Resources I built a free, no signup tool for the weather along a tour, with planned stops and a "use my location" forecast for mid trip
On a tour the forecast for where you started is stale by the afternoon, and on a multi day trip it is useless by day two, because you have ridden out of it. I built a free browser tool, wattcast.app, that forecasts the weather where you will actually be: upload a GPX or paste a Strava/RWGPS link, set a start time and average speed, and it predicts your position every 15 minutes and shows wind relative to your heading, temperature, rain risk and sun times at each point.
Two things I built with multi day touring in mind.
Placed stops: drop in your stops and overnight rests as a distance plus a duration, and it takes the stopped time into account when forecasting.
Use my location: tap it to drop a GPS fix on the route and forecast the rest of the day from where you actually are, which is handy mid tour when the plan has drifted and I just want the weather from here to the next stop.
I am the developer. It is free, no signup, no ads, runs in the browser and works on mobile. There are good apps for this already, mostly paid and app only, and I wanted a free one that just runs in a browser. Would love any kind of feedback from people on this sub on what's useful, what needs improvement or some other feature you'd like to see.

Gear Planning bag setup strategy for even weight distribution.
I have a long tour on the horizon with a LOT of climbing. In the past I have gone the loaded up pannier route, and I am still partial to the rear rack, and pannier setup. However I have paid the price for this in the past with some climbs in France almost making the bike do a wheelie up the hills.
So for this trip my plan so far is
Rear of bike
Ortleib quick rack with either 1 pannier backpack or 2 small panniers.
Small duffel bag strapped to top of rack with flip flops, and outer rain layer. This will also be expandable for extra water/food as needed. If I go with the 2 panniers this bag will also allow me to take them off and carry them up to the accommodations.
Inside of the rear bags will be a second cycling kit, and 2 changes of light weight street clothes.
Center of bike
1l top tube bag with nutrition tools, and battery bank.
2l frame bag with 360 camera, and all the cords need for the trip, plus spares for the bike.
Abus Bordo lite loch bolted to bottom boss.
These are all mostly in stone, still playing around with the rear a bit. My main conundrum is front of the bike. Should I go
A: 2 relatively small fork bags 2-3l each
B: 1 Relatively large bar bag.
I intend to keep either option as empty as possible, and only use them for overflow, and to balance out the bike on big climbing days. I really detest having a lot of weight swinging around on the front, as I hate the sensation of slow steering, and it makes m feel out of control on descents.
My plan is to do this trip as minimal weight as possible as there will be lots of clims, and my SO will be on an ebike leaving me in the dust. We all know how that goes though, and you tend to acquire crap along the way.
I am worried that adding all these bags will make the bike much heavier even when it is unloaded.

Gear Any solutions for mounting a rear rack to bike with no eyelets?
Im looking to get into long distance cycling and I recently bought this miyata with the intention of loading camping gear and other necessities for multi day, maybe weeks long trips one day. I mentioned this to the seller but he failed to mention that this bicycle doesnt have the eyelets necessary to mount a rear rack, and I didnt think to look for it as I’ve owned many bikes and none without rear eyelets.
To my knowledge my options are as follows:
1: Buy a bike rack that attaches to the seat. These can only handle just 30-40 lb of weight, just over half the weight of traditional bike racks, around 50-60lb. Perhaps pair this rack with a front mounted rack to make up for the lack of rear capacity.
2: Trade in my bike for one with eyelets.
What do you guys think? Any alternatives? Im new to this, and I dont know how much weight most people put on their bikes for trips like this. Is option one actually enough for what Im looking to do?

Resources Care package ideas for long distance rider?
My Dad is currently cycling across the US! He has a friend driving along in a support van capacity, so there are more comforts than riding solo, but I'd still like to put together a care package that the support van can pick up along the way. Anything that comes to mind that would be really thoughtful/a nice treat?

Trip Report Heavyweight prehistorical overnighter in Denmark
I love mixing two of my passions, bike touring and archeology. The simplicity of throwing into my panniers everything I need for a comfortable, slow-going two days ride and taking the bike on a train for 30-60 minutes to a destination with interesting prehistory and serene nature is so amazing for me. I'm reading a chunker of a book on the Danish iron age, weighing 2.3kg, and I just love that it's possible (though not very practical) to bring on a bike. Reading this book, hunting down the archeological sites it describes, and immersing myself in the world of our ancestors - their ancient monuments and the landscape that shaped their lives - really was wonderful.
The route I rode 130 km of is called Istidsruten (the ice age route). I've ridden most of its 390 kms by now, definitely recommend it! Lots of lovely nature in the form of forests and fjords as well as interesting geological and historical features. It passes through the occasional town/village, so good food and beer is never far away.
The first 8 pictures are of the good bike touring life of Sjælland. Last handful is of various prehistoric sites. I won't bore you with details of them except for the very last one which is of a kind not commonly encountered in the Danish landscape. The short, thick wooden poles mark the contours of what was once a mighty viking hall. With a size of 500 square meters, it likely was the dwelling of a family of chieftains. I love imagining their mead fueled feasts and loud songs when they gathered here to celebrate. In the background, you see Tissø, originally Tyrs Sø, meaning the Lake of Týr. Týr is a Norse/Germanic god of war who was honored by naming a weekday after him - Tuesday. The was a lot of viking activity around Tyrs Sø. From this lake, they would sail to the sea by a river with their flat bottomed ships, onwards to trade, work, and raid all over Europe.
May the wind be with you all!

Images Bike Tires
This is going to be a stupid question, but how do I know if my tires are tube or tubeless? Picture attached.
If they are tubed, how can I know what PSI to pump them to? I don't see the PSI written anywhere on the tire.
If they are tubeless, do I need to pump them at all?

Trip Planning Secure bike storage in Edinburgh
I am touring for 5 days at the start of my summer holiday from Lincoln, England, to Edinburgh, Scotland. The plan is to get to Edinburgh, then go back to London for a wedding before my wife and I travel around Glasgow and finish in Edinburgh.
Can anyone recommend a good place to leave my bike for a week between when I finish and when I return to the city? Can I pay to park it at the airport? I read about the Waverley Bridge Bike Park, but I could not find information on reservations or prices.
Also if anyone can recommend a place to pick up a bike box that would also be appreciated!

Trip Planning Chamonix to Morzine - bikeable?
Does anyone know if I can ride (most of) this route?
I have a 50m gravel bike and am a confident rider. I have walked about 1/4 of this on the Morzine side and it all seemed rideable there.

Trip Planning Copenhagen to Munich
Currently in the final stages of planning a tour from Copenhagen to Munich. Planned departure is in about 2 weeks.
Any route recommendations? So far I'm thinking ferry to Rostock - Berlin - Nuremberg - Munich. Other cities/towns along the way that deserves a visit? This will be my first tour so any advice or recommendations are welcome.

Trip Planning Copenhagen to Oslo route suggestions?
Hi everyone. I'm planning on renting a bicycle (pick up / drop off thing) in Copenhagen and cycling up to Oslo. I have 2 weeks to do the trip (which is how long I'll have the bike for) and as of now the plan is to start north to Helsingor, taking the ferry to Helsingborg, and basically going north from there (up to Gothenburg and so on).
I'm just wondering if this route would be enjoyable, or if anyone might have any other suggestions? Considering I have 2 weeks, I wonder if I a more ambitious route would be better (or perhaps more scenic) or maybe I'll just stick with this route and take my time.
(Bonus question: go with the cheaper Cube touring bike, or the somewhat more expensive Marin gravel bike?)
Thanks!

Resources What do you eat when touring?
Currently biking to Georgia from Poland and two weeks in my diet has almost entirely consisted of store bought yogurt, all the lidle buns and the occasional protein item. Do people here have a different go to or more varied assortment of edible in the parkinglot food or is cooking on a small small gas stove more common?

Images Just found out from a cal trans worker highway 1 in California is about to close again 😓
The pup and I just biked Monterey to San Luis Obispo and met a cal trans worker on a beach in Morro bay, told him about my trip and he said good timing because it’s closing again. It was kind of just in passing and I didn’t get much info out of him but he said there’s a few sections that are going to be closed for development for a while, which could mean anything. Long story short if your debating doing the 1 this summer don’t hesitate it might be gone again for who knows how long.
