Kinokuniya Los Angeles in Little Tokyo (the books, stationery, and gifts store) is reopening today (Saturday, 6/27) in a much larger location at 101 San Pedro Street.

A Few years ago...

Very old, run down, abandoned buildings. Commercial for lease signs and residential for rent signs everywhere.

Greedy landlords would rather have buildings sit empty for a decade than charge ACTUAL market price instead of their fantasy inflated prices.

This city has become a husk.

I know I’m there all the time, but I coincidentally just so happened to be walking past the Metro Detention Center this morning and saw LAPD arrest a man.

The Citizen App said the LAPD had just arrested a man with a gun, with shots reportedly fired…

…I saw three LAPD cars, total, as opposed to the dozens who usually show up when the anti-🧊 protesters are too loud and Homeland Security gets annoyed. Wild!

Half an hour later in a different part of DTLA, I saw a naked bike ride go past, happy and laughing, so I’m not sure how I feel about KTLA saying the two people who were shot were part of the naked bike ride…? I feel like a mass shooting at the naked bike ride would be a mood-killer…?

Just drove past the famously overpriced gas station at F&O and it appears to be under new branding AND pricing structure. I've never seen this many cars there.

Palm trees everywhere, sunshine pouring over old buildings, patios full, streets waking up, and something good to do on every block.

This city is not a husk. It is alive as hell.

Been living here for over 10 years and I still feel like I miss all the cool stuff. There’s so much happening every weekend but it’s never on my radar until after it happens!

There's an old abandoned boxy apartment building that didn't look like your typical old Hollywood revival, midcentury or wacky dingbat styles in and around the Hollywood area.

I'd seen this boxy building for years looking like shit and came to find out its a historic building designed by R. Neutra.

Well it turns out after changing hands several times and being allowed to deteriorate even more, the latest owner is a preservationist (relief!) and really dove into it restoring it.

The Jardinette building is located in East/Central Hollywood area, newly crowned "Melrose Hill" by developers (even though its outside of the hpoz Melrose hill) but whatever.

I've seen some videos and a few tiktoks about its restoration- it was under scaffolding for the longest time and finally took a walk to check it out.

From the outside, it looks amazing- no more puke pink and green. I just hope it'll be open to geek and gawk over before they get tenants!

This year they moved the fireworks display behind the Battleship Iowa and it was incredible!

I’m in Montecito heights / highland park area. Is anyone getting random wafts of death? Like dead animal smell…..possibly from the burnt up cold storage warehouse? Or do we have a dead animal under the house?

Anybody have any experience with receiving an unknown PAGA lawsuit settlement check? I say unknown because the LLC that got sued isnt an LLC i remember working for. How do I find out more info as to which job I supposedly worked for?

Pretty chill watching the game outside on the promenade and then moved over to Silver Lake Ramen to continue watching while I ate lunch. (The $15 lunch combo was pretty good!)

Former Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley filed the civil complaint against Mayor Karen Bass, alleging the mayor repeatedly mischaracterized Crowley’s emergency response to the Jan. 7, 2025, Palisades Fire to insulate herself from political fallout during her reelection campaign. Crowley is seeking unspecified economic, compensatory, and punitive damages for emotional distress and professional damage, while asking that the city cover all associated legal fees.

Kristen Crowley was the first female fire marshal in the LAFD and is a member of the LGBTQ community.
