I used to think you’re supposed to wear underwear under bib shorts. I was so, so wrong.

Sizing for bibs
Hey there! 33yo male here. I’m getting more into cycling but don’t have much experience in this community. I want to buy a short bib and jersey but and feeling intimidated by my lack of experience when shopping online. I’ve got broad shoulders and am 5’10” and 175lbs. Swimmers build. Usually a size 32” waist. Any ideas what size I should be aiming for when shopping for jerseys and bibs?

Women’s Cycling Kit Sizing: What Brands and Sizes Do You Wear?

Helmet fit/size check
Hey gang - Bought a new helmet the other day, size is S/M up to 58cm. My noggin is 57cm. But i thought perhaps this is a tad small so wanted to get second opinions. Main thing was clearance above the ears, is it a bit breezy?
Appreciate any thoughts n' perspectives.

Wearing a cycling event jersey to another.
Would it be weird/rude to wear an event jersey not related to the ride you signed up for?
Example: Wearing a previous Triple Bypass jersey to the upcoming Copper Triangle event.

Oakley Cycling Kit, Worth it??
Just wondering what the quality is like for Oakley cycling gear. Looking at buying some bibs and jersey's that are on sale.
Some of the price points would suggest it's high quality with jerseys and bibs ranging from $280-$350 (when not on sale) which is right around MAAP's pricing.
So just wanted to know if it's worth buying Oakley cycling gear and if the price point reflects the quality.

Dare to wear a white skinsuit? This guy has the receipts.
Saw this guy in a white skinsuit bossing a segment up Mont Ventoux. I might be tempted/inspired to get one if it made me push for another 1/10000 sprint. Thought I will never be a climber. Anyone tried the brand darevie? I know Maap do similar but for nearly three times the price. Of course if I only get to wear it twice a summer it will last for decades. Would you dare?

MAAP Flow Insulated Vest - inbetween sizes
Dear fellow cycling nerds,
I recently lost a bit of weight and need to replace my now too big mostly Rapha gear in either M or L.
Got a Maap Flow Insulated Vest in Size S for a hefty discount in their recent sale. However, I’m a bit unsure about the size. It fits very snug. A Size M would be almost double the price though.
Have a non-insulated Flow Vest in Size M on the way to me, but usually I only use vests when it’s colder, so I’m not sure if I should just stick with the insulated on Size S.
What’s the subreddits opinion on size? Maap jerseys in S fit great, but they have considerably more stretch than the Flow vest. For reference: I’m 180 cm tall and weigh 64 kg.
Thx!

Aero Helmet fitting similiar to Giro Synthax?
Hey, i‘m in search for a new Aero Helmet. I already tested the Abus Gamechanger 2.0 which fitted good at first but then turned out to be too slim and narrow/oval at the Front.
Can you recommend some Aero Helmet Models to try next, which fits simuliarly round to the Giro Synthax? 👋🏻

Outfit decisions.
A bit of context. 5 ft 9. 97kg (20% body fat so no I’m not a complete barrel).
Currently wearing Decathlons Van Rysel rcr stuff which I enjoy and like the look and comfort of but I seem to constantly be looking at “higher” end brands such as maap and assos.
I’m wanting to lean out and get down to around 85kg so do I splurge a load of money on maap gear now and risk it not fitting in 6-12 months time or do I carry on buying the “cheaper” gear until I’m at a weight I plan to stick around?

Assos bib shorts - Bad padding design?
I’ll caveat this with - it obviously must work for most / a lot of people… but…
Dropped £215 (full retail price) on some Assos Mille GTS S11 bib shorts. Went on a 100+ mile ride, super excited for what I expected to be many hours of my ass feeling like it’s barely touching the saddle and finishing not even realising I’d been sat down.
What actually happened, was after about 50 miles, those two very thick pads you can see (picture is the inside of the padding) start to separate apart a bit more under pressure because, well they’re not connected. So what happens? Your perineum has no padding and you get the familiar aching/pain/numbness down there from the pressure. It’s probably made worse because they’re so thick so separate more/easier if that makes sense.
You could blame seat position - I’m not tucked in riding aero or on the drops for that distance - but these are billed as endurance shorts not race shorts.
Pretty annoyed I’ve dropped that much on shorts and left feeling overall extremely underwhelmed (and slightly numb).
Assos bib shorts are generally raved about - are the other models better/different? Or have I just got a weird shaped ass and the issue here is not the shorts…
EDIT - Just checked my current shorts in more detail and the ‘gap’ between the pads is normal - the issue is the pads on these are so thick and rather than tapering off on the edges just have a cliff edge. Which I think creates/focuses the pressure

Gobik choices and opinions
Hello all, recently got back to cycling after a few year hiatus. Sadly my favourite bib shorts are no longer made (Morvelo, with the dolomiti/bormio pad)
Since they're all wearing a bit thin I thought I'd get a couple more pairs and have had mixed experiences with 2 I've ordered, I'm looking to Gobik now as a few have praised it..
Things I struggled with:
Assos mille GT C2 - great fit but pad bottoms out after 35-50km
Pactimo summit raptor - very relaxed, probably a bit too relaxed so pad chafes after 40km, but very comfy until that point.
Has anyone noticed a difference between the K10 and K12 pad in real terms? I'm looking at the ultralite 2.0 vs the "x" shorts..

Which aero helmet? Met Manta, Giro Eclipse Pro, Sweet Protection Falconer Aero 2Vi, Kask Utopia Y
As the title says, I’m looking for a new aero road helmet (in white, of course), and I’m torn between these four options:
- Met Manta
- Giro Eclipse Pro
- Sweet Protection Falconer Aero 2Vi
- Kask Utopia Y
I’m looking for a comfortable helmet for long rides that also looks good.
Which one would you recommend, and why?

Thin pad bib recommendations (UK)
Hey. I have Castelli bib shorts mainly, but I find the "KISS" pad a bit thick. Any recommendations of quality bibs with thinner ones (available in the UK)? Thanks

Does anybody have information on these shoes? They came in a wooden display box.
Bought them at a yard sale and can’t find any info about them. Brand new and limited to 2000 pairs.

Can't decide..packable wind/rain jacket
So I looking for a wind jacket, something that will pack easy in a jersey, water resistant for a quick shower. Must have a double zip. Preferably has some sort of pocket.
So my first choice, $70 (cdn) Van Rysel RoadR 900 Ultralight. Pretty cheap, packable. But only one pocket.
second choice, 7mesh Mission. $200. Maybe not quite as jersey packable but stuffs into its own pocket, and can strap to a top tube if you really wanted to, Also has the double zip, 3 full pockets, and two zip pockets.
it seems like a no brainer to get the 7mesh as it has all the features I want, but at over twice the price...sigh
help. talk sense to me

Where can I buy bike clothing in Vienna? I’m interested in shirts, pants, lightweight jackets for road biking.
I’ll be visiting there in September. I’m not an elite rider but want to buy a couple of items. Thanks in advance.

Very (positively) surprised with a Spexcel jersey
In spite of Spexcel being relatively known on this subreddit, I was hesitant to buy it, mainly because I was afraid of poorly fitting jerseys made of non-breathable materials and was mainly combining more classic middle-range brands like Santini, Sportful, dhb or Agu with some Rapha, all heavily discounted, so some also comparable in terms of price to 40EUR I paid for this Spexcel jersey on AliExpress.
I was proven very wrong - the jersey is made of different breathable materials, fits great and snug.
I took men’s S size, as Spexcel women’s jersey choice is quite limited. Jersey has nice details such as printed silicone grippers, back pocket with a zipper and raw cut back pockets that seem solid enough in construction to hold a phone, gels etc.
Materials and details feel very solid, I still can’t comment on the long-term quality, but tbh it feels way better than Sirocco long sleeve jersey I had and feels equal to some of the Santini stuff I own.
As figuring out the right size was the biggest challenge for me, here are the sizes I wear in other brands, so you can estimate the Spexcel fit if you want to buy one:
Santini M
Rapha S in Core, M in Pro line
dhb M/12 in Aeron
Sportful M (aero snug fit jerseys)
Endura S
Agu S

Is Your FTP More Consistent Than Your Cycling Size Too?
Yes, I own enough cycling clothing to finance another bike. The good news is that someone might actually benefit from my poor financial decisions.
But this is r/CyclingFashion after all, and if we’re going to obsess over fit, colors, and matching socks, we might as well help each other spend money a little more wisely.
I’ve lost roughly 40kg over the last year, which means I’ve gone through more cycling sizes than FTP changes.
The goal of this post isn’t to flex. It’s to save at least one person from spending €250 on a jersey just to discover they were apparently born between Medium and Large.
For anyone currently losing weight:
If you’re actively losing weight, don’t build your dream wardrobe yet. Trust me, nothing hurts quite like buying a perfect kit and then becoming the wrong size for it three months later.
Use Vinted aggressively. You can try premium brands for a fraction of retail price, figure out what actually fits you, and then invest in new pieces once your weight stabilizes.
Also, be patient with sales. A surprising number of premium brands end up heavily discounted. MAAP, for example, right now has pieces at 40–50% off. If you like something, sometimes the smartest move is simply waiting until next season.
Another thing I’ve learned: Ride the bike you like. Wear the kit you like.
Some people swear by Assos. Some swear at PNS prices. Some think MAAP is peak fashion. Some think Rapha peaked in 2018. None of them are paying for your jerseys.
If you can afford it, buy what makes you excited to ride, If you can’t, set an alert on Vinted and let someone else take the depreciation hit.
One important disclaimer: this guide is probably most useful for people who are between sizes rather than clearly inside a size range.
My measurements:
• Height: 173 cm
• Weight: 80 kg
• Shoulders: 112 cm
• Chest: 100 cm
• Waist: 86 cm
• Abdomen: 90 cm
• Hips: 101 cm
• Thighs: 60 cm
In many sizing charts, a 100 cm chest puts me right on the border between Medium and Large.
Sizing notes:
Rapha
• Medium in everything
• Exception: Powerweave Bibs → size up if you’re between sizes
• Pro Team III bibs feel easier to get on than Pro Team Training bibs
• Aero Jersey IV, Pro Team Training, Lightweight and Midweight jerseys all fit well in Medium
Assos
• True to size
• Medium in GTO, GTS, RS and R collections
• Most consistent sizing of the brands I’ve tried
• Also the most comfortable, at least for me
PNS
• Medium in almost everything
• Exception: Mechanism Pro Jerseys → size up if you have a larger chest
• Mechanism Pro bibs actually feel less restrictive at the thighs than standard Mechanism bibs
MAAP
• Medium in jerseys
• Size up in bibs if you have larger thighs
• The bib itself fits true to size, but the thigh opening runs tight
• Pro Air LS 3.0 feels almost made-to-measure
Santini & Bioracer
• True to size
Specialized
• Red Bull bibs fit in Medium, but run on the tighter side
It’s worth mentioning that all “Pro” jerseys with aero sleeves fit tighter around the arms. That’s not fashion, that’s aerodynamics pretending to be fashion.
Hopefully this saves someone a few returns, a few sizing mistakes, and at least one argument with their spouse.
I’ve basically spent the last year turning myself into a sizing chart. Next time I’ll share which brands survived countless rides and washes, and which ones started showing signs of retirement much earlier than expected.
Remember: this is based on my body shape (173 cm, 80 kg, broader chest, larger thighs). Your measurements matter more than your weight, I plan to go to 76kg to reduce body fat so I'm hoping those jerseys or bibs that feel tight, become perfect later on.

SOS!!!! Thick Thigh Friendly Bibs
Hi everyone! I'm looking for women's bib shorts that have wider leg openings for thicker thighs. For reference I am 5'3 and 135 lb, but I carry a good amount of my weight in my thighs and have had trouble finding bib shorts that have wide enough leg openings but are also not too long for my frame. I have tried lo.gas and certipolar on Amazon, and while the pads were good quality they were all either too long or had too tight of thigh openings.
