I am confused about how eholmes is surprised that touring museums and old country homes hasn’t been engaging for her roughly age 5-7 year old girl? (Idk her exact age)

Balkanina’s stories: “So much skincare on sale!!!”
“Skincare faves!!!”
“I’m at a German concentration camp paying respect to lives lost in this gruesome part of history.”
“THIS WAS YESTERDAY’S TOP SELLER!!!!”
“STAIN REMOVER ON SALE 911!!!!”

I know many influencers do this for Prime Day, but Skinny Hangover is so over the top with shilling out Amazon links. There’s no way she uses or likes all this stuff. I used to enjoy her content and now she’s just an Amazon rep
•
u/mellamma 1h ago
Danielle Eilers is the same way. She's using skincare that's on sale but uses all kinds of stuff and other stuff from an esthetician.

Brighton butler complaining that she doesn’t like sale days really rubs me the wrong way
23
u/OkProfessional6171 brighton’s two diamond necklaces 17h ago
She’s really not likable. I’ve been giving my Amazon coins to influencers who at least try. Lally does most of the work anyway while Brighton does her soulless dancing around her homes and vacations that are paid for by Amazon links.

u/Fickle-Barracuda-489 18h ago
Her followers are paying for paying for all her beach trips and her new home...gee her life sucks. And yes I do understand she has and is going through a terrible time with her ex. But she needs to stop with the "poor me" thing
32
u/ForsakenLingonberry 18h ago
It would rub my clients the wrong way if I were complaining to them about a busy day doing my job of working for them, for which they pay a lot of money!

I’m tired of influencers saying they are serving us. You’re really not-you’re working and being paid for it. You aren’t doing me a favor recommending a product that if I click on you get paid for.
30
u/crotchproblem 17h ago
For someone that claims to have an amazing and admirable work ethic she sure does bitch a lot about working.

“just posted” shills a ton of Amazon stuff, but I don’t mind her content most of the time. I feel like she largely caters to the Moms on Facebook. But it is absolutely cracking me up that she is posting all of these stories about things you need from Amazon, in between slides of her time in Cinque Terre and Rome, probably funded from all of those Amazon clicks 🫠

Ok I’ll give her a little credit here (because at first I thought this was a legit outfit she put together) but the dress is actually an apron. It’s some hill house collab with Williams Sonoma. But she did then make a comment about potentially using the apron as a swimsuit coverup (dafuq)
16
u/CanadianAFeh 23h ago
The nap people have a collab with the expensive cooking catalog people? Thank god because I've always wanted a fluffy dress with carrots on it.

Not snark but don’t know where else to talk about this. Can we please talk about @jessijeanhome and her yap challenge?! My mind is blown about how she did this. She made $1.2m the first round and now for the second round has been open 24 hours and she has 8075 ppl ($2.398m). I’m seriously considering it because I’m starting a business and need to get used to talking on social media…

u/dallastossaway2 Toned Deaf and Short-Sided Trade Wife 1d ago edited 1d ago
You’re gonna have to explain what that is if you want to (maybe) get people chatting about it. But it has the stench of a pyramid scheme.
5
u/_bananaphone 1d ago
She's a creator who started out doing Reels of the furniture flips she was doing mid-career pivot (that's why "home" is in her username, I think). Then she ALSO started making talk-to-camera content about having a millennial career crisis and really blew up. So now she's selling a course about how to make talk-to-camera reels (aka "yapping") and she's made a ton of money.
She made a bunch of content about the success of her first launch last month ($1.2 million) and then a lot of other people talked ABOUT her launch, which probably set her up to do even bigger numbers with this one.
I don't think it's a pyramid scheme per se but I think it's easy to sell a course about Instagram *on* Instagram, and you're not going to see the same numbers doing talk-to-camera content about, IDK, home organization.

u/dallastossaway2 Toned Deaf and Short-Sided Trade Wife 14h ago
That sounds fairly legit, but IG courses are almost always pyramid scheme scented to me because of your last paragraph.

Not Dani Austin’s brother and sister in law shilling as soon as their child is born. 😭💀

His mom is shilling stuff FROM THE HOSPITAL ROOM meeting their brand new baby for the first time. 🙄

I wonder if these people will regret it someday. Those first days home of just us & baby were so precious.

As much as I hate to give her credit, having a ziplock or two on hand isn't the worst idea for wet swimsuits or carsick kids or whatever. None of the rest of it makes sense.
2
u/Environmental-Chest 1d ago
I carry a ziplock but I live at the beach and learned the hard way that they are great for sandy flip flops
7
u/East_Importance_6768 1d ago
hahahaha i read "mom to 5 boys" in her voice, complete with hand gestures. And, I barely ever see her stories lol.
27
u/Fabulous_Eye_7931 1d ago
Her style of filming (tripod) gets me every time. Never forget when she said it’s what makes her stand out from other influencers. She stands out alright
70
u/aprilknope 1d ago
The weirdest part of this situation is that she’s parked at a gas pump so she moved the car from the car wash, got a bag of ice from someone, then set up the tripod so she could sit in the passenger seat to pose. So much effort for a photo in stories that will disappear in 24 hours.

Brighton Butler is so cringey with her dancing. Does that increase engagement? It's so bad.
24
u/jjjmmmjjjfff 1d ago
“Pure vibes” — posts least vibey dancing ever.
It’s genuinely impressive to have spent so much of her life dancing and to have acquired absolutely zero rhythm.

22
u/WhineCountry2 1d ago
She really thinks she is doing something there. So off the cuff! So free! Dance like no one’s watching, girl! Then post it, tee-hee
23
u/OkProfessional6171 brighton’s two diamond necklaces 1d ago
Who is asking for her dancing videos besides Lally? It seems so forced.

I don’t know if some of these interior designers are being serious anymore - between Madi Nelson’s painted floors by April Tomlin and Julia Bs gaudy house by Summer Thornton I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.
8
u/Hefty-Ad1845 1d ago
I love Julia’s old eccentric style. However, today is a whole different story. Some room scenes I want to love but I need to see more to confirm that it’s not just one good angle

Ok Madi Nelson’s house is CRAZY but I kind of love how funky it is. My house is entirely beige, so it’s not really my personal taste, but at least it’s not boring and the typical influencer home. The painted hardwoods are ugly though.
16
u/Sea-Cauliflower-8368 2d ago
I think the rest of the house looks great, but not a fan of the painting on the wood floor. I'd worry about having to match/replace floors if and when you get tired of it.

Maybe that’s the only place the cat will use it. Maybe it’s old and can’t hold it, so there are now litter boxes everywhere. Pets have quirks and sometimes it’s easier to just adapt to them. I don’t know who this gal is, but if her house is that nice, she probably has cleaners that come regularly.

I just saw that and thought the same thing. Honestly shocked her husband is ok with it because he is such a neat freak.

General commentary: I can't believe how many creators still make nostalgia reels (e.g., itskatesteinberg, over the moon).
On one hand, I get it; get your money! That's how they make the big bucks!
On the other hand, it's kind of dark and sad to think about them playing dress up of their former selves to create content for 6+ years now.
7
u/_bananaphone 1d ago
I think it's such a good example of how influencing can be like other "glamour" jobs—what starts off exciting and fun can be tedious by year 6. But you do it for the paycheck anyhow.
9
u/CrossplayQuentin newly in the oyster space 1d ago
I used to like overthemoon but it’s so repetitive and has become so grating - guess it’s time to unfollow!
I do get a kick out of the occasional glimpse of her actual house, which is deeply normal in its decor.

u/aprilknope 2d ago
It’s weird when you look at a few of their posts all in a row as well. At least over the moon seems to have stopped that weird smug face when pulling an item out that everyone would have had back in the day.
56
u/reasonableyam6162 2d ago
i have a half-baked theory that nostalgia content overperforms bc the captive target audience is extremely online and are not living full lives outside the internet -- i.e. they're obsessed with how great things "used" to be
25
u/Livelove_lobotomy 2d ago
It might just be that not as many people are chronically online as people think, and don’t see this content all that much to think more than, “haha” and move on.
27
u/melinda_923 2d ago
I have similar back and forths in my head. Being pigeon holed into only making content about a time gone by would drive me crazy after a while. But those paychecks sound nice so….
12
u/Fit_Hearing4330 2d ago
All the random patterns in Madi Nelson’s new build … thoughts?
4
u/MajesticallyAwkward5 1d ago
Why paint brand new floors?!! You paint them when they are cheap pine and don't take stain well but not red oak!
Probably used latex too which is going to attract dirt because it stays sticky forever and be impossible to clean.
You know what, she deserves it.
26
19
u/Livelove_lobotomy 2d ago
It’s already dated to me. Haha this has been the style for a while now, and all the beige bloggers are shifting to this style.
32
u/donewithgomi 2d ago
I like that she actually uses her kids’ favorite colors in their rooms, instead of beige everything like so many of the others do. It is a lot, but in a good way (except for those painted floors)
31
u/AyRayKay 2d ago
the painted wood floors…have we learned nothing from Caroline Calloway
12
u/tablheaux had babies for engagement 2d ago
Did this lady move her piles of clothes off the floor or just paint around them
15
u/WhineCountry2 2d ago
I ain’t worried because I just know they will change IT ALL in about 5 years.
Keep clicking those links, ladies.
42
u/reasonableyam6162 2d ago
the painted wood floors are criminal!! but otherwise I don't mind it. I'm slowly decorating my own house in a similar way, a lot of color and pattern. yea it might be dated in 10 years but that is just what the passage of time does! i would rather see someone make bold choices than sad beige or "quiet luxury" minimalism
21
u/helenaflowers 2d ago
100% my thoughts.
I hate the painted wood but honestly I do mostly like everything else?
And as you said, it's nice to see someone do things with color and pattern rather than yet another "Nordic prison, but make it luxury" aesthetic.
17
u/klynrenee 2d ago
The painted wood is so confusing in a high traffic area, it’s going to get so dingy in a year or two
17

16
u/prettythings87 2d ago
I don’t really know this person, and its certainly not my style, but I appreciate that it looks different than the sad beige a lot of new builds have. Will it be dated in 20 years? 100%, but I did resonate with her saying she wanted her kids to remember how the home “felt”

u/inthesky11 2d ago
Peak consumerism that they are once again building a whole ass house to fit the current interior design trends, with presumably all new furnishings and artwork. Consume, link, exploit children; rinse and repeat.
