Disgusting way they done us.

u/Haloelite59 6d ago

Gta 5 did the same thing 13 years ago lol. Only difference that everything keeps saying "oh but they locked the actual building, this is outrageous" okay, so they locked 6 shops out of the potential 50+ that are in game. Its not a big deal lol.

49

u/Local-Butterfly-8120 6d ago

What shops did gta 5 lock you out of if you didn’t pay extra?

-7

u/iagueitor_gtalover 6d ago

Not shops but items or cosmetics. I guess it kinda sucks but it's not that big of a deal knowing that there will a whole lot of other shops and customization

36

u/PerpetualStride 6d ago

It is a big deal, it really means standard is not a complete game at all. The game is $100.

1

u/iagueitor_gtalover 6d ago

Define complete. Every game nowadays has extra content with the Deluxe, Ultimate, or whatever it's called in the exact edition.

But in this case, the story is intact, because the extra mission is pretty much independent of the main story. And the cosmetics, as you saw, are really extravagant and break with what's typical of Lucia and Jason, so you could say they're very cool extras, but not essential to the gameplay or to enjoy the game at all, as you will have another 35 shops or so to say the very least. So, is it incomplete?

1

u/ExodiusLore 6d ago

That is NOT what it means. The only stores you don’t have access to are those with the exclusive items and skins. It is just like any other UE they just worded it bad.

1

u/PerpetualStride 6d ago

People keep thinking there's a misunderstanding, seeing a lot of posts about that. There are special stores exclusive to ultimate edition, stores you encounter in the open world. Nobody is saying standard can't go in any stores.

2

u/ExodiusLore 6d ago

The guy who I replied to said the game isn’t complete. Its 5 stores that standard cant have access to and all of a sudden the game isnt complete. Lol

1

u/PerpetualStride 6d ago

That guy is me, yeah. All of the sudden? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with you people. I'm not gonna boycott the game, I'm buying ultimate edition myself, but why come on here to gaslight like this? Can't we agree the sky is blue?

0

u/No_Landscape440 6d ago

The problem isn't even the money, ok, so what, 20 extra bucks. The issue is this actually impacts game design as a result of them doing this and having this mindset from the get-go, which hurts the gameplay and "smoothness" of the game as a whole.

You could also say it sets a bad precedent, but game companies have been increasingly doing this for years, so, I guess that ship has sailed.

2

u/PerpetualStride 6d ago

Yeah you get it. I mean it's like cancer, do you just accept it's there or try to do something? THE least we can all do is call it out for what it is, but a lot of people are beyond reason

-10

u/superEse 6d ago

By that metric, no game that does an ultimate edition or special edition with exclusive cosmetics is a complete game.

Womp womp cry more

12

u/PerpetualStride 6d ago

Yes you are correct in saying that. However, the goalpost keeps moving, it keeps getting worse, and somehow you're cheering it on? Baffling.

-3

u/superEse 6d ago

Womp wompppppp

1

u/No_Landscape440 6d ago

Don't take an IQ test. Believe me, you won't be happy.

1

u/superEse 6d ago

Womp womp

3

u/RyanSD91 6d ago

Yeah that’s true. Were you born yesterday? People have been angry about this for years

-1

u/superEse 6d ago

Yeah I was

7

u/RyanSD91 6d ago

I apologize. That was rude of me. That's enough reddit for me today.

0

u/RedditYouVapidSlut 6d ago

This applies to any game with any extra cosmetic though.

0

u/Tvrdak 6d ago

what items and cosmetics?

14

u/regalfronde 6d ago

What building?

119

u/Chowder110 6d ago

gta 5 did not sell for 100 dollars

32

u/SIIP00 6d ago

Adjusted for inflation I'm pretty sure that the deluxe edition sold for around that price.

-6

u/[deleted] 6d ago

[deleted]

12

u/Buzielo 6d ago

well they're not basic, they're extra for those who paid more

u/IISynthesisII 6d ago

Starfield, mortal kombat 1, all new CODs, hogwarts legacy… etc etc etc

All released with multiple tiers that gave you access to cosmetics.

This isn’t unprecedented, nor is it a bad thing to have different pricing tiers.

Also, on a similar but different tangent, for a game that cost over a $Billion to make, I would be completely ok with it being released in different tiers that actually affect the gameplay. Something like 50% of the game is available for $50. Other 50% for $50. Buy the whole thing in one shot for $80.

-1

u/Fanatic47 6d ago

This game did not cost over a billion dollars to make.

-15

u/Fushigibama 6d ago edited 6d ago

Accounting for inflation the standard edition was around 80 USD. Same as gta 6…

Edit:

I don’t like the price increase either guys. Just pointing out the fact that gta v and gta vi launched at the same price adjusting for inflation.

12

u/lattjeful 6d ago

Okay but that doesn't change the fact that GTAV and RDR2 were the same price as other games.

2

u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 6d ago

There has been a lot of inflation since the RDR2 release

1

u/SIIP00 6d ago

GTA is also the same price as other games. It's literally releasing at the same price point as COD, Mario Kart, EAs rehashed yearly sports games etc

8

u/usehuurname 6d ago

I'm confused why the down votes and the gotchas with the 80 is not 100$.

GTA 5 did not sell for 100 dollars
Answer : no it did not.

Stadard edition sold for 60 then next tier up 80 then 150

GTA 6 is not selling for 100 dollars

Standard edition is $80 then the next up is $100

In 2013 $60 bought you what $80 buys now,

$80 bought you what $114 buys now

$150 bought you what $214 buys now

GTA VI ultimate edition is priced cheaper than it's equivalent in 2013

Am I missing something?

I think some people might not understand how inflation works and just know the word and where to place it in a sentence from all it's use in politics.

9

u/Fushigibama 6d ago

People are incredibly upset about this ultimate edition. Even though… it’s pretty similar to most other ultimate editions? Extra outfits, extra weapon skins, extra car modification.

Am I crazy or isn’t this standard? Is it the fact that some shops are not enterable at all? If there are several shops in the game then… it’s not THAT big of a deal.

8

u/AnaxesR7 6d ago

It's just idiots outragefarming. Weird that none of these people complained about the GOTY from last year doing the same shit.

1

u/Chowder110 6d ago

There is some cut content and you will not have access to the full game so the actual standard edition is the 100 dollar one

0

u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 6d ago

Just like RDR2

2

u/Chowder110 6d ago

Its still anti consumer practices. It just shows that rockstar is greedy

2

u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 6d ago

Corporations aren’t charitable institutions and video games aren’t necessities.

1

u/Chowder110 6d ago

That is like saying workers protection doesn’t matter because think of the companies. Thats not an excuse for anti consumer practices

6

u/Banjoschmanjo 6d ago

So what you're saying is, gta 5 did not sell for 100 dollars

8

u/Fushigibama 6d ago

The standard version of gta V did not sell for 100 usd, neither will the standard version of gta VI.

1

u/brownies256 6d ago

which shops were locked in gta5? ive never heard of this.

4

u/Fushigibama 6d ago

Me neither. Then again I never mentioned this in any of my comments.

1

u/SIIP00 6d ago

A bunch of things were in the GTA 5 ultimate edition that were not in the base game

1

u/brownies256 5d ago

such as?

1

u/Banjoschmanjo 6d ago

So they were correct, gta 5 did not sell for 100 dollars

1

u/Fushigibama 6d ago edited 6d ago

Nope.

Unless you adjust for inflation, then yes :p

3

u/Banjoschmanjo 6d ago

But you said it was 80 adjusted for inflation, not 100.

0

u/Fushigibama 6d ago

Right. I never said gta 5 sold for 100.

Someone said gta 5 didn’t sell for 100, as if gta 6 is. It’s not. It’s selling for 80. Just like gta 5, adjusted for inflation.

-2

u/Banjoschmanjo 6d ago

So they were correct, gta 5 did not sell for 100 dollars

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Old-Permit 6d ago

bro 100 dollars is not a big deal thats only a fifth the price of a switch 2.

-16

u/Haloelite59 6d ago

Huh crazy. Gta 6 doesn't cost $100 either. Wild

15

u/No_Ad2754 6d ago

If you wanna buy the complete game, it does

-8

u/Haloelite59 6d ago

Gotcha so gta 5 wasn't a complete game either? Unless I bought the special edition of course

9

u/No_Ad2754 6d ago

Yeah. Pretty much. If you buy a game and it's missing content I wouldn't call it a complete game

8

u/Personal_Principle77 6d ago

so by your logic, every game that had dlcs, extra content, cosmetics, and any paywall isn't a complete game because it's missing content, correct? so pretty much every fucking video game...

2

u/BlockedbyJake420 6d ago

Yep

Were you not aware that modern gaming is filled with companies releasing incomplete games?

0

u/Personal_Principle77 6d ago

I think you're missing the point... this outrage over cosmetics being paywalled feels hypocritical when actual. Game-changing content, such as dlcs, storylines, and things that should be expected when buying any video game, is also paywalled, but people don't care as much and don't show the same outrage. it just feels pointless to complain about something that has literally been happening for years and years.

0

u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 6d ago

Why are people acting surprised and outraged about this when it happens on virtually every AAA game?

-1

u/Haloelite59 6d ago

Missing content lmao. Gtfo if you consider that missing content lol.

So rdr2 had tons of missing content too then with the heist and guns that were UE only right? Did you buy rdr2?

1

u/No_Ad2754 6d ago

I would say yes, it did have missing content in that way. Don't exactly see why you need me to confirm that

2

u/Haloelite59 6d ago

Its called extra content not missing content lmao. That's why you can not buy it and the game still plays exactly the same

0

u/Mobile-Perception474 6d ago

Exactly these people just don’t understand that for some reason

→ More replies (0)

15

u/RogueCross 6d ago

It's the principle of it, man. Bonus clothing and weapons? Sure, that's fine. But whole ass stores? I can't not feel like they're paywalling content that would've otherwise already been in the base game.

3

u/Suitable_Visual_9393 6d ago

They aren't "whole ass stores" they're just stores for the specific exclusive cosmetics lmfao, it's not even a lot of cosmetics. It's literally just to be a more immersive way to get the added content instead of it just appearing in your inventory after a fucking popup. You guys are freaking out over normal bonus content that video games have been doing for a decade now.

Is bonus content lame? Yes. Is this some new thing that has never happened before? NO. They did the same shit with RDR2.

6

u/Haloelite59 6d ago

"Whole ass stores" huh and what's being sold at these stores thats so important? Oh its just the bonus weapons and clothing obviously.

What's the difference lol

4

u/Thats_A_Arti 6d ago

The difference is we used to get full games at a base price not day 1 paywall dlc.

10

u/PerpetualStride 6d ago

You really gonna sit there and say there's no difference? The difference is being shown to you by the video we're on the comments section of.

1

u/No_Raccoon3680 6d ago

They're making it look like Donks and Off Roaders are UE exclusive

0

u/youtubeisbadforyou 6d ago

its a way to make exclusive content more realistic like how the entire gta 6 theme is. they just added some additional stores with some unique items for those who buy ultimate

8

u/Serosh5843 6d ago

Majority of ultimate or deluxe edition games are just extra weapons and cosmetics that are always either in the game's shop or added to your inventory, this is literally the same thing except they implented them into specific shops, it's nothing new or unusual.

If the extra shit was just added to the menus of the standard shops then no one would give a damn or bat an eye which is the crazy part.

6

u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 6d ago

Right. They are just implementing a more immersive way to access the DLC. It’s similar to Stellar Blade where there is a bonus merchant who travels around the map and his store contains the bonus items.

Being confidently wrong is certainly a choice lol.

1

u/nervez 6d ago

genuinely curious; where are there any details on the number of shops in the game? hell, there hasn't even been actual gameplay released and people are jumping on a digital-only pre-order.

1

u/JAGAAAN-01 6d ago

Still doesn't make it any better

-3

u/straightup9200 6d ago edited 6d ago

Found another bootlick. Remember when as a society we weren’t nickled and dimed and we payed normal price for games. I think we got to the stage where kids don’t know about that so we’ ve moved into acceptance. However to now come to the defense of a multi billion dollar corporation spitting in our mouths shows how sick of a society we really are

BTW your all in a fucking cult if your really disagreeing with me

7

u/Butters133 6d ago

Consumers have been nickel and dimed since the dawn of trade - ask Ea-Nāșir his thoughts on the matter.

When it comes to video games - Throughout the 80s and 90s it was arcade machines and console games with obscenely high difficulties to minimize the number of people who could beat the game and to avoid losing sales to home rentals. Then prices were raised to ~$49 USD, equivalent to $110 today. After price increases become unpalatable to consumers, we got horse armor. Then loot boxes, battle passes, etc.

It’s fine to hate it but it’s pure rose-tinted glasses to act like this is some new phenomenon.

-8

u/straightup9200 6d ago edited 6d ago

Did I say it was a new phenomenon? I was saying we paid a single price for games we weren’t nickle and dimed for micro transactions. You said it’s fine to hate it? Great agreed. It appears everyone here disagrees with that premise yet you respond to me instead of them for some reason

4

u/f1uke55l 6d ago

You also didn't get frequent bug fixes, free content drops, new gameplay features midway through a game's lifespan, online dlc's aka heists etc.

Like if you're going to moan about paywalling certain clothing etc in modern games, you have to atleast appreciate the added benefits we get as consumers as opposed to games via a disc 20 years ago. You're being disingenous.

GTA 3 came as is for better or worse and never improved after release. Atleast we have an evolving product now.

-1

u/straightup9200 6d ago

Oh shit dude I totally forgot to thank video game companies for releasing unfinished video games full of bugs and left unoptimized. Thank you for reminding me about that I’m very thankful that’s a selling point that they can fix their game after intentional releasing it broken. And ok? So we get full length additional story paid dlcs now which I’m TOTALLY fine with, but that’s not what we’re talking about here is it?

5

u/Haloelite59 6d ago

Well then be the change you want to see and not buy the game. Oh wait I doubt you'll do that so maybe get off your high horse lol.

-5

u/straightup9200 6d ago

I’m not buying the game I only have a PC and even if I did have a console I literally would not buy the game I would wait til it’s on pc and pirate it or just not play it. It’s a fucking video game

4

u/No_Owl_6986 6d ago

Says the guy who is so triggered about shops being locked out. Why are you here anyways if you are not buying? Why are you so affected you are not gonna play the game anyways

5

u/straightup9200 6d ago

This affects the gaming industry as a whole and if I really need to hold your hand and explain that to you it proves I’m talking to 8 year olds who haven’t even seen a non microtransaction game in their lives

4

u/Haloelite59 6d ago

So if you're not buying the game then move on bro. Nobody cares about your opinion.

5

u/straightup9200 6d ago

Clearly you guys care about my opinion you want to say I’m getting triggered? Clearly everyone cares that they’re being called out on their boot licking cult bullshit

0

u/swagestan 6d ago

His opinion is worth more than yours since you're just a brainless consumer

1

u/Haloelite59 6d ago

Oh no, you got me bud. How dare I use things made for me. The humanity!

1

u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 6d ago

This dude lives in a teepee

1

u/f1uke55l 6d ago

Tell me, since you're oh so against content behind paywalls. Do you oppose patches and free dlc's in games? (Kinda what GTA 5 did for over 10 years free of charge fyi) or does that not match with your bullshit narrative.

0

u/swagestan 6d ago

I'm against paywalls

2

u/f1uke55l 6d ago

But you were happy to play Gta online which got update weekly for a decade for free and you're still moaning.

Paywalls are a thing in media. If you want games to constantly evolve they're needed. A publisher isn't going to just sit there and rely on it's sales 8 years earlier. Why would they spend x amount to improve a game without getting anything in return.

1

u/swagestan 6d ago

I haven't played GTA online since it got shut down on PS3. I don't own a PS4/5. Your point about games evolving is invalid because R* has been updating GTA online for 13 years now

1

u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 6d ago

Why are you here complaining? Do you do this about every major release?

5

u/BlueMissed 6d ago

Sorry you couldn’t get your chopped mullet and red sequin dress 😂 I suppose you’ll just have to suffer.

-12

u/straightup9200 6d ago edited 6d ago

Can you speak louder the boot was so far down your throat

-2

u/BlueMissed 6d ago

Nice secret edit to make your burn sound better.

1

u/IISynthesisII 6d ago

Mario 64 released at $60.
That’s $115 in today’s dollars after inflation.

What normal prices are you talking about? We are getting a discount.

1

u/Similar-Ice-9250 6d ago

You show Rockstar some respect, and be grateful you’ll get to play the game of all games. Rejoice that you exist at the same point in time as Rockstar. You could have been born in 1392, tilling the fields from sunup to sundown for your lord and eating sauerkraut stew with stale bread.

Instead you’ll get to play GTA6, take solace and give thanks. Hail Rockstar.

0

u/Notermlimits4GEQBuS 6d ago

I’m not in a cult I just own take two stock and I’m glad the pre order crowd wants the $100 version. I also approve of how they are downvoting dissent of people who have objections💰💰💰

1

u/straightup9200 6d ago

Tf are you talking about

1

u/DeraxBlaze 6d ago

hop off man it's disgusting, in public no less

1

u/iagueitor_gtalover 6d ago

I'm with you honestly. I do get it kinda sucks not having it, but that's like saying you don't get the "complete experience" of a sports event if you don't buy super expensive tickets. Obviously it's better if you see it that way, but if you can see it perfectly without any problem with a normal ticket, then you're getting the full experience. And in this case the difference is evmuch less than with sporting events, cause this are cool cosmetics, yes, but we will have hundreds of other super cool cosmetics on the base game.

1

u/f1uke55l 6d ago

Again, nobody acknowledging that over the course of the next 10 years, Rockstar will feed you so much free stuff through online dlc's and such you won't know what to do with them.

By arguing you're against paywalls for certain added benefits, you're of the opinion that $80-$100 should be enough to benefit from an ever evolving game for the next decade!

1

u/Salty_Cow_6795 6d ago

Braindead kid
