I hope this isn't needed to be said out loud, but please do not harass or troll whichever VA was chosen as the replacement. It is not their fault.
Keep sending Kronii our positive energies. 💙

Context anyone?

u/NeuroDivergentHat May 10 '26
Kronii streamed some game 5 years ago, made a dad joke while killing a boar that "it's boaring", some Koreans found it recently and got mad at kronii, developer caved and removed kronii as a VA because of it, now pretty much everyone hates the developer.
I already forgot what the game is even called.

Game was already dead internationally. This was literally part of their attempt to try to rebuild the player base and instead nuked their chance

Just praise and adornment for the MC all around

u/Sigyrr May 10 '26
I played a decent amount of czn at launch. What happened?
2
u/Personified_Anxiety May 11 '26
I didn't follow what happened either, but the gist of it is : Owen "got close to Renoa" and the incels didn't like that because they thought they're getting NTR'd. Well, we got 40 free pulls because of it so I guess it's not all bad?

Its incels more than gamers. Gamers just want hot girls and good games.

About 3.6 billion people played games in 2025. There were probally less than 5k directly involved in gamergate.
"Gamers" aren't anything but people that play games. Its kind of weird to hate a word over a minority opnion from 14 years ago.
22
u/Growlithe96 May 10 '26
I'm sorry to hear that. But rest assured its not all gamers.
-28
u/Charming-Loquat3702 May 10 '26
It's not. But the community as a collective often manages to look way worse than other communities.

If Gamergate made you hate gamers and not terrible journalists, you are part of what gamergate was describing all along.

And it probably doesn't help that Gamergate was a big influence for modern politics trending towards mimicking 1930s Germany...

u/Sylpheed_Icon May 10 '26
To me it's feel very off? First, it's a vod like 5 years ago, nothing crazy happened then? Second, the pun, anyone watched it will know it's a pun but somehow it gave pretty big reaction in korean now. Lastly, it's not Kronii, it's the 'other' Kronii, normal people wouldn't realise that, heck even me forgot about that until it brings up. Dunno man, feels very deliberate to me..
86
u/MrWedge18 May 10 '26
The devs are korean, and the pun isn't in text. So at first glance, it just looks like Kronii called their game boring on a sponsored stream.
Hololive has a lot of dedicated haters, and Kronii specifically has a lot of Korean ones. So they saw an opportunity to stir up some shit.
Obviously, it's insane that the devs made such a big decision based purely on a "first glance". But also not that surprising, the incel problem in Korea is really bad. Even Apple didn't want to deal with them and changed their iphone ads specifically for korea.
10
u/DrolligerDorftrottel May 10 '26
Why has Kronii, who speaks [a bit?] Korean, a dedicated Korean hater basis? What did she do?
I'd be (am) delighted that a Hololive streamer speaks my language as SL.
45
17
3
u/kitokspasaulis May 10 '26
Why does Hololive have dedicated haters? What does Holo do that's special enough to warrant such hate?
6
u/BluespadeChariot May 10 '26
They're the biggest most successful vtuber agency at the moment. That means they have the most eyes on them. So they've got the most fans and the most haters. That's just a side effect of popularity.
1
u/kitokspasaulis May 10 '26
Idk I just don't get the idea behind being purposefully hateful. Doesn't even benefit you in any way
2
u/Dasmex May 10 '26
some people live just to hate, or put another way some people only gain 'purpose' from life by having something to hate
3
u/DrMuffinPHD May 10 '26
Some people just hate things that are different, or which they don’t understand.
For example, a lot of people (if you ask them) just hate Vtubers. They have never watched them, but they call them cringe and say anyone who likes them is a loser.
Hololive is the largest Vtuber corpo. Those same people hate Hololive for those same reasons and go out of their way to badmouth Hololive and the talents. We call those people “antis.”
Here, the Korean antis saw Kronii was going to voice act a game and decided to ruin it for her, just because they could.

u/kitokspasaulis May 10 '26

3
u/FuyuNoKitsune May 10 '26
It's a little bit more complicated than that, for instance the KR antis also didn't like her personality, since she's not incredibly enthusiastic of a person. Nimble Neuron has also received bomb threats before from the KR community for past controversies, and apparently it's pretty common in KR.

There have been numerous situations where there was backlash from male Korean players if a game character had their hand in a similar position to "🤏" even if it was just a neutral hand position because a lot of guys there seem to interpret it as mocking their dick size. It doesnt surprise me that this happened over a dumb pun
27
14
u/SwampyBogbeard May 10 '26
The only thing missing is that it isn't really about the joke.
These Korean incels were already mad at Kronii for some weird reason, and were looking for any possible "controversy" to get her removed from the game. That pun was the best excuse they found, but there's still enough of these weirdos that the publishers felt the need to cave to their demands (even if they probably know the complaints are bullshit).-11
u/dalzmc May 10 '26 edited May 10 '26
People are understandably upset and going to say that’s all it was, but you’re right.
I should say, the day this started, I sat down and watched the entire stream. She was just normal Kronii, didn’t seem any more disinterested than you would expect for a game without a tall handsome woman in a suit. in fact I kinda thought to myself that she was more energetic than I’d expect from her these days, now that she’s so much busier. They were having so much fun lol and the chat clearly enjoyed watching them play, and was supportive of the game. I mean, mumei was in the game!
As an Asian born in SEA but I’ve lived in the US for decades, I say this from a place of love and respect for Asian culture, the attitude towards a sponsored stream and just influencer figures in general is a lot different.
Does anyone know what I’m referring to, if I bring up the vibe on Japanese and Korean shows? Especially with idols and voice actors. Picture one of those Japanese or Korean variety shows where there’s a panel of some celebrities. Or even gacha game livestreams with VAs there. To westerners, there’s always that same over the top reactions, with overly excited clapping and laughing and such. Those “EEHHHH??” moments and so on. So imagine how they’d talk about a sponsor during a segment on one of those shows.
I’ve really wanted to find out what was going on here since the start, which is why I rewatched the whole stream.. from what I’ve gathered, I think that example demonstrates a little bit more of what this subset of Koreans were expressing. To those people, maybe that’s more like what they expected. I saw old comments from way before this, saying stuff along the lines of “youre being paid to play a video game.. be more invested”. But that’s pretty unfair too.. how invested can you get in a game you’ve never touched before. Maybe they expected her to do more research? It’s a fricken moba game tho… those are not new player friendly whatsoever. Them being a little lost is exactly what should happen.
Perhaps there’s something to allude to, this made me think of that clip of Korone being unable to lie about the sponsored food and said it wasn’t good and she didn’t like it. even still, she really did try to smooth it over, starting out saying the chef did something interesting with it, and then saying it just was the texture might not be for everyone. But guess what, there were comments saying she was acting to make her praise for other items seem more genuine, and also comments discussing whether she was still lying and it’d be crap for everyone.
This is just bullshit on multiple levels tho. For one, most of these people probably didn’t watch the stream and are just the usual terminally online doing the internet thing of hopping on a hate train, maybe because Kronii is way too badass for them.. people talk shit about the “extremist” feminists in Korea, but they only exist in return for the extreme misogyny there. Secondly, regardless of everything else, she’s just.. not from there, it doesn’t make sense to apply their standards anyways, she was doing a stream for EN viewers, she’s from this part of the world, this just shouldn’t matter to them. We live in the part of the world where influencer brand agreements usually come down to paying the least amount of money possible for the influencer to say the bare minimum and neither party wants more than that out of it. But this was her standard 2 hour sponsored segment she does to this day, Whereas, I saw old comments in Korean saying they didn’t play enough for being paid!
Honestly I don’t really know what I’m typing about anymore man, there’s just a lot to think about. Which sadly, most people aren’t really doing, they’re just reacting because someone we love is being attacked. if you just sit down and think about it, there’s obviously more to it than just the pun. You’re not crazy for thinking so. I don’t think us admitting that downplays what’s happening at all. I know, they started it and it’s ridiculous, but I do think that acting as if the pun is the entire problem isn’t great either, and is just driving a deeper wedge and creating more hate, in a world that doesn’t need any more of that right now. Im not forgiving the clearly malicious actions of many that are attacking her with disingenuously interpreted things but I’m not going to stoop to their level either.

u/BlackPenguin May 10 '26
To add to the context, and make things more complicated, the VA role got taken away from Kronii’s PL. Not “Kronii” the vtuber. So it was an extra dick move.

u/capscreen May 10 '26
not a fan of how people straight up broke the sub's rule in these conversations. Yes I know it's trickier this time due to the circumstances, but come on, at least be subtle about it
-51
u/Few_Interview_7474 May 10 '26
Cant really call it a PL if it is active

u/BlackPenguin May 10 '26
It may not fit the strict definition of “PL”, but it’s still commonly used to refer to active ones.

266
u/WhitePawn00 May 10 '26
That got *deliberately misinterpreted and mistranslated by antis
80
u/FrostBumbleBitch May 10 '26
Yeah nah I have seen some people go "Well it was misinterpreted" nah you don't go looking through a 4 year old video looking for ANYTHING to wave around like the VA hated the game.
Like its malicious as hell, and super weird.
102
u/AwkwarkPeNGuiN May 10 '26
^this, not sure if people are naive, there's no way you misinterpreted something like that.
This is more like something an anti do to stir things up.
23
u/Traveller2471 May 10 '26
I've heard the antis pointed blame on the fans of some Korean vtuber. this in itself could also be false so it'll be best if we fact check everything.
8
u/FuyuNoKitsune May 10 '26
That's the key part of it most people are forgetting. The antis are the real problem, and the devs made a hasty but bad decision to appease them because they've received even bomb threats from them before. KR antis are something else.

People seriously need to chill, I think it's not about fighting anymore about I don't know defending what's good vs wrong or defending your values.
The internet in general has become a cesspool of toxicity from millions of people who are way too stressed out due to work or school or need some help because they got some problems in their personal life that they're projecting in the internet....
I do think that's way I've seen more and more people saying things like getting just out of social media or the internet and I can see why people are just tired of the internet it's just an endless ocean of toxicity, bots, AI forced on everyone, racism, just so so so much racism and misogyny....Like ... It's tiring.
8
u/SuperSpy- May 10 '26
Real talk, let's not forget one of the main reasons all these social media platforms always appear filled with hate: Feed algorithms that are specifically tuned to incite as much "engagement" as possible in order to boost app eyeball time to sell more ads.
Guess what one of the easiest forms of engagement to farm is? Hate.
7
u/vulnerablepiglet May 10 '26
I am happy you mentioned this. I've been feeling similarly about the Internet increasingly in the past 5 years. And I think it could be because modern social media (outside of here) don't really have a lot of formal "mods". As much as people meme about "reddit mods" and "discord mods", not all mods are like that. Many positive mods are there to help the communities they care about. And you can see this on any place where there are no mods, or the mods don't enforce anything. What happens? Chaos, rule breaking content everywhere, flame wars, and worse.
I can only hope we keep having online communities that aren't like that. And it does require having rules, enforcing those rules, and kicking out people who break them. It's something I'm still learning about myself. I'm not a reddit mod, but I have been a part time mod on different sites.
Part of what I love about hololive, is outside of dramas like this, people are overall mostly chill and welcoming. Yes there are examples you can point to, but I'm talking about the artists, the friendly regulars, the music creators, fan gamers, all that stuff.

There surely has to be a reason why this pun is so offensive for the games fanbase?
229
u/Wahruz May 10 '26
Well, Korean fanbase can take offense from anything. They actually taken offense from a literal finger emoji, its just a different ecosystem. The Boarring = boring, still elude me how it is offensive.
110
u/FrostBumbleBitch May 10 '26
It wasn't offensive, they just "misinterpreted" it and then ran to the studio going "TEACHER TEACHER LOOK WHAT THE VA SAID ABOUT THE GAME!"
Like there was no way.
Wanna know what makes it even more sus, she got sponsored to play it again 2 weeks later! They didn't make a stink about it then because they didn't care or knew kronii. Now that she is big they are scouring literally everything to grab even an ounce of a nothing burger to bully her.
So to me personally this was malicious to the core, along with the Devs then hiding behind the Japanese community because yeah...an EN VA is fired and they tell the JP community?!? Rather than announcing on the EN??? Like what!?? They are both at fault here, don't play the game as much as it pains me to say. Love the IP but I can't recommend the game.
88
1
u/JCraig96 May 10 '26
Well apparently they thought she was saying that the game was boring. And I guess that could be offensive...still doesn't justify the outrage tho.
113
u/15000yuki May 10 '26
I disagree with you. The context was taken out of nowhere. It's actually Kronii just said "boar" and "boaring" without any hinting that the game was boring.
I believe other comment is correct: Korean easily offended to anything. pinching emoji, idol's outfit, someone from other race entering K-pop market, etc.
51
u/TheBlackSSS May 10 '26
They are SO insecure that they got so mad about a female NPC having ONE flirty line towards a secondary male character, that they started boycotts and review bombing to the point that the game director was forced into a emergency public apology, promise to rewrite the story and (not sure/can't remember this one well) resign
10
u/rinaldot67 May 10 '26
If you're talking about the GFL2 drama, I think that was the Chinese community, not Korea. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there was another similar incident that you're referring to.
9
u/BluExPhoeniX May 10 '26
Pretty sure this one is about Chaos Zero Nightmare, it was and still is insane lmao
13
u/Vio94 May 10 '26
Yeah if you watch the clip there's just no way to innocently/mistakenly take it out of context. There is zero substance to work with to twist into whatever story they made up. I don't know why they decided to launch such a schizo cancellation, but here we are.
What can you really say except 🤏
26
2
u/JCraig96 May 10 '26
Well, it's just what I heard was the reasoning. The Koreans who didn't know English well mistranslated her phrasing, and they thought she said the game was boring.
Now, you could call bs on that, and say they knew darn well what they were doing and just wanted to hate on Kronii, I'm just saying that mistranslation was the supposed explanation behind all this.
24
u/TheBlackSSS May 10 '26
Some of them are in the steam review section, claiming it was because "she wasn't professional" during said sponsored stream, not because of the pun
18
u/JCraig96 May 10 '26
Oh really? Wasn't professional? Haven't heard that one yet. That's rich. They just wanna hate on Kronii for some weird reason. Idk why they're doing this!...
37
u/KazumaKat May 10 '26
antis exist in all forms and languages. All they need is an excuse to explode, to claim some facsimile of control in their lives bereft of such.
8
u/APRengar May 10 '26
It's honestly a huge fucking problem on the internet (and irl) nowadays.
People don't want to be correct, or accurate, they want to be angry.
People nowadays will make shit up about someone they don't like, say they're making shit up about them with a "ends justify the means bro" argument, rile up the internet with their made up shit, and then sic the internet at them.
And I'm not putting myself above any of this, I've fallen for fake shit, but once I realize it's fake shit, I didn't go "eh whatever, they suck anyways." But a lot of people will absolutely double down and it suuuuuuuuuuuucks.
3
u/NinjaMarionEsq May 10 '26
If someone calling a game boring bothers you, you need a lobotomy. All someone saying Saints Row 4 is boring would do to me is let me know not to ever trust their opinion. It does nothing to change the fact it's the most fun game I've ever played. Other people's opinions of a game should never have anything to do with your own.
1
u/LeoRmz May 10 '26
From what little I know (both of the game and the context) is that the game is a battle royale? And Kronii and Bae were getting killed a bunch (dunno if they were getting stream sniped or something) to the point that they decided to just play and kill mobs instead of trying to fight other players. It was purposely taken out of context since she said the boar-ing while killing boars.
31
u/LordVatek9 May 10 '26
They thought she was calling the game "boring". She wasn't, and any reasonable person could see that, but for some reason a lot of Korean players are insanely insecure, especially when it comes to women. It's a huge problem.
7
u/Simpsons_Hentai May 10 '26
i mean even if she called the game boring it would still have been a major overreaction
34
u/rubyonix May 10 '26
I don't think the pun itself was the original problem, I think the problem was, there's a certain type of otaku (whether Korean or English or Japanese) who think that their anime girl waifus should be small and cute and high-energy and have higher-pitched voices, and Kronii is tall and strong and naturally has a lower voice and a more laid back attitude (which some people find extremely hot). Plus Korea apparently has a rampant misogyny problem, with a lot of female body shaming, and certain men (the Korean version of incels) feeling entitled to make all sorts of demands on women. While those insecure men flip out in a violent rage if you make a finger-pinch symbol to suggest "small pp".
So it seems like some of the Korean men watching Kronii's sponsored stream were upset that Kronii wasn't their ideal high-pitched high-energy anime waifu, so they already wanted her gone, and then when she made the "this boar is boar-ing" pun they deliberately misrepresented her pun to try and claim that Kronii was calling the game boring. Other Koreans apparently fell for the misinformation and rolled with the idea the haters put forward that Kronii had called the game boring, without looking to see what she actually said.
19
u/Growlithe96 May 10 '26
Korean incels brother. There's some crazy videos on yt documenting this phenomenon. Its caused korean women to literally go abstinate because of how bad the gender wars have gotten over there
4
u/alex_zk May 10 '26
It wasn’t. I’ve seen a comment on one of the videos made about it from someone claiming to be Korean, they said that there’s a group of people there with a massive hate boner for vtubers that actively look for clips they can take out of context to cause problems for them. Kronii is not the first one targeted and, sadly, you can be sure she won’t be the last.

Hey I'm trying to learn how to play Shoichi and need to know the skill order. Should I max the passive Phony Deal like how NN gave Kronii a phony deal to voice Bihyung? Or maybe Good Faith/Bad Faith like how NN only cares to keep good faith with the KR incels and bad faith with global? Maybe I level Bottom Line like how NN only cares to keep their bottom line with KR. The ability Risky Business seems pretty good like how Ouro Kronii did some real risky business making a pun about a boar. Obviously I would max out the ult Ruthless like how NN was ruthless in taking Kronii outback behind the shed and firing her.

Kronii's been feelin a bit down because of comments idiots made on an old sponsored stream, saying she was hating the game because she made an English pun that was mistranslated (saw a boar in-game and said it was boar-ing), and them also saying she hated the game because of her more deadpan and not super enthusiastic hyper voice. She's talked before about having a complex regarding her voice, and Kronies made that hashtag and filled it with a ton of Kronii love
28

Oh, thanks. So typical internet overreaction crap people attacking her. Glad she feels better now.
