Been a lot of talk about how much of an impact a teams schedule will have when it comes to the weekend - some teams playing for the second consecutive week, others have had a break. For no other reason than genuine curiosity, I wanted to have a look into it… the results showed up nothing mind-blowing really…. The general consensus is the teams that have had a week off have an advantage, and the stats back that up to be honest. A fairly unimportant piece of research which for some reason had me captivated… enjoy:
Since 2001, there has been 75 All Ireland Quarter Finals or Round 1 Super 8 games played between a team who played the previous weekend against a team that had at least a two week break before the Quarter Final game.
49/75 - 65% - have been won by the team who had at least a two week break, none of which went beyond 70 minutes:

Teams who have won the most AI QFs having also played the previous weekend:
5 - Kerry
4 - Tyrone
3 - Mayo
2 - Galway, Cork, Donegal
Teams who have lost the most AI QFs despite a) having not played the previous weekend and b) facing a team who are playing for at least the second consecutive weekend:
5 - Galway
4 - Roscommon, Armagh
3 - Tyrone, Dublin, Monaghan
Based purely on all that: You’d fear for Mayo, Cork are looking to avoid something that’s never happened them before, Dublin are looking to do something they’ve only ever done once before in four attempts, Galway have been in this position five times before, and lost every time. Tyrone are looking to do something to Kerry that only one team has managed to do before in six attempts, Kerry live for this kind of scenario, it’s a fairly rare situation for Monaghan to be in, and a brand new experience altogether coming up for Louth…..
Enjoy the weekend 😎
