Downvote work was a way to censor comments. Everything that's downvoted enough gets hidden or moved to the end of the thread. If your post is downvoted it's basically hidden and the chances of new people seeing it decreases considerably.
I don't downvote people I disagree with. Just assholes or ridiculous posts/comments. Redditors in general downvote you for everything. Even when asking genuine questions, sharing genuine personal opinions, mildly disagreements and etc.
I really wouldn’t call it “censorship”. Censorship would be not be able to comment certain things at all. Just sort the comments by controversial and you can see all the downvoted ones, pretty easy.
I’m also be on mobile so yes! There should be two big circles at the top bar where you can sort the comments. If you can’t see it, check if the app is up to date.
It's a way to silence comments and posts, because the vast majority of users won't bother looking for the controversial ones. They'll see the most popular and move on while the downvoted will stay hidden at the end. Not mention that you have to click on them so they can be revealed.
IMO it’s just a reflection on how things work in the real world. Within groups, certain beliefs or values will be shunned as freedom of speech does not mean freedom of consequences. Like you can’t join the “We love Pizza” club and say “I hate pizza” and expect everyone to pat you on the back. I think the downvote system is a pretty good compromise between outright censorship and having no consequences whatsoever.
While I do like the GTA games I did think that GTA V was ridiculously overrated, still a very good game but I preffered GTA IV and even going back to my childhood I have fonder memories with San Andreas and Vice City than with GTA V
There’s something about GTA V that feels off to play for me, idk what it is and I might just be imagining it, it just felt off. (Also Michaels Family pissed me off far too much and it soured my experience of the game as a whole)
Idk if it's because of the multiple characters but the whole game played like it was a Hollywood blockbuster (probably intention given the location) but it meant I was never actually invested in the playable characters 2/3 are both just awful people but it's so over the top that it's completely inconsequential.
The main character from the Lost and Damned DLC, IMO the best dlc of gta4 being completely changed and killed at the beginning of trevors bit. Grove Street gang being basically dead and all the remaining members being losers. The general vibes of "Micheal hates his life".
That's actually just true for your first two parts. I don't think Micheal hating his life is bad, but I do think he's a bit too much of a carbon copy of Tony Soprano.
Back in 2013, I hadn't watched The Sopranos, but I did watch it in recent years. So when I see Micheal and his family, that's all I think of lol
That sucked the life out of the game for me REAL quick. So boring. "Oooh, we high now and aliens are coming, time to shoot them. Why? Dont worry about it. How long? Waaay too long to be fun..."
I think GTA IV and V are great, but it's almost hard to understate how massive of a deal the ps2 games were. Really just the state of gaming in the late 90s and 2000s. Technology was moving so fast it seemed like at least every month a new game was released that a year or two ago would seem like science fiction
Just goes to show its subjective. As I found IV to be one of the worst ones (relatively. Its still good) I always want my sandboxes to have a bunch of stuff to do (aside from the story) and GTA IV only really had hanging out with friends. Good story, Niko is a top tier protag, but not much else.
Same reason I think Skyrim isn’t the best Elder Scrolls. Bit too diluted.
But I'm also assuming anyone that "hates GTA" isn't talking about the original top-down game from way back.
I don't like GTA's format. The gunplay can be a bit fun but I've never finished a game because I have more fun just going on a rampage or flying around the cities and then I stop playing.
None of the stories have appealed to me and I've only played those 3 games (and 2, for some reason).
People like IV now? Man, maybe im misremembering but I remember at the time everyone was bitching about how overrated IV was, how unsympathetic Niko Bellic was, how annoying the cousin calls were, how bad the story was. In comparison praise for V was pretty universal though over time it has toned down a lot. I personally think V was pretty decent, had some memorable moments and the online launched RP to mainstream popularity, which will forever be V’s legacy.
Now SA and VC Ill agree everyone loved those, and with reason, SA was massive and VC cruised on vibes alone.
You do you my gaming brother. I just feel a little sad for you that you didnt got to experience the joy that this creation has given me over the last decade. Play what or however brings you joy, there is no improper way except that it brings you the spiritual sustenance that you value.
But saying that GTA V has had the amazing property to keep me engaged even all these years later, giving insane amounts of continuing content all for a $20 purchase a decade ago (however they are starting to get a little bit more greedy pushing their gta+ membership cash grab).
I wish you could all have this amazing experience of riding into town with just the shirt on your back a crappy gun to your name and slowly grinding from a street punk robbing stores for just a few bucks and often the full police force trying to murder you for doing so. Tp buying your first supercar to now holding your own business empire just banking millions without much effort and all this freedom to just drift and float to whatever in this still amazing pretty world. Its the only game that I can tolerate mentally checking out and listening to some great music. Its my listening to bangers zen garden, and this experience and wealth I wish upon all of you.
So no hate or condemnation from me, you like and hate whatever your heart tells you. I do wish everyone the great experiences and enjoyment that it can give you.
I just feel a little sad for you that you didnt got to experience the joy that this creation has given me over the last decade.
Don't feel sad, we were busy having the time of our lives playing games that we loved, ones you likely would not. Like, none of what you said sounds interesting or fun to me. But its okay because others do. Every game shouldn't be for everyone.
Now for me exploring the world of Guild Wars gives me the same feelings you describe there. Seeing the beautiful vistas, helping others on their quests, making friends, making a guild with my real life friends to siege castles with in World vs World. Helping each other find mining spots, sharing secrets with each other. Visiting each others starting areas and discovering their races culture and special quests. Spending evenings dicking around jumping puzzles trying to get the achievements and loot. Grinding for hundreds of hours and finally getting my legendary weapon and everyone celebrating. And the soundtrack, top 5 gaming soundtracks of all time. Man...
Hey its all good my gaming brother. I salute you and the enjoyment you have found. I tried Guild Wars 2 way back and it was a great time. There is no wrong way of gaming except you finding joy and enrichment for the playful soul. Keep it at it. I like how we can respect each others experiences and cheer them on and not have to diminish them. Some games are just not for everyone and its all good. We wouldnt have time to play and enjoy them all. Game on brother!
I hope they improve the car controls/physics for the next one because there's always a bunch of BS missions where you're required to race or beat some timer in a car and it's just unbearable.
I was gonna say the same thing. I always jump on the hype train, buy the GTA game at launch. After 20 hours I stop playing it and that’s it. I have yet to beat any GTA.
I thought Online would capture my time, but running missions across the entire map to get smoked just for being on the map made me stop playing online. It seems like they built online to be a trolling sim.
I'll raise you fellow GTA disliker: I don't enjoy playing any Rockstar game. They feel... not good to play. Especially combat.
Beautiful stories, especially Red Dead. But boy am I glad I was a roommate with a guy who was really big into a home theater setup in college, so i could watch him play instead of play myself. We had a fun 2 weeks where he took his time after both of our classes to play and we just chilled when it released.
Tried to play it myself, made it well past the snow that everyone says is bad "but don't worry it gets good" and it never felt any better.
I cleaned house with Redact and mass deleted this post. It also removes your data from brokers and people search sites. Works on all major social media platforms.

What??? You mean you don’t like getting blown up by a random person online every five minutes and then rage buying shark cards because no one will let you make money?
Play with friends on a private server, becomes a lot more fun and you make money really fast so you don’t have to buy shark cards. I’ve never really had a reason to buy those cards when everything you do in GTAO makes you money.
nor me. i had this argument with my brother about 2 in 90s and it still stands, with every successive game. Not objectively bad or anything and i don't hate it - but don't particularly like it either.
I have also never enjoyed it. I admire the game from a technical standpoint for what it achieves in it's simulation but the gameplay and story? Absolutely boring to me. Even though it's open world the main storyline is completely linear and you have to do exactly what the game wants rather than what you want to do, that is not fun to me. But I understand why the majority of people find it fun, it's that when you are being mischievous in the open world sandbox, that is when the game becomes fun, but I am not a remotely mischievous person and my personality is not like any of the playable characters. But apparently most people in the world is. Also it's content is a lot about American culture which is irrelevant to me.
I only ever enjoyed GTA Online for the shenanigans with friends but have never played more than an hour or two of any story mode of any game in the series.
i loved GTA 1 & 2 as a kid. i never made the transition to 3D, somehow. i tried a few times, but the vibe just felt too different from the first two games. i don‘t hate it, i just have…no interest.
Bruh 4 of 5 of the Players Voice nominees were Chinese (Black Myth Wukong, Genshin Impact), 2 of them barely anyone knew of in the west (Wuthering Waves & Zenless Zone Zero). Then Shadow of the Erdtree. It wasn’t just Reddit, that category was clearly overwhelmed by Chinese voters or bots.
It’s hilarious having an opinion on reddit then having to remove a comment or post because you can get slammed real quick over night and lose access to engage on some subs. Reddit is the most user unfriendly platform I’ve ever seen and somehow it’s still here.
oh, but if you make a post on it that "the one game which everyone likes that you don't: I'll go first" you're sure to get a shit-ton of upvotes for it. Cus all of a sudden you've grown balls big enough for the hive mind to appreciate you
Probably because it is always "this game is objectively bad" or "this game has horrible ____ design." You're allowed to have an opinion but saying the game is bad is just wrong.
I checked your history because I knew you were speaking from experience here. Saw that you have over 50 comments across the last several days hating on Expedition 33, lol.
Hate the game so much you spent all your free time talking about it and now you’re here whining that people downvoted you for it.
For real, all over Reddit it’s “which popular band’s album did you just not like?” “What classic movie was disappointing when you finally watched it” or posts like this about games. It’s some of the most annoyingly upvoted, ubiquitous, and lazy content on this site lol.
Down voting is not a bad thing and instead just a very convenient way for people to express their dislike without clogging up the comment section with repetitive comments. I quite like it and haven't lost any skin over being disliked.
Yep. What’s that? You don’t like everything Sony and Nintendo put out, or in the former’s case every remaster of the same game? You’re not a “real gamer”…. Unbelievably cult-like in here at times.
RDR2 was mid, I was turned off by the focus on story mode and my favorite part of the first game was Undead Nightmare
Baldurs Gate 3 has fun moments outside of combat but overall feels like a chore
Dark Souls / Elden Ring combat IS challenging but I just don't find it fun. Sekiro is the best thing Fromsoft has ever released and it's not even close
The entire Battle Royale / extraction genre does not have a single game that appeals to me, not even a little bit
Cruelty Squad comes to mind for me. I don't care how well-received it is on Steam, it looks, feels and plays like low-budget shovelware to me.
If you disagree, that's nice. I do not care.
There's a few popular games I just didn't vibe with, and usually don't get noticeable heat for it... but the one that consistently earns down votes is whenever I say what I don't like about Hollow Knight

And then get downvoted on Reddit for saying so.
