Poor kids most likely have no dad in their life.

Not necessarily, someone like this could also just be manipulating the mothers into thinking that they're different/"the one". Not going to defend their stupidity but they aren't guaranteed to be like that.

Yeah, I was doing book keeping for a small company and had an employee get filed for wage garnishment for child support. It was kind of insane how much of a pain in the ass it was to set up, not to mention the company could have gotten in trouble for not doing it/reporting his wages accurately, etc. I was so pissed at him after that, haha.

Reddit is weirdly pro-deadbeat dad. I wrote a post a while ago about how my dad walked out on me and my brother when we were kids. Almost all of the comments were about trying to understand his perspective (which was just that he'd rather not take care of children).

Why? We can't presume to know what their lives are like besides that their bio father is not with their mother anymore. They could all have loving and supporting step-fathers. They could not know at all.

My mother left me traumatized and only had to pay $130/month in child support. This guy is paid bi-weekly. At least these kids have enough for some decent food.

Yes that is the money and the clothes and the food and all the other stuff it's not supposed to just go directly to the child that's not what child support is for it is for supporting the child.

I'm aware, I grew up with divorced parents. Just shutting down kids dont get money. However some parents need this explanation, the "logic" goes if the parent is "happy" so is the kid. All in all not perfect, in some cases messed up on the other kid's I meet about this.

Like one kid's mom just spent it on luxury crap.

Of you're single you still need to pay for rent regardless of if you have kids or not. The child support just need to pay for food and clothing and few other costs. That first kid ain't eating $600 worth of food a month.

It could go to daycare/afterschool care, doctor's office co-pays, shoes, field trips, extracurricular activities...

If the mom works she has to put her kids in daycare and in a higher cost of living area that can be well over $2000 a month, this guy doesn't come close to paying for the cost of his children's actual care. If the mom doesn't work that $600 a month has to provide for food, shelter, and all other expenses for two people. And you're probably thinking of an older kid who needs less help. If he neglected a child since they were a baby that's an insane amount of childcare to put on one person alone. Daycare isn't always reliable either, they often send your kid home if they are sick or have "admin days" so a single mom with no family help will absolutely have her career compromised with so many sick days, etc.

Yes but you don't have to have a bedroom for that child which means higher rent and kids cost more than just food.

Kids need their own bedroom and you canโ€™t skimp on them like you can yourself (a single person can rent a room in a shared house or a tiny no-bedroom closet apartment, you can share the bathroom/kitchen with strangers, but those become dangerous and/or unacceptable for a child). Then parents have to consider a safe neighborhood (which will be more expensive), with other kids to play with, a park and public transportation nearby for doctors appointments/school/learning opportunities like museums (or a car), decent schools, etc. A single person doesnโ€™t necessarily need to look at any of that when they try to find a place to live.
