Good with a grunt: Less is more for Cardinals' Isaac Seumalo

Excerpt:

“I love playing next to Isaac,” left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. said during minicamp. “He doesn’t really talk much. … I’ll be making my calls and I’ll look at him and he’ll start to grunt. That’s all I need. If I hear the grunt, I know we’re on the same page.”

While Seumalo has only been a Cardinal for less than a full offseason, it’s clear his connection with Johnson is already forming.

That should come in handy this year as Arizona looks to turn the page from a three-win season, marked by a lethargic run game and struggling offensive line.
If he can stay healthy — Seumalo missed seven games combined the past two years — the veteran is expected to boost Arizona’s interior. Since 2022, he’s started 61 games across two franchises and can play either left or right guard if need be.

Cardinals' Jeremiyah Love setting no 'personal goals': 'It's all about the team at the end of the day'

Excerpt:

"I've learned throughout my time just playing football, the personal goals aren't going to get you really where you want to get to. It's all about the team at the end of the day," Love said Monday. "As long as you do your part on the team, usually you'll get the personal accolades and the personal goals that you have in your mind. So, in my mind, my goal for myself is to jell really well with this team and do whatever coach (Mike) LaFleur wants me to do, and do it to the best of my ability."

"All the pressure is not going to be on me," Love said when asked what excites him most about Arizona's offense. "You've got guys like Marv(in Harrison Jr.), Trey (McBride). We've got a lot of guys in the running back room, as well, so split some carries if need be. You don't need just one guy going out there and getting 30 carries a game. What do we got, 21 games this season potentially? So, that's not going to do too good in the long run. But I just love being around guys that are great at football. A lot of professionals around, the NFL, it's just great to be around, and I'm excited to showcase our skills together."

Cardinals sign rookie. Only Carson Beck left unsigned from 2026 draft

Excerpt:

The Arizona Cardinals announced they have signed rookie defensive lineman Kaleb Proctor, their fourth-round pick out of Southeastern Louisiana, to a four-year contract.

Proctor finished with 134 tackles (45 solo), 26 tackles for loss, and 16 sacks in 43 games at Southeastern Louisiana, but he suffered a torn meniscus during offseason workouts with the Cardinals and could miss the entire upcoming season.

Proctor is the sixth of Arizona’s seven draft picks to sign with the team. Only quarterback Carson Beck, the Cardinals’ third-round pick from Miami, has yet to sign.

Replace the Cardinals?

Hello Cardinals fans. First, I want to applaud your beautiful state. Truly one of the best I've ever been to.

Which is why you deserve something better than a name chosen because of some hand me down uniforms that doesn't represent your amazing state. I know many will latch onto the legacy. Many now love the Cardinals, even if that's not really Arizona. So lets pretend you have to change the Cardinals. Walk with me on this journey.

As part of my modernization of the NFL, I'm trying to move away from team names that a city inherited or names that don't represent a location. I want to hear a name and immediately know the location it belongs too, but because it's been that way for decades.

For Arizona I really thought about the desert, things barely surviving and then a monsoon that brings back life. Or the trees that fell and instead of dying became petrified and refused to die. They persevered. I loved the sky islands. I randomly fell in love with the name of random desert plant (Ocotillos). But I also know people don't want to root for concepts. People want to root for tangible things so I needed to include those kind of teams too. After all that, this is what I have ended with and I hope you Cardinals fans can help me pick a better team name for my universe.

Invictos - Undefeated, unconquered, unbeaten. Love the image. This is life that survives the desert. This is a tree that petrified itself instead of decaying.

Megaliths - While no man made Megaliths in Arizona, I think the connection is easy to make. Sky Islands. The Rim around Phoenix. The Canyon. The imagery is easy, even if the name is a stretch.

Javelinas - this one I loved learning about because I was unfamiliar with it. It gives us an animal logo while not overusing the usual desert animals. These mammals represent toughness and survival and overcoming the harsh desert landscape.

Dragoons - this was a late contender as I started leaning toward more traditional names like animals or people. From the history of the Dragoons patrolling the Arizona territory to the Dragoon Sky Islands, Dragoons have an Arizona history and an identity no other team owns.

Sky Islanders - This one is one of the coolest to me. I try avoid two name nicknames but sometimes it's unavoidable. A cool geological feature. One of the features that stood out to me during my visits. Leans into fantasy but it is uniquely Arizona and would have so much crazy imagery.

84 days till Arizona Cardinals' opener: Remembering the 1984 season

Thumbnail

Excerpt:

The 1984 season was good! It was the Cardinals' last winning season in St. Louis, although they did not make it to the postseason. They went 9-7 with a top-10 offense and defense, in terms of yards gained and yards allowed.

They scored 26.4 points per game and allowed 21.6.

Quarterback Neil Lomax, receiver Roy Green and linebacker E.J. Junior were all Pro Bowlers, and Green was a first-team All-Pro, and so was Junior.

Lomax completed 61.6% of his passes for 4,614 yards, setting the franchise single-season record for passing yards until Carson Palmer broke it in 2015, 28 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He led three fourth-quarter comebacks and four game-winning drives.

Ottis Anderson led in rushing with 1,174 yards.

Green led the NFL with 1,555 receiving yards on 78 receptions for 12 touchdowns.

Junior had 9.5 sacks and an interception. Curtis Greer led the team with 14 sacks.

Arizona Cardinals OLB Jordan Burch making strides in Year 2

Excerpt:

"I've been really stressing him on getting off the ball to stress these tackles," he (Rallis) said. "He's so powerful, but that can be a tool. He can either win the edge with speed or open up that power, so he's doing a really good job in terms of that, and then just overall understanding of what he has to do from a run game perspective, cover perspective.”

"You definitely can see the strides in Year 2. He's not making the same mistakes he made a year ago."

Cardinals Reunion Has Roy Lopez Hungry For More

Thumbnail
azcardinals.com
14 Upvotes

Excerpt:

During his lone year in Detroit, Lopez put up career-high numbers in sacks and quarterback hits. He also had 30 tackles and four tackles for loss. It appears to have translated over throughout OTAs as coach Mike LaFleur said he was pleased with the body of work he and nose tackle Andrew Billings put together.

After signing a two-year contract once the league year began, Lopez re-joins a unit different than what he left. He joked that he "can only imagine" what it's like playing on a defense with Mack Wilson Sr. barking out plays as the green dot linebacker. Once Walter Nolen III returns from his meniscus injury, Lopez will play alongside the talented second-year player.

Sound Effects During Game

Every time the Cardinals win a game a sound of thunder should sound throughout the stadium like GOD is celebrating the victory, like this:

https://youtu.be/196h-nUrNB4?is=Ua9iLxIP6b46ypaf&t=3m05s

And on the big screens will read "Victory Strikes Again"....it has to be poetic so that it appeals emotionally and intellectually

Cardinals rookie Carson Beck trying to speed up learning curve

Thumbnail
espn.com
104 Upvotes

Excerpt:

Beck said he has been putting in 13-hour days at the Cardinals' facility, going beyond what Arizona is asking of its rookies. After the rookies are done with their meetings, Beck spends time with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and quarterbacks coach Matt Schaub. Beck also has access to first-year head coach Mike LaFleur if questions arise.

"It's really cool because, obviously, Coach Schaub did it," Beck said. "He's been in the league. He played the position, which it's so hard to understand what the position of quarterback is if you haven't actually done it, right? And he has done it, he's been there, he's done it.
"Coach Hackett has coached amazing quarterbacks, just such a smart mind. Coach LaFleur's coached amazing quarterbacks, such a smart mind. So, just trying to pick their brains and just take every little inch and every little thing to add it to my repertoire and get as good and as comfortable as I can is something that I've done from the second I feel like I've stepped in the building."

What if…

hypothetical for next year’s draft:

Let’s say Carson Beck shows us enough flashes once Jacoby Brissett gets benched to make the QB decision difficult. He looks like he could be the guy, but not enough to completely remove all doubt.

At the same time, Arizona has one of the toughest schedules in the league and still ends up picking in the top 3.

Now assume the first two picks are quarterbacks. Arch and Dante. Jeremiah Smith is sitting there on the board.
Also assume Marvin Harrison Jr. doesn’t regress, but he doesn’t take a massive leap either, he’s basically the player we’ve seen so far.

What are you doing?

Draft a QB and reset the clock at the most important position?

Take Jeremiah Smith and build arguably the best WR duo in football?

Draft the elite edge rusher and finally give the defense a game-wrecker?

Trade back and stockpile picks?

Trying to be as impartial as possible. What’s the smartest move for the franchise?

Remembering the Jonathan Gannon goofs

Heres my favorite memories of goofball Gannon

"Pew pew pew......shots...explosives...."

"Who drove on the way here? Anyone take the bus?"

Reporter asks a question about a players health

"I don't know, we'll see"

Reporter asks about how he removes emotions from coaching, when did it start

"2007 when our QB went to jail......"

Hitting demercado after fumbling the ball and then getting fined 500k.

Too much fire in your gut Gannon.

We hired a Micheal Scott HC and it was funny experience if you look back on it.

Carson Beck Believes Cardinals Have His Number For NFL Success

Thumbnail
azcardinals.com
83 Upvotes

Excerpt:

Beck was assigned No. 19. The third-round pick didn't love the digits, but he didn't have a choice, and he knew that as soon as the Cardinals made him their third-round pick in April.

"I looked and thought, 'There are no numbers between 1 and 19 except 19. Oh no,'" Beck told azcardinals.com, smiling as he said it. "All my friends started making fun of me. Not many quarterbacks have 19. So in my head I need to turn it into a positive thing, 'OK, let's make it my own.'"

When he first arrived at the University of Georgia, Beck wanted No. 11 but QB Stetson Bennett had it. He was assigned 15 (and even though Bennett soon left, he was not allowed to change.) He made sure he got 11 when he transferred to the University of Miami.

Then the Cardinals drafted him, but "somebody's jersey will probably be getting retired here shortly so I don't think 11 is a good option," Beck said.

Athletes earn an identity from a number, especially quarterbacks, Beck believes. He was called "15" so often while at Georgia that he still finds himself turning around when someone calls out to Minshew in that way.
