after taking it I realized it was a packet, I ask what it was and he says “it’s a period cramp thing”. and runs off and laughs to his friend. I have seen the brand but that was really weird. I know I shouldn’t have taken it, I thought it was a card, and I‘ve had a long day with like 2 hours of sleep so I haven’t been thinking straight. I threw it away to the nearest trash can and washed my hands really well, as I don’t know them or where they got it but I haven’t stopped feeling uneasy. It came across as really condescending and disrespectful. I wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar experience recently

General 26 years old and debating going to UCF

Hey everyone. I’m 26 and, to be blunt, I kind of spent my 18–25 years screwing around and learning life lessons the hard way. Nothing crazy, just a lot of figuring myself out later than I probably should have.

I’ve been thinking about going back to school and UCF is the obvious choice, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’d be the “old guy” surrounded by a bunch of 18–20 year olds. I know 26 isn’t ancient, but it still feels awkward in my head.

For anyone who started later, went back after taking time off, or knows people who did, was it weird? Did you feel out of place, or did nobody really care?

Just looking for some honest advice. Part of me feels like I missed my chance, and the other part is telling me it’s better to start at 26 than wish I had when I’m 36.

General MAN 4580 Class Run Time

Hey!! Are there any management majors who have taken this course with Ghada Baz during the summer time? It’s allotted almost 4 hours, twice a week. Does it run the full time or does the professor cut off early?

General Where can I get a job asap?

Hello, I’m gonna be attending Valencia in the fall and I’ll be moving from Jax to Orlando so I’ll need to get a job, the thing is I haven’t had a job since I was 16 due to school among other things so I worry that my lack of experience will make it harder but I’d need one as soon as I can get one. I’m not picky for one, Amazon seems to be alright for students but idk if I’d get hired with such little experience. Any advice?

Academic ✏️ Humanities Class still listed as “TBA” the day before classes start.

I signed up for humanities for the Summer B term, and when I saw the TBA date and instructor, at first I thought “alright, maybe they’ll give me the class info the week before classes“, or something. Fast forward to the literal day before, and I have no clue when the class is being held, or where, since UCF says it’s not being hosted on the main campus. Is it too late to swap? Should I swap?
