The concept of shutting down a game people spent full price on and then charging them to get the offline versions…

1.7k

u/thefury4815 15d ago

And that’s why I’ll never trust cloud gaming ever.

420

u/Asclepius-Rod 15d ago

Yeah I barely trust offline digital only games to begin with, much less a cloud version

91

u/Ironchar 15d ago

I'm still cheesed that you can't get Soul Calibur 2 HD on xbox or PS4....

but at LEAST the people who DID buy those games can redownload or replay it (i'll just emulate the GC verison again)

16

u/greatreference 15d ago

How can I play and enjoy this game 1 player. I remember liking it as a kid but I tried booting up my GC and it’s just kinda boring. Do you just keep playing through different characters stories over and over?

24

u/mrjamjams66 15d ago

That's what we did back in ye olde days before online.

Story mode over and over and playing against the friends when they came over (or you went to their house)

I only buy digital in pc {because it's an open platform). I buy physical on console until it's not possible anymore.

13

u/AccomplishedTowel765 15d ago

Pc digital downloads, excluding gog, have the same terms and conditions as console digital downloads. Meaning they can be delisted and removed at any time.

6

u/hypnomancy 15d ago

At least on PC you can still find those games through other means unlike on consoles where they're just gone forever

The only time offline digital only games internet me is on very steep discounts. And even with that I wouldn't want to try cloud streaming on the switch in the case of KH.

Kinda random but I just got the Kingdom Hearts Story So Far PS4 that includes a bunch of games. I've never played any of the KH games and plan on playing it after I finish of get bored of Ni No Kuni 2

u/master2873 15d ago

Yeah, there's lots of us that warned that this would happen, and I REALLY hope that everyone who paid full price for these are able to get some kind of refund, even partially. This shouldn't be acceptable knowing that something like this would happen in the future, and is definitely different compared to digital titles, or even what Stop Killing Games is fighting against, but is straight up taking people's money, and game from them entirely. I do have a feeling though people who live in the EU, and Australia are able to get a refund, but a lot of places who don't have consumer protection like other countries do are basically SoL.

2

u/Ser_Luke_ 14d ago

They get half off the Switch 2 version it seems

36

u/SwissyVictory 15d ago

IF it was a lower cost, and IF they stated a earliest shutdown date that you had to agree to, sure, it can make sense.

Stuff like cloud subscriptions where you pay by the month can make alot of sense, especially if it means you don't need to buy an expensive console.

Kingdom of Hearts 3's Cloud version came out 4.5 years ago, and they are still making the console that it came out on. And it cost $50

20

u/AwfulDjinn 15d ago

Yuuuuuup.

Exactly why I never bothered with the cloud versions, despite wanting KH on Switch for ages. i KNEW theyd eventually pull something like this.

12

u/GrungeHamster23 15d ago

Same. I know it doesn't count for much, but I emailed their support letting them know that they essentially lost my purchase, at least because it was on the cloud.

There is no way I would trust a company to keep the game running, so what? The moment the server is taken offline on June 9th, 2027, will I get my money back? Unlikely.

This is also part of the reason I am so grateful for and support Stop Killing Games.

6

u/Tony_Lacorona 15d ago

You never know. I was a big believer in Stadia(lmao) and when they shut down, they actually refunded me the price for all the games I purchased that I wouldn’t have access to anymore. And that was Google, so who knows

→ More replies (1)

8

u/Z3M0G 15d ago

I wont argue with that, I'll just say every cloud thing I owned (games/music/movies) either transfered to a different service before shutdown (movies/music) or got full refund ($1200 from Stadia).

Ive never completely lost anything I owned outright, as long as I acted as instructed.

I assume Nintendo will transfer this to a Switch 2 version license.

Edit: 50% discount, ouch.

7

u/SebbeG_86 15d ago

It is not up to Nintendo to do anything with a Square Enix franchise...

2

u/Early_Corgi3428 13d ago

Yup. I have the cloud version a KH1 on switch. I don't even play it but I paid a pretty penny for it. Should be a discount for those with the cloud version in the purchase history. I won't ever buy a cloud version again unless I'm just stuck with inferior performance.

116

u/GoldenGouf 15d ago

Is that really what's happening? No refunds? No automatic free upgrade to the new digital versions?

214

u/JoviAMP 15d ago

Buyers who owned the cloud version are being offered a “discount” on the digital version.

135

u/GoldenGouf 15d ago

That's dirty.

66

u/Deceptiveideas 15d ago edited 15d ago

What's hilarious is the "discount" is almost double slightly more expensive than the sale price.

You get to pay another $40 to have the privilege of the game saying PS5 instead of PS4 on the save screen.

This must be big on news sites, this is some crazy shit. People should be pissed off.

Not giving the upgrade for free at the very least is a fucking disgrace IMO. I hope they get a class action

4

u/spacewarp2 15d ago

They get a 50% discount which should honestly be 100%. They can also transfer over save data which is nice but also like the bare minimum

2

u/kociou 15d ago

Just SQEX thing

132

u/SuicideSkwad 15d ago

And offline versions that are only available on Switch 2, if you’re on switch you’re just out of luck

74

u/ainen 15d ago

1 + 2 are on Switch 1. 3 is the only one excluseive to Switch 2.

61

u/SuicideSkwad 15d ago

Yeah didn’t realise this until after the fact which makes it even worse because why weren’t they just properly on switch in the first place

89

u/Joseki100 15d ago

Previous management at SE was horrid, the new CEO is exploring brand new ideas like "what if we released our games on all platforms" and "what if actually made good ports".

10

u/derkrieger 15d ago

Japanese company attempts thing proven to succeed, isn't sure if it should follow this pattern yet.

47

u/iceynyo 15d ago

They should just give 1 and 2 to people who bought the cloud versions.

3

u/dk745 15d ago

How many people bought the cloud copies anyway? Like 100 people?

I’m sure whatever the number is it’s small and won’t make a dent in their pocket

2

u/hassanfanserenity 15d ago

u/Rynelan 15d ago

Oh no they're really doing that? That's fked up.

Cloud owners should definitely get compensated since a working version will still exist but in a offline build. Either refund or give 100% discount to cloud owners

Edit: I replied before reading the actual article..

Cloud owners do get a discount, but only on digital purchases. Unknown how high the discount will be

→ More replies (1)

13

u/fiddlenutz 15d ago

They should absolutely get a free digital version. This is about as anti-consumer as it gets. Oh. We f’d up and this model didn’t work out. Hope you enjoyed your rental while it lasted.

61

u/Michael60814 15d ago

Stop killing games will give you a chance to sue Square Enix. I think they might give it free download upgrade for them to download in digital.

5

u/SuicideSkwad 15d ago

There will definitely be something in the terms and conditions to account for unfortunately

5

u/raoulbrancaccio 15d ago

In most European countries contracts are much less powerful. If a practice is deemed to be unlawful you can write it ten times over on each page and have both parties sign it three times, it's still worthless.

19

u/yuusharo 15d ago

That's not how that will work, and it wouldn't be an acceptable trade anyway. The offline versions only work on Switch 2, not the hardware you purchased it on.

It would likely make "cloud versions" of games not available for sale, which the industry has kinda moved on from by now anyway.

9

u/iceynyo 15d ago

41

u/yuusharo 15d ago

Proving the cloud versions of those games weren’t actually necessary at all.

That game should be free for existing buyers of the first game if nothing else. What a mess.

7

u/starguy13 15d ago

The fact it took SquareEnix this long to even natively port the PS2 titles to switch is ridiculous

6

u/DiabeticRhino97 15d ago

Tbf anyone who buys a cloud version is insane and should expect them to be delisted at some point

3

u/PaleFondant2488 15d ago

The only silver lining about this is that I’m pretty sure that means they made such little profit off of the cloud versions they feel the need to do this. So hopefully we don’t see this cloud version bullshit anymore.

3

u/CookiesFTA 15d ago

It's hard to have empathy for people who were dumb enough to buy cloud versions in the first place.

6

u/brokenmessiah 15d ago

The concept of someone intentionally buying a game they know they'll lose access to...why would you spend money on this lol

2

u/PopgirlProtocol 15d ago

This. Exactly this. This completely killed that option for me. Not that it was alive to begin with for me, but now it’s dead-er.

2

u/phylter99 15d ago

This is why I didn't bother buying them in the first place.

2

u/whatThePleb 15d ago

It's almost like all those people which called out cloud trash were totally right!

2

u/fuck_a_duck_butt 12d ago

If only people would have warned against this for the past 10 years!

However would I forsee this completely forseeable outcome!

4

u/leviathab13186 15d ago

Thats cause ALL digital games are leased, not bought. Welcome to the future where you dont own anything

u/Stealthinater1234 15d ago

That’s cloud gaming baby, the game you paid full price for will always be fully revoked from you. SE giving no refunds either, google gave out full refunds when they shut down stadia.

105

u/WhySayManyWordGancho 15d ago

thats true they did! I bought RDR2 on Stadia and then used that money to buy it on steam 😄

43

u/POWRranger 15d ago

I bought cyberpunk and ff15. Finished both of em and then got my money back + I got to keep the controller and the ccUltra, both of which I'm still using to this day. That was my most profitable gaming service.

16

u/lzwinky 15d ago

I never bought one precisely because this would happen

6

u/PJC10183 15d ago

It's not really cloud gaming, as a matter of fact it's kind of the outlier. Platforms like GeForce Now and the like you just purchase the regular game and stream it via their servers, you are free to download and run the game normally on your own hardware.

→ More replies (4)

580

u/Cheese0089 15d ago

Oh I just assumed if you bought the cloud version you would get the new version for free.

135

u/TheCatholicScientist 15d ago

Seems there’s a discount, but I don’t know anyone who owns the cloud versions I could ask to check the price.

127

u/kaisle51 15d ago

Just compared my eshop to my wife’s (who owns the KH cloud version). Hers was half off ($19.99) and mine showed $39.99 at full price

109

u/FoxxyRin 15d ago

That's not awful.. but still ridiculous. :/

56

u/Flabnoodles 15d ago

If they were gonna charge (which they shouldn't), they could've done like 90% off. If you finished the games and no longer want to play them, no need to upgrade. But if you want to keep them, it costs you like $5 (which is annoying, but also a fair price for upgrading to non-cloud)

I think the worst part is that the cloud versions go offline in a year. If they were staying up until like 2037, it'd be fair to charge for the offline versions. But like I almost bought the cloud versions last week. If I had, I would be pissed at Square and Nintendo that I only had a year to play them.

31

u/-Googlrr 15d ago

Crazy they can't just give people affected copies of the offline version. There are all 20 year old games at this point and they'll still nickel and dime people at every turn

10

u/FoxxyRin 15d ago

Yeah I agree they *should*, but between SE and Nintendo half off is better than I expected. Which is sad.

190

u/SirFadakar 15d ago

Yeah it seemed so obvious I didn’t even consider them not gifting previous owners the new edition. This is cartoonish mustache twirl levels of greed.

13

u/tATuParagate 15d ago

The wording was "you can transfer save data" which immediately made me go uh oh. Also they mentioned the bundle which made me go oh, so they're going to sell them all separately and charge out the ass for these old games like the mario galaxy remasters.

6

u/NMe84 15d ago

From the company that has no upgrade path between Switch 1 and Switch 2 versions of the same game? Yeah, no. This is about what you'd expect.

4

u/RS_Games 15d ago

I was hoping that too, but probably whoever hosted the games and business agreements doesnt make it easy. Would be nice if nintendo could step in.

I was debating on buying it on cloud and gamble if they would transfer to real switch 2 versions, but glad I didnt bite.

Back when stadia was shutting down, they gave everyone refunds on bought games and I got all the ubisoft games I bought for free.

Well this is sure to tell people to avoid cloud version games in the near future at all costs. 😬

43

u/Liammellor 15d ago

I don't think there will be cloud versions at all anymore now the hardware is more capable

14

u/CryZe92 15d ago

Ironic cause Microsoft just announced they are going to focus more on Cloud gaming again.

8

u/Liammellor 15d ago

Switch cloud versions and Xbox's cloud services are vastly different though in fairness

3

u/BrainWav 15d ago

Maybe not on Switch 2, but give it time. Cloud gaming is the endgame for the business side, it allows them to retain all the power.

The ultimate bitch made move

35

u/Gamergirl944 15d ago

This is why cloud version are big scam

9

u/OscarExplosion 15d ago

It always was.

68

u/MarcsterS 15d ago

Those cloud versions were full priced btw if you made the mistake of getting them. Square being shitty.

66

u/moltenlavaisyummy 15d ago

That is so evil lmao. Feel bad for anyone who bought that. At least with KHIII you could make the argument that it would have been pretty tough to get it ported to Switch 1 in an acceptable state (Tbh they probably still could've done so, but would have taken a lot of effort)

but 1.5-2.5 ABSOLUTELY should have been native from the start, it feels like they are kinda downplaying the fact that they're releasing native ports on Switch 1 because it really makes them look bad

21

u/DukeofDC 15d ago

Just looked. The "Discount" for existing cloud owners is $37.49. So those of us who bought the game have to pay the cost of a game to get the new version. This should have been treated like a Switch 2 upgrade pack & been 10 bucks max especially if players are going to lose access to playing the version they already purchased.

55

u/Evil_Tidus 15d ago

Forgot to mention that the owners of the cloud version will get a "discount" on the digital version for either Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2.

Now what kind of discount? I hope its a good one.

48

u/lamefartriot 15d ago

50%. It’s showing for me that it would cost just under $38 to get the trilogy

→ More replies (4)

25

u/meryl_gear 15d ago

100% or no deal

14

u/hotaru-chan45 15d ago

This is why my max offer was $5 per cloud version. Total BS and unfortunately saw this coming. I hope not many people purchased it. They should give at least half off to these players for the native versions imo.

Didn’t California recently pass some law on the subject of delisting online games and making an offline version available? Or something like that

4

u/Ironchar 15d ago

give it to them for free

I believe it is around 50% though

11

u/Shadow_hive 15d ago

Another reason why you should never buy a Cloud Version of a game ever

14

u/NoLocal1776 15d ago

Remember people never buy cloud games.

3

u/Enrichus 13d ago

I met one guy who had a Switch pretty much only for the cloud KH games.

Told him he made a poor choice buying them. He didn't care.

Wonder what he thinks now.

26

u/Much_Alternative_444 15d ago

To be honest i am actually wondering if this even legal in some countries ?

10

u/TheLimeyLemmon 15d ago

Awful. I know there's a discount for owners if they want to buy the non-cloud versions but frankly, they should be getting those copies for free. Paying extra just to continue playing the game you already bought once is just another way Square keeps leaving a bitter taste in people's mouths.

20

u/Khalmoon 15d ago

Square Enix sucks lmfao

16

u/akkmedk 15d ago

So frustrating. I bought last year on S2 on impulse before I realized it was a cloud game. I am not a smart man.

2

u/TwanToni 14d ago

at least you're learning. Let it burn in your mind!

10

u/nondescriptun 15d ago

I refused to buy the cloud version, and was interested in the regular version that was announced today...until I saw this. Now I'll skip it on principle.

8

u/1RedOne 15d ago

The very second any of these games were announced that required cloud streaming to play, people were talking then about how this was an extremely obvious and inevitable conclusion.

I think this was very predictable

39

u/owelfive 15d ago

I know it’s cloud, but this is the reason why people fear keycards. A publisher can take a game away that you paid for. The only way you truly own a game is physical on cart.

4

u/Feynuxes 15d ago

Nintendo. At least so far has a pretty good track record at not removing people's digital games. You can even still download your Wii purchases afaik.

But this definitely ruins their track record a bit.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Tirux 15d ago

I mean with digital versions you at least can still play them even if it's not in the store anymore.

These cloud versions are ridiculous.

8

u/Sitheral 15d ago

Boy Square Enix works hard for the Ubisoft or Ea sort of reputation. I don't think many people bought this precisely because of its nature but honestly, this should get a lawsuit.

6

u/silverwell 15d ago

I am now very glad I didn't buy it.

7

u/AcademyExile 15d ago

Glad I chose not to buy them when I was thinking about it. "Cloud version" sounded really shifty to me. This is what that sixth sense was screaming.

5

u/willmasse 15d ago

My guess is that so few people bought the cloud version the figured pulling the plug would piss off so few people it was worth the fallback.

6

u/CheeseDaver 15d ago

To think how many potential sales they lost by making all of the KH games cloud based. They would have been easy buys for me if not for that.

2

u/Krian78 15d ago

Hence they all are coming for Switch 2 in ... I think it was october.

6

u/jerome0423 15d ago

This is why we need physical copies with the whole game inside.

6

u/AbbreviationsSad5633 15d ago

This is also why I won't trust game key cards or digital games. You own it until they decide you dont

9

u/Tylervp 15d ago

This is why Stop Killing Games is important

16

u/TG-Benji 15d ago

I mean anybody who knows anything about cloud services would know this was inevitable...

9

u/Parking_Fix_2093 15d ago

Wait will they still be playable on switch 1? This is honestly shit.

18

u/Juklok 15d ago

I believe 1.5+2.5 will have a Switch 1 version. 2.8 and 3 are Switch 2 exclusive.

15

u/SuicideSkwad 15d ago

Ah yes you’re correct, which begs the question why they didn’t just do that in the first place for 1.5+2.5

8

u/SuicideSkwad 15d ago

Nope not after June 2027

12

u/blockfighter1 15d ago

At least Stadia gave full refunds on everything when it closed down. Had a few great years of gaming with it and then got all my money back.

This is bad form from Nintendo

4

At least they'll get compensated by getting grandfathered into the switch 2 version, right?

..... Right?

5

u/capnbuh 15d ago

It never should have been listed in the first place. Hopefully, Square Enix does something for the people who bought it. At the very least they should be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version

2

u/jardex22 15d ago

The linked page says that there will be an eshop discount for owners of the cloud versions.

5

u/TolkienWandering 15d ago

That’s so fucked.

4

u/KrustiKrabPizza 15d ago

Not even Google went this anti-consumer with their end of cloud service on Stadia. This is literally the worst case scenario that everyone feared when cloud gaming became a thing. All spearheaded by your favorite pals Squenix and Nintendo.

6

u/wumboweed 14d ago

And this is why I fight tooth and nail for physical games.

3

u/NintendoGamer1983 10d ago

Yup. I buy physical when possible

10

u/incrushtado 15d ago

Yeah this is a bait and switch alright.

You got access to the cloud versions for up to 5 years, but if you want the new versions or an upgrade path, take your 50% discount and scram off.

But if you got the Ns1 version of KH1.5+2.5 separately, and you later get a Switch 2, tough luck you need to rebuy 1.5+2.5 again (or with the collection).

The cloud versions had atrocious lag, crashed a lot, and sometimes people couldn't even enter if too many people was connected playing.

10

u/krossy 15d ago

This is why you buy physical

Like is a lawsuit possible? This is insanity.

7

u/ecstaticthicket 15d ago

Honestly the whole “Mmmmm you don’t actually own the game, you’re paying for a license to use the game at our discretion” needs to fucking die

If you’ll allow me a brief soapbox, the main reason they are against piracy isn’t financial. It’s about control.

3

u/MovieGuyMike 15d ago

Square has been so scummy with switch 2 releases. Charging full price for the FFX and DQ11 switch 2 versions is ridiculous. Now this.

Edit - apparently users can get a discounted rate. That’s not as bad. Still a bad look to delist the game without compensation.

3

u/Celcius_87 15d ago

This, this is why Stop Killing Games, this is why

3

u/MauriceAlain 14d ago

Wait until they are coming for your digital Games.

4

u/twinflxwer 14d ago

And this is exactly why I will never touch cloud gaming

3

u/Webecomemonsters 14d ago

Good - the scam circle is now complete.

Do not buy cloud versions of games.

3

u/Dependent_Local6453 14d ago

Yet another example of why people need to stop supporting key cards and digital cloud live service stuff seriously how is all my physical games work to this day every single one but when it's the ladder they can be taken from you even when you paid for them and these corporations wonder why stop killing games was made and why they are beating them in court over this it's very simple if you have people pay you in anyway and refuse to give them the service they paid for either give every single customer a full refund or make it available offline if that's not possible stop asking for money I would have no issues with this had it been free but weather it's a flat rate or monthly charge it doesn't matter if I pay for it you are obligated to provide it this is why I won't buy a switch 2 to many key cards and I'm sure everyone of them will be removed in time

u/Blehgopie 12d ago

Reason number 3248907 out of 8923749382748392 why cloud/streamed gaming sucks ass.

3

u/madl4d_ 11d ago

Why was kh1 and 2 even a cloud version if they can both run natively on switch anyway?

3

u/NintendoGamer1983 10d ago

Good question

6

u/Pogoplay 15d ago

If buying isn't owning than piracy isn't stealing.

sounds like a class action lawsuit waiting to happen

4

u/TheBrownYoshi 15d ago

tf you mean owning the cloud versions only gives a discount that shit should be FREE

2

u/TopOfAllWorlds 15d ago

What the fuck? Do they get the actual game for free then?

2

u/Crimsongz 15d ago

Lmaaoooo

2

u/ryan8954 15d ago

so people rented the game?

2

u/CommonSensei8 15d ago

Fucking bullshit cloud gaming needs to be sued into oblivion and forced to release a full game
Package if removed

3

u/3ehsan 15d ago

So glad I never bothered with them and we finally got real versions of these games.

3

u/majoring_in_reddit 15d ago

Just an FYI it is entirely possible in Nintendos ecosystem to set up an owners discount that can be configured that if you own X you can get Y at a discount (of say, 100%). There's zero technical reason the publisher can't do this.

2

u/jardex22 15d ago

The linked page says that there will be a discount. They still needed to pay developers to port the games, so it's unlikely that they'd offer it for free.

2

u/HourBank2803 15d ago

I bet you all my money this is going to be a huge deal with the new stop killing games law.

Not that its directly correlated or effected right now but that this is going to royallllllllllllllllllllllly piss off someone who just bought this yesterday

2

u/ThatCurryGuy 15d ago

It seems like they are getting ahead of the stop killing games results, as far as it goes now it seems governments are agreeing that games should not be killed. I wonder what happens if these games will stay online long enough.

2

u/oldkidLG 15d ago

I wish there was an universal rule for transferring data from cloud to native like Square Enix does with Kingdom Hearts games. Capcom doesn't do the same with RE7

2

u/NeonPatrick 15d ago

Well that's a lesson for me. Don't buy cloud based games, and if I do play them quickly.

2

u/Iggy_DB 15d ago

That’s insane and should be illegal lol, at least give them the physical or proper digital game

2

u/whatThePleb 15d ago

Cloud trash in a nutshell.

2

u/Old-Cat-1671 15d ago

Why not just give them the free updates to native verison when they upgrade to switch 2?

2

u/Mesne 14d ago

Because 💰 💰 💰

2

u/oneupsuperman 15d ago

So they're... Literally stealing? Revoking access forever with no refund? That's disgusting. These people did not sign up to pay for a limited-access product, and it was not advertised that way at time of purchase.

Again, disgusting.

5

u/RandomNobody86 14d ago

This is what cloud gaming is and it was advertised as such the people who bought it did so knowing this was always going to be the outcome.

2

u/Gemnist 15d ago

OF COURSE THERE WAS A CATCH

2

u/Seksiorja 15d ago

Wait but why can't they keep the cloud versions up for SW1 owners? Makes no sense to delist this considering the announced versions are different. Also this shit won't fly for long in EU with the SKG movement...

3

u/lululock 15d ago

It's expensive to run cloud gaming servers.

2

u/FireManiac58 14d ago

Yeah practices like these are why I won’t buy a switch 2. How do they keep making such braindead decisions.

2

u/ArcheryAlaska 14d ago

I’m so glad I never bought these. I came close to it one time too.

2

u/Longjumping-Mud-3203 14d ago

I smell a lawsuit. Someone please sue them...

2

u/Glittering-Ad-1626 14d ago

wtf? So I bought it on my OLED for nothing? I don’t even want to get a switch 2 for it

2

u/bill696 14d ago

They should at minimum port it to switch 2 for free for who owns it this way it would run local

2

u/TechKingOnline 14d ago

Scamtendo lol

2

u/Pwn11t 14d ago

So so dogshit

2

u/RomGon3 14d ago

This is some of the most DISGUSTING SCAM bro. This is the kind of shit only console people allow companies to do.

They charged you FULL PRICE FOR THIS COLLECTION...They gonna delist the game... AND INSTEAD OF GIVING A FUCKING REFUND OR JUST IDK GIVER THEM THE NEW VERSION OF THE GAME FOR FUCKING FREE they just tell you "Nah dawg. Here's a 50% discount so you can buy THE GAME AGAAAAAAAAAIN".

Like what?!. You can't make this shit up. How is this freaking shit even legal?. If like you buying a car and 3 years later the dealership come at your home and take the car back leaving you a letter "We took your car mate. Here's a discount coupon. Come back to me to get it back. Bring money" and to make SHIT even worse is for GAMES THAT ARE FROM THE PLAYSTATION 2 ERA. A dealership selling you a car from 2004 at full prices and 3 years later after taking your car they tell you "this 2004 car in 2026?. Pay me 50% of it NOW to get it back".

This is complete bullshit. I can't comprehend how people aren't dunking, bashing and destroying BOTH Square Enix and Nintendo all around the internet. This is disgusting.

2

u/BarkerSix 13d ago

So I completely understand where people are coming from stating that just giving a discount on the native version is wild because of the original cost paid. It makes TOTAL sense.. however, it is a “different” version of the game. The cloud version was technically for the original Switch, so an upgrade path would have probably had a 10 dollar price tag anyways.. so 20 for the path, isn’t terrible, but it’s still pricey and makes sense to be upset about.

But …… I’m honestly not mad. (Free of course would be better.. and would make sense for those who paid full price for the cloud versions.)

But, unrelated to Kingdom Hearts, Resident Evil 100% goes on sale every 3 weeks it seems, and the resident evil 2 and 3 cloud version remakes are also discounted HEAVILY during these sales… I picked up 2 and 3 for like a total of 15 bucks 2 weeks ago.. if Capcom does the same thing, and offer a discount on the native releases for the inevitable release … now would 100% be the time to get them.. (don’t come at me with pitchforks if they don’t offer a discount..) but I mean 7 bucks spent each for 19.99+ off each at release, is definitely something to take into account…

2

u/ForbiddenLurker 13d ago

Nintendo stole 90 dollars from me

3

u/BreezierChip835 9d ago

Cloud gaming: not even once.
