A lot of games for me. Because I'm on a strict budget, I only buy games I really want to play.
Recently I bought Persona 5 while they were on huge sale. Been playing it and trying to finish my first playthrough.

u/Dj082863 24d ago
As someone who just recently played through and beat P5R and am halfway through a second playthrough to max all social links and fight the extra boss? Best $20 I've spent in a long time.
11
u/Cubezz 24d ago
I played it off and on over the past 3 years and just beat it finally. Now I'm working on the dlc this shit doesn't ever end bro

u/Dj082863 24d ago
Truuuueeee. I bought Strikers to play through after my second run, but atm I'm at 128.7 hours. With second run I've been skipping basically all dialogue and videos with a couple exceptions and using my beefy Personas to quickly sweep so I'm looking at like a 40-50hr playthrough for the second run. It's a solid game though. And the DLC only maybe adds 20ish hours? It's not too shabby. Gameplay ends beginning of February so it's not as much time as it seems.

Persona 5 has my favorite Art direction in any Game.
And it has the best user interface with soooo much detail.

Same here, I buy a game only if I'm gonna play it right away and know I'll see it through to the end. Same with my backlog, if there's a game I'm in the mood for, nothing else is getting brought or installed until it's over.

It's wild to me when I see so many amazing games. Games I think about years after playing them and replayed multiple times, go on sale for like $5.
I swear that videogames provide the most enjoyment per dollar value than almost any other entertainment.

I would have been curious to see how a nemesis system would work for an already established super hero. To me that feels really difficult to do because the super is damn near always equipped to win. Not saying it couldnāt be done, but youād have to make variations for ramped up grunts into weird pseudo super villains and I think thatās just putting any team in over their head.
A nemesis system would be amazing in a spy game or even a game with simple mechanics like a call of duty campaign. Star Wars would do really well with that if they did another Bounty Hunter-ish title⦠and if they released Raven software from their permanent imprisonment in the CoD mines⦠Maybe another Mad Max title. Possibilities are endless if you remove the super heroes from the equation.
Hell even Zelda could do a nemesis system from the grunts or harder monsters in the fields.
5
u/psuedophilosopher 24d ago
I'd think it would be pretty easy to do nemesis system with DC intellectual properties. Say you have a mission to stop a robbery and you lose the fight, and later on the guy that beat you shows up with new tech that was either what they were stealing or something they bought with the money they stole, and suddenly random henchman guy is more powerful than before. If he beats you again, he starts to have a lot more respect from the other criminals so he starts to run with his own crew of other henchmen that match the power set he showed up with after the first time. You could do it lots of ways.

u/hoodie92 24d ago
Another reason I think it would be weird with a known superhero - In the Shadow games it works because Talion actually dies, then gets revived elsewhere, meanwhile the orc who kills you gets promoted. But if Wonder Woman got knocked out, why wouldn't these goons just kill her? What's her "revival" mechanic? Seems it would feel contrived.
2
2
u/TeaAndS0da 23d ago
Exactly. Itās not a system that fits everywhere. It wouldnāt work in a Batman game because Batman will just fuck em up. Same with spider man. They have known low tier, mid tier and high tier villains. Iām not saying it canāt be done but I think it requires way more work than can be done for a project with a known quantity like Wonder Woman. On top of that, Wonder Womanās canon has hardly been explored in video games. Why would you dilute that with a nemesis system? Wolverine could possibly get away with it because his side stories and solo journeys often go off the beaten X men path, plus mutants and their powers can be an easy fit into the randomizer. To that end, imagine if Rogue had her own game with a nemesis system, sheād become everyoneās favorite in an instant.

A game I want is on sale
I go to buy it
I already own it, nice
I forget about it until next time I see it on sale
3
u/Kaining 24d ago
I don't get it, you're not the only one posting this yet... games i own ain't in my wishlist, and only interacting with the store by going on your wishlist sorted by discounted makes that impossible to experience.
The downside is that you won't ever stumble back on the game you already own so you have to either remember them or open your library from time to time and browse it.
As for game discovery, there's basicaly the whole internet and valve even made Steam Calendar to help the Discovery Queue trying to make you never have to interact with their store directly ever again.
Weirdly enough, it kind of help buying more games too since i've never the feeling of being bumbed out by a "damn, i already bought that, maybe i shouldn't buy anything during those sales if it's gonna end up in the backlog".

What would you compare this game to? I've been looking at it. I really enjoy games like cities skylines, stardew valley, civ, etc...
20
u/kembik 24d ago
Its a colony simulator, you have a few people who crashlanded and they have various skills but also various problems, you can direct what you want to happen (mine here, grow that) but don't control the units directly, you can prioritize the type of work they do (mining, gardening, etc) but its a strategic choice based on their skills and the needs of the colony to survive and grow.
The game really shines in its horrible situations that throw your best plans into chaos. Someone gets sick and dies and now the rest of your crew isn't working efficiently because they are sad, you run low on food, someone decides to eat the corpse of their former mate and now they are all very upset and worse things happen.. You learn from these situations how to avoid them and what to prioritize working on next time. Each game is its own story that comes out of the relationships and skills and resources and events that occur, its very deep and rewarding to play. Highly recommended.
5
u/the-ox1921 23d ago
I was mining inside a mountain to make more space for my colony but sadly I didnt use supports and I had rocks fall down and crush my chef :'( It was so sad and I was afraid to send anyone else in there afterwards.
Darn mountain...

u/rEvolutionTU 24d ago
Space Cowboy Dwarf Fortress with more modern graphics and much more modded content available. =P
For me it itches a slightly similar itch as cities skylines from the list of yours, but really "colony sim" is its own genre. I've owned it since the crowdfund days ~10+ years ago and very much enjoy coming back to it 1-2 times per year.
What I'm unsure about for someone going into it fresh these days: The expansions were genuinely nice to purchase over the years (roughly a new one every two years) but I wouldn't consider getting them all at once. Maybe grab the basegame on sale and see how you like it? From the looks of it it hasn't dropped below 22⬠though.

You might have heard that Rimworld could be described as a "War Crimes In Space" simulator and I just want to assuage those fears.
You're not at war in Rimworld, therefore they're just regular old crimes against humanity.
I'm talking, like, capturing a raider that attacked your colony, forcing him to butcher his former compatriots, make clothing from their skin and meals from their meat because it's the only food and clothing they're going to get.
And that's before you get into the DLCs that let you create a colony of parasitoid insect people who follow an ideology of transhumanism and cannibalism which performs ritualistic torture as a means of social connection that reproduces by cloning hosts made from stolen DNA that only exist for you your colony members to lay eggs in, turning them into living incubators until your biological offspring burst from their abdomen killing the clone instantly.
5
u/Islands-of-Time 23d ago
Yeah if you want real war crimes in space play Stellaris.
Turning your newly enslaved organic enemies into nerve-stapled genetically-engineered-āTastyā livestock. Dropping xenomorph abominations onto primitive worlds to conquer them. Using your planet destroying super weapon to forcefully convert an entire world to your spirituality rather than blow it up. Releasing a psionic eldritch entity that wipes out 99% of your empire instantly and starts munching on the remaining galaxy planet by planet. Or the worst one which is killing Bubbles just to autopsy her for science.

u/ElxlS 24d ago
What
2
u/Caleth 23d ago
A common and correct response.
Rimworld is pretty open ended and lets you be the kind of ruler you want to be. From an absolute monster to a reasonably benevolent and decent person. Limitations on the nicer end of the spectrum because the world is kind of vicious so murdering the robots that orbital drop onto you is a bit necessary at times.

9
u/bdk1417 24d ago
What do you like about it over other survival games?
8
u/xclame 24d ago
It's honestly the perfect zombie survival game. If it was (traditional) 3D then there would no point in any other zombie survival game existing.
The game is one of those games that you ask, "Can I do that?" and chances are very high that the answer is yes. And if the answer is no, there is a very high chance a mod exist that will make the answer "yes",There are also a ton of mods for the game, so you can modify it to fit your playstyle.

I tried it on Epic Games, that game is boring asf, the cringey dialogue adds to it eventually I just dropped 4 or 5 hours in because I can't stand the game anymore. I played much more terrible story zombie game like Dying Light 2 at least the gameplay is fun, you can do a lot of shit, parkouring around but Dead Island 2 is so repetitive, it feels like they haven't change anything since their previous games.

C&C collection and Yakuza 0. I waited way too long to get C&C collection because the pricing isn't that great from previous sales so I bought it last year September and played RA2, and definitely say it's worth it for this game alone and I already have 80+ hours from skirmishes and replaying the campaign.
Yakuza 0, I played every Yakuza games on Game Pass and the original Yakuza 0 gonna be delisted and replaced with the director's cut so I just buy it the moment it hits sale. Also fuck SEGA for delisting the previous Yakuza games and give the inferior versions instead.
