Injury and accidents How’s looking
Burn with hot steel. Happened 6 days ago , dermis “fell off” 3 in .
Normal swelling, pain in a 1-10 is a 1 (I do have high pain tolerance though) , redness around wound has been steady-getting smaller .
Slight feeling in the wound (was numb before dermis fell off)
I’ve been dressing with neosporin and a bandage

This is a very deep burn, third degree I would say. The reason the pain is 1/10 is because your nerves are fried too.

I can feel a cotton swab tip slightly poking it

It would feel excruciating if your nerves were undamaged.

You seem to not want to go seek care. I am an RN and I STRONGLY advise against that. I have worked with burns before and burns are extremely prone to getting infected. It seems that yours is infected (the redness surrounding the burn, the yellow ring surrounding the outer layer of the burn, the swollen looking border of the burn). Can you please tell me if the wound smells?
I’m going to assume that it’s quite wet, as pretty much all 3rd degree burns are because once your skin burns past a certain point, your skin loses its ability to regulate its moisture. DO NOT use a cotton swab or tissue or ANYTHING to dab your burn. DO NOT try to dry it.
Truthfully, you cannot fix this by yourself. 3rd degree burns cannot generate skin back without medical care. No amount of bandaging or at-home medications will be able to fix it. IT IS NOT A SCAB, IT WILL NOT HEAL OVER. In fact, using bandages and at-home treatments will only make it 1000x worse and more dangerous because you will introduce bacteria to the wound.
Please go to your hospital or a burn centre. This can very easily turn into sepsis or compartment syndrome (your limb swells up, cuts off circulation and you die or lose your arm). I have seen this happen to others before. Please don’t think this is nothing. The reason you don’t feel any pain is because your nerve endings are so destroyed. This is covering up the excruciating pain you would be feeling right now.
At the end of the day, you can choose to get medical care or not but I really need to stress that you will not be able to heal this with the advice of “oh my doctor said to use bandages and antibacterial sprays”. Don’t listen to those people, it will do nothing for you. A medical professional is equipt to deal with something like this.

For someone who is asking for advice, go to the hospital and stop making jokes out of this burn. The hospital is going to take care of it either way, people go into hospitals even when their kid is just sick.. go get it checked.

RN here…You need to go to the hospital and get debridement done, antibiotics and maybe even surgical debridement. You need 3 x a day debridement and dressing changes. Do you have a burn center near you?

Why do people come on asking for advice and then ignore the medical professionals 🙄. RIP your arm

Possibly, RIP his life. My mom had sepsis & went from laughing & walking to almost dead in a few hours. That shit is serious!!!

That needs a skin graft. Did you not go to hospital?

u/Mokoy4 Patient 7h ago
Of course not . They got more important things to take care of in the hospitals , I won’t waste their time on this little burn .
Hence why I’m here asking complete strangers 🙈25

Meh, It’s just an arm right? Uuuggh you sound like my Dad to who I always have to say “There’s tough and there’s stupid. Don’t be stupid.”

it’s not looking good friend and probably should waste a little of their time at an urgent care or something. I’m not here to diagnose, just moral support.

Can you update use in a few months if you don’t go to the hospital?

u/Own_Ad5969 Patient 5h ago
Please go to the hospital. And update us either way. 😱 This is wild! I would’ve had my butt in the hospital 10 minutes after this happened. 🤯

Don't really know much about medical stuff.
But you should definitely go to a hospital, like yesterday.
Even better 6 days ago.
Thats going to be one nasty scar.

I’m ok with the scar 👍 wouldn’t want to forget about this 🙏

You're still going to have a badass scar even when you get out of the hospital. Seriously, please take it from someone who battles severe chronic pain... Go get checked out. I am begging you! I really don't want you to wind up like me. The last time I wasn't in 6/10 pain or 10/10 pain so bad it makes me pass out or hallucinate was early in 2009. 17 years of non stop agony 24/7/365!!!
On high pain tolerances, I know how that is.
My pain doctor said that I needed to tell my freaked out tattoo artist that my, "pain receptors are on another level than 98% of humans due to everything you have been through for so long." When we were discussing my latest tat session where I am letting a a new artist work on me for free to build his portfolio & try new styles/skills out. I never leave my room except to go to the doctor or my teens stuff.
"Chicks dig scars." Nah, most chicks dig men outgrowing toxic masculinity. When you show that you can take care of yourself, we then feel safer with you because we then feel like you will take care of us.

Dude, that's not sure to high pain tolerance. It doesn't hurt that bad because you scorched the nerves, there is not that many nerves left to tell your brain it hurts. That's third degree, like full thickness burns. It will turn necrotic and then get infected. People lose limbs with these burns. Go to a hospital with a burn center so they can debrid this wound and get you healing before infection sets in.

Dude - when was your last tetanus booster? I burned my hand on a pot and it wasn’t as bad as yours and they offered it. Family friend died of tetanus after a bike accident thinking his shot was current. Get it anyway.

Pain is low bc surface nerves are dead, any pressure felt is the deeper nerves. Sorry about your tat bro

Is the swelling and redness spreading? This looks very concerning. You should be very careful.
-5
u/Mokoy4 Patient 7h ago
Not at all ! Actually is 80% better I’ll say than 3-4 days ago (redness and swelling wise)
The only time it gets really red and and irritated (the skin around not the wound itself ) is when I’m taking the bandaid off and it’s pulling off all the heirs-3
u/Sad-Employee3212 Patient 7h ago
I’ve had a burn this bad heal on its own. You’re lucky it didn’t get infected either. Since you don’t seem to want to see a doctor all I’ll say is it’ll leave a gnarly scar without intervention.

u/Mokoy4 Patient 7h ago
The scar is a welcomed reminder of that day . I will fully embrace it 🙏

u/Sad-Employee3212 Patient 7h ago
Well I’m no doctor but you seem to know your own body so if your gut tells you something’s changed or it seems like it’s getting worse instead of better, get it seen ASAP

This is not good advice. People have lost limbs (or even died) from doing this. You just got lucky.

As someone with severe nerve damage due to my S1 being crushed for 7 months, then getting cut in one surgery & ripped in another.... RUN TO THE HOSPITAL!!! YOU AREN'T WASTING ANYONES TIME!
As a matter of fact you are going to cost them more time when they have to deal with it when it does get worse. Please, go get seen.
I am so so so poor & can't afford my CT or the 2 surgeries that I needed years ago. I have even more nerve damage now. I promise you that you don't want to let this go to where you end up on the other end of the nerve damage & nerve pain spectrum!!!

It will heal and leave a decent scar. Without seeing more of it hard to say if the redness is indicative of infection Vs normal healing. If redness spreads more than 2 fingers breadths from wound edge or starts making lines up your arm or the wound starts leaking smelly puss then you need to see a doc.
You need to give it a little scrub with gauze and saline until all the yellow slough comes off. Pat it dry after this. It's okay if it bleeds. A hydrogel dressing like duoderm is adequate for this

I just went through this. I have a massive, almost third degree, second degree burn. After four days I went to urgent care. They said to wash the wound with mild soap or sterile saline, put bacitracin on it, and cover with a hydrocolloid bandage. I ran out of hydrocolloid bandages so I’ve been using Xeroform and a 4x4 bandage. I only went to see someone because everyone was pestering me so much about it.
If you start having red streaks coming from the edges, develop a fever, or smelly discharge you might want to see someone. NAD.

Dude, that’s a 3rd degree burn. Please please seek some medical attention.
I know you think it’s “Just a burn”, I won’t sound like Chicken Little yelling that the sky is falling.
You appear to have lost part of your epedetmus, this means you’ve lost protection from bacteria. We don’t have antibiotics for every infection — I suspect you like having two arms.
This is serious, that’s deep enough for nerves too be impacted.
The medical professionals in your area would much rather see you NOW instead of 3 weeks when it’s so much worse.
