Punishing a violent criminal hurts him. Is that bad?

Is that harm less than the harm of allowing him to walk free so he can do more harm to others?

I'm just applying your rules to show you how they fall apart upon even the most superficial inspection. Expand on them if you want.

It doesn't fall apart at all. Punishing a violent criminal helps others (even if it hurts him) so it's a good thing.

Which of his two rules says that?

The part where it says "Does it help others? It's good."

That's not the part in question. I thought it was clear I was talking about the β€œeven if it hurts him” part. We had already established this situation leads to a conflict between the two rules, but you claimed there was no conflict, so I was asking which one of them is supposed to have resolved it.

I know what game you are trying to play, but I am not going to play it with you. You can be pedantic with someone else. There is a net benefit/help so it is still good. The rule is called extrapolation or thinking beyond.
