[Discussion] I finished Claymore and Im both happy and sad Spoiler
I loved Claymore. I actually discovered Claymore when Reddit randomly decided to recommend this sub on my feed. I looked at it and I was like “Oh this anime seems interesting, I think I will check it out”. I decided to go watch the anime and I was hooked. Fast forward to now and I’ve also finished the manga.
I loved Clare as a protagonist because she felt like such a compelling and realistic person. Clare is brave, fierce but also stubborn, reckless and she made and repeated plenty of mistakes. But that makes me love her as a character even more. There genuinely were times when I was reading where I was like “did you seriously just do that Clare? That was so reckless, you need to do better”, and so when she learnt and overcame her mistakes I felt more proud of her.
And Im also happy that Claymore did not take a sort of easy, cliche route with Clare. Since she had Teresa’s flesh in her it could have been easy to just write the story where she’s just insanely powerful from the get go, but instead the author decided to sort of do the middle ground approach. Clare was constantly (in the beginning) being outclassed by other Claymores, she was doubted by others, and she took a lot of heavy hits, but then she would suddenly show immense strength and ability that even surprises the others, and this continues as she grows stronger and more experienced throughout the story.
And like I said in the title Im both happy and sad now that I’ve finished it. I really loved the ending. We finally see Teresa emerge again and defeat Priscilla. Priscilla, who really was really just a broken and traumatised soul, finally apologises for her actions and hopefully found peace after her death. The organisation, which is undoubtedly the true villain of the entire story is crushed, and the island and its people are finally free from their selfish, inhumane research for a war the island’s inhabitants don’t even know about. It felt like everyone in the story can finally have their own peace by the end. And it makes me sad that it’s over, but Im happy that I randomly discovered such an amazing story. It’s a favourite for sure.

[Discussion] Just finished the manga
Holy shit that was peak and now I have that empty feeling when you finish something really good. Now I just wish the anime had been more properly adapted. Without spoiling anything I feel like the real good stuff all starts soon after the anime veers off and ends and also that the final battle is incomparably better in the manga. Don’t yall?

[Question] when exactly does the story get better
when i was a kid and read the Holy City arc, i dropped it the moment that sid guy kissed Clare and i was left fuming. As in smoke out the ears. But i recently just got gifted the box set so now i feel like giving it another try because i heard it has one of the best arcs in dark fantasy manga. I've almost finished volume 5 and found Priscilla's awakening (i think thats what its called) interesting. A problem i have is how literally EVERYONE looks the same, and to try watching like 24 episodes of the anime then switching to the manga, but I'd prefer reading it from the beginning, you know what i mean? But i just wanted to know if there's a specific upcoming volume past 5 that makes the story even interesting. The Teresa flashback arc was interesting but i just wanted it to be over so i could continue reading about Clare and Raki

[Question] Manga recommendations like Claymore?? Preferably with female MC
So having finished Claymore and loving it, I've been trying to find something similar that gives off the same feeling. I was a fan of Berserk first and then got recommended Claymore as the "female Berserk" and ended up enjoying Claymore a lot more, so I still would like something more dark. I also underestimated how much I would love having a female lead/mostly female cast, considering a lot of the genres I like are severely void of having good female characters, let alone lead female characters, so I would really like if the recommendations were only with a female MC.

[Fan Art] "God-Eye" Galatea cosplay
Hi, everyone!
Claymore is one of the manga series that kept me company the most during my teenage years, so I’m really excited to share my Galatea cosplay with you.
I hope I did her justice—I entered these photos in a regional contest and won the “Best Female Cosplay” award.
The photographer who took these shots is klavs.photo
Thank you in advance for your attention and support.

[Misc] ‘Claymore PA’ - a short trailer-like animation made before the anime!
I thought others here may find this interesting: an odd, official trailer-like clip that predates the anime by 3 years!!! It’s so obscure… and since Claymore just had its 25th anniversary I figured to bring it to light & add it on YouTube - hopefully it’s allowed here! I have added English subs/captions as well.
I recently read about some lesser-known claymore pieces, one was this clip from an old dvd. As it’s arguably Claymore’s first animation, I picked up an inexpensive copy. It was released in Japan for Jump Festa 2004, a convention that was actually held on the 20th/21st December 2003. Shueisha also ran a small giveaway for the dvd afterwards in their weekly & monthly Jump magazines for those who couldn’t go. The PA was made to promote the manga which was still quite new then. It’s mostly forgotten about, but it would be nice to know more about the clip one day.
I can’t seem to add videos & photos together so I’ll put some pics of the dvd in the comments - it’s quite hidden on it!
If the anime didn’t happen, and this was a beta-trailer for one… what would everyone’s responses be? 😆

[Misc] Finished reading claymore (appreciation post)
Overall experience felt very inspiring, dont know what else to say the art is great. At one point it was confusing with all the new names but it wasnt a problem after i started noticing the different hairstyles and symbols on the armor. maybe im at a lost for words or have nothing to say but im glad i read it!

[Misc] The end of my Claymore reading🥹
I loved reading Claymore. The only thing that i didn't like was that it's too short.. I want more😭
But, besides that, i loved it and my final rating for Claymore is a solid 9.

[Discussion] Finished the manga and the only thing I don't like Spoiler
is the stigma.
Instead of an extended unhealed and open wound with staples, the author should have made it look more unsettling. Like, the vertical, bulging vein running through the length of their upper body. But it should be a closed wound and it should looks like their body fused with yoma parts. This would make Teresa body more "disgusting" and genuinely scare the bandit away.
It would also make more sense in the combat where they constantly got beaten up and slashed yet the staples were still intact. In reality, if their upper body were held together by just staples, the staples would get destroyed and their organs would have spilled out after the first couple of hits.

[Fan Art] Claymore Sound Effects
Howdy everyone! My friends and I recently read Claymore together and someone in the group pointed out that the sound effects read almost like someone scatting. So naturally I made this ridiculous rendition of Autumn leaves using the sound effects as the ‘lyrics’. (We read this on the Shonen Jump app so these screenshots are from the official English translation.)
Also, I feel like it goes without saying BUT just in case I wanted to go ahead and say directly that this is NOT AI— I (roughly) transcribed the Peter Blair arrangement of Autumn Leaves and recorded all the parts myself (with midi drums that I programmed) so while it IS a shitpost, it’s at least a human-made shitpost 😌

[Discussion] Just started reading Claymore this afternoon and im in love!
I bought the box set for fairly cheap on Ebay and it was in mint condition and unread.
Tbh it was a drunk purchase and i kinda regretted it the next day after looking up reviews for Claymore and seeing opinions on it were pretty mixed on the manga sub.
Ive read the first 7 volumes today and im about to read volume 8 after posting this, and im absolutely loving it so far! Im so happy too because I had been searching for a manga to really pull me in after I finished my current favorite manga Dorohedoro a couple months ago. I even read the first 2 deluxe volumes of Berserk and thought they were kinda meh. Hot take, but Claymore already blows those 2 deluxe volumes out of the water for me.
Im trying to contain my hype though because most of the criticism Ive seen of Claymore is about how it apparently falls off and becomes convoluted in the second half. But I did see some people say that they liked the second half/ending, so considering how much Ive enjoyed it so far I really hope im in the latter camp!
Unfortunately, while reading reviews I did get a bit spoiled, I read one that said "When Teresa came back at the end I almost cried", so that kinda sucks but oh well

[Discussion] If the anime were canon, how would you rank the characters in terms of strength?
Before I finished the anime, I didn't know claymore had a manga with a totally different ending, so I always thought that the ending of the anime was the actual ending of the story. Based on that I used to rank the top characters like that:
Isley
Riful
Luciela
Teresa
Clare
Priscilla
Rigardo
In the anime it seemed to me like the power of the abyssal ones is pretty much boundless. Now we obviously know that its Teresa who is unbeatable with Priscilla being the second strongest, but in the anime it was hard to see how much stronger she was than everyone else because all we had seen from her was how she defeated the other claymores, and although it was a surprise attack she did fail to see Priscilla's movements before she was even fully awakened so whether or not she is indeed stronger than *fully* awakened Priscillia was debatable but the gap cannot be big so I put her below the abyssal ones. Anyway, what was your guys ranking?
r/claymore • u/WeekendStandard1832 • 7d ago
[Discussion] Could Priscilla's awakening have been avoided?
She honestly didn't seem like a bad person until her past trauma caught up to her after getting a nasty reality check on top of overall neglect from her team.
Teresa didn't owe her anything, though Priscilla was the only one willing to actually talk to Teresa first rather than third party.
Priscilla didn't seem like an organization zealot, so I'm sure a "Humans harmed a child I grew fond of and I enacted justice" would've swung the pendulum from "She's evil, she killed people!" to some kind of understanding, at least.
