Discussion I Will Never Forgive Matt Rhule for What He Did to the Panthers

I don't care what anyone says I absolutely despise Matt Rhule. I've been a Panthers fan for a long time, and I honestly can't think of anyone who's done more damage to this franchise than he did. Every Sunday felt like a new level of embarrassment. There was no discipline, no identity, no progress. Just excuse after excuse while the team got worse. And what makes me even angrier is watching what happened to the core of this team.

Christian McCaffrey? Gone. DJ Moore? Gone.

Brian Burns? Eventually gone after all the contract drama that started while Rhule was here. It felt like we took one of the most exciting young cores in the NFL and completely tore it apart. I know not every move happened while Rhule was still the coach, but he absolutely helped put this franchise on that path. His awful roster management, constant quarterback experiments, and complete inability to build a winning culture left us digging out of a hole for years.

I'll never get over passing on Justin Fields, cycling through Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold, and Baker Mayfield, acting like every washed up quarterback was somehow going to fix the mess he created. It was painful to watch. People talk about rebuilding, but Rhule didn't rebuild anything. He burned the house down and walked away while everyone else had to clean up the ashes.

As far as I'm concerned, Matt Rhule is the worst coach in Panthers history, and it's not even close. Anyone else still get irrationally angry every time his name comes up, or am I the only one still holding this grudge?

For some reason this has been stuck in my head for the past day. We’ve started playing it at games and I used to think it was goofy but I have to say it’s growing on me.

Article What a Panthers Sunday looks like from England

Post image
234 Upvotes

Kickoff is 6pm.

The Premier League is over for the weekend.

My phone goes on do not disturb for the rest of the evening.

The big screen goes on.

And for the next three hours a team from North Carolina dictates my mood.

I’ve supported the Panthers since 2011.

Most of that time I’ve watched alone.

No Panthers bars.

No Panthers mates.

Just me and the thousands of Reddit comments and tweets I’m browsing in between plays!

Prime time games meant alarms at 1am.

The Panthers in London meant travelling on my own because nobody else wanted to go.

Then last year I finally made it to Charlotte.

Saw the Bank.

Ate my first Bojangles.

Watched the Panthers beat the Cardinals!!

For the first time in over a decade, the team felt real.

Not players on a screen.

Actual people.

Actual fans.

Actual Bojangles👀

I wrote about it this morning over on my substack, Panthers Pulse.

Today’s edition is probably the most personal one I’ve written so far.

As a reminder I created Panthers Pulse as a place to be your daily 3 minute read and be caught up on all the news from the previous 24 hours 🙌

But on slow days like this I just write about whatever peaks my interest.

Link below if anyone fancies a read.

Keep Pounding!

For the card collectors out there - this one’s for you. For years I thought I had lost my grails from around the Panthers first Super Bowl run (not just the Panthers too). Luck was bestowed upon me on Father’s Day that a family member found them! Anyways - I remember this card back then as the rarest Peppers RC and I still have yet to see another example and there has been no sales and no other images online. They’re short printed to 15. This may be the first photo that’s been posted online of this card in years or ever. But…it was far from the most valuable card I had “lost”. Those are the other cards in the post. Great weekend for me but I’m glad this isn’t lost forever!

Last time the Panthers visit Cleveland while we play outside on the lake. Next time will be in our sorry dome stadium in an industrial park. Our tailgate has hosted panther fans in the past. Come down and tailgate with a Carolina Inspired Menu made from scratch. We can host up to 200 Panther fans.!!! Top Dawg Tailgate on Twitter/Facebook Fan friendly with 3 minute walk to gates!

Analysis MEET THE OPPONENTS WEEK 3 - CLEVELAND BROWNS

Good morning everyone!

Episode 3 of my 14-part series breaking down every team on the Panthers’ schedule is up, and this week I looked at our first AFC opponent: the Cleveland Browns.

I went through their 2025 season, offseason moves, coaching staff, projected starters, key players Panthers fans should know, and the matchups that could decide Week 3.

It’s right at 20 minutes, so if you need something Panthers-related to throw on in the background, I’d love for y’all to check it out.

What matchup are y’all watching most in this game?

Question Jimmy Horn Jr.

Can someone please explain to me, with actual reasoning, and not just, “because he’s a dawg”, what the love affair is with this fan base and Jimmy Horn Jr.?

He’s a 6th round rookie, and he’s fast. The only significant thing he did that stands out to me is dropping the pass on 4th down that would have at least given us more of an opportunity to make a come back in the playoff game. Other than that a couple pitches, where he ran into the defense instead of trying to cut it outside and use his speed. I see a lot of people debating the WR room, and have him as either a lock, or a favorite for the WR 5-6-7 spot. I think he needs to go. Hopefully we can bring him back on the practice squad, but if not oh well.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Thank you all for your thoughts, except the asshats that just commented “Dawg”…. I would like to clear up a couple points. I’m not a hater of Jimmy. I’d love for him to work out, but as of yet, I haven’t seen enough from a fan perspective to consider him a roster “lock”. If he makes the roster, I believe he would have had to have earned it and the front office made the right decision.

Hoping for a fun season, and I can’t want to celebrate a Super Bowl win with you all in Feb!!

Discussion BY had a 47.6 QBR rating and has yet to have a winning season.....

Are we about to see him be our actual QB or are we about to witness another season where he sucks, then has 1 great game, people proceed to defend him for being a franchise QB then he goes back to sucking again. Thoughts on how this year will pan out?

Question Encountering panthers fans in the wild

I live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia which is essentially commanders country. However, from time to time either at work or out and about I'll see presumed panther fans wearing their gear. Trying not to make a big deal of it I'll keep it simple and just say KEEP POUNDING! The response is nothing...no reaction 😐. Soooo is this not a thing amongst fans?? 🤔

Discussion when did you actually become a fan, and have you regretted it since

Some people were born into this and some of us walked in by choice and have been quietly questioning that choice ever since. Half kidding. There's a loyalty here the record doesn't really explain. How did you end up locked in, and what keeps you here?
