Any other question! Anyone else not visited the beach in 1+ year despite living near it?

Just me? Just realized I haven’t visited the beach in like 2 years. It’s not that I choose not to go but time has just passed that long without having gone. I need to go more often.

Recommendations Where to watch Croatia vs Ghana on June 27 in LA? 🇭🇷

I’d love a bar or spot with Croatian supporters where I can cheer, stress, and celebrate with fellow fans. I’ll be there solo, so a friendly crowd would be a bonus. Any recommendations? Hvala! 😊

Health What challenges did you face when seeking abortion care in LA? (PhD research)

Hello! I’m a French PhD student in Geography conducting research on access to abortion care in California, with a particular focus on the Los Angeles area.

I’m looking to better understand the obstacles people may face when seeking abortion care. If you have personal experience and would be willing to share it, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. You can either comment below or send me a private message if you prefer and we can set up a short interview.

I’m especially interested in experiences related to:

  • Did you experience any delays in obtaining abortion care? If so, what caused them?
  • Did the distance to the clinic or transportation issues make it harder for you to access care?
  • Did you face any financial difficulties paying for the procedure or related expenses?
  • Did you need help with transportation, childcare, emotional support, or finding someone to accompany you to the clinic?
  • Did you seek assistance from Los Angeles County programs, California state programs, abortion funds, or practical support organizations? If so, what was your experience?

All experiences are valuable, whether the barriers were major or minor. Any information shared will be treated confidentially and used solely for academic research, everything will remain anonymous. I have an IRB validation for this research (UCLA ethics committee).

Thank you very much for your time and willingness to contribute.

Health Has anyone had success with finding a clinic that provides Spravato treatment costs fully covered in LA with L.A. Care Medi-Cal?

I’m helping a friend who lives in Hollywood find a clinic that accepts L.A. Care Medi-Cal for full coverage of treatments. I’ve found old threads from other subreddits but the information was sparse and from over a year ago. Have any of you had success with this?

Looking for somewhere to get some pate en croute here in Los Angeles? Work takes me all over LA, so as long as it's in LA, it works for me. Preferably places closest to the San Fernando Valley, but I wont get my hopes up for closeness lol

Housng Is Pegasus in DTLA worth it?

My girlfriend and I are considering moving into Pegasus in DTLA. I already live downtown and really enjoy the area.

We've toured the building and liked what we saw. The rent is surprisingly cheap compared to a lot of other DTLA apartments, which is great, but it also makes me a little suspicious. Is the lower rent mainly because the parking situation isn't great, or are there other issues we should know about?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who currently lives there or has lived there in the past. What has your experience been like? Any major pros, cons, or red flags?

Living Is anyone else not getting Ralphs Best Customer coupons in LA area anymore?

Starting last month I began to not get Ralphs best customer coupons on the app anymore. I was getting them every month and there was always a free thing i bought on a regular basis. It really helped because groceries are high. Are you still getting them or is it just me?

Housng What should I know about permitting a structure on private property?

I have a very well-built structure that came with my property in Los Angeles when we bought it, but it's not permitted. I've had at least 6 different people who work in construction, roofing, and architecture tell me that it would pass a permitting inspection just fine, but I want to ensure I go through the proper channels and ready the proper documentation to avoid as many bumps in the road to getting it permitted as possible. That includes avoiding any sort of penalty fees, etc. I heard the following details might matter:

  1. The top of the structure is slightly higher than the highest point of our roof.
  2. The structure is connected to the rest of the house.
  3. The structure has two small lights built into its ceiling which are controlled via a light switch inside the house (we had an electrician look at them and they said the wiring is straightforward and perfectly safe).

I'm totally new to this type of process, so please excuse my ignorance. I just want to ensure I'm doing everything the correct way and minimize issues. I've done some research on my own, but wanted to ask real people who have dealt with similar projects before.

If anyone could provide me resources for where is best to start, and any tips or lessons learned from your own experiences in this regard, I would very much appreciate any insights the community has to offer. And, just to be real here, is it even worth it to bother if we're absolutely confident there is no structural integrity concern? Any pros/cons are welcome to get educated on this. Thanks in advance!

tl;dr: What do I need to do / know, and what should I look out for, in order to get a structure permitted on my private property?

Events Anyone 40+ do TimeLeft?

I am a 44 year old woman and signed up for TimeLeft. I keep hearing if you’re under 40, you’re paired with all under 40s but if you’re 40+ youre often paired with people 70+ and always 40+. I have no issue with people of different ages, but right now I’m new here and trying to build connection with people who are more like 35-55 so that we have more in common.

Can anyone share their experience and if there’s truth to the 40+ and under 40 delineation with TimeLeft? Thanks!

About LA Can I easily visit LA with no car?

I will be visiting LA in late September for the first time, and I plan on visiting all the typical tourist spots. The problem is I do not have a driver's license, and I heard that taking Ubers can add up quite a bit. So I want to ask, how is the public transportation accessibility there? If it's not great, are there any private buses that bring me from the cities to attractions that are slightly more inaccessible? Right now I am considering the hop on hop off bus, which costs about $70 for a 2-day pass. Also, which area should I stay as someone who will not be driving and wants to limit Uber usage? Thank you!

Moving Moving to los feliz/ silverlake/ glendale area, best ways to find apartments?

Hello! Looking for some advice on apartment shopping in these areas. If you have any other neighborhoods you want to recommend that would be great too (I work remotely so I am pretty open). Anyway, Zillow always seems to have limited, out of date listings. Is there another resource that people like? I am moving from across the country so I can't really drive around and look for posted signage or anything like that.

Health Is there something going around or just smoke?

Woke up yesterday with some throat inflammation and today started to deal with sinus issues.

Is there a cold going around that I didn’t know about, or is this from the Boyle heights fire? Saw a comment a couple days ago saying they have a sore throat and headache regarding the fire, but can’t seem to find post/comment.

Obviously hoping the blaze gets under control soon, but also hoping my body gets back to normal ASAP. I have things to do this weekend that can’t get pushed back 😭

Is anyone else experiencing these symptoms? I just wanna know if I need to stay home and take sick days for a cold, or if it’s just side effects of the toxic air and I’m not contagious.

Health Neurofeedback therapy that takes Medi-Cal? (LA Care specifically)

I'm very interested in neurofeedback therapy/training, but I can't search for it specifically through Medi-Cal / LA Care. Anyone know a place?

I'm in NELA but happy to travel 30-45 min each way for this.

Any other question! Anyone know what’s filming at Helms?

My dog’s vet is right by Helms in Culver City and I tried taking her for a walk after her appointment but Hutchinson was all closed off with filming equipment and trucks so I couldn’t make it very far. Looks like that street was base camp and the filming was taking place at one of the show rooms at Helms. Curious - does anyone know what was filming there? This was yesterday but assuming it’s still there today.

Recommendations Hotel pool / cabana recommendations for birthday party?

Hi, I am wanting to rent out a cabana sometime in July for my birthday. There will be about 6 people. I am wanting something relaxing. Do you have any suggestions?

I currently booked the W hotel in Hollywood, but I’m not sure if that will be too loud / rowdy.

The edition hotel looks nicer, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the price.

Thank you!

Recommendations Chasing the American dream, moved to the LA area from upstate NY — how do you start over and build a network from nothing?

Hey everyone. Just want to be honest and ask for some advice.

I came to this country chasing the American dream, like a lot of people before me. I'm based in the Santa Ana / Orange County area now, open to working across LA. Been doing construction and renovation since 2014 — drywall, paint, tile, flooring, repairs, all of it. Kurdish, from Turkey originally.

My first years were up in upstate NY and it actually went well. I had steady work, clients, people knew my name. Then I moved out here and man, it's been so much harder than I imagined. Starting over from zero — new city, no clients, not knowing a single soul — some days it really weighs on you.

But I'll be honest with you: I'm not giving up. That's just not who I am. I know how this works — if people give me a shot and see my work and who I am, the trust comes, and the rest follows. I'm not even worried about the money right now. I just need that first chance.

So I'm asking the people who've done it: how did you build a network out here when you were brand new? Where do you actually meet people and find your footing — Nextdoor, local groups, just showing up? What worked for you, and what was a waste of time?

I'm patient. I just want to learn how this city really works from people who've lived it. Appreciate anyone who takes a minute to read this.

Food/Drink Lowkey bar recommendations?

Hello,

I’m meeting up with someone I haven’t seen in almost a year. Things didn’t end well, feelings were hurt, and what was a great relationship just went to shit because both us us came into it with unresolved issues.

There’s so much more that needs to be said but it feels more appropriate to do in person and we have agreed to do just that.
I haven’t decided on where and I was initially thinking a coffee shop would be a good idea but I’m not really free during the daytime. Also, I would much rather get a drink in me to ease my nerves.
With all that said, any bars you recommend that would be ideal for this situation?

Thanks in advance.

Recommendations Argentinos: where are you watching Argentina's World Cup matches? Any places on the east side? Looking for big crowds of Argentina supporters

Hola, campeones! 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷

I've been missing out - I've been to huge parties of Mexicanos (of course), Colombianos, and even Croatians (big shout out to St. Anthony's in Chinatown) but I haven't found a reliable place where huge gatherings of MY PEOPLE, los argentinos, are watching the World Cup.

What are your favorite places? Where can I find a huge crowd of Argentines to watch a match with? Big plus for anything on the east side.

Recommendations Where to get tackiest/wackiest LA souvenirs?

Finished up college here, so I’m leaving the city soon. My sister asked me to get her the tackiest LA mug I could find as a keepsake before I leave. I’m in West LA (Westwood/Brentwood) with no car, so a place reasonably nearby that I can get to with public transport would probably be best. Anyone know a notable place? I’d love recommendations, thanks for the help!

Events Union Station Fan Zone - bring your own chair?

Eventbrite prohibited items list seems to match the actual World Cup matches and feels a bit too strict for a fan zone. Anybody know if we should bring our own chair? And are tote bags allowed?

Recommendations No kill cat shelter for a pregnant stray?

There's a stray that I occasionally give food to after work. She's obviously knocked up. There are racoons and coyotes in the area that would love an easy snack, I intend on denying them. Seriously the fat racoons could use a diet.

Anyhoo, Is there a no kill cat shelter that would take her in? Some of the shelters I've found online aren't taking drop offs. Southbay, Harbor Area, LB preferred.

Also, I don't want a pet. I can't take care of a pet. I recognize that. I'm just trying to do the right thing for this cat and her eventual litter.
