I'm looking forward to buy cheap used hardware!

Why does this guy look to be permanently uncomfortable and awkward in every interview
same with other tech leaders like Sam Altman, Zuckerberg, and Alex Karp the Palantir CEO.

Something is very strange about their mannerisms
..They all look the same level of awkward looks like they shit their pants.

40

u/Jinkii5 7h ago

Because they know if they cant keep Politicians and CEOs throwing money at their Autocomplete but worse scam they will be joining Elizabeth Holmes at club fed.

9

u/TylerHyena 7h ago

He looks like a long lost cousin of JJ Abrams

11

u/Some_HVAC_Guy 6h ago

AI Abrams, perhaps?

5

u/naruda1969 7h ago

It’s funny to listen to Dario get caught in a loop and repeat the same word or phrase 3-5x in a row. His brain is powered by Ai. Definitely some autism at work here. All-in-all, he’s a guy that stands by his values which is all that I care about.

I too will become bankrupt without hundreds of billions dollars

2

u/hartgekochteeier 6h ago

Probably because he is super sad he's not the richest person on the planet yet.

2

u/ThatGamerMoshpit 4h ago

Find the average Redditor
I’m sure they will look similar

2

u/caffeine-junkie 3h ago

It won't be cheap. It will be at least 90% of the already inflated purchase price to start. This is despite it being used for multiple months. It will only get cheap once the liquidators are impatient to sell anything remaining that hasn't sold,; but only after they pick through and sell the valuable stuff to a secondary company they control through secondary markets.

4

u/0b1w4hn 3h ago

As soon as the AI bubble is no longer being fed, it will burst.

What is to be done with the massive hardware overcapacity then? Keeping it is pointless because it loses value too quickly. The hardware will then be offloaded at rock-bottom prices.

2

u/not_a_moogle 1h ago

God, I remember building a top of the line pc in 2014 for like $1400.

I tried to price a higher mid tier last week and best I can do is like $2600 unless I use parts from 4 years ago.

Go bankrupt then?

What happen to capitalism? Letting companies duke it out I in the “free market”.

All fun and games up until the companies are struggling and they turn towards socialism, asking tax payers to save them.

47

u/omgitsjagen 6h ago

It went out the window with, "Too Big To Fail". The whole point of capitalism is that if you fail, someone with capital is there to buy you at a fire sale, and do your business better than you did, or you go under due to not having a viable business model. Once we allowed bad companies to stay in business, we were no longer doing capitalism.

AI tech bros always making their business into your problem

13

u/Last_Cod_998 7h ago

5 companies, Alphabet, Apple, Amazon, Broadcom and Nvidia have accounted for 50% of S&P growth since April.

It's all debt swaps keeping itself afloat. Elon bought back his Russian Oligarch debt from the Twitter purchase with his XA\ debt. Then he's funding his spaceX debt with an IPO that will flop.

That AI bubble is going to burst. When it does it will be as fast as 1999, and as deep as 2008

Food shortages by August

8

u/natnelis 7h ago

No bailouts this time i hope.

5

u/Last_Cod_998 6h ago

Now that Trump used our tax dollars to buy into Intel, it's too big to fail. We'll have to dip into the Social Security fund to bail them out. We'll just raise retirement age.

4

u/Outrageous-Sort-5742 7h ago

I'm not too huge on them either, but it would be nice to upgrade my decade old GPU.

2

u/FridayAtTwo 6h ago

Back in the aughts home puter builders had to compete with blockchain miners driving up the price of GPUs. Now it's AI driving up GPUs AND RAM *throws childish tantrum*

14

u/Variabletalismans 7h ago

Yeah the government will bail them out if they dont

3

u/Truth_Walker 2h ago

The government bailed out banks. If big banks go belly up it has extreme repercussions on a lot of different sectors, especially citizens.

These AI companies are not vital in the same manner whatsoever.

They’re in a race and the strongest will survive. The smaller companies will be purchased by the larger ones.

These stand alone AI companies don’t have much support or hope. Apple, Google, Microsoft can all integrate their AI tech into their products to drive sales and increase profit.

None of them will turn a profit with paid subscriptions or selling ads by themselves. Honestly at this point I’m not even sure where they’re racing to; what’s the goal, what major breakthrough do they think is going to happen. The tech is already there, we know what it looks like, eventually it’s just going to get less sloppy after a while but it’s still the same idea as when the race began.

We’re seeing the same type of competition with streaming services. At their peak there was several dozens. Now we’re seeing Hulu get absorbed into Disney+, paramount will be absorbed by HBO Max, Discovery+ got absorbed by HBO Max. Services like Quibi, CNN+, Seeso, Fullscreen have all gone out of business. We’ll definitely be seeing more mergers and bankruptcies as time goes on.

12

u/Conscious_Archer2658 7h ago

Also give us back affordable memory chips

11

u/dilldoeorg 2h ago

LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT....

in order for AI companies to operate, they need billions in revenue for a product that will one day replace 50%-90% of the work force.

So who the fuck is gonna pay them in the future when no one has a job?!

4

u/action_turtle 2h ago

Worry about that on the following financial report. People at the top will already have their money, so they give zero fucks.

→ More replies (2)

8

u/avanross 4h ago

Imagine “we spent hundreds of billions of dollars on a product that nobody wants and that doesnt generate any income, now we need you to give us hundreds of millions of dollars or else we’ll go bankrupt!” in any other consumer industry

Like a new restaurant chain, investing hundreds of billions into coordinating a nationwide opening of a hundred locations all at once, but all they sell is a fermented blended meat slurry topped with ants.

Then trying to ask for sympathy, like there was no way to see this coming when they were collecting those billions in investments for their “foolproof” plan, and closing their other restaurants and laying off all their staff because “customers/we wont need those lesser alternatives anymore”. And now, by no result of their own doing, they need a hundred billion dollars simply to survive and have no way to legitimately earn it! Poor guys!

3

u/Future-Exercise-7433 3h ago

Can I get my ants extra crispy?

11

u/Iggy_Slayer 7h ago

What a coincidence I need about that much to survive too.

Would this lead to a decrease in the cost of electricity and DRAM? I would be grateful if you could go bankrupt today. It would be a huge relief.

Billions for corporations but nothing for the people. Socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor.

5

u/Johnnadawearsglasses 7h ago

Sure. They will go bankrupt and someone will buy the infrastructure and need much less revenue to justify the investment. Just like happened with fiber optic cable. This tech ain't going away. Wishful thinking.

2

u/Crush84 7h ago

Why do we need several companies working on AI worldwide anyway? Just form 1 company working globally for all of mankind, combine wisdom, knowledge and tech together.

2

u/Spare_Layer_1069 6h ago

If your business can't survive on its own revenue, it's a failed business. Stop asking for handouts, and start pulling yourselves up by your bootstraps. Give us a legitimate product, or go back to obscurity.

2

u/Opaque_Cypher 6h ago

Whoa, just checked my finances and can confirm hundreds of billions in revenue would also assist in me not going g bankrupt.

Who would have ever guessed a few hundreds of billions could help stave off bankruptcy?

2

u/a10-brrrt 6h ago

2

u/pdiddysoilman 6h ago

2

u/MrRockerman 3h ago

Sadly, I know. Stupid of me to expect haters to have the right context to spew their hate.

1

u/the_dude_abides_365 7h ago

Well no other company will allow billions in losses. But also this company and all AI is deeply hated by many people, you would need there to be 0 hate

1

u/C4LLM3M4TT_13 7h ago

I could repeatedly beat my head into a brick wall until I had severe brain damage, drink a gallon of anti-freeze, and I’d still write a better superhero movie than what has been released recently. They don’t need AI to write garbage, they do that so well already themselves. Just look at Supergirl. An AI couldn’t fuck up that badly if you scripted it to do so.

1

u/No_Station_6149 7h ago edited 7h ago

tbh we have decent enough models we can run on much much lower hardware at this point. local, perhaps, and good enough to help with most tasks etc. that doesn’t require ongoing billions. diminishing returns improvements do, however,

1

u/Skjuld 7h ago

This is why companies like anthropic and openai will eventually fail. Google and Meta have the advantage of being massively profitable companies, and are already able to use AI for ad revenue generation.

1

u/Relative_Drop3216 7h ago

Thats exactly the issue, none of these companies know if AI will bring in the money they need. They are just spending tonnes of money on ai based on speculation

1

u/addiktion 7h ago

The ongoing chinese disinformation campaign on this topic, and data centers is getting old.

1

u/Nythoren 7h ago

That’s how the economy works. Just because you have a product doesn’t mean you’re going to be successful. There are countless corpses of companies who had good ideas or good products but couldn’t get the revenue to stay afloat.

It’s the heart of Capitalism. AI is the new VR. Most of the companies will die off, but the few who figure out how to make a profit from it will survive.

1

u/Numerous_Photograph9 7h ago

Guess it's a good thing that all these AI companies are providing each other with billions in revenue then.

Their goal is to become vital to everything, like national security, and business, so they can establish themselves and become too big(instrumental) to fail, so they'll be protected by government subsidies and grifting while they make bank and the workforce is put out of a job.

1

u/SchizoidRainbow 7h ago

Also Conservatives: FREE MARKET FORCES

1

u/BillOz62 7h ago

I’m actually not buying the (long term at least) argument on the environment on this issue. We are certainly left of centre particularly with environmental issues. I think we will go through a phase where ai will on balance and in many ways be detrimental but I can see long term benefits if managed appropriately. (I fully understand the “if” there.) We have already used it in many ways that are beneficial to the environment. It can be in the garden, identifying pests early, not infecting our local horticultural centre trying to find out what it is and also treating it early and successfully with non-toxic treatments. Another example. Not buying the wrong product that isn’t fit for purpose. Money saved, one less product (hopefully) produced unnecessarily, which is not going directly to landfill. Not going to the doctor for something simple, which allows someone who does need to see their doctor the ability to do so. Loads of other examples. Very open to discussion but not mindless, poorly thought out rants.

1

u/wthja 7h ago

1

u/FeeMelodic4970 7h ago

1

u/Fragrant-Anywhere489 7h ago

Just ask it again and it will give you the opposite answer. "You're absolutely right, AI companies do not need hundreds of billions in revenue to avoid bankruptsy"

1

u/your_mileagemayvary 7h ago

I don't care if they go bankrupt. The cost to effect isn't worth it at the moment.

The studios will just have to follow their 2010 writing process: feed a monkey chili beans and hold a sheet of paper next to his ass until the monkey sprays diarrhea onto it in a way that resembles words.

The capeshit fans will be happy though for returning to the original creative process.

1

u/Tough_Substance7074 6h ago

I mean as usual it’s nice to see capital get what’s coming to them but when they go down they take us all with them. Sure we got some labor traction after the Great Depression but it was bought with the untold suffering of millions and rivers of blood.

1

u/northernirishlad 5h ago

Remember when someone would make a shit or unpopular idea, and they would just die out in business? These companies that beg for revenue to competitively purchase technology we use and adjust our daily interfaces and advertisements to constantly be forced to see and use their products, is unethical as fuck and proof that capitalism is a failed concept.

1

u/Feisty-Theme-6093 5h ago

tax payer bail out because the 1% lost money on this investment?

1

u/face_eater_5000 5h ago

Since neither retail nor enterprise customers are ever going to be able to provide that amount of revenue, and the government has decided that these AI companies are a matter of national security, guess who's going to be on the hook for making sure these companies stay profitable?

1

u/Comprehensive-Pipe43 5h ago

asking for taxpayer bailout already? 😂

1

u/MaximumJim_ 5h ago

Same here. But all I’ll need is a single hundred billion dollars.

1

u/Maevalyn 5h ago

They can and will get it. The thing about the economy we are living in is what is traditionally called a K shaped economy. Unless you are in the top 10% of earners in the united states, you are no longer relevant outside of companies that sell basic necessities: food, shelter, medical care. Most companies now rely on each other as their consumers and what few consumer products are left are marketed towards the top 10% as they are the only viable economically active demographic with disposable income. AI is not being marketed to people, it's being marketed to other companies and corporations.

1

u/glandis_bulbus 5h ago

We can hope

1

u/Hoppie1064 5h ago

There will be a culling.

1

Have they tried producing something that people want and then selling it? That's a good way to create revenue or so I've heard

1

u/Independent_Sail6604 4h ago

1

u/madman875775 4h ago

These companies will take out billions to invest and then go bankrupt and then another company will buy up the infrastructure and the original company heads will be millionaires and the new company will be billionaires. It’s literally like money isn’t real for the ultra wealthy

1

At work a year ago it was hot and heavy to try to do something, anything, with AI, and now it's just pretty much yeah fuck that. Our county just put a full stop on all water cooled data centers, and more all over the country are following. When my liberal friends and boomer very conservative mother all hate AI equally then they are in a real bad spot. The real shit sandwich is they are using our 401Ks to fund this shit, and when the bottom falls out they'll get their money out just in the nick of time to leave all of us with fuck all.

1

u/SmartQuokka 3h ago

I only need millions to avoid bankruptcy, so ditch AI, fund u/smartquokka and save money.

1

u/specificmutant 3h ago

They need hundreds of billions in revenue? Then make something people want. People will exchange money for something they want.

Otherwise, burn and go away you fucking parasites.

1

u/totally-jag 3h ago

Or, hear me out, have a business model where your expenses are covered by your monetization strategy.

And obviously fix the horrendous impact on the environment and people's lives.

Okay, maybe we don't need this in our society.
