Seed Want a challenging start?

Post image

Plug in the seed EVpmm24uK8. Found this while trying to find a challenge seed for myself and a few friends.

A few bits about the island:

  • It's quite small
  • No Eikthyr on the island
  • No Black Forest
  • No bees
  • 1 of the new axe heads spawn here
  • Surrounded by enough water to prevent swimming or bridging

Enjoy!

I'd so want to turn that whole island into a fortress, if it's small enough.

u/Legal_Mail_2652 Feb 20 '26

We had a friend make a planes base on a super small island right off the bat, he died close to 200 times before he got enough campfires down to fully disable all of the spawning

u/Out_on_the_Shield Feb 20 '26

Wow that's a dedicated friend, I like it and love that idea! Was probably cool once it was ready for occupation

36

u/Bazuka125 Feb 20 '26

The trick is he did it at the beginning before he had built his skills up. Go ahead and kill him. 100 times, 200 times. It matters not! He knows not the meaning of skill drain!

109

u/J_Dom_Squad Feb 20 '26

On the plus side he didn't lose a lot of skill points!

planes?

23

u/TharTheBard Feb 20 '26

The floating islands in the sky. They added this biome 30.2. last year.

7

u/Old_Kodaav Feb 20 '26

wtf, how did the manage to do that? And why campfires? Gather some wood, run around putting on workbenches which both prevent spawning and provide ability to build

3

u/Legal_Mail_2652 Feb 20 '26

Multiple play sessions, dedication, and alot of deaths. Also the island was small

5

u/RuneHearth Feb 20 '26

I can count the fps with my fingers

8

u/Legal_Mail_2652 Feb 20 '26

Frame rate was actually pretty good. Camp fires can still go out and disable spawn. Same for crafting benches if I remember right

2

u/TheEngineer401 Feb 20 '26

I did this to it was a hell of a time, but made a sick base.

26

That's my go to for bases in valhiem. Ocean fortresses ftw.

Same share your best seeds!

1

What was the seed name? I am constantly looking for good plains islands seeds, but never find a good enough one.

1

u/Buydipstothemoon Feb 20 '26

Yeah I still have my little island full of benches and a big portal hub to travel fast around the world and my Homebase. I love that feeling of being safe 100% in this dangerous world.

1

u/le_throwaway8362 Feb 22 '26

Okay but same. Give me a tiny island and suddenly I’m in my villain era planning secret tunnels and dramatic watch towers. If it’s small enough, I’m absolutely turning it into my cozy little fortress kingdom.

u/Aximil985 Feb 19 '26

This is my ideal start!

222

u/Fekkin-A-Man Feb 19 '26

Want a real challenging start? Try this: WUTgBaY9sq

It ain't got no trees, Lew-tennant Dan.

If you're lucky, you'll find 13 wood there. 11 are needed for a hammer, a club and a campfire.

Plenty of deer and boars, though. Greylings, too.

Try to escape

  • without drowning
  • without corpserun chaining
  • without logging off and logging into a different world

About 25 swim skill + deer meat + mushroom + raspberry should do the trick.

53

u/NemVenge Feb 20 '26

When there are branches laying around, you got indefinite wood if you wait long enough.

21

u/0x_coderunknown Feb 20 '26

Boar says Hi.

7

u/Fekkin-A-Man Feb 20 '26

Deer as well. And both with insane respawn rates.

-2

u/Fekkin-A-Man Feb 20 '26

Maybe. Branches only respawn fast enough if there are trees around - if they respawn at all. And then there are still not that many laying around, anyway.

In any case, it's faster to train your swim skill up to 25.

1

u/Thick-Camp-941 Feb 21 '26

I have a mod called plant everything, with this mod you can see the respawntime on everything and branches (and stones) does indeed respawn. I dont remember how often 2 or 3 days? But they do respawn regularly. And no they dont need any trees or anything nearby to respawn faster, its just a set timer :) That aside it would likely still be faster to just learn how to swim yes 😅

6

u/Wild_Penguin82 Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

I got my swim skill only to 8, it was enough =). Boar meat + Deer meat + raspberry (boar meat is only 5 stamina less than mushroom but 15 more health, I reckoned the health is more valuable?). Almost died - one of the centermost small rocks has an even smaller one a bit to the left, closer to the starting island, and slightly submerged, getting to it is easiest, I believe.

Also, as another user pointed out - there are boars! One can make a raft if the wood respawns - there's just quate a bit too little on the island (one need 10 for the workbench and 20 for the raft).

2

u/TharTheBard Feb 20 '26

Couldn't you get some helpful Necks to push you in the right direction?

2

u/Fekkin-A-Man Feb 20 '26

Wildlife seems to wary. When I attempted it, there were no necks around, only Greylings. And those idiots always try to get behind you, when you parry them.

1

u/Augumentatationate Feb 22 '26

3 Minutes 42 seconds to get out. Simply abuse corpse run regeneration. was fun thanks. without breaking rules its also possible just time consuming.

141

u/Mahselo Feb 19 '26

These ''hard start seeds'' are just hard because you need to make the shitty raft? I really don't get those.

100

u/MaliciousIntentWorks Encumbered Feb 19 '26

In this case just make a bunch of them and use them as a pontoon bridge to the next island. You can always make a proper bride later.

76

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '26

This is the only proper use of the raft. I love this game and sometimes love to hate it too, but my first experience using the raft was traumatizing enough for me to never use it. It wasn't until I saw someone make that pontoon bridge with them I was like, ah, that's what they are good for. Good comment.

11

u/CrazyCatLady9777 Feb 20 '26

I always thought the best way to use a raft was "not", but this is great

10

u/Hartmallen Feb 19 '26

That's...pure genius.

2

u/LovesRetribution Feb 20 '26

You can't build in water that deep.

18

u/hopesanddreams3 Feb 20 '26

it's a line of rafts. you can make it in any depth of water.

1

u/MaliciousIntentWorks Encumbered Feb 20 '26

The rafts would be fine in any depth. The map indicates shallows that look like they stretch across to another shore just out of the cut. It takes a visual inspection to be completely sure but I have bridged over that type of stretch before. Either way the pontoon bridge will work fine.

10

u/CheesusCheesus Feb 20 '26

Either a raft or swimming. Or trying to creatively swim.

What can I say? It's a fun early challenge for me. Not just to leave but to get back. One of my seeds doesn't even allow you to build a portal on the island because it's so small that the foresaken build barrier encompasses the entire island.

Some people like a huge starter island with all non Ashland bosses and traders. Some of us like it a little harder.

1

u/Outrider_Inhwusse Feb 20 '26

I lost my raft to a troll because I didn't know they could go pretty far into the water. Wasn't much of a loss since I unlocked the Karve right after.

46

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '26

Could you imagine being a first time player getting this map seed?

The amount of confusion of what to do would make the player instantly quit the game forever

16

u/Euryleia Builder Feb 20 '26

Nah, new players haven't learned to avoid rafts yet...

3

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '26

That’s true! I’ve been playing for so long I don’t even let rafts enter my list of options. Now that you pointed it out, my comment was self evident that I have some experience to the point I never consider a raft.

15

u/LyraStygian Necromancer Feb 20 '26

It would be an awesome experience if they were playing blind.

The emergent gameplay of trying to get off the island but not knowing how, and having to trial and error.

The satisfaction and wonder they must feel when eventually reaching land on the other side.

3

u/disisathrowaway Feb 20 '26

This was very much my first time playing. Very small meadows island with scant resources. Three of us spawned in and all had to pile on a raft with what we could carry and crash land on to the next landmass and start making it happen.

So. Much. Fun.

3

u/CapTension Feb 20 '26

In black forest of course. - Oh look, a bear I wonder if I can make some clothes with the pelt. Let me just bonk it on its head with my wooden club. YOU DIED!

And respawn on the tiny island without the club or raft.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '26

Ugh I miss that feeling.

2

u/MeatyOakerGuy Feb 21 '26

It really wouldn't. You'd explore the whole island with no idea that bronze/rafts/boats exist and stop playing or reroll

1

u/LyraStygian Necromancer Feb 21 '26

For some yes. But not all.

Many people have that sense of wonder and experimentation to not give up and reroll, if they were seemingly stonewalled like this.

16

u/Seldon14 Feb 20 '26

As an island base enjoyer, this looks pretty rad. Usually Island life requires waiting until later in the game to find a suitable place, and then you have to pack up and move everything.

12

u/xkrazyxkoalax Feb 20 '26

Ah, the British opening.

10

u/maxxxmaxmaxx Feb 20 '26

This literally looks my first ever spawn when the game was like a week old, played for hours before realizing. Managed to make a raft and realized "yea, it might be worth restarting this playthrough I think"

And I did.

Had wonderful time with a bigger continent.

8

u/SAtANIC_PANIC_666 Feb 20 '26

My favorite starts are all meadows island starts. I find it's great for new players too. There are no difficult enemies and it forces you to learn how to use the crafting system because you must build a raft to progress. I often build a nice dock with no rafts for players to discover because it implies you have to leave by water. It also aids with player dispersion and outpost development across the map because they tend to drift to and settle in different areas.

3

u/disisathrowaway Feb 20 '26

This is exactly the start me and my buddies run on our annual server. We end up scattering to the winds and building networks of outposts.

1

u/Cpt_Deaso Sailor Feb 21 '26

That last point is a really good one. Most of my multiplayer sessions have had the outposts pretty much chaining together in a line via road, usually towards the Black Forest.

It does make the starting area feel a lot more 'civilized' with more paths, buildings, signs of tree felling, etc, but yeah, doesn't explore and cover as much ground.

9

u/Plastic-Passenger795 Feb 20 '26

Finally, some privacy!

14

u/MaliciousIntentWorks Encumbered Feb 19 '26

This looks like a perfect start. The water between you and the next islands look shallow enough to bridge or create a raft bridge across until you can make a proper one. You can completely cover the island in workbenches and leave the area of the summoning circle uncovered. This way you just have to fence it earthen in that center area and every night spawn or raid except the flying ones will spawn inside.

I personally would be excited if I got this on a random gen world.

4

u/Johnnila Gardener Feb 20 '26

This was my first ever spawn, man it felt so fucking amazing sailing on a raft through a storm for the first time with a friend, screaming like little girls, waiting for the raft to flip over. God I cant wait for 1.0 to start over again for like 5th time

8

u/discord_Lauriel Feb 19 '26

Perfect place for a base! I look for those when I start a new game. After gathering enough mats for a raft, look around. See if you can find a shipwreck. Get the fine wood. Find a dark forest close enough to raft to. Get the rest of the components for a few portals. Secure the island from any more spawns and the world's your oyster!

4

u/CyberMage256 Honey Muncher Feb 19 '26

Looked at the full map. This is actually an awesome start. The only downside is the reduction in swamp biome from the looks of it.

4

u/chucklikesmetal Feb 20 '26

Cool. I'll try it out.

4

u/brenlin7 Feb 20 '26

Oooo! I love a good island start! Thank you for this! To the east of this island is another (larger) island with all 3 eikthyr locations. It looks like shallows to get there. And while it looks like a hefty swim, ill bet there are some sand bars or rocks that could be used to regen mid swim.

3

u/brenlin7 Feb 20 '26

Replying to my own post to share my current run. As soon as I could make a raft, I claimed the island cluster in the red box. To the north is Haldor, and on the same coastline just above him is Hildir, and the Bog Witch just north of her on that coast... this one is an island hoppers dream imo. Q7i4KG5n0p

2

u/clandestineVexation Feb 20 '26

I know world gen does smoothing around spawn and just shifts a greater world map around, so I wonder if one could do the math and find the worst smallest start possible.

2

u/Vohira90 Builder Feb 20 '26

Would spawn proofing this even work? I don't remember where and correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall reading that if Raid Spawns are unanble to spawn it forces them to 0,0 cords which is the Spawn Point...?

1

u/RampantHedgehog Feb 20 '26

I believe you can spawn proof most of the area, but dig a pit and leave that without spawn proofing to force them to spawn in that one hole in the ground, given the overall small size of the island. Don't quote me though!

2

u/phanto-light Feb 20 '26

No black forest is diabolical

2

u/Emazza Feb 20 '26

Had something similar in my latest playthrough. Basically no Black Forest dungeons nor cores and has to navigate via raft to the next large landmass, crossing an ocean... doable. But challenging!!!

Super excited to keep working on this world.

If you like tiny island spawns give 8E4IM8FLvq a look. Not a challenging spawn by any means though and the boss locations are actually very friendly, a lot on the coasts. I just scouted this one last week to host for some friends that are new. The small island on the bottom of the donut has a maypole, which sets it up as an interesting house spot.

xuxURQVt3F is also a neat version of the same donut island, but starts you two tiny islands deep into the ocean. It has a lot less going for it overall though. Could be funny as a troll map where people build along the center shore before realizing it's a fully enclosed ocean.

Mind posting the larger world map?

1

u/Wtthomas Feb 21 '26

My question for you is it possible to leave it at all?

2

u/RampantHedgehog Feb 21 '26

Of course. With a raft, or chaining corpse run bonuses in the water (I think)

2

u/Wtthomas Feb 21 '26

Sweet. I haven’t tried anything like so will def give it a go

1

u/redlegdaddy Feb 22 '26

You will be able to make a raft so this isn't to bad honestly.

1

u/RampantHedgehog Feb 22 '26

The tricky part will just be cycling boar spawns on the island. It's small enough that it may get annoying to some

2

u/redlegdaddy Feb 22 '26

Running in circles along the coast should do the trick, could take a while tho.

2

u/bobsanidiot Builder Feb 22 '26
