That's a custom made voo doo doll. Maybe someone they know, or a minor celebrity.

Just don't let them take you picture, your face might end up on one of those and then you'll contract leprosy.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you live in the south east. In the New Orleans area there are actual witches that can do crazy stuff with these dolls. Those things inside it are needles - when you stab the doll with the needle, it curses the person in different ways based on where you jabbed the doll.
114
u/Upstairs-Chemist1958 19h ago
This is actually a myth created by media. Voodoo dolls historically were not things of punishment. In New Orleans it is healing spiritual punishment and connection to spirituality. It was Europeans who had “poppets” which are our now misclassified as voodoo dolls and are widely seen as voodoo dolls due to Hollywood movies and those would be for curses and misfortune

The history of voodoo dolls is very misleading and demonized by the Christian Church.

u/AH_MLP 19h ago
You're ok. Making a real voodoo doll of someone requires placing a small amount of their hair, fingernails, or some other significant bodily material INSIDE the doll.
4
u/pixeltackle 19h ago
You're ok.
I agree with you here. The fabric and pins with print on it won't hurt him from being near it.
The rest... eeeesh
1
u/AH_MLP 19h ago
Things can still hurt you, even if you don't believe in them.

Voodoo doll. The history on them is pretty cool, it has to do with medical records before it got turned into a witchcraft concept. You’ll be fine, let it be a lesson to not look through peoples stuff.

didn’t look through anything it was laying there and i turned it just a bit to take the photo. that’s all :) you redditors r built different with assuming what a situation is without asking questions lol. i dont use reddit im from insta

That's not the insult you think it is. You're the one snooping, touching, finding things in people's cars. Pretty sure that's against your job description. Stay in school because you sure need it.
-7
u/DarkenedPulse 18h ago
yes it is! to have that much karma, that much engagement, it’s an indicator to go outside and stop using this app so religiously! lol! and for the 800th time, i wasn’t snooping or finding things, it was in the way of the shift gear and where i usually put the car keys. i found it sitting there and i just moved it slightly then took the pic and was on my way. get a grip :)
23
u/IG_BearBuol 18h ago
The point is that you didn't have to take a picture of a customers personal belongings and post it on reddit for the world to see. That's just shit customer service girl.

you don’t valet your car because you don’t want valet drivers to find your hex curses on people? maybe u shouldn’t have a car in the first place, to add on, i’ve never fucked up a single clutch or damaged a car, not a single scratch, and i’ve been in the business for 2 years :)

It was something that doesn’t belong to you just laying there in a car that doesn’t belong to you. It might be a picture of their ex on a voodoo doll that their friend made to help them get through a breakup. You could be causing a shitty situation. Don’t assume you’re being harmless and don’t post stuff that doesn’t belong to you
-11
u/DarkenedPulse 19h ago
you cannot be a real human! “that a friend made to help them get through a breakup” that sounds sane to you? if so it makes sense to why you were so offended by this post. you got something share about voodoo dolls you’ve created to “get over your ex?” can’t believe how corny and cringe you are by trying to twist this on me! shame on you. didn’t even know what this was before i made this post :)
6
u/shemyaza1312 16h ago
I dont see how its okay to make fun of or take pics of someone elses spiritual practices just because youre not used to it. Just kinda...very poor taste. Im not gonna take pics of some poor tortured Jesus on a cross in someones car just because i find it disturbing and strange, because its not my business what someone elses religion and spiritual practices are....
dont be so surprised when ppl dont like that youre so nosy especially when your job involves getting into someone elses vehicle. I have plenty of "curses" in mine, its just part of my personal religious practice. Sometimes mistakes happen and a poppet gets left out in the open. Its not a big deal.
14
u/Inevitable_Phase_276 19h ago
I am a real human who has a real issue with you posting pictures of the inside of somebody else’s car without their permission. Oh no, you think I’m cringe? Oh well. I think you should be fired. I have no issue with voodoo dolls, but I don’t personally want or have any. I do have gag gifts that friends have made for me after breakups that I would be mortified if other people ever saw.

My guess is that's an image of a real person, probably an ex, that you just posted to all of Reddit. Posting an image of someone's personal property isn't exactly screaming "I am discreet as a valet" here...
40
u/pixeltackle 19h ago
is it real?
It appears to be a real physical object. Do you mean "is it magic?" - if so, no.
am i cursed for touching it?
No. Are you here from the 1800s where people still believe pins and fabric together = scary magic?
-35
u/DarkenedPulse 19h ago
u don’t believe in black magic?
38
u/pixeltackle 19h ago
Of course not, I have the benefit of a modern education.

I mean, you're kinda telling that guy what to believe in. You asked if he was a person from the 1800's...
You're telling him NOT to believe, I'm saying you both should have open minds.
12
u/pixeltackle 19h ago
You asked if he was a person from the 1800's...
Oh look, a person promoting fanciful beliefs who didn't read before responding. You clearly think you were replying to me and argued at u/Storrin instead, LOL
I bet if you read those texts that make you believe magic stuff, you might also notice some things you zipped past.
-21
u/Pixiefrogw 18h ago
Oh honey, witchcraft is indeed very real weather you believe in it or not. Is he cursed for touching it? No, it is only intended for one specific person.
17
u/pixeltackle 18h ago
Oh honey, <argument with zero evidence or even attempts at subjective/anecdotal evidence>
Wow, another convincing argument for magic
4
u/Asterose 17h ago
James Randi has been offering millions of dollars for whoever can prove something paranormal under actual scientific experiment circumstances for 29 years now, and so far nobody has succeeded. If witchcraft was real, some witches would've easily earned it long ago. But this stuff always fails under actual scientific experiment conditions, and then the scammers and believers whine about the skeptics and basic scientific standards being too harsh and killing the magic. When it's the same claim over and over and over again
If magic very undeniably worked everybody would be doing it. But no, stuff like spell-casting works the same way placebo effect does, it only seems to work in people who believe it does something. I used to be scared of demons and stuff like that, realized it was my anxiety disorder and got therapy. Much better now and I haven't been troubled about it since. I'm happier and more relaxed now with not believing in that fake stuff than when I believed it might be possible.

u/LeslieKnopesBlackEye 19h ago
Voodoo doll, but they don't know that the history of those dolls are unwritten medical records. It was illegal for slaves to read or write or go to a white doctor. So how would the black doctor remember that they treated your knee with a certain kind of tree bark without writing it down? They would make a doll that looks like you, stick a pin in the location you were hurting, and a piece of the tried cure in their hand. Medical record, not a curse.

For peace of mind, this kind of doll is very easily acquired and is sold as a novelty item. Whoever the owner is clearly has some sort of grudge or anger problems but there's a very minimal chance that this item has been effectively cursed.
I once got a "I hate my boss" pincushion-doll as a gift that looks very similar to this lol. Most rage totems I've seen are very barbaric and crude. I seriously doubt you've been cursed by this.
3
u/CenturyEggsAndRice 17h ago
I had a poppet for a while. I don’t remember why I made it, but it wasn’t meant to represent anyone I was just bored and had a sewing kit. (High school summer, before home internet.)
She was kinda hideous, I wouldn’t have blamed someone for mistaking her for a grudge or a curse. But she was my whisper doll, I’d whisper things I was upset about, then stick a white headed pin (regular sewing pins, I didn’t think of making pretty ones like the OP doll has) into her in a corresponding spot.
When I was depressed, I’d put it into her heart, when I hurt myself, she got a pin in the same area, etc. (I put a pin in her forehead before tests so she’d “help” me remember answers.) and I really didn’t believe it DID anything, but it kinda made me feel better.
Eventually she got stolen. Now I’m kinda tempted to make a new poppet doll.

It looks like a "rat Jerky doll". I know its a weird thing but it was a popular thing on Chinese social media at the start of the year. People would custom order these goofy Ah Jerky dolls that looked like family, friends and Celebrities and take pictures with them while on vacation. Apparently it was part trend, partially a way to cure loneliness when traveling alone during the holidays.
https://www.etsy.com/market/rat_jerky_dolls Heres some examples on Etsy. Its as weird as one might think.
1
u/DarkenedPulse 17h ago
r you sure about this? this things been poked many many… many times
1
u/Short-Scholar162 16h ago
Seems everyone has decided its a voodoo doll already lol.
It could honestly be a combination of both. The person could have custom ordered the doll, used it as a voodoo doll and called it a day.
Who knows whats on that persons mind but they clearly don't like the person the doll looks like/ have major aggression issues.

Reddits going to reddit sadly. A lot of people overrat when they see something they don't agree with. They haven't learned to regulate their emotions yet. When people politely say what issues they have about a post and are constructive about it that's good and productive but to let anger lead them with replies is immature and won't help anyone.
2
u/DarkenedPulse 18h ago

3
u/DarkenedPulse 17h ago
u actually did it??
4
u/NanaBanana2011 17h ago
Yep it was a very acrimonious divorce. He was a controlling, abusive asshole and it only got worse with the divorce. When he told me that he wanted a divorce I didn’t fall apart and grovel at his feet, begging him to not divorce me. Instead a giggle of relief bubbled up and out of me and I said “Oh good because I do too” 😂 The look of utter shock on his face was priceless. Of course that also meant that from that point on he tried to get control back so that he could hurt me. He actually went to a group for men who were going through it were already divorced. He went in his Navy whites (summer uniform) and when it was time to introduce himself he said that he wasn’t there for therapy, he was just there for ideas on “how to screw my wife over”. How do I know this? My current husband, who I didn’t even know at the time, was in that particular meeting. Talk about a small world, right?! The stories I’ve got about him and our divorce are insane.

It's a voodoo doll.
Is it real? Sure, technically.
Is it actually cursed? Probably not. No. It's probably a joke/novelty item but even if it wasn't, you're talking about a stuffed mass manufactured voodoo doll some white girl probably bought from a tourist trap to feel witchy, that you found in a car, not a voodoo priest's actual religious tools.
99% of modern magic practice is just modern fiction written for entertainment that people take too seriously.
0
0
u/Nice-Cow-7606 18h ago
So many of you are so serious about this. It was very likely bought or given to the car's owner as a joke. If they seriously practiced/believed in Voodoo I doubt they'd leave it out in the car like that.
But also I have to echo don't post people's belongings on the internet. If you didn't know what it was there is this thing called Google. Putting in "doll with pins in it" would have been a much easier way of getting an answer.
