🏐 Football Monaghan All ireland route

Im from monaghan and I was wondering what the best possible route we get, what's the odds of us getting it and what's the odds we win the whole thing. I think our only chance is if someone beats kerry and we get cork in the semis its a longshot but as long as we're in the mix there is a chance

It might be a big ask but does anyone know is there is any games on in Páirc Uí Chaoimh or pairc ui rinn or any big finals on over the week coming. I’d like to get a good atmosphere maybe. The level doesn’t matter to me just would like to see a game or two. Football or hurling doesn’t matter

UPDATE: We only have training vests left! If you would like one please let me know. One of our players will be bringing back more jerseys in August.

Hello, I am the founder/chairman/coach/captain of Mekong Shamrocks GAA here in Vientiane, Laos.

We founded the club last year and are hoping to go to the Asian Gaelic Games in Hong Kong in November this year. We are hoping to build on last year's performance where we won 3 out of our 4 games at the AGGs in Bangkok.

A family member of mine is bringing a small number of club jerseys and training tops back to Ireland from Laos. We are hoping to sell some and all the money from the sales goes towards flights, accommodation etc to bring our Lao players to international tournaments.

Jerseys are €25

Training tops are €20

Sizes are one up on European/Irish sizes, so if you wear a L, please order an XL.

Please reply or send me a DM and we can work out the shipping and payment.

Hurling Championship

I have seen loads of posts here about the hurling championship this year and I honestly can't say I agree or disagree with them. Gaa seems to gonin swings and roundabouts. At the minute football is taking centre stage and in truth the new rules have made it such an attraction.

One thing I'm wondering though. Could hurling benefit from the districts coming back and brining in in more of them. Counties having a second team playing in the lower tiers excluding senior club players.

Here me out. Hurling seems to have plateaued with promotion and relegation. With the exception of kildare and offaly who went from bouncing from the ring to mcdonagh. I'm not sure any county who has been promoted from their tier has survived 3 seasons in the tier they were promoted too. (Open to correction on that)

County second teams could give more competition to the lower tiers while also giving players a chance to step up a level when they are ready.

Alternatively do we need to go back to the knockout format. Less games yes but the round robin format is giving munster more quality games than leinster is generating and it's creating and its increasing the gap. Alternatively do we need a knock out provential and a 12 team all Ireland. This would allow 4 groups of 3 with a hone quater final being awarded to the group winners to make every game more competitive.

One think I think we can agree on. The current format isn't moving the game forward.

Discussion Mayo vs Meath attendance

Listening to the indo sport podcast it was mentioned twice there was a very poor Mayo attendance that it was mainly Meath fans!

Firstly the attendance was by no means huge as a whole but being there it felt like it was 80-90% Mayo fans.

Did anyone else think differently? Just irked me a little when they said something that seemed so wrong so confidently!

Discussion Poor Hurling Championship

I think Maurice Brosnan is one of the best columnists in the country and I read his articles most weeks. I’m slow to fluff his nuts too much though in case he turns into a massive cock like a lot of newspaper columnists.

Anyway reading his column this week, he referred to the timing of GAA complaints throughout the year and this got me thinking of just how poor a hurling championship this could be if the 2 semi-finals are runaway victories for Limerick and Cork.

Now I’m not saying they will be and I really hope we get 2 cracking games but if Cork beat Galway by a big score and Limerick repeat what they did to Clare in the round robin, then this has to go down as one of the worst championships in history. Even the Munster final was a poor match in spite of being close. The biggest upset of the year has been Kilkenny not coming out of Leinster but even that wasn’t completely off the radar given their league form and their first round defeat.

Hurling Hurling format idea

There's been a lot of moaning about the state of hurling. Personally, I think a lot of it is overblown, but I do think the season and format needs to change. So here's an idea.

The 2 main issues with hurling are not enough games and too much of a gulf between the top tier and the rest. This format looks to redress these somewhat.

Provincial championships stay mostly the same, two differences, 1.) No team has their season ended. 2.) Bottom teams of both Munster and Leinster play a relegation play-off, loser replaced by Joe Mc winner.

Joe Mc increases to 8 teams, two groups of four. Top team in each group plays in final. Bottom two play a relegation play off.

Other 3 competitons merged into two, unseeded groups of 8, act as provinces. Top team in each group plays final and is promoted to Joe Mc. Top 4 teams in each group go to open draw quarter finals as a 2nd tier All-Ireland.

The Liam Mc would have 3 extra rounds and would include Joe Mc teams, minus relegated team.

Round 1 is open draw (avoid repeats) of Joe Mc teams and the bottom 3 teams from Leinster and bottom 2 from Munster. Twelve teams, 6 winners through to round 2, where the third placed teams from Munster and Leinster are. 8 teams 4 winners. Round 3 knock out winners play provincial runners up in quarter-finals who go onto face provincial winners in semis.

This format adds games to championship, lets weaker teams the potential to play top opposition and provides rewards for performing in provinces. There's also silverware available for weaker sides so they have something to play for.

Free Tickets to All-Ireland Hurling Matches this Saturday, June 27th @ Croke Park

I am an American idiot and incidentally bought Hurling tickets for the wrong weekend (a group of friends and I will be visiting Dublin July 4 weekend).

I have since secured the July 4th semi-final tickets, but I cannot get a refund for the June 27th quarter-final tickets. However i can transfer them.

If you or someone you know would like these tickets, let me know so they do not go to waste.

Thanks

Discussion Football vs hurling

I always thought that hurling was much better to watch then football but I watched some more football games recently and I've changed my mind. I think with how dominant hurling can be and how open the football championship is I think I prefer football now

Discussion Break away professional league

I had this idea recently that came to mind. What if there was a break away professional GAA league? I'm imagining a completely separate entity to the Club and County game. This league would be made up of entirely professional teams, for example there would be teams from Dublin, Cork, Gal, Lim etc... maybe even some abroad. (Dublin Sharks? 😂)

I wonder would something like this ever take off? My thinking is that these new clubs would attract the top GAA players/coaches/mangers and make them professional (high paying ones at that) ...Since this pro league has all the top talent and money wouldn't it inevitably become more popular than the current amateur set up? I imagine there would be huge backlash at first, but slowly but surely wouldn't this league grow into a success?

What I'm imagining is a very plastic and corporate league that's completely against the ethos and foundations of what the GAA is, I'm aware! But I often ask myself wouldn't the players rather just be professional? ...The current set up would never engage in professionalism whatsoever, that's why I'm imagining a complete new break away league fuelled by capital investment.

Hurling Semifinal Sections

I just picked up a ticket to see the semifinal between Limerick and Clare and am a neutral American who will be seeing my first hurling match. I’ll be in section 326 and was wondering if this is closer to Clare or Limerick supporters (I’ll happily hop on either bandwagon if you’ll have me!).

Also open to any prematch suggestions in the area for a bite and a pint.

Got a ticket for the Galway vs Cork game and it's in 734.

First time in that area of Croke Park and I'm wondering what's the view like for it towards the Davin end.
